I once bought a ring that was purple when I put it on in the store, but change to a greenish blue when I looked at it outside. I liked that color, too. So I kept it. That was about 56 years ago. Three years years later I was given another ring that had a similar habit of changing color when the source of light changed, purple to blue-green. A friend had picked it up in Egypt several years before. I have no idea what the stones are, real or simulated. I just like them.
I have an old ring that is supposed to be an alexandrite but i don’t know if it is synthetic or not. Under flourescent light it turns teal and in other light inside it is purple with a little blue in it.
I have a color changing gemstone. It is natural. It has a very small carbon inclusion. The changes in color are pretty dramatic under different types of light. I have so far seen 4 colors: teal(daylight), purple(candle light), blood red (under uv black light), and apple green(led light). I can't figure out what it is. My jeweler just told me what I wanted to hear which was of course ALEXANDRITE. It was sold to me as a color changing spinel but I'm not so sure. I'm thinking maybe color changing sapphire? Anyone have any suggestions on how to test it?
