I've personally never read the Webcomic but I would've loved to see the scene of him psychologically taunting and breaking the S-Class heroes down in the manga. It would've created a nice contrast between him trying to do evil and saving tons of people in the process😂but also actually scaring his opponents and making him a bit less sympathetic and more well rounded as an antagonist

When garou was threatening to kill tareo, he was trying to prove himself wrong, that heroes COULD, in fact, stand up against injustice and cruelty. Garou grew up to believe that a hero didn't exist to protect the vulnerable, but rather support and entertain the majority group (the bully and his friends). When evil natural water is about to kill the heroes, that's the moment where garous morality is truly tested, but he's so far down the rabbit hole that his hesitation prevents him from doing the right thing.

    • @thefifth4669

NO he never concerned himself on how wrong was his ideals. Garou started misguided and that was driven as long as he stands...
He threatened the Kid because he wants to prove heroes where(edit: were) shit, a samurai who can't stand-up without his sword, a body builder with no convictions to his title as a hero, fallen heroes that can do nothing but to remain down despite him threatening a life of a civilian.
A hero rose-up, said he was bluffing as there was no kid on the direction he was going to endanger... Saitama is the only hero that can read through Garou... the Garou that doesn't even know what he truly desired was.

@@thefifth4669 I think, at least in that scene, that garou wanted to have faith in humanity and heroes, and wanted the heroes to prove himself wrong by standing up, even if they couldn't fight. he wanted to believe the world was not hopeless and selfish like the shows on his tv, he wanted to believe in a "universal good" (which ended up being saitama), and he didn't want to be a monster anymore, because it hurt him to be so evil, as he had the instinct to be a hero

Garou is more committed to his ideals in the webcomic the scene where he breaks down and yells at Saitama about being there for the Ugly kid in particular always stood out to me as heartbreaking as it shows that even as a monster his goal was to unite everyone and make the world better for outcasts and taking that away waters his character down. Okay my opinion tbh is the manga Garou didnt try to be good. It was just that Murata wanted to show that trying to be black and white can result in the opposite. Almost a “the path to hell is pathed with good intention” but the opposite. He was so dedicated to evil he did not see the good that he wanted to do, because in the end that’s why Garou hated heroes was his want to see them be better.
Garou admired monsters because they just did what they did out of nature. At least that’s the vibe I got. And he thought heroes only did it to be recognized!

    • @zuko1569

In the webcomic, Garou's desire to become "true evil" can actually be traced back to his traumatic childhood. Unlike the other kids, Garou has a soft spot for villains. Because as a kid, he was forced to play as the villain role. He also found villains to be more cool. And lastly Garou is a very empathetic and understanding soul, because he acknowledges why and how a villain turned out that way
In that traumatic childhood, it made Garou realized how hypocritical heroes and society are, and it made Garou absolutely despise the concept of a "hero", because to him, a hero is just a person in a suit that wants fame and attention
When Saitama said "so you did have an ideal image of a hero" it completely shattered Garou's worldview. Because Saitama is none of the things that Garou despise as a hero
It's such a beautifully written story because due to Garou's bad childhood experience, he always had this inner child in him where he refuses to think that no hero is good, and the only solution is to be a villain. But after his fight with Saitama, Garou can finally wake up from his false perception and strive to become a better person. Meanwhile the manga completely dismissed these precious moments and used time travel bs. Such disrespect to the readers and original storytelling

I don't think that manga garou is watered down or less "edgy", it's more of a case of he's inconsistent. Webcomic garou was brutal and was confused about himself. So was manga garou. The difference is that around the end of the MA arc, they started giving him these random overly wholesome moments that just didn't feel like the same garou we'd been seeing. Garou goes from ripping off blue flare's arm early in the manga, to "woohoo time for part time job!!" after the MA arc, and there's nothing he's done to deserve that character development. Like there's nothing wrong with garou coming around and becoming a good, happy person, but in the manga he didn't do anything to have the character development. They just changed him without setting it up first. That's what the webcomic was doing, it was slowly setting thing up for him to change naturally. In the manga they just skipped the setup and turned him into a bad boy to wholesome trope without any real character development.

Yes i like the art, it's majestic, even breathtaking sometimes. But no matter how beautiful an art can be, it still won't solve the issue of how bad the writing is
I cant forgive the time travel deus ex machina stuff. And bringing God to the picture was a massive mistake. It was supposed to be Garou's arc, he should be the one to take the spotlight. But since God was shoved into the plot, Garou's arc ultimately felt like it's just another arc that will follow-up to a larger and more serious arc. The manga also removed Garou vs the S-Class. Also a huge mistake because Garou had successfully turned into the "villain" he had always dreamt of. Garou didn't only destroy the S-Class by sheer power, but also pointed out the hypocrisy and double standards from society and hero world
Perfection is many small details done right. Manga didn't deliver those moments... and to make it worse, the manga inserted a lot of plot holes it's too hard to ignore

When bang tells garo to listen to his heart, it plants a sort of doubt in garo’s soul like deep down garo doesn’t really want to become an evil monster but he’s so far in he just keeps going. In his fight with saitama this doubt keeps growing leading to the original ending to the fight where saitama and garo just talk in a destroyed shed. I like this version of garo since i can relate to that sense of doubt when you know you’re doing something that’s clearly wrong yet going along with it.

No god or anything, just a personal fight between him and saitama, his inner monologue was just so good. And then his speech, then being beat up by bang, his subtle smile, tareo trying to save him, and then everything ends with the dawn after a long night, all of that was just perfection. I still think manga garou is inconsistent. Like, he doesn't kill any human ever, not once does he strike to kill, and he refuses (according to his own morals) to kill a hero for the MA. Yet he just... kills Genos? Webcomic garou doesn't kill, and he is consistent with it. He pretends he's going to kill tareo but he never truly intends to do so - or at least he postpones that decision of being consistent with his words. Even letting the heroes die to a monster is something he's unsure about.
And then manga garou just gets there and kills Genos. idgaf about god's influence, that just seems inconsistent. That is, with his character, not with his ideals.
Manga garou is already half-redeemed before he even fights saitama. idk

Is that not the point? That god corrupted garou to become the absolute evil that he kept envisioning? Thats not inconsistent, it was at the peak of garou's journey, and only with the influence of god could he reach his goal, otherwise he was just all talk, it was not til saitama broke garous connection to god did he realize that becoming absolute evil was not what he actually wanted. Inconsistent would be like if garou killed some of the heroes he fought, but then refuses to kill any hero for the MA. Again please explain how thats inconsistent? saying you dont care about gods influence is really stupid because that is literally the whole point, god is that absolute evil that can push garou to what he has been trying to become. In the manga, garou also does not kill, at all, not until he gets corrupted by god so I don't see how that is any different from the webcomic.
Thats like saying batman killing two-face at the end of dark knight is inconsistent because batman doesn't kill people, despite completely ignoring the fact that that was the whole point of what the joker was trying to do, to force him to break his rule.

So that "inconsistency" you point out is actually intentional and part of the canon of the story. You saying "idgaf about god's influence" doesn't make your point any better, you can't just ignore plot devices which were well established and make sense and claim things wich are a consequence of that are "inconsistent" just because you feel like it... I mean, technically you can, it's just that it makes for a very, very stupid argument.

It is felt that his goal was much more important for him than for the Garou of the manga since in the end when he lost against Saitama he was completely empty and it seems that he no longer wants to continue living (although it is also understandable because how each one was defeated was very different)

Everybody talks about the manga ruining garou, but people forget about saitama. The manga ruined saitama as well, the garou vs saitama fight showed a lot of both of their motives and personalities, and saitama basically scolded him with fatherly authority. In the manga it was all about fighting, cool, powerful moves, going in space, the whole clash of way of thinking was lost

Ruining Garou had also obliterated Saitama's character as well
Without Garou's iconic villain speech from the wc, and him pouring out his ideals and his true feelings, Saitama didn't have any room to lecture Garou back.

You never read the webcomic didn't you? The webcomic didn't just have a lecture like how Naruto would use talk-no-jutsu and conveniently change his enemy's hearts. The webcomic had more down to earth, yet powerful and emotional moments. Like:
      - Garou beat up and instilled so much fear in the S-Class heroes, they argued to execute Garou
      - Bang beat the crap out of Garou, but instead of using martial arts, Bang was hitting Garou with his emotions behind it. Bang felt ashamed, sad, angry and most importantly disappointed in Garou because Garou used his martial arts for evil
      - Garou's "villain speech" at the end of the fight with Saitama. Don't look at it on a surface level, the whole conversation between Saitama and Garou has layers and reaons behind them. It's too much info to put here

Both ended so differently. Since you didn't read it you couldn't distinguish the two. Watching a yt video's shallow analysis and comments won't help you see it compared to reading it yourself.
Character developements in the manga was a huge joke. Time travel reversed all the consequences and everyone is alive and happy. Garou immediately getting into rehab was also a huge joke because it's unrealistic and hasty it never felt organic. All of his previous actions were forgotten and never mentioned again. That's not "character developement", it's "plot convenience" and incompetent storytelling. Even a shounen anime like MHA wouldn't do such a stupid writing.
Since Garou in the webcomic never had time travel bs, he's fully aware of his past actions and the pain he inflicted towards other people. He escaped and remain a low profile because he's a fugitive. He's trying his best to redeem himself slowly by getting multiple jobs, only to get fired because some heroes targetted him and caused chaos, but yet he still remains stoic and move on to work in a different place. Now that's a real character developement. It feels natural and real, because all of that was from his own actions.

The manga at a certain point (after the darkshine vs garou part) tried very hard to make you sympathize with Garou, and that is very visible even in the way his design was setup, in which his human eye was always visible under his monster shell, aside from all his unintentional rescues, like the authors always wanted to say "You see??! It's not a real monster don't worry ;)".
In the webcomic it wasn't so obvious that he was wearing a "mask" and you could have doubt it until the end, it made you think that maybe he was really transforming into a monster, that was so cool, because as a reader you were questioned about his true nature and his real intentions, it was like a mistery to solve. Even if some would say that he was obvious that he wasn't a monster because of "garou poor acting" just to cit Saitama, it could still have been that he would have abandoned his humanity at some point.
It seems like the manga suddenly shift his writing to appeal a kid audience rather then an adult one, making everything more light and likable. Most of the dialogues have become stupid and trivial, if not unnecessary and redundant, and fillers started to appear like never before.
Like I said at the beginning, I noticed to see these changes after the darkshine vs garou part... after that I felt like being treated by the authors like a child or a stupid reader, but maybe that is just my impression.
    That is my biggest complaint.

      very spot on ma dude....
It felt very Disney written... I hate how it turned out to Garou's character.
Garou was a personification of never backing down despite any odds, WC version made a clear battle on how Saitama breaks that not just physically but also mentally/spiritually.
Also there's a lot of lazy writing on scenarios where Garous accidentally saving people, it's very much played out.... Garou saving the kid from death Gatling irresponsible action was enough to showcase that.... it was way more better for Garous development to actually be at the point where he can scar the side of heros he specifically hates, which was portrayed brilliantly on WC and not on Manga as he was working with them(Metal Bat).
What I hate for the most of it was they can integrate the new actions and new power levels but they decided to change the character as well and with the time travel all of the growth of the encounters of that ark was reduced to nothing but emptiness... All I feel was like it was rushed... or perhaps lame on how they set it up.

I disagree. Garou was always shown to have humanity and have a bad past. He believed in ultimate evil thinking that would be what is best for the world. What was the webcomic garou's intention anyway? Become ultimate evil for what? To become more edgy? I don't understand his intentions making him a lot less likeable. He doesn't care about people so becoming ultimate evil makes no sense. Who is he helping? Himself? But doesn't he care about the kid?
Webcomic is unoriginal. We have so many webcomic garou's these days and I don't care for them. They aren't likeable. A villain needs to be likeable.
It is like Thanos in the MCU vs Thanos in the comics. The comics thanos is boring! His intentions are boring! Wipe out the universe to please someone? HE has zero care for people. In the MCU he wants to wipe out half the people because he believes that is what is best... and then endgame says nope he is just a bad guy now because this is past thanos.
Garou Webcomic equals Endgame thanos while Manga Garou equals Infinity war thanos.
Webcomic was good but... I hate it when characters are just psychopaths. That's boring unless you make humour out of it. Garou isn't a psychopath but also is and it is confusing in the webcomic. Same with Saitama, he is not very likeable in the web comic. Mashle is what you get if you like psychopaths. They keep the psychopaths alive instead of killing them? Like...why? This guy literally turned people into dolls he should be locked the hell up!
Mashle is not likeable either, none of the characters in Mashle are likeable. If you like unlikable characters that just fluff around then watch mashle. But Garou who has anger about his past and feels like things are unfair and needs ultimate evil is way more interesting to me.

However, people miss the whole people of Redemption. The line of think of those deserving of redemption is like only healthly deserves a doctor, not the sick and ill. Redemption is for those undeserving who want to change. Webcomic Gouru redemption would have taken longer and more effort in Gouru journey to maintain his good path and earnings people trust again.
Alot of stories with redemption are with characters who are already on path of good. So it no surprise they when they turn good.

So I haven’t read the web comic but I feel like the beauty behind manga Garou is that One manages to trick the reader into routing for him. Garous motives started off as just him routing for the villain or monster. So ONE and murata trick us into routing for this mangas villain. I also like how as he grows into a monster he becomes more human. When we are first introduced to him he is really evil. He’s almost insane. But as the manga continues and as he grows into becoming a monster he becomes more and more human. The monster form actually is very symbolic. The monster shell only cracks because of silver fang and then half the face shatters after Garou hears silver fang. Then as the fight continues and god intervened Garou has finally achieved his goal of becoming the god level threat he wished to become and thus the humanity that was cracking through is now gone leaving but an empty void. After his fight with Saitama his whole face shatters revealing the human face underneath and that’s when we see him at his lowest point in the series which is losing Tareo who he saw himself in. He wanted to make the world a better place for him and Tareo. Honestly Garou is my favorite character in the series and also just my favorite villain of all time.

Despite saying he wants to be a monster, and how hes on the side of monsters, he could never fully monsterize and kept his humanity, the most he could do was create a monsterize shell but underneath it all, even with gods influence, he was still human.

He only awaken after he was smashed by his master who was knocked out when sleeping monster garou was staggered by Bang's punch, Theta brainwave occurs when someone wakes up from sleep. Garou was just waking up and noticed his shell, and he did hear bang's message hidden in his fist. Garou kicks and bolts into the battle, he wants to enact his plan when nothing is in his way.
Garou was attacking Platinum S and the hazardous water creature with the eyes, speed blitzing even by 2-3/100ths of a second while he was previously destroyed some monsters, then after that he noticed Some S-class heroes scattered everywhere around King; then Saitama, Manako and Flashy Flash appeared out of blast's blackhole portal, at that point Garou is confused and not noticing every situation like the reasers know.
he is awaking from his "sleep" many moments passed as Saitama stared into Garou and vice versa via similar pose, Saitama ran past him(which the entire time is huge), Garou thinks of Saitama deeply for reasons, Genos with Saitama comments about Garous Ultra high energy while King talks to Saitama; you can tell that Garou is deeply thinking then few seconds later flashy flashy darts and does a fying kick at Garou which provoked him.
then Platinum S darts in. If any opprotunity Garou will make effort to Perfect his martial prowess.
There will be a point where Monster Garou is out of the Theta brainwave state.
His priorities while his mind is awakening while being influenced by Bang words of "following your heart".
-Prove to the people, citizens of destroying any bias of heroes, protection and what citizens feel, think, and behave about heroes.
-Take out monsters if any are in the way

Bruh webcomic Garou is literally better written, doesn't matter if manga Garou is stronger, the webcomic has better dialogue and Garou's ideas and character is more consistent than the manga, his dialogue with the S class heroes as he puts them 1 by 1, his dialogue with Saitama as he breaks Garou physically and mentally, is so perfect and his character never became goofy in the webcomic, they could have at least mixed the whole cosmic fear Garou while following the webcomic but they didn't, could have been the greatest writing in the manga in today's gen if they went with the webcomic and added cosmic Garou

i didnt see this issue when i first read the manga but now you mention it its easily fixed - you know when saita punches garou and ends things? and how saitama fused with his past self? they could add to that bit in the anime and makes it that the punch transferred some or all of garous memories to current garou which makes sense why would he stop being evil but yeah its not a perfect fix - also im so glad murata didnt go the path of that deleted chapter where saitama wanted to use talk no jutsu on the table

    • @thefifth4669

talk no jutsu on the table was never in the original WC... Garou accidentally saving people from disasters? that's lazy plot that doesn't exist on WC story. It was not Murata and ONE that drives the disney writing of the manga, it was the fandom(who only cares about power scaling).
They bash the WC on how easily Saitama defeated Garou... so ONE decided to change the fights and unfortunately massacred the characters as well.

In the manga the resolution with Bang was too quick

  • @Stefan0v1
    @Stefan0v1 3 месяца назад +2

I think that's why One changed it, and it's for good reason..
Garou will come back into the series, obviously..
One saw that he made Garou too much of a villain in the webcomic and somehow right at the end, after his armor got destroyed, had some remorse...
That's not really that good of a decision, writing-wise..
Going from villain to hero is not acceptable in a very short period of time..Doesn't feel natural.
Anti-hero to hero fits much better..
And that panel with Saitama saying " you will never defeat me" happened in the manga..The grit of it at least, when Saitama said he'd much rather destroy the world than doing X....Don't remember what he said exactly.
Edit: For sure One changed the story with Garous comments about the S class heroes for 2 reasons..
    1) He gave some more characterization to other characters..
    2) Garou sounded like a spoiled child when yelling at each individual heroes calling out their "weaknesess".....

Only problem with Garou in terms of how he fits in the OPM story and universe is he is basically only that one arc. His character is a flash in the pan so to speak, what else could you possibly do with him after his story as a character goes full circle? Might be possible to bring him back later on in the manga, but he'd have to be somewhat of a side character anti hero...otherwise he'd just take over the story

Manga Garou is just 10x better than edgelord webcomic Garou let’s be honest. He wasn’t fighting for anything really, he just roasted a few heroes and beat them up to prove their ideals to save people are wrong, and threatening to kill a kid, just for him to randomly decide that his whole purpose the entire time was wrong and have an edgy breakdown lol. Manga Garou at least had a twisted sense of justice, his ideals against the heroes, and when he won and became a ‘true monster’ a danger to everyone, and saw he had hurt an innocent he cared about like Tareo, then he realised he wasn’t evil like he believed in as a kid, but that he was genuinely hurting people that didn’t deserve it
