Hello from Nova Scotia, Canada. I'm almost finished your Shovelhead series and it is very good and very detailed. I wanted to say thank you for wearing Veterans Crisis wrist bands. I am a Veteran of the Canadian Navy, 26 years. One of my bikes is a 79 FXEF. The engine is being rebuilt at my buddy Ralphs place, @itsmytimeletsgo I'm also having fun on my channel and spreading my message of Wrenching For Wellness. Thanks, Keep on Wrenching 😁

Excellent video. I have to say that as far as I can tell, no one does it better than you. I appreciate your thoroughness. Attention to detail. Helpful hints too. I have the old 77 FLH Shovelhead that I've taken care of as a good friend should for 35 years. Some things from me, I have an adapter bought decades ago for the drain in the oil tank. Use a 1/2 half inch wrench to turn open the release valve for oil drainage. I have added clear tubing so as to alway have a funnel attached kind of. I lost the drain plug for a 1979 Sportster on the way to the beach once while moving at speed. Pushed her to a shade tree mechanics house nearby and we searched for an hour for a suitable replacement for the oil drain plug. It was magic threads and the only thing that had the same threads was a craftsman gear puller shaft. He let me use it and I mailed it back to him after my trip. That was 1983. Also, back in 1994 on my way to Myrtle Beach atop the Electra-Glide, I lost nearly all my oil before I could get stopped due to the original oil tank cap cork gasket being so worn that all my return oil bypassed the cap. I turned the cork gasket upside down and got thru the trip with no more oil loss. Cleaning out the oil tank like you so is impressive. I use a starter solenoid cover so, accessing my oil filler cap on my kickstarter cover is not possible. So what I've done for decades is to remove the 5 mm screw from the cover and use my old timey oil can with the long metal bendable filler arm. The tip goes into the 5 mm plug hole and I pum till it flows backwards. Dedicated engineers oil can. I will mimic you in the future!

What was the name of the tool that you used to pull the transmission fill cap? You have a great channel I love to watch it.

Great detailed video of how some basic maintenance should be performed. Your clean out of the oil tank is identical to what I've done on my '79 Fxef since it was purchased new.
The inside of my oil tank looks brand new, despite being 45 yrs old. I would make 1 suggestion while watching you work, & that is to wear gloves (vinyl, nitrile, latex, etc) to protect your health
and keep oil & chemicals from contacting your skin. Any of those substances can / will be absorbed into your skin & can eventually enter your bloodstream. Not a good thing, & easily avoidable.
Keep up the good work in producing your detailed & informative videos. Thanks for taking the time & effort in producing them.

Great series. Wish my 4 speed was sealed as well as yours, one of my lower mounting studs is leaking. Looking forward to going through it though. Deka now has a nice sealed AGM battery for our vintage, P/N ETX-16. I recently got one from Autozone under the Duralast name and it fit great and has 325 cca.

That 4 speed leaked from every direction, only a rebuild provided the opportunity to address every possible leak
