- Peavey 5150 Block letter | Blind shootout of the 5150 vs Ampero, Axe-fx III, GE200 and HX Stomp
Hey guys. This quarantine has me not buying tubes anytime soon, so I figured let's just shootout the Peavey 5150 block letter now! As always, try to guess which one is the real amp in the comments below! This one was pretty hard for me, and I knew which one the real amp was the whole time!!

Thanks for watching! Remember to SUB if you haven't already 🙌🤘
you didnt tell us how you got the HX stomp to sound good?
Keep watching on Wednesday!
@@TaylorDanley NICE!!!!!!! I'll bewaiting
I subbed for Jesus like you said, lol. Am I saved now?!
Haha 😂... yes. 🙏🙌
The Ampero sounded glorious 👍👌
They all sound very good, I couldn't guess the real amp
It’s funny how everyone can pick out the real amp in the videos where which is which get revealed at the end but not in the videos where they don’t reveal which is which.
😂😂😂
Fantastic editing, playing, video, and writing. I hope you make it to 100k subscribers. Keep it up man. You’ll definitely achieve that. Be well.
I got the actual 5150 and the HX stomp right, which makes sense since I’ve played through a block letter and Helix Native the most. Great demo man! It shows how far along amp modeling has come!
Thanks! 🙌 I know, it's crazy how good it is now!
I liked A and C best and had no idea what one should be the real deal, its nice that these days you can get such great sound without spending loads of cash and carrying around tons of gear. What a time to be alive. =]
Amen to that 🙌
Well made video again! To be honest, they sounded all so close to each other that I don't think you can go wrong with any of these.
🙌
I couldn’t tell much of a difference at all. I thought modeler A was the weakest sounding of the 5. I thought B, and C sounded the best. I was happy to learn B was the amp, C was Ampro. At the end of the day I don’t play this style of music so I could use any of these and be happy if I was trying to fake it.
Those did all sound very close together to my ears, just different levels of brightness. I picked out the real 5150, got every single other amp wrong. Swapped the HX and GE200, and the AxeFX and Ampero.
Awesome 5150
My guess: A = GE, B = Ampero, C = PV, D = Axe, E = HX. From best to worst for me was C, D, A, E, B. Turns out I got 3 out of 5 correct and I liked the actual PV the least, and the Ampero was actually the best!
Stunning comparison! I really thought that C was the the amp because of its denser mids and limited harshness... (I prefered that one) but I was completelly wrong. As for AxeFx and real 5150, I agree they are extremelly close (with a specific harshness). I also guessed correctly that A was the GE200 as it is pretty agressive but uniformly compressed (typical for the Mooer). And also E (Hx Stomp) because it is always the brightest (and harshest) modeler of the selection. My preferred ones were C B D then A and E. Thanks for another great video and stay safe!
Thanks, you too! 🙏🙌
I only found letter A !
Great video again It help me to fond a better tone. About that I will try your impulse right now ! Thanks
🙌🙏
They all sound great. I liked the HX stomp the least and was very surprised by how good the ge200 was.
I was able to pick out the real amp this time, all the modellers seemed to have a fizzy top end that just wasn't present on the actual amp. I thought the Mooer was the second-best sounding out of the rest.
I wasn't interested in getting it right, but I picked my favourite two which were B and D so I'm glad I liked the real head since I have a Peavey
Just Discovered ur channel dude! Love it! U have a new sub here! Loving the shootout vids about the HB 2x12!! I have the horizontal version with my kemper and love it but love the look of the vertical one u have!!!!
Awesome! A friend of mine just got the horizontal one, and swears by the speakers in it. Now I want to try one out!
Taylor Danley what power amp do you use to power the cab??
Seymour Duncan Powerstage 700
Taylor Danley cheers! Now that u say it I do remember seeing it on one of the videos! Thanks!
No prob!
That beat down was naaaaasty 😈
🙌🙏🤘
sick riffs!
🙌🙌🤘🤘
I for real thought the ampero sounded better than the 5150. fuckin woah
😂🤷♂️
love the riff !!!!
Thanks! 🙌
The Ampero2 model of the 5150 is fuckin amazing. I've had mine for 2 weeks and having so much fun with that one model that I've hardly tried any others. I used to think the SLO was my holy grail amp, but it's the 5150!
Blind I had it : E, A, D, B, C. Really sick shootout!
Thanks! 🙌
They all sounded pretty great! A funny thing about the different 5150 emulations i played through in plugins is that they all have a weird metallic harshness to them, so i guess they do the job correctly!
Are there 6505 models on any of the modellers in your shootouts?
I dont think so, but it's the same exact amp as a 5150, so I think companies dont really bother putting that or the + versions in the modelers
this channel kick ass
🙌🙏
Shitballs that is a sick sound man
Man 5150 is badass :) I can’t wait till she’s done !!!
Me either!
A>D>C>B>E
B C D E are hard to distinguish in the mix, A sounds a little different 🤷♂️ 5150 emulation seem to be spot on. I’ve done a 5150 shootout between THU, Helix and NeuralDSP Nolly and all of the models / profiles sound really darn close to each other. I guess as close as one 5150 would sound next to another one. Modelling game is really on it 🤔🤯👌🤘🏻
Taylor, seeing how close the models are to the real amp, would you consider selling the real amp? I mean as a producer, not as a RUclips channel. Physical gear serves more than one purpose for YT I guess ;)
@@krisrudecki9477 I would love to see answer to that in the next Q&A video
I will answer this in the next one!
Is there any post processing on the modelers or this is just the raw sound on each one of them?
Post processing on the kix, non on the solo'd sections
Have you considered adding in some shots of a spectrum analyzer? Might be an interesting extra, though differences might only be relatively small. Maybe low and low mid dynamics on the chugs might be clearly visible?
I've done it a couple times, but never got any feedback on it. But I'll think about it for future vids!
@@TaylorDanley Haha, I figured I'd seen the bulk of your content by now, but since I've missed those, appearantly there's more to enjoy with the morning coffee. Awesome 🤘
Damn dude, def updadted your qaulity? Seems so much crisper on this video, well done. The audio seems stepped up too!
Thanks! 🙌 I'm not sure what I dod different, but I'll take it!
@@TaylorDanley I am not sure either, but everything seemed amped up to me, maybe I am just imagining things but the mix and the quality seemed quite a step up. I could be going crazy from isolation though lmfao
@@suffersystemstudios either way, thank you! Dont go crazy tho 🙏🥳
@@TaylorDanley I promise nothing!!!
i love the ampero sound, is possible that you show the setting you did?¿ great video! thanks!
I dont think I saved the preset actually. Sorry! 🙈
@@TaylorDanley jajaja any way really thanks for the good videos!!
Haha for some reason the thumbnail looks like you're gonna type the amp at our face lol
😂🤷♂️ I didnt know what to do, so I picked that thing up over my head. Funny thing is my camera is on a self timer, so I had to hold it there for 10 seconds. It's super heavy!
Could you add TSE X50 (1st version, better than v2) in your next 6505 comparison ?
Super cool video I love it !!
Thanks! Hmm, I could possibly do that!
Yeah that sizzle on the very top is the giveaway of with this model across all platforms. Axefx and Kemper deliver it perfectly. To me Kemper is slightly better for this particular amp but it might just be personal preference . The real deal is beast mode in the room though
I agree... although I did dial it on the hx stomp (vid coming soon), and I'll be damned if it wasnt close to the real thing!
Ampero's realy nice vs the expensive one🥳 will you Buy Fractals FM3?
No, I dont think so. Very cool unit, but I've already got the big boy. Maybe one of the controllers in the future, but I'm good on Fractal gear for now
I was comparing which sounded better for my ear and it was B,D,C,E,A. Turnes out I was pretty much right. Axe and Ampero both were really good. Helix was ok and Mooer was meh. There's no question that AxeFx has the best emulation in town, but it still blows my mind that Ampero holds so close considering the price point.
I could tell 5150 and HX stomp. There is something about Line6 modulation that can be easily spotted... Some artificial "roundness" in the mids or something. But its good.
Late to the party but here's my guess:
A - Ampero
B - Mooer
C - Axe-fx
D - 5150
E - HX Stomp
Gotta say that all are relatively close and definitely very usable
Aaaand I was waaayyy off haha. My favourite was D, the axe-fx
Dude, I can barely hear any difference between them, especially in the mix. Maybe some less top end in the Axe FX, but otherwise... All sounded AMAZING! Please upload the patch for the GE200 :) Pretty please :)
Thanks! 🙌 I didnt save the patches this time around, I'm running out of user banks! 🙈
sorta got another bomberrr version going on...a massive 1uf epcos thing out the first stage and shit lol.
Bro how are you making that noise? Tremelo pinch harmonic?
😂😂 yeah, basically!
Here's my guesses, did not look at results yet:
A: HX
B: GE200
C: Real
D: AxeFx
E: Ampero
Edit: Well, I got one right, lol. They were all very close, but honestly I preferred the tones of some of the modelers over the real thing! The AxeFx I can often pick out because it has this certain 'spatial' mid & high freq sound that seems to be common throughout some of its models, even in mono. Not sure if that aspect of it is more accurate or less accurate in terms of modeling fidelity, but it seems to differentiate it from other modelers in these kinds of comparisons.
Mark Morton, Jason Richardson, and Synyster Gates, and Nick Hipa . If you could start a progressive metal band with only 2 of these guitarists out of these 4, who would you keep, who would you keep and why?
well, My guesses were; 1-)HX Stomp, 2-)Ampero, 3-)Amp, 4-)Axe-FX, 5-)GE 200; I'm not gonna lie, first one is more bass focused, second is more high-end focused, third is much more mid focused (actually my expectation is tube amps usually mid focused... but it didn't), the fourth one is full of rich sound(that's why I thought it's axe fx.), and the last one a bit plasticky. Honestly, I like most the first one cuz, I don't know, I just like the low-end focused sound more. So thank god it was ge200, I afraid that the plasticky one is the ge200 but it's not. By the way, big surprise how the HX Stomp not as good as I expected. I watched your videos for two days, and it seems your cool guy. LIKED!
I thought C was the real amp
Instead of guessing which is which I ordered in my head which I liked best to least. B was my favourite and was actually surprised it was the 5150 lol, then C, D, A ,E. I was kinda hoping the Axe FX III would be in my top 2 favourites but looks like I'll need to watch more comparisons before pulling the trigger.
Normally I hate when purists talk about how modellers just can't match tube amps in sound but this is making me think again. I'm not happy with this revelation lol.
Watch Monday, I have a comparison that might surprise you and change your mind again
Taylor Danley will do! I’m really interested to see how things could get tossed up.
02:22, 04:03, 05:44, 07:26, 09:07 Just for my reference
No idea which is which, B and D sounded best
Do Mooer Preamp Live please
Funny thing - I liked the real 5150 the least. :D All the modellers are on point though, and each one sounds 100% usable both live and in a studio.
I guessed the 5150 correctly through phone speakers. The real beast is a little darker than the modelers. Fluff did a shootout that helped me.
I liked b and d and c the best. D
Was a rad darker but I liked that
Your impulse response doesn't work with Nadir and Poulin Lecab. I don't understand why, it's a .wav file 😥
🤔🤔 thanks for letting me know, I'll have to look into it. Maybe the file format.
It does work with pulse, which is also free
5150 in Axe Fx sounds better then original 5150 :-)
I was able to guess the real amp and axefx right. Just because they sound so much alike. But I think I just got lucky saying the amp was the real amp and not the axefx.
😂 thanks for being honest! Yeah the Axefx, especially here, replicated the amp almost EXACTLY
You dont need a loadbox to record direct from the amp. Just split the signal before the cab with a DI box. And dont forget to switch it to PAD or SPEAKER position.
To anyone reading this, please DO NOT EVER RUN YOUR AMP SPEAKER OUT INTO A DI BOX SPLITTER UNLESS IT IS A PROPER LOADBOX UNLESS YOU WANT TO BLOW UP YOUR AMP. This is just factually false and dangerous. You absolutely DO need a loadbox to be connected to your amp's out
@@Tamajyn69 thats what im saying. You can split the power signal with a di box BEFORE THE CAB. Cab or any other proper load must be connected no matter what. Speaker TS cable from the amp's "speaker out" goes into di box input, another speaker cable runs out of the di box to the cab. And the xlr runs direct amp signal to your interface.
Not gonna lie - I haven't noticed much of a difference between all of them. The only one that was noticeably different was the first one - for me it sounded worse than all the other ones. The differences in the mix are so small that I would be happy with either one of all of them. But having the comparison itself aside, I would also want to point out that I don't really like the new way of the comparison. I'm fine with the approach of showing entire song at once instead of constantly switching between the amps, but I think that you should separate the section of showing amps in the mix from showing them solo like you used to. It would be much easier to compare how amps sound on their own. Great video nevertheless
Thanks for that suggestion. I'm always trying new ways of doing this, and what most people dont see is what happens in the back end. I take feedback, and then also look at the analytics to try and figure out what is the best way to do this. But I appreciate the input, and agree that it's probably better to have solo sections back to back to compare!
Funny? I liked the Axe Fx, and your not even running through a Matrix amplifier? Hmmm...
well like all of em...thats still single Phaseee like...and it's fizzy and uglyyy none the less...just never got around to it...wanted to rig up another bridge through it...we can simulate a 2nd phase....why i liked their older rec shit...that is more phased like and sounds like it to me etc.
this is hard. lol. A is the real one?
ok i need to get the mooer now.
😂😂😂
At the end of the day I’ll take a real tube amp. Just can’t beat it.
So friggin difficult. Even with headphones I couldn’t hear enough difference especially in the mix. Good video( but really about the audio) no idea which is which. Maybe should have had that end part prior to reveal. Kind of tone deaf towards the end.
I know, they are all so damn close! I'm not following the suggestion though, what part were you saying to put before the end?
Taylor Danley I wanted the side by side you played at the end. Smaller snippets side by side for easier comparison. Between the riff and the tone...by the third one they all sounded the same and my brain checked out
Ah, I see what you mean. Thanks for the input!
starting to sound like a deer one lol...robbed a 334 out the corsair its ok...it's deer unit lol...Deer killerrrr lol
I usually have two amps which I think could be the real ones in these kinds of videos. Almost every time I‘m right. Not this time. The real one sounded like shit. None of them sounded good actually. I was waiting for that one tone that‘s completely different in dynamics and clarity, but they sounded all the same. Sorry. 🤷♂️
