- Jimmy Page, Allison McGourty & Bernard MacMahon are interviewed by Lianne Peet for the new film Becoming Led Zeppelin, a documentary that dives into the rise of the epochal rock group, has been completed. It is the only documentary of its kind that the band themselves have participated in. The documentary, which was first announced in 2019, includes new interviews with Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, as well as rare archival interviews with the band's late drummer John Bonham.
Plot: The film will trace the journeys of the four members of the Stairway To Heaven rockers through the music scene of the 1960s and their meeting in the summer of 1968, culminating in 1970.

In a way I feel bad for Jimmy. He has gotten flack for not making any new music himself in recent years, or being accused of living in the past. But, he is the founder and caretaker of the band. So, by default, he is doing his best to keep Zep alive today, and continue the band's legacy. I'm looking forward to this documentary.
id be living in the past if I was the founder of the greatest rock band
Led Zeppelin… blowing peoples minds for over 50 years 🤯
Sounds like Jimmy finally found the right people that actually "get it" about Led Zeppelin.
What a priceless creation he put together and it's still discussed and celebrated up to this very minute.
I CAN’T WAIT to see this documentary. I will go to a theatre any way they want you to. I’ll wear a hazmat suit, if I have to. This should be seen in a theatre with that sound you can only get there.
The Songs Remains The Same
Any word on when it's coming out where actual fans can see it?
@@chillavision7654 I heard that it's not going to be released in the United States at all. They showed it over in Europe at the cons festival but no plans yet to release it here. I heard that Jimmy is not fully satisfied with it.
Page and company came up with a sound in their music that has not and I believe cannot ever be duplicated by anyone ever at any time. It was an extremely unique time and experience. So I am excited about the new film ...
Absolutely Jimmy, beauty and power of Led Zeppelin.
I know the phrase " hey you guys!" from The Electric Company....cant wait to see this doc!!! Led Zeppelin is the soundtrack of my life!
To know Led Zeppelin, you have to understand them as a live act. You've only scratched the surface if all you know is the (great) studio albums.
same with The Dead
No one needs dope to enjoy Led Zeppelin.
This should be a great watch many times over.
'Moby Dick' is the only drum solo I can listen to. There is no one you can compare to Bonham for sheer musical talent. Famous for his power, but he should also be remembered for his subtlety.
Neil Peart became my drumming hero after Bonham passed away. Now, sadly, both my heroes are no longer here.
Yeah Jimmy is explaining to me what I actually take away from watching them. “Did you hear that part, did you see his reaction ?etc.,” that always struck me about them as a musician. Beatles showed ha how to write great songs but zeppelin really showed us how to play and interact as a band live
Jimmy looks great
Yeah he looks really healthy and vibrant lol - I really hope he plays live again some day soon...
He's still not near as fresh looking as John Paul Jones...who was careful not to abuse his body in the 60s 70s and 80s
@@vonbleak101 I can't see him making another album or touring on his own or with another band again...Jimmy doesn't want to "go out disgracefully" like Elvus did in the late 70s....
@@Maguirearch Yeah i know - but maybe he can come out and jam a few tunes with the Black Crowes or Jeff Beck or something like that, just as a once off guest apperance... I would really just love to see him play one last time... ,
@@Maguirearch Haha well its not a competion - and all those things considered, its a mircale he did not kill himself in the early 80's, so i'd say he's doing great lol
THERE’S ONLY ONE JIMMY PAGE ❤️❤️❤️
Favorite musician on earth, on the left.
It was a great interview to watch and it was a joy to see Jimmy has found some moviemakers who appreciate his legacy in full. Maybe there was more of the interview than what we see here, I wld like to hear more from Bernard and Allison and their insights and journey and how they perceive Jimmy. Jimmy is fairly predictable now on pretty much everything on Zeppelin, the writing, the long live improvisations that we all get now, hearing other people’s perspective from those that have got close to Jimmy would by my reckoning be interesting and revealing so we get to see past what some people like to remain publicly fixed . 👍👍⭐️⭐️
Thank you for all of your inspirations and Led zeppelin Mr page. And the recapitulation of the band it took me a while to realize that all of you were human beings and the possibilities were endless.
Can't wait to see this! :)
Favorite band ever! Genius vocals from Robert Plant and music from guitarist Jimmy Page
I rebuilt my old Mac which is now a decade old and was loading my music when I noticed my entire Led Zeppelin collection had vanished! I literally had a panic attack. For about an hour I was in Hell as I was trying to locate the files which I eventually did but the very thought of living without Led Zeppelin was too much for me to process. They are my favourite band of all time and taught me how to listen to albums and not singles. The journey an album takes you on is something a lotta these millennials don't get with their ADHD. They rent and stream their music on Spotify mostly random singles. Everything outside their EDM bubble is 'dad rock' to these freaks. I'm so glad I was born into a generation that actually went to record shops to buy vinyl and tapes and I still buy CDs, sadly I sold my 500 odd vinyl collection as I needed space and money at the time. I still have a proper HI FI with a tape deck and a tape and CD collection which I will never sell.
@Jorge Riestra Rodriguez Hey man thanks. It's always a good feeling when you can share your passions with like-minded souls. I'm 55 and started buying vinyl in '74. Ok it was Osmonds, Gary Glitter, Abba and whatever was in the charts but that was my learning curve! Then one day our Irish family friend's son Anthony Nichols came to baby sit me and my older sister. He was a 10 yrs older than us and he bought some Led Zeppelin albums, Beatles, Stones, David Bowie and Sparks! He played them loudly on our turntable and me and my sister just fell in love with it. That was my introduction to real music. It planted a seed in me and later I proceeded to buy all these real artists who played their own instruments and wrote their own songs. I love all genres but LZ are my DNA. Those four men for me are the greatest musicians who ever lived. The chemistry between them is unparalleled. They created the most revolutionary music of all time. Every artist of any genre is influenced by them and will name check them! As a guitarist Page and Hendrix are my top two. Hendrix of course is the master but Page Is next. The man is a living legend! Peace be with you brother. ♥️
@@rushshukla4636 Art is not a contest. Page? Hendrix? They're BOTH great. I like The Who every bit as much as Led Zeppelin - and I'm fine with it.
Thank you Jimmy!
Please, I beg of you, do NOT disappoint me AGAIN with another Zep Doc that just regurgitates already publicly known infos and interviews with talking heads droning on about their thoughts on Zep. Please make this the crown jewel on the matter. Us old guys need it now.
I feel the same way. But, this doc has peaked my interest more than any other. Let's hope it's a good one.
Since this doc is about that making of LZ, my guess is that 90% of the doc will be about stuff we already know: all the blues influences, the Yardbirds, Band of Joy, Jimmy playing skiffle music as a youngster, Jimmy and JPJ being well-known session guys, and later Jimmy and Robert's trips to explore world music and the power of Peter Grant as a manager, etc. I mean, what else is there to know? The only thing I can think of would be more in depth stuff about each guy growing up as kids, what they were like as school kids, musical training, that sort of thing.
One thing that often gets over-looked, to me, is how important JPJ was to the band. I mean, Jimmy was the undoubtably the driver...it was his band from the get-go. But when you listen to some of JPJ's solo stuff, you really realize how very, very important his influence was to the sound of the band. Maybe they'll give the guy more props then he normally gets in this thing, but my guess is that with Jimmy being the main source of the doc, I doubt it. But who knows? We'll see.
Jimmy page gênio e amor da minha vida ❤️! Que saudades do LED Zeppelin 😍💥
👍Enjoyed this.
I think that the movie The Song Remains the Same is my glue.
I want to see it and HEAR it -- where is it??? no band like Led Zeppelin... esp. LIVE!
Oh man this is going to be good.
Goose bumps
when is this going to finally come out? dying to see it...
Excellent. Anyone have any idea's of the Cinema & DVD release dates?
not 4 men and their love of music,, it was the 4 horses of the apocalypse and a generation that was rock and roll. OG rock and roll cant be synthesized or homogenated. its raw
Thank god Page is still putting out quality material as in Led Zeppelins Legacy ..now partly accurately told now from the official sources from the actual people who were there when it all happened....
Where in the hell is this film???!!
*I completely agree. There's nothing worse than watching a documentary on a great band that's only filled with rote, rudimentary and basically heartless facts that could be gleaned from anywhere*
The first song they ever played is Train Kept a Rollin, and quoting them, it was magic. It is a shame that LZ never released it
Jimmy is my favorite celeb
How do we see it?
Many people are unaware to time limits on trademark, copyrights etc.
Does anyone know where we can watch this documentary? Can’t find it anywhere online.
I wanna see it
best band ever Led Zeppelin :)
So, Jimmy is telling us that the secret of thier success was that the song did NOT remain the same?
Is this documentary ever going to be released
I we surely see this film. Robert is releasing another album with Alison and writing songs.
Whats the name of the documentary and when does it come out?
Where can we get access to this documentary? All this talk, how is it accessable?
You can't! It's all done to torment us all!
Does anyone know where you can see this is it in the movie theater, showtime, cable, can someone tell me me please
No...and no. Sorry! No one can actually see it!
💚💙
Jimmy, just take me in to the basement and spin me some of your fav's from your collection, of course you'll never be able to get me to leave afterwards.
Where Can I see It?
Is anyone going to have the sense to ask why the Doc. stopped in 1970 and if so, will there be a part 2 or 3 to show the rest if their legacy (with so much more music and history to go)?....
Starting to seem deliberate... My guess is there will be a 71-73 one in a couple more years
No kidding!
Jimmy Page: Bleaching the Ham. Yeah!
Has this even been released yet?
So where is it?
Zep fans might like Rosetta West - Underground, Suzie, Morning Star and others on youtube (and bandcamp)
So glad Jimmy finally got the documentary done but WHY is it taking forever to get a deal made with a streaming service? Let me guess, Jimmy doesn't think the streaming services like Hulu, Amazon, Netflix are being fair by taking their cut of the dough. Jimmy probably wants 99%. It doesn't work that way.
So will the movie be released or will that happen after the band gets back together?
I think it will be along time before we see the film and also I don’t think we will ever see led zep perform again, it’s a shame really
Has anyone seen this film? And is it worthwhile to watch?
Where is Robert Plant?!?
STILL NOT OUT IN JANUARY 2024
what happened to it?
Leather is so yesterday
why does Jimmy sound like he forgot his dentures at home💀

Jimmy is very vociferous about the legacy of Zeppelin isn’t he?! anybody that might not get it or do it justice will probably end burning under a pile of Exploding airship…😬
whats the contribution of jimmy page to the music today?
in at least 30 years i did not see a thing of it
Jimmy page has talked enough who the hell is he sitting with
Jimmy Page: Becoming Quaker Oats guy
Yup! Oatmeal is the greatest health 😋 hot 🔥 cereal to eat!😁Great to the taste👍!
Hahahha brilliant, totally right with that, he looks so ‘Quaker -ish’ 🤣 He’d look better with his hair all messed up like an old Beethoven, the pony tail doesn’t quite work now 🤣
Some people claim that USA is going into decline. These kind of documentaries detail the type of cultural figures who set that decline in motion. Maybe.
Page girlfriend ? ahahaha no she's 50 younger than him man ! just hes oldest friend !
When all the sons of God become cave men. Where you gonna go?. Who you gonna call? 😆
Animal farm
Dump them
Oh, dose it explain why JP was running around America with an under age girl. Tricky one to explain. A white wash “puff piece” for the fans.
I'd be smiling too if I was a shit guitarist and made as much money as HE did.
Winner of the dumbest comment on RUclips. Congratulations.
susbcribed to ellen, opinion discarded
Can't stand Zeppelin didn't write most of their own music road the coattails of fame on other Artist songs and music
The idea they plagiarized music is stupid. Every artist you can point too stole just as much. Mozart took a bass line note for note for many passages long of Bach famously... it’s how music works and an art form where there’s only 12 notes and 6 notes to a key.
@@tylurmackinnon6217 I'm a 59 year old retired guitarist/Musician who comes from a music family I know all the songs and music they took and the original Artist...so you're reply is definitely Nullified and Voided
@@tylurmackinnon6217 back in those days the copyright infringement laws were weak today Zeppelin would have never gotten away with it
@@thepatriot4355 no musician today is for the tightening of copyright laws, it’s fucking stupid. It’s written by people who aren’t musicians that don’t know theory. Music is a very limited format. All the melodies and progressions have already been written a thousand years ago. The idea of owning a melody is crazy. There’s blatant ripping off a song, that I can agree with a lawsuit. But taking a melody there, and chord progression there, and there’s nothing wrong with that and now days a lot of bands have songwriting credits a paragraph long because of the regressive laws. What it is are greedy publishing companies trying to strangle money out of young up and coming artists making it even more impossible than it is to make a living as a musician now days. Now only do people steal music, streaming services don’t pay musicians, it’s increasingly becoming illegal to write it.
If you think what Led Zeppelin did is wrong you have a fundamental misunderstanding of how music works, is all I can tell you. Cause those black artists people point too also stole the songs zeppelin stole from.
@@tylurmackinnon6217 and today there are very strict copyright infringement guidelines...know what you're talking before you open you're mouth
