I'd be genuinely surprised if Beat Saber didn't come to the Quest. Just because certain games won't be available on launch doesn't mean they won't come within the weeks/months afterward.
Bigscreen is my favorite VR program, but it bugs me that they keep my screen locked horizontally (at least last I checked). Makes it really hard to watch things laying in more comfy positions.
Strange, it's not like that on Vive, I often use bigscreen while laying flat in my bed and looking up at a screen. Are you trying to use the main screen on a map or the moveable screens?
moveable screens, but I essentially want them upside-down (looking "up" while laying flat on your back) or on its side as well... maybe I missed a setting somewhere.
You know how to grip and move the screens and the tablet right? Like, what I do is that I get into bed, sit up, and grab my screen with the vive grip and put it as far up as possible before the screen goes upside down, then lay flat. However, if you still have trouble with this, there is a bedroom map that has a big screen specifically made for looking up at the ceiling. Or do you mean you want to rotate the screens so that they're vertical, as in you lay on your side and the screen is flipped on it's side with you? Cause yeah, that's not an option.
Yeah, that's part of it, wanting it on its side with me. But also when looking up, I usually don't want to look directly up, because my head is tilted slightly past vertical. so the screen flips on me. Now I'm wondering if flipping my monitor orientation might trick it into displaying the way I want. Probably not though.
concerning haptics... texture is important to the feel, also not just an amazon box or flat smooth surface (unless it's a flat smooth surface in VR obviously). I've done experiments in rift/UE4 where I can't HELP but trigger presence when the two align. For example in my real life car (in VR in a HIGH quality model), sat in it, the in VR cam/seat lined up with my real life seat (computer seat.. leather), looking behind and touching the virtual car seat when it's exactly where the back of my real world chair is triggers presence, it can't even be worked against, it never fails.. even when I'm telling myself it's not real.. once you have that it's there! One night I got so lost in VR in that car, in UE, in a random enviroment I'd created that was quite dim, with just a faint light spilling in through the virtual car windows across the dash and seats... many many times I forgot I was just on my computer chair, and honestly thought I was out in my garage at 3am sat in the real car.. (in fact I tried to put my touch controller down on the passenger seat more than once.. totally convinced I could until it didn't touch anything!) this was just down to high quality graphics, 'realistic' lighting (no cartoon stuff), and low enough ambient lighting to fool the eyes and blur realities... factor in the arm rest/seat covering lining up in reality and it's the best presence I've ever had in VR yet. Can't wait for Rift 2... Quest isn't gonna do it for me and my needs but will be cool for the newcomers. I don't want devs dumbing down the idealism of VR just to be compatible with Quest. Quest will be fun, lots of positives, but it'll stall VR from a dev/idealism/end point if everyone just focuses on numbers/casuals rather than always aiming to the ideals of WHAT VR was meant to be from the start (see Astro Bots as another worrying detour from 'real' VR that while it gets numbers in it'll set a low bar on what devs will aim for , ignoring VR Idealism. I can't jive with that.. VR needs all the power and fidelity it can get, not less). And yes it also needs to be easy to use, light, no wires etc... but right now both are compromised, quest isn't for me no matter how easy to use because I know i'd get bored of it, playing beat sabre type stuff when there's so much more that VR has to offer than even today's PCs and HMDs can't offer yet!
Just wanted to point out that Norm used "asynchronous" instead of "asymmetrical" about five times here. I have now heard at least three different content creators mix these specific words up, am I just behind the times and popular use of "asynchronous" has changed its meaning?! Now I'm not sure anymore! 😅
Off topic, but I really hate when ads are baked into videos. I pay for RUclips premium to avoid ads but most of the bigger channels have them baked in these days (I guess because of ad blockers?). Had to unsub from a couple of channels because it was just too much. I don't know if it's a viable solution, but would it be possible to have a premium only channel which is exactly the same content but minus the ads?
They can lower hardware costs if some software is locked to the hardware subsidizing it. Both Steam and EA Orion started with locked content to get people to use the store/platform. People hate it but it works. People stopped hating Valve for Steam and started holding up Gabe as a God meme.
if the inside out tracking for 6dof + dual 6dof controlers tracking is done on the 835, how much memory bandwith and gpu power is available for the apps ? how is dual 6dof controller tracking done (optical in visible light only ?) ? it must be comparable with the go's 821 that is fully available for the apps.
@@Cooe. I thought I knew how dsp and GPU work because I cioded in assembly for dsp56001 and I wrote a full opengl driver, we always need to learn i guess
OMG, instead you guys get stuffs from the guy, you guys just keep talking talking talking between you two, and speculating theories and giving your opinions... interview the guy, that is all.
Hm, honestly I think it would be better to pursue smartphone and PC tech. Plenty of people already have smartphones/PCs and will pick up a pair of googles. Less people will buy an all-in-one set. Lenovo already tried that. It's not really selling compared to the Smartphone based competition.
P.A.N.D.E.M.O.N.I.U.M. As a developer all I care, in the end, is how many people buy my game. Out of the millions of GearVRs sold were used once or twice, just to "check out what is VR". On the other hand Vive/Rift owners are usually hard core fans of VR and will spend hundreds of both dollars and hours. If someone gets hooked on VR with Oculus Go this means they will keep on spending more time and money for content. Unfortunately it's still problematic and a little bit of a chicken and egg situation. The market is small because people don't see that much quality content, and there's no point in developing quality content for such a small market. Glad Oculus is actually putting a lot of effort into expanding the whole market.
VR minute 00:00
Beat saber on Quest.... now that would make it interesting...
I'd be genuinely surprised if Beat Saber didn't come to the Quest. Just because certain games won't be available on launch doesn't mean they won't come within the weeks/months afterward.
Thanks for the awesome coverage guys!
Great talk, love to see him back
Wondering why I cant find these podcasts on Spotify...
Haha, the "Aha-Take-On-Me-look", nice.
Very tempted by the quest. VR is movin so fast. Good Times.
Should have named it, "Oculus Prime"
and the info is out, glad to see a quick recap

Or a more simple solution would to be like, to get an extra pillow or something.

Adding materiel properties and using displacement maps can have the information required for that.
To much love for apple at the ending lol
YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
that background bass was intense lol
Seen through the eyes of legends
I tracking is next for all VR companies

Damn the future looks promising in the realm of entertainment tech.

Kishore lost some weight and shaved!?
and got whiter
I am buying it the momment its at my nearist best buy lmao please make more videos on the oculus quest i need to hear more about this thing
We must not allow a mineshaft gap!
Oof, was just about to fall asleep!!
Just rename it to The VR Five Hours. Problem solved.
Why doesn't Rift and Vive merge there content. This would make adoption much faster. Shitty Splitting like Windows vs Mac doesn't help

Would watch if there was an index so i can skip all the Quest bullshit!
Am I the only one that thinks Darshan Shankar's voice has some seriously dulcet smooth tones. Dude should be on the podcast more.

Nope. Go learn how GPGPU & DSP's work... -_-

Cool
Stupid standalone crap.. Get to work on a high fidelity PC headset already!
80% "Media consumption"... I thought it used to be called "research", I see it's now been renamed to "media consumption".
Noice

It's a podcast not an interview, they're having a group conversation.

What a prick.

Actually Oculus Go vs GearVR contradicts this. Lots of people own GearVR, but don't use it, but Go is used quite often. It's all about retention.
Mopic3d Hmm, so you're arguing that it's not about the # of units sold but the # of hours the unit is used and customer retention.
A fair point.

Mopic3d I don't know if they've been improved recently, but afaik GearVR sucks ass. The resolution is so fucking bad it's not even funny.
Boring! Where`s the one day builds OR any sort of build!
Boring comment, goes with the boring "chat fest" again.
I will take your apology ,even though its boring : )
