I've literally never seen someone be this real. In public. To music. Where have I been all this time? I'm crying.
I said the same thing. Feel ashamed of myself at age 58, I just discovered her. I've listened to her over and over. She's a genius, a legend an icon 👏
She died in Paris all alone
She was going through bipolar disorder episodes during this time
32, played guitar for 20 years and I've played classical, jazz bands, prog metal, everything. I just discovered her about a year ago.....I cried immediately at her scoffing at fame, the whole damn thing. I have written instrumentals that made people cry and what she did here is on such a human level I can't touch....it's Daniel Johnston mixed with your unabashed grandma mixed with childlike curiosity and honesty
@@danielp7394 I am surprised u have not heard of her she died alone in Paris I think it was about 76 I first heard her
After watching her documentary this video has a whole new meaning dimension. She was in so much pain at this time, suffering with bipolar disorder. It was her first concert in many years, she mustered all her strength to be on the stage because she needed it for the money. You can see how tired she wa, yet flawlessly performing and being extremely authentic
What documentary did u watch?
Sorry what's d name an were can I find it...she always makes makes me cry...love her to bits..xx❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
If anyone knows d name of d documentary an were I can find it....greatly appreciated....❤❤❤deffo is a ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Legend tru it all....xxxxsadly missed...xxxx❤❤❤❤❤
Whole room terrified and mesmerized by her power
Greatest comment ever. Happy birthday Nina😪😪
😭
so am I ; from the chair behind my screen .. right now
Terrified??? She makes me feel exhilarated, happy to be a woman, too. She was like no one else.
@@silviac221 i think he meant intimidated
Oooh children, this is a true storyteller. The face, the voice, the emotion, this is perfection. It translates beyond song to life. Thank you, Ms. Simone
I have seen Nina in concert, the passion is captured. I’m going through the same emotions now as then
The fact that the “i wish i’ve never lived this long” line wasn’t even an original lyric by Morris Albert makes this just extra emotional and intense.
Most of what she said wasn't in the original lyrics. And just as well, this song became famous when I was a child and I always thought it was silly. Today, listening to this version for the first time, I received confirmation from Nina, no less!
just the triumphant look she gives after uttering this. one really can relate. it is deep despair over what life might not bring again and yet one looks so comic at the same time. it is just terrible.
she speaks (with her words, her tone, her face and whole body, her fingers on the piano...) She feels and makes us feel. It's like she's building and crumbling the world around us... she's taking us and making us float through a jorney all hers... It's so powerful, so... human and vulnerable... so... I wish I had the ease to use all this as she does, I can't even put into words a fair description without rumbling too much, and I end up feeling what I said wasn't enough.
I was there for this performance. She was awesome.
WOW I have sat endless hours watching this performance for years wondering what it must have felt like to be there! Absolutely a gift you received :)
How old are you?
@@mamellomogase2447 OLD! At least 8000!
such an experience ! unforgettable
@RedRosamond 😂😂😂😂😂 you belong in a museum
Watching someone “in the zone,” as she clearly was, is a spiritual experience. This is sublime.
Indeed...she was in pain...and when you are in pain ...you let GO ...YOU LOOSE FEAR..
YOU REACH INFINITY
YOU CRY USING MELODY,EMOTION.
YOU LOOSE YOURSELF TO YOUR FEELING...
When a musical performance has no intent, no aim to go from point A to point B, when it's not trying to be anything other than what it is, when the listener can't tell the singing and the storytelling apart, when the moment is the only thing there is, when the artist does not get in the way of the music, when you're not sure if you're being led off a cliff or up the throne of Zeus on Mount Olympus, that is where magic lives. Nina Simone is all of that and more - terrifying and beautiful.
Sublime, formidable woman.
Precisely what I was thinking - but could never ever have put into words - and you have perfectly.
You described my feelings exactly, except much more poetically! I am enamored, fascinated and terrified of her power and talent.
Actually magnificently put. That’s where the art sparks something inside you in every aspect of our true essence.
I have been revisiting this version of Feelings frequently, still can't believe Nina could bring this cheesy tune to this level of complex emotions. She understand pain, and she stares right at the people who are loosing humanities and shook their dying soul. After that powerful speech, all they did was laugh. This version of the song is even more relevant now when things declined drastically from the 70s, we are all happy to plug into varies kind of 'machines' and 'systems'. I wish I have that ability as a musician, this is what we all should try to achieve, making people feel.
Thank you Nina Simone.
😭😭😭😭 I guess when people are hit with something they don’t know how to handle, they get nervous and laugh.
It is anything but cheesy.
She wouldn't have picked it otherwise.
@@stipetv1548 that’s a fact
Not cheesy, why put this small minded dig here? It doesn't help Nina.
Proving for the millionth time Nina Simone was the most amazing musician/singer ever...miss you
"I wish i never lived this long" Devastating 😭😭😭😭
Everytime it gets me!!
I really felt that 😞 she was so real.
Her facial expression when she says it 😔
I understand her. ❤
If you dont a chance you live dat
.
the older i get the more surreal it feels to know that i was there that night
but i was
and never forgot one second of it⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I would probably be stunned by the amount of emotion aimed at me by a single person, but still, YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN LOUDER. I'm jealous.
this is absolutely unbelievable you're so so lucky and would be so grateful to be even deaf and in the same room for arguably nina simone's best performances / most famous performances of her entire career
years ago i thrifted a beautiful music box that plays "feelings". it has a rotating telephone on it, you can pick it up. the song is part of my life but i didnt know the name and i thought i would never hear the full tune.
BOJACK HORSEMAN used this version of Stars in an episode, and it made an impact on me.
years later, i come to check out this video. no idea what feelings is.
i was already crying, but when i realized that i finally found the song, here in this heart-wrenching moment with nina pouring her soul out onto this beautiful tune that haunts my dreams.... serene surreal sublime soaring
thank you nina thank you bojack
You made a difference to me today, thanks.
how did she manage to look so fragile and yet so powerful at the same time.
Because of how soulful she sang u sometimes forget she was a classically trained pianist.... that jazz...blues .... where her second and third musical languages.... she spoke all of them so fluently.....so beautifully...... #FromTheSoul
❤️ Beautiful Soul ❤️
@@tammyleederwhitaker649 how are you doing today my name is Eric Moore and how is the weather over there
I can never forget the story of how she was supported to study by people in the community, many who were white, who recognised her special talent and financed to prepare to audition for Juilliard. Unsurprisingly and shamefully she was denied due to the colour of her skin.
No one surpasses this writer who commanded the english language, a sophisticated composer and arranger, and exemplary performer.
And she was a sage, Nina surpassed them all.
Her skill and her gift worked hand in hand - definitely. Her training was very important.
❤ 16 october 2023
I cried throughout this performance. I don’t even remember the last time I cried, let alone for being touched by art, not because something is going on in my life. I feel so alive now! We are so lucky to have had Nina
nina was a dream we had
Same.
6 years ago, I experienced a major depression that almost cost my life because of unbearable heartbreak and loss, I never thought I would be able to make it through after that, all thanks to this. I always come back to this video of Nina Simone. As if the song she's singing is saying, "I feel you, and it's OK" ❤️
You are not alone!
the world hears you.
How am I just learning about this beautiful soul at age 32?? Why is this not apart of our basic education? Currently in tears...
In America it should be, which is a goddamn shame. And she was from here 🇺🇸
At least you've found her now. Everything comes at the right moment (;
Im right there with ya. Heard one of her songs on the series THEM and searched her out . I ended up here 3 songs later. Very good soulful music. 👍
The American government obviously doesn’t believe art is a worthwhile form of expression.

No
Here in my heart
You'll always stay here in my heart
No matter what the words may say
You will stay here in my heart
No matter what the day
You will stay here in my heart
No matter what they say
No matter what they compose or do
No matter what the drugs may do
Or songs may do, or people may do
Or machines will do to you
I will always have my feelings
Nothing can destroy them
Cause I know that that is all that there is at the base
For you
The greatest performance ever. Period
The audience just doesn't understand how important they are because the unison in the last part of that song was just downright beautiful
When you have seen the end of this video, you know that Nina Simone didn't ask people to listen. She made people to listen.
She made people to listen
On her first gig in a jazz club after being refused entry to Julliard she stopped playing, to paraphrase; to tell the punters to shut up and listen, suffice to say they did, loved it, and the rest is history.
How come there's 800,000,000 people on this planet and less than a million have ever watched/listened to this.
"Ayy girl... Sit down!"
If you wonder what story those eyes tell... I recommend netflix documentary about Nina "What happened Ms. Simone". It's great!
I didn't like how her daughter was downing her. I know it's her truth but sometimes it isn't what you say it's the delivery. Plus she'll never know what it was like to be her.
@@felinefokus I'm glad she was honest and did not glorify her to the extreme. Nina was a human, had her us and downs like we all did... She definitely wasn't an angel but I think that she couldn't. She ones said in some interview that "she has fire, because fire moves things"...
@@dariuszstawicki9048 yes it was gr8 for her to be transparent and speak her truth. Nina also hid nothing she always showed you or told you exactly how she felt.
@@felinefokus It was fair. If your mother abuses you, there is no excuse. I love Nina, and treasure her talent, but it doesn't excuse the abuse received or given. Its not one or another. She was a horrible person to her daughter. And the fact that she is my favourite artists in all times, she still can't get away with physical abuse. As well as the men who abused her. That's what she is singing about.
@@felinefokus She has every right. It’s the truth. I feel terrible for what Nina went through, and I know by experience that pain will twist you up. There’s no excuse for child abuse, it’s just tragic no matter how you slice you. Abuse is like a wheel and someone needs to break it someday.
She died alone in Paris ...my tortured darling RIP I often think of you xxxxxx.....this is pure ab lib no rehearsal...Janice jopplin...billie they are,all there with her
Not exactlly ,she died in Bouc Bel Air in South of France, Next to Marseille
But nobody will never forget her...
She is HAPPIER NOW THAN EVER BEFORE! We FOREVER😍&💜YOU Nina:D
The whole 76 Montreux performance is definetly a monument in human culture!
Some of crowned,
Some are downed,
Some are lost and never found.
The pain she is feeling is so sad, so real. She kills it on that piano!!!
I love her showing disdain for this audience. If you watch her earliest live shows, the all white and unenthusiastic crowds always stood out to me. She deserved so much better
Agreed
I can’t even imagine the toll performing this song would take
on wiki: During a lecture at Chautauqua Institution, Julie Andrews stated that she considered this song too difficult to sing because it had no meaning behind it.
wow. and yet nina simone puts more meaning into it than i've heard in pretty much any other song. i'm devastated every single time i watch it. nina simone is incredible.
A virtuoso human being at her apex of creativity and improvisation. What a joy as a human to watch her.
Uma mulher incrível
Was able to see her last ever live performance at Carnegie Hall in 2002. She passed in 2003.. She had the same fight in her against the Gov. and George W. You witnessed glimmers of her past and looked into her soul.Priceless!
You are the luckiest wow 👏
Yes, it was a blessing.
She said "It goes..." then proceeds to interpret her feelings to music. What a beautiful moment.
there's no one better.
Agreed
The queen👸
17 minutes were not enough.. uhh so moving, raw and touching😭
There are some archives that have this entire performance, including her encore of sinnerman. I would 100% recommend watching the entire thing, its just a little over a hour
@@mutetotoro yes but i meant this two songs. I'll surely watch the entire thing, thanks
Mr Totoro could you tell me how to access the entire performance?
What kind of talent is this? Ohh God, those who attended the event were indeed privileged. The best I’ve ever seen. 😢
How could anyone dislike this masterpiece?
The Govs & Feds
Not one did here, at least not yet.
bow to the lady, the way she feels, she talks, she plays, the way she looks ... her existence there is colossal
She lives every word when she’s singing, yet she feels so numb.
I miss you Nina. I feel what you feel. I wish I was with you, wherever you are now, I wish I was with you, singing.... It is not easy to carry a broken heart, but whoever is reading, move on... even if you are alone, move on. I love you. Be brave.❤
People always say they want the ability to fly. I want the ability of being Nina Simone during her performance, im positive it is more intense and passionate than soaring in the air like an eagle.
What she does with feelings is pure alchemy, brilliance
This is so magical it makes my stomach hurt. Notice how, at the 9:47 mark, she quotes Leon Russell's piano line from A Song For You, homage to Russell and "Stars," the first tune of this amazing medley. So WOW.
..and then Bach at 14:00
I wish I never lived this long…
She can easily make me cry in 3 minutes. What a woman!
She is like an open flower,
I feel silly that I had never heard of her. I listened to this song and cried... a really good one. So beautiful. I cant wait to know more about this "queen".
That's Ok.. Listen to her LYRICS today. Nina is COLD BLOODED AWESOME. Listen to Mississippi GODAMN.
Wendy, I want to do a Theater PRODUCTION on The High Priests of SOUL "NINA SIMONE". My Auntie Olive from Chi Town introduce me to her music in Cgo when i wads 14yrs. old. I have been struggling for years to produce HER LEGACY.
Singing, Dancing & Costumes. OH Yeah, OH Yeah. I know all her lyrics & I will guide you- my sister. We can do this. Nina's music is for our time RIGHT NOW.
Mississippi GodDamn.
Lets Do This.
never too late as they say
Look for Wild is the wind. Awesome!! 🙋♀️👋
Wendy, her story is on Netflix
WOW! Just WOW! So brutally honest and daring! She works the audience so powerfully. They just get quieter and quieter. There was no one like her.
It's good to know I'm not the only one crying every time i hear this. Thanks.
The greatest performance for any one, raw, unrehershed totally shocking in emotional performance and through a bipolar episode
As a classical pianist , she uses her voice in the same manner as her skilled classical fingers waltz over the piano keys. She was a musical genius that the mediocre society she lived in didn’t not have the intellectual level to understand. I get her constrained rage. I get her genius , what a consummate performer. For those lucky enough to have witnessed her talent, what an honour . Bravo Ms.Simone!
I think that was truly one of her biggest sadness of her life. That she wasn't a "true" classical pianist. However greats like this are chosen.
Today’s singers might be technically superior but have nothing close to Nina’s ability to convey emotions. This is what music should be about. Beautifully arranged too, I love the ‘passing storm’ at the end of the first song. I also adore seeing the challenge in her eyes as she looks around the audience, guard completely down.
damn her skill as a pianist is so good!
I just love her. She puts so much emotion and originality to her music, her voice, the audience were just intimidated by her presence. Her eyes express sadness but also searching in the audience with hope, and even though she recognizes the pain of feeling she goes against it with faith. Simply beautiful. Wish I could've been there.
one of the greatest live performances of all time
Nobody gives enough credit to the drummer...
She is the writer I want to be if I grow up one day...
This is deep, breathtaking. Made me feel what was deep down in my heart, it made me remember a loss, to love, and when I did love hard..Its healing at the same time reminding me of how fragile life is and how love is powerful. I cried my soul out....I was captivated in a good way..Stunned. I felt this woman heart...As well as my own. She song my story. Love and respect.
This makes me wish I was born half a century ago
she's something else, captivating to watch
I love you, Miss Simone.
We do
I love your respect you just said it so purely ❤️
Holy sh*t, this is the most real performance I've ever seen. This is levels beyond what I've ever experienced. So thankful that this exists.
Our whole lives captured in one song.
Such a beautifully rich, real and soulful woman... Her diagnosis very well been a part of her gift-- misunderstood.

She was almost too much to take in, especially from a woman at that time.
@@silviac221 how are you doing today so where are you from
Her music is timeless and its’ essence radiates even today. 🥺❤️

Yes... I think that's the storytelling aspect of her performance ♡ as a Musical Theatre performer and Jazz singer, she has my absolute attention

I don't know any young female vocalists nowadays that can do this type of music. Not Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, or even Adele. This woman had incredible spirit and skill.
The people you named cannot hold a candle to Nina Simone. The aforementioned teeter toward manufactured pop music. Nina was on another musical planet and always unabashedly authentic.
The PURE talent, emotional and artistic intelligence, beauty and power of this woman always leave me without words. She was a unique and gorgeus Artist
Wish she still was still around to do another live performance like this again...Rip 🙏
The Greatest Artist ever to have lived!!!
Along with Jacques Brel who also lived the songs he sang!
7:46 as a singer/performer that is one of the most incredible revelations I have ever seen.
Realizing that behind a simple song could exist such a terrible and sad story. Knowing the story of a piece or at least thinking about it can make the whole world of difference.
Waow feel those fingers on the piano💖💯
I’ve never been so in love ❤ dang, isn’t she beautiful/lovely ❤
I am left stunned by this every time I watch it. It makes me weep. Every time. There will never be another like you, Miss Simone.
Memorable night seeing her perform at The Village Gate. Someone was talking. She took her hands off the piano and sat there until the talker recognized what she was doing. It was amazing. And her performance? Wow.
This is so unbelievably moving. I'm just sort of, hypnotised by her. It's really weird. I feel like the whole thing is an eternity but not in a bad way.
We could listen to you all day Ms. Nina ...
You won't learn this at the music school ...
It's either you have it or you don't ...
Nothing I could say would ever compliment this performance or her incredible talent enough. Nina Simone touches my spirit.
I come to this song whenever I feel down, to remind myself of the collective struggles we face.
This song validates the stories we battle accepting, we cannot rewrite what we are failing to acknowledge
One of the best things i've ever heard
Stars is incredible but Feelings, for me it's even more. It's just perfect, i hear it every day. Thank you Madam
How can you not cry with this
Chills when she dangles the keys with feelings, what an exceptional performance 👏 🙌 👌
Hope you found your peace Nina. Thank you for having been among us. Groetjes.
The songs she sings would and should be honored to know who is interpreting their words. There's no one, nor ever will there be anyone, like Nina Simone. She lived every word she sang, and I'm personally honored to have had the chance to hear them. What a gift she is to this world.
