- Most DC Comics fans didn't think they could pander harder to the LGBTQ+ community. But recent preview material for DC Comics Pride 2024, shows DC can get gayer than you imagined. The preview art for Al Ewing's Blue Starman story and Jarrett's Williams' Jon Kent Superman story must be seen to be believed. DC Comics are even going to celebrate Pride month on Fourth World, which makes no sense whatsoever. Wes previews DC Comics Pride 2024 anthology book in amazement at just how bad things can get. Just when you though DC Comics couldn't get any gayer.

DC and Marvel must not know or care that they're primary audience is filled with heterosexual men, right?
The gay people I know never buy these books and think it's cringe
@@deadpilled2942 most gays i know are too degenerate to read
@@deadpilled2942They are right, leave it to actual gay men instead of the online activists to have taste. 😅

Pride month is by far the longest month of the year.
Even longer than the year itself.
Man it seems like it never ends It's like every other day is some sort of pride day. There's 2 days I learned about a couple months ago that were just days apart. And then saw on X a list of the days/weeks/months they have and sweet lord it's like it's every day.
Deeper, too. With no lube.
When did it stop?
We need a “Break from Pride Month” so for a good 30 days we do NOT hear constant LGBTQ propaganda.
I can not WAIT…..To never read, buy,or touch this crap.
Yes sir..I wouldn't read it for free
This is not for actual comic book fans. It’s a publicity stunt.
A comic book made by a straight guy and about heroism has become a needle in a hat basket.
Correct. It's tragic. These mother*&ckers are evil.
They remain stacked, untouched and collecting dust at my local comic shop.
Wait, l think they also use them to prop up their uneven gaming tables.
Does the shop actually order aka pay for them or are they sent for free with some Batman books?
Not sure. I am afraid to ask because he may offer me some awesome deal on his unsold issues. I just pretend not to see the growing stacks every time l go in. Willful blindness.
…those poor trees that died for nothing.
I ordered ZERO copies. NoONE requested it or even when I had it up in the DC order book to be ordered No one had any interest at all.
Hi! I know which shop you are at. Can we contact you about stocking a starter pack of the first 3 issues of our title in your store? Or will you be vending at HeroesCon like we are? We could meet you at Heroes instead. Thanks so much, and let us know!
@@heroineburgh sure, send me some info. We like to put local talent on our shelves.
@@johnwycough1955 Fantastic! We're not NC local (we travel to HeroesCon from Pittsburgh), but we are indie. Somewhat similar to FemForce, as we produce both live-action episodes and comic books. I'll contact you today. Meanwhile - I noticed you inked Noble Causes? I loved the Faerberverse (Noble/Dynamo) and it was a big influence. Favorite Faerber superheroines are Scrap and Zephyr!
Why is it that, no matter what characters they're dealing with, no matter what lore they have to work with, etc they ALWAYS include a story or two or three that are basically about the cast going to a pride parade and that's it? There are more familiar beats they always hit, but we already know there's no imagination here.
I think you know what it's about
Starts with G and rhymes with broom.
Jim Lee's DC Legacy: New 52, Hush and lgbtq comics and characters.
@PubeStache
New 52 was actually Dan Didio.
@@vash9760being a non comic book reader at the time, Jim Lee was the person I saw on TV hyping it.
Jim Lee did character redesigns, for New 52. His major contribution was more lines and collars, on the costumes.
Oh right, the “I put piping lines all over the costumes” era.
Oh, and of course, getting many of his 90's friends, from Wildstorm, Image, and Vertigo jobs.
The only way the comic book industry will ever make a comeback will be if a company starts putting a "Gay-Free Content" logo on their covers.
Bunker was introduced in the new 52 and that when everyone started to say Tim was queer coded because he was supporting his follow Titan at a pride parade. People forgot that the Titans are tight group of friends who support each other.
These people don't believe in friendship...if you like somebody that means you want to fuck them.
So I'm afraid that the Ray character is 'The Ray' mostly known for his association with Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters and he had been a straight character right up until "Rebirth". I remember the ongoing The Ray had back in the day and he was an interesting legacy character, now, I guess showing up once a year in a Pride book is all he gets.
Pride month starts earlier and earlier, this year they started advertising in February.
$9.99 for twitter/X gay fanfic....PASS.
Half the characters shown aren't actually gay...despite them wishing it so.
Idk if fanfics go on twitter; i think they have specific websites for that stuff.
But I could be wrong; I don't use twitter.
They would have to be really short stories for twitter
Exactly..
This stuff is what are killing DC and Marvel in nowadays. Who wanna read yayoi romance in a superhero comic?
That's the thing, this stuff exists in Manga, but you know Goku isn't going to spend a chapter with Vegeta talking about their dislike of heterosexuals in a coffee shop. It has its own lane.
Well the idea of 2 guys who work in a team of heroes dating each other isn't absurd, but DC doesn't have the quality writing to achieve that
These writers and artists can do ANYTHING they want in a comic. There's no budget. They can put more action and excitement in a book than any other medium. And they choose to do stuff like this. BORING.
It's their only audience now. I mean, besides Wes.
Trust me, us gays aren’t reading it either.
I would love to see how much money this costs everyone in the comics industry every year. The lgbt community doesn't want to read it, straight people don't want to read it, kids don't want to read it, adults don't want to read it, and no gender from men to mystical deer people want to read it. Its only written for the people writing it, who haven't realised how creatively bankrupt the whole thing is.
Bunker was introduced into the Teen Titans during the new 52.
I think he's the only new Titan that stuck around.
I don't understand on Why there is a Pride month in the comic book industry.
The worst part is that next year it will be the same story again.
May is Military Appreciation Month.
Compared to sales in the 70s and 80s, I can't imagine anything that the two companies are doing comes anywhere close in sales. Crazy basically fan-fic sold as full price comic issues. Super pandering. Thank you Wes.
Do these actually sell? Has anyone here ever bought one of these? I could never in a million years buy one of these comics or a Yaoi manga, absolutely no way, ever.
Only Lunar and DC accounting know the truth, and they aren't taking!
aren't you reading some japanese comic about a lesbian vampire and some
gay dude that like to be tied up?
@@HonduranHoneymoonhon A lesbian vampire? What’s that? The only story with Vampires I’ve read recently is Call of the Night, but she’s not a lesbian and I don’t remember anyone getting tied up.
@@InfamyOrDeath-__- it was like a hitman and a vampire girl and you said gay agenda has ruined lesbians for you.
@@HonduranHoneymoonhon Oh right haha, they’re not vampires, they’re demons and succubus. It does have lesbians in the story but it’s nothing like these comics, it’s an actual good story haha.
Trees died for this non entertainment. Money was burned to achieve this. Brilliant...
So any chance we get a Swimsuit issue this year? Anyone? Anybody? I know they cost less when they made them then this train wreck of a comic. WTF20.
Yo what's happening Thinking Criticalytes!
Anybody know when DC is going to release the DC Celebration of Heterosexual, straight people , Christian, 100 page giant?
I shudder to think about what's ending up in dollar bins and blind bags.
they keep doing it. no one is checking for this
I'm surprised that all current DC and Marvel Comics don't immediately catch fire at this point, they're so flaming.
Wait, I thought this month, last month, the month before that and the one before that... Hell, I thought they ALL were 'pride month'.
Hell, I'm bisexual and I wouldn't even read this crap for free.
What's funny is that I'm sure you're a normal guy or girl. But even the weirdos who are obsessed with gay and lesbian characters don't read or buy this crap. They are doing weird ships in manga and anime, pretending that everything is "gay-coded".
I guess it’s more stuff I can skip.
Once I finish buying all the back issues of fables, I will never buy a dc book again.
There is no need for more than a week for any of these things. All it does is create division.
Why don't they just make romance comics like they did in the 50s and the 60s? Both Marvel and DC had other lines that weren't superheroes. Romance was a big seller and many famous artists and even Stan Lee used to produce romance comics for years. If the focus is romance they should just get rid of the superhero template. They might have more success. There are several successful LGBTQ manga series that also focus on romance and don't pretend to be superhero books. At least try to make something that appeals to readers who buy these books.
They would need to sell quality at an attractive price point to sell, because they can’t rip off the existing fanbase. That would mean to directly compete against manga in a space, where manga has the lead.
2:38 Circuit Breaker is a relatively new superhero who tapped into the Still Force and made their debut in a Lazarus Planet tie-in, last year’s Pride anthology, a Beast World Central City tie-in, and Si Spurrier’s Flash 8.
4:31 Yes.
5:43 It’s likely that this story, like the recent Speed Force miniseries, will fail because of lacking pace and adding Gen z (of which I’m a part of) and/or Gen alpha slang. Also, this story is just going to be about Jon, Jay, Ray Terrill, and Bunker hanging out and doing something. Also, I wonder if this comic will show Jon, Bunker, and Ray talking to Jay about his mom being killed by Bizarro and Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad: Dream Team 2 and asking him if he’s okay because it needs plot, pacing, and something.
6:07 That happened in the post-Flashpoint continuity where Natasha Irons formed a romantic relationship with Tracy Thirteen in the late-2010s, before they broke up off-panel years later.
7:06 Jay Nakamura is Jon Kent’s (in my opinion, unnecessary, forced, and useless) boyfriend who has intangibility, made his debut in the Son of Kal-El series, and is there to remind us that he’s Jon’s boyfriend and nothing else. Bunker appeared in the New 52 Teen Titans series before he was regulated into cameos such as the Rebirth Red Hood and the Outlaws series, Teen Titans Academy, and last year’s holiday anthology where he’s doing It’s a Wonderful Life. Ray Terril is the second Ray and the son of Happy Terril who has several solo series, joined the Freedom Fighters and Young Justice, became a member of the Justice Foundation, and appeared in cameos.
7:27 You are correct, and his Speed Force run is terrible because Gen z slang and not being about Ace and Avery spending time with each other and taking about their personal lives.
9:35 The writer is Calvin Kasulke.
Talking about the slang reminded me of an author years ago talking about how some of the Teen Titans stories from the 1960s feel dated because of all the slang. Some people haven’t caught on that overusing current slang, memes, events, etc. doesn’t make a work modern, it just ensures it will feel dated.
Natasha and Traci were some of the more quieter outings that DC did not make a huge fuss about and Pride stuff been one of the things that help keep them appearing again. I think it was revealed they were dating in Lana Lang's Superwoman book and even in a recent issue of Jaime's new series there still wasnt a reason goven why he and Traci broke up.
Bunker was from New 52 Teen Titans and honestly was one of the better things to come from that era, which wasn't hard especially when Skitter, the other brand new Titan introduced there, disappeared after two issues til the end of the first run and the rest of New 52 TT just being mess. Bunker was at least an original character and a pretty positive one in a dark era of DC and Titans.
Its okay, Circuitbreaker was introduced in the equally forgettable Lazarus Plant event and the biggest thing besides his slow force powers was that he was a trans man (and they do make sure you see his top scars) and goes by he/they pronouns because of course. I am not even exaggerating that this character has mainly appeared in Event one shots and Pride anthologies since he appeared.
EDIT: I'm rusty on my Fourth Wall lore, but I imagine the Love Festival will be on New Genesis not Apokolips? Still, it's hellish torture.
We need to have Dok review this in detail!
I saw the title of the video and I knew I was in for an all time classic wes video
Well, well, well. Jim Lee has lived long enough to see himself become the villain. As sole publisher, he has completely taken a torch to DC's legacy.
Yep...forget Hush...Jim lees about the male tush.
Darkseid, Please come now.
Does this stuff ever sell? Every time a Pride book drops I watch every copy collect dust on the shelf week after week until my shop needs the space for something else. DC has to be producing this crap at a loss.
I remember seeing on reddit some people talking about the pride book from last year getting a second printing. They said "I guess get Woke Go Broke isn't a thing". I know when I've seen these books there are usually like two copies ordered (I'm in the Bay Area btw), and they don't sell. I've never seen anyone buy or ask about that book. There's no way that book required a second printing, UNLESS, it was such a low run that just by pure numbers they put out a few extra. NO ONE wants this!!!
@@cancelme4200 I've never seen a second printing. Either because my shops never ordered them because they didn't sell the first prints or I wasn't really paying attention. I'm leaning towards the former though because I never saw a single copy sell. Maybe there are some places where it sold out but if that isn't the bay area I don't know where it would be. It's also possible they made a second print to create the illusion that it was a hot book, I wouldn't put anything past them at this point.
Show the numbers of sales. If it’s high then ok. If not then what the heck
Every comic so far has been pride related, at this point we should have a "straight month" anthology. It's like you're either gay or nonexistent in June lol
Dc needs to stop, they are killing any interest in anything they create.
God that last story with Harley is just so fuckin bad lol 🤣😂
Whose buying this crap for $9.99!? This will sit on the shelves until next year when it hits the $1 bin.
Remember a year or two ago when Hershey made a big thing about its candy bars representing women’s empowerment (or something) and Skittles had a colorless version for Pride Month (because not having rainbow colors during Pride was supposed to support the community somehow)? I saw a whole bunch of those discounted at Wal-Mart. The target audience said, “Forget you guys! We know you’re patronizing us and only care about our money!” and/or preferred to buy their candy from small, independent sources instead of major corporations. If cheap candy had to be sold at a loss, a badly made ten-dollar comic book doesn’t have a chance.
They ruined June😒
I concur. But if not for this would we ever have had Kevin Conroy's Finding Batman? My life would have been a poorer place without that. I also really liked the Nubia Natasha Irons one in last year's. The way they wrote Nubia in that - a hot headed lady with no understanding of Man's World's technology - was really cool. I wish she was like that all the time.
The trouble with this and the power ones is that too many of the stories are 'I am [insert] and hey you know what? I'm okay with that!'. Although this year's power did mostly avoid that trap. Only the Duke Thomas story went down the usual road.
Thinking about this for quite awhile. The Big Two are just ESG farms now and the alphabet stuff must bump up that score.
Why are they so obsessed?
"Pride Month all year".
In other words, something that the vast majority of your customers have been telling you, and showing you, through refusal to supports it, that they don't want. Sound strategy. Let's give the people what they DON'T want.
If it truly was beloved, CW wouldn't have been ruined, like it was. Shows that once boasted 4-5 million viewers were soon struggling to get 500,000. In the pages, back issues are great. Modern books, though? Cancelled, for low sales, and rebooted, constantly, as soon as they start pushing this. My biggest question isn't just why they keep doing this, but why haven't more of these people been ousted from comics. Point blank, without back issues, there'd be nothing to read.
DC Pride is releasing a Rachel Pollack tribute issue that Joe Corallo in contributing to.
I honestly don't understand why people want representation in midnighter and apollo. I mean midnighter is a blood thirsty psychopath and apollo is kind of stupid. plus, both of them willingly signed onto the authority a group of totalitarian "heroes" that care more about being celebrities then about saving people.
sounds just like gays
minus the blood thirsty
😆
Likewise I don’t get why so many Adventure Time with Finn & Jake fans want Marceline the Vampire Queen to be with Princess Bubblegum when PBG has been shown to be a self-centered, dismissive, and even cruel person who mistreats others. I don’t want to hear, “Oh, she changed!” because people were saying that before whatever changes happened, so it sounds more like an excuse for a toxic relationship made after the fact.
the same thing with Harley and Ivy
@@missmeme3946 Harley?
This is just more proof that if a comic has the letters DC on the cover, it is not worth reading.
There's one lgbtq hero of DC I liked called Bunker and he is nowhere to be seen outside these pride pamphlets
Haven't we reached critical mass on this gay nonsense? Ffs
Not yet, we will only get there, when all the gay heroes will be replaced with the new letters and become pariahs during pride months.
Is ‘Ray’ The Ray? I know he wasn’t gay in his 90s series but is possibly another character who was turned recently in the Uncle Sam minis?
The ray was turned gay for the new 52..
So glad that omnibus and collected Editions exist. I can buy and in some cases re-buy old issue I had as a kid and enjoy when DC was actually good ie the upcoming Superman Triangle omnibus. DC hasn't catered to their audience in what about a decade? Maybe longer? Man I miss the 80s and 90s DC stories. Anyone have a time machine I can borrow???
Maybe it's Absolute Pride Power event, the absolute destruction in sales.
Not interested in DC Pride month this year..
... or any year.
Disney has not pride.😔
I would rather fall asleep ... This is an insult to the gay characters and people in general. There's no hope for DC Comics or Marvel. I feel depressed for the fans.
LOL, also didn’t know Natasha Irons was … a lesbian? Bi? And the last I saw Tracy 13 she was the girlfriend of Blue Beetle (during his first and best run). What‘s going on here?! 😅
EVERY Black woman in Pop Culture is a lesbian now. Natasha Irons,Thunder,Nubia,Vixen,Jo Mullins,Sisters don’t come in “Straight” in these weirdo’s fantasies.Don’t get me started about actually loving a Black man…🙄🙄🙄🙄
Is the bald dude supposed to be Joe Glass ??? That gay comic author???
Every fucking year they be doing that shit and every fucking year no one buys their shit. Man I feel sorry for the countries that have to make those shirts. Imagine wasting 12hrs+ of your life for a whole month and no one buys that shit?
I really would like to see the actual sales numbers on these. Anyway, don't care, we're getting used to this, just more of the same... 'sigh'
My guess on those names:
- Ray: the retconned Ray Terrill ("the Ray" originally from the Freedom Fighters, later the "New 52" Earth-2) who was turned gay by DC.
-Bunker: literally a token character from the New Teen Titans. Latino and gay, can create psionic brick structures. Power effect appears similar to "Armor" of the New Mutants, except Bunker's has an external locus.
Will there be sales numbers released for these issues? Very interested to learn how that turns out. Someone has to order them before they are printed, right?
Ever wonder what happened with the managers and accountants that did such a great job with ENRON? Well, seems like they got a job at these publishing companies.

Been re-reading some of my vintage comics lately, mostly a lot of stuff from the 90s. I've made it thru a lot of my older backlog in the last few years, so that's where I am at - and to be fair: the 90s still had a lot of amazing stuff. So for me, the past is still very much fresh on my mind...
So as someone who just spent the last weekend working thru a bunch of early and mid-90s DC comics (even a few Batman specials from Paul Dini), reading work from a prime Chuck Dixon and even Mark Waid (Kingdom Come).... I watched this upload today and the only thought in my mind was.....
*_...WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO COMIC BOOKS?!!!!_*
*PS:* I consciously know the answer - it just boggles my mind how anyone let us get here. We truly are living in one of the Dark Timelines.
I stopped reading mainstream comics a long time ago. It's saved me money and time that could be spent reading better things...like the back of an aerosol can for example.
They went above and beyond with that first two pieces of art. No room for doubt could be left that these characters are members of the Rainbow Brigade.
For that story "boys on the town" or whatever, I think Jon Kent is actually the one in the wifebeater. He looks very effeminate. Jay straight up looks like a girl. As for the other two. Bunker was introduced in N52 Teen Titans. He is from Mexico and can create psychic bricks. He was actually pretty fun. That Ray guy is some hero with light based powers I believe. That's all I know about the guy.
Gay isnt lucarative. Its just all the sales they have left.
My gay ass when i see the gay cover marvel and dc publish 🤮🤮🤮 how can i get kids to comics these days .when we get garbage like this .
You go and do this!............and Totally redeem yourself!!!!😂
Pride month has been going on for 10 years now
Called it didn't i ?
The last new comic I cared about was the batman/Joker mini série.
In the last 3 years nothing came close.
The X-Men Legends series was the just the old writers closing some old storylines.
Everything else sucks
It's crazy how John Kent used to be a character. They gave him the Iceman treatment, and it's a tragedy.
I have no idea if Natasha Irons was ever written as gay, but Tracy Thirteen, unless I'm wrong, used to date Jaime Reyes. So, when did she become gay?
Fourth World includes New Genesis and Apokalips. A pride parade on New Genesis is also stupid nonsense however.
10.00$ is crazy 🤣
Do people even buy the Pride issues?
another waste of trees.
55 issues?! Holy cow
Who actually buys blatantly gay-themed and gay-marketed books which are about nothing other than being gay? At the LCS where I often shop, I only know *one* trans person (a very vocal activist) who even comes into the store, and it's located right in the middle of the university area. What imaginary audience are these books for? Can't this phenomenon be figured out with some inside information from within DC? Does DC get paid some kind of kickback by advocacy NGOs? Do they make all their money back just selling them to librarians? I can't really understand it. And I have no problem at all with gay characters - we have several lesbians in our superheroine lineup. But the point of our series is to be colorful, sexy, and action-packed with a compelling ongoing narrative. Not to be gay.
I used to like Dreamer when she was written as a hero who happens to be trans in Supergirl, that show just went off the rails years before being cancelled and having Dreamer starting to remind people thet they were trans almost every episode, just soured me on the character. What a waste of potential, could have been fun.
Just rename the company GC Comics and get it over with.
I've tried a few series from Ewing and I just don't like the way he writes. He starts off with a cool story, then jumps all over the place, makes it needlessly confusing and I get lost and lose interest just when I think the story will actually get good. Man is he overrated right now
All of comics NEEDS a new version if the Legacy Virus. If they're going to obsess over these privilleged narcissists let's give them a problem they can't beat over 10 panels of discussion over brunch. Back to Narnia with them !
I laughed, I cried, I kissed 9.99 good bye! I can’t even imagine these specials from DC stink bombs waste way more money than they even come close to making any kind of profit🤪
Now I feel like you guys are not valuing the book for what it is. They're perfect for propping up an uneven table.
Oh ffs
Bobby Drake isn’t gay. Marvel is.
Just what comic fans asked for and wanted. Pride comics all year round
Bunker is that gay character from The New 52 teen Titans that has the purple bricks
is it just me, or is "pride month" roughly 7-9 months long? theres no way this special attention / focus / event only comes around once a year. Thats not counting the regular push, agenda or over emphasis on teh subject, im just talking about the dedicated "month".
Look forward to seeing these in the dollar bin
More like looking forward to seeing these in the garbage bin
Bunker was a member of the titans for a while during the new 52 and the other one was a uninteresting trans character from a story I didn’t know even happened
