We had our rescue dog on Sunday . She came into the house and peed in the rug , went into the garden and did a number two , came into the house and ate a bowl of food . She then found her bed and toys and immediately made herself at home . Day two ( full days ) she has had a day of no accidents and is so good . She demands to sleep in her bed in our room but that’s ok . She lay on the bed today and was in heaven . The look when she was moved to her own bed was so funny . It’s like she has always been here . We know we have been so lucky with her .
We rescued a 3 month old boxer puppy, she seems to think she must potty on a hard surface, such as concrete or inside. How do I help her understand she can potty on the grass?
I did I just adopted a senior chihuahua from paws and pixes rescue. He is a tiny fellow. These tips were helpful. I am letting him get used to his surroundings. Question, how can I get him to use the bathroom outside? When he was in foster he got used to using the pads to use the bathroom on, I wann change this behavior if I can.
I adopted a 3 year old dog who had 3 previous owners plus the kennel stays in between. He was highly anxious and reactive at first, and most of the people i knew told me to return him to the shelter. But I paid for a dog trainer and she was amazing. She told me honestly that it could take between 6 and 12 months before he started showing his true potential, but she also saw how much he was willing to work with me. 15 months later, nearly EVERYONE who knew him before comments about his gentle nature and how obedient he is now. It wasn't easy getting to this point but I believe it was really strict boundaries (consistency, not punishment), and tonnes and tonnes of positive reinforcement that got us where we are now :)
I know I'm a year late but I want to say congratulations on sticking with your pup and also thank you for saving him. We saved an anxious reactive dog 10 years ago we trained and managed him but his anxiety would never be able to be completely gone and that was okay. We kept him safe and loved and rescued him from a kill shelter. He turned out to be so loving and amazing everyone loved him he just didn't like dogs and that was okay with us. We just lost him two months ago and we are in the process of saving another that is on the euthanasia list with similar issues. Already have a trainer on standby hoping we can get even further this time with the experience we have from my first boy and soul dog
I love there was no annoying background music and she doesn’t smack her lips either after every sentence like most youtubers. Thank you for that ma’am!! I learned a lot and her dogs are lucky to have her!!
Adopting a rescue dog can be really challenging but it's also very rewarding. My mixed breed Yorki is 8 years old and he was never trained and socialized. It took me 5 weeks to make him understand that the living room is not the place to release himself. During the first 2 weeks we went outside every 2 hours. A few times I had to get up at 3 am and take him out (minus 17 degrees)! Patience and a lot of positive reinforcement was neccessary to overcome this behavior. 14 months have passed and he has settled in. It takes time to integrate a traumatized rescue dog in the family.
Love it! Yes, patience and some understanding is really key. The more we can consider our dog's experience as they navigate the world, the better. We are their key to a larger, happier world!
Woah I sure hope you mean Celsius. The world needs more people like you. Thanks. Edit: do you have fenced yard? Because I would not feel safe going out at 3 in the morning... All these things discourage me from getting a dog and I end up just volunteering at a shelter.
I just adopted a homeless Border Collie mix puppy and I’m going through of it! My last best friend of ten years passed away almost two years ago and I think I’m ready! A little nervous but he’s learning that truck rides mean “fun adventures “!
My best pal Tobias passed almost a month ago. He was a beautiful blue nose pitbull I rescued him when he was 3 and had him 8 years untill cancer. He was no problem except when outdoors off leash he'd run every time. He outgrew that. I'm about to adopt a new pal sunday. He's almost 1 year old and has been at the shelter since he was 8 weeks as part of a 10 puppy liter. He was the last one of the liter. He's a good looking guy and seems kinda chill for his age. He hasn't got to his new home yet, though. 😅 I think I may have my work cut out for me. I appreciate the video and tips on bringing in a new pup.
THIS IS TOTALLY HELPFUL! I just adopted my first rescue dog four months ago, a SUPER HIGH ENERGY 1-year-old Lab/Staffordshire terrier. I am age 71 and my husband is age 76 and while we have trained Labs before this is a totally new situation. I have never had such a vocal dog before so it took me a while to understand what she was telling me. I began with basic commands; sit, stay, come, no, wait, leave it etc. Ginger is very smart but also came highly stressed as she had never lived out of the crate her first year, had never been in a car, on a lead, up the stairs etc. I have spent the first four months acclimating her to our busy dog friendly condo, the bike trail where runners, dog walkers, bikes, scooters and more. Our challenges now is barking at our neighbors as they come and go on the common hallway and barking and growling at other dogs. I have a trainer coming next week to assist me with those skills.
GREAT CONTENT!! I just rescued a Puppy and this is new to me I had my Precious Furbaby for 16 years from 2 weeks old and put him to rest on August 18 2022 out of LOVE!! And this Video HELPED me Tremendously🙏❤
It’s always helpful to make rewarding behaviors more accessible! If you set up your environment with treat jars, you’re more likely to reward behaviors more frequently throughout the day rather than letting them go unnoticed! :)
Can you do a video talking about adopting a dog that was rescued from a hoarding situation? I very recently got a little guy who was recently rescued from a house hoarding situation of 150+ dogs. I’d appreciate tips on how to teach him to play w/ toys, how to open up to affection, and how to learn to and be comfortable walking outside. He always hides/lays in his bed.
My advice He’s new. Leave him alone Let him come to you. If You really want him to play with you, just start by rolling a ball for him to chase. What breed is he? Some dogs have been breed to be needy clingy and emotionally dependent on owners. Others have been bred to be self sufficient. Best thing let him alone and let him come to you when he wants to. Most important get him a crate and put it in a very secluded place. Not in the. living room where most of the action is. We had a crazy rescue dog and she established herself in the playroom behind a partition. Only came out for food. And ignored the nice comfortable bed in the living room. If your dog is not a needy clingy be glad. It can be very annoying to have a dog who never leaves you alone. It will be fine. The dog will come to you. .
OMG! That's quite a history! Name of the game here is patience and expert force free training. This can take some time and compassion to work through, for sure!
@@TheKindCanine What is “expert force free training”? I have a rescue from a hoarder that had 40+ dogs and he has not let me hold him yet (outside of his bed -// he will let me pet him there) but cries when I leave for an errand.
@@scottguffey5809 You can search the Pet Professional Guild or the IAABC database on their websites. “Force free training” is a modern, science-based style of training that focuses on the welfare and wellbeing of dogs, avoiding training strategies which elicit fear, anxiety, pain or stress. In addition, these two organizations have ethics statements that trainers have to sign upon joining - and the trainers are often multi-certified or hold higher level degrees in animal behavior.
I feel very lucky to have adopted a puppy who had experience in foster homes. Aside from a 3 week stay at the vet, she split the last 4 months in two different foster homes. She's seemed to transition to life with me, my boyfriend, and our other dog very smoothly. It's day 6 today, and she is settling in and more of her personality is coming out, but she hasn't been nervous or a troublemaker at all!
i recently started working at a shelter and i can’t wait to be able to share your tips and info with adopters because it seems a lot of the time people get the wrong ideas about adoption & expect the dogs to be “happy” right away. the shelter, although we do our best, is a high-stress and scary environment. your advice is priceless and i seriously appreciate your videos! thank you for doing what you do ❤️
Thank you for the kind words. Share away! We’ve recently started doing more shelter work at our local shelter and it’s so important that people take the time to build a good foundation with their dog. Thank you for the work you do!
Great video, I wish I knew these things before we got our senior rescue 1 1/2 years ago. We grew to love him, and he us. Sadly, we lost him to illness last month. We are heartbroken, but we know we gave him a wonderful year and a half. And he gave us even more.
I found your video really helpful, thank you,I have just this week rescued an old Border Collie, she was beaten and tied up by the neck with a chain and left in an empty house, she has lost her teeth one side from chewing the chain, she was starved, thankfully she was found by someone who heard her crying, for all this she is so trusting of me,breaks my heart, this is a brilliant informative video to help myself and my new addition to the family.
My rescue dog comes tomorrow, I'm mostly concerned about the interaction with the cat. We did put up a baby gate so the cat can be upstairs to eat and relax there. The dog will stay in one room for the first week or weeks, she already is crate trained. I'm glad I found this video
Just got my teacup chihuahua 2 days ago, she is so sweet and loving. I was over a friends family members house and she had a lot of dogs and the Chihuahua was in the cage literally laying in her own feces that obviously has been in that cage for weeks due to how dried up it was, it was so sad I offered to pay her $50 to take the dog home and she let me, so now I want you to try to figure out how to properly care for her and give her all the love she needs
We just brought home our second rescue dog (first one we've had 10yrs) and listening to your tips made me realize I have been unusually fortunate with both. Both were fully house broken (no regression), mild temperament though still year-ish "puppies" and really just in need of crate training and basic obedience training, already perfectly friendly with people of all ages, other dogs, and cats (though we have found him to be a "velcro" dog). I can't imagine keeping a new pet separate from existing ones for more than a day much less weeks! We introduced the two on the second day, though they will be living in separate houses for a couple months till my wedding. I can tell my new one had an owner who did some introductory basic training and can't imagine why they dumped him after putting in the effort. After only 3 days I suspect he will be even easier to train than my older one was and am looking forward to going beyond basic Good Citizen work with him.
Thank you so much for this😊 I just got a 2 year old rescue dog from egypt yesterday. He has been on a long plane ride to Denmark and arrived 2 days ago. He got all his health checks, vaccinations and blood work when he arrived. He was teased as a pup by a group of kids and got removed from that home when he was an older pup. After that he lived in an apartment/balcony with 19 other dogs. So far he has been such a good boy and hasn’t had any accidents inside. He is nervous and has small periods during the day where he is shaking🥺 He is very curious tho and loves to follow my every move. He is a bit nervous when I pet him. But I see progress. I try to give him his space. He naps infront of me and gets spoiled rotten with treats toys and praise everytime he does good things. I really hope he will soon start to see that being here is not so bad after all☺️
Wow @Clara. So cool that you know a good part of the story and past! Love to hear that you are giving him space and moving at his pace. That is key! Good luck!
Love, love this video! You talked about all the things I normally tell people to do with their dogs, not just the rescues but, the ones from the breeder as well. They are coming into a new environment with new people is scary. Love, and patience does it. We have to become benevolent leaders for our pups and build a relationship based on trust and respect. You gained a subscriber madame.
Im planning on adopting a doggo in a few months, and until i can actually bring her home, I'm gonna be visiting her in the shelter as often as possible
I just rescued a 7-year-old mini Poodle who has only three legs and 5 teeth. (I've had him for 6 days) He wasn't treated very well in his previous life, and the vet convinced his owner to surrender him, and then she did all the medical work he needed and he went to his foster. I have him now, almost a week, and he is so lovey, I adore him and want to give him the very best. I have been using the clicker and in just a few days, he responds to his name, come and no. And sometimes off, but not always lol We go to bed around 10-11, he sleeps all night til around 7AM, we go out, all is well. The issue I am having is house training. He does not want to go outside, at all. It's cold and snowy and he hates it. He will just pee wherever he wants inside. Although I work from home, I don't always get to him in time. It was suggested to me that I keep his leash on all day so when he starts circling and sniffing, I can take him right outside. What do you think? I have pee pads now and really hate them, and he doesn't always go to them anyway. I also bought a training fence like you have in this video and thought I might make the inside of that the place where he uses the pee pads but I just don't want that. I don't want to use them at all. I'd love your thoughts!! Cheers from Nova Scotia!
Wow! Hello from Oregon! I'd check out Kiko Pup's channel, as Emily Larlham does a great job explaining these things! Here's a link to her video on house training: ruclips.net/video/gZ0XEr4DGfs/видео.html
Hello. We rescued a 10 year old chihuahua from a shelter. Most likely a puppy mill dog. ZERO training! Not housebroke at all. Winter in Chicago area ... not so fun for a chihuahua. I have had success taking out to potty and a reward of white meat chicken but she still has not quite connected the dots! I also bought indoor grass but this is also completely foreign to her. She is very sweet and not nervous at all with me but runs away form my husband. I am sure it will take time and consistency on my part. She only has about 4 teeth ... the puppy mill took zero care of her. She was only spayed after being surrendered. Came from Texas to IL to a no kill shelter. Anyhoo ... she is a sweetie. Thanks for all and any time. She is in a large create with her fuzzy bed and food/water dishes. Not much interest in her small stuffed bear. She LOVES to eat!!! I am thinking with only a few teeth bones would be a bad idea. I'll have to look into the toys for treats to entertain her. She has pretty good energy and is being treated fro heart worm ... in 30 days she gets her shots for the heart worm. Take care everyone.
Thanks for sharing Missy! Chester is a rescue from a puppy mill. They can be challenging to work with, but so rewarding when you start to see some progress. Best of luck to you!
One of the best videos about rescuing a dog that I've seen so far. There are so many vids here on youtube that don't really mention these important things. Great job on educating people!
As far as white noise goes, my parents dog loves Star Trek, but only TNG. I realized she really liked the Data centric episodes, which made perfect sense given Data's calm tone and lack of strong emotions. Now when she comes to visit Im sure to put TNG on, and she will actively sit in front of the TV, even if it means coming into a different room to watch. Shes a trekkie. Lol
Thanks for sharing your wonderful ways. Two days ago I went to a Sanctuary to adopt a Maltese. I came home with two of them. I could see how the 6 months old had bonded with Fawn, the 3 yrs old. I couldn’t separate them. Now I am trying to learn how get them to trust, as they both have never been in a home. They move away if I try to touch them. Your video has helped me a lot. I feel like I can handle this situation and make them feel loved and at home . Thanks again, as I am searching for more of your videos.
Thank you for this very helpful video. I just took in a rescue pit-bull mix who was completely emaciated. Not sure of the circumstances, but she was absolutely pitiful. Contrary to the stigma, this sweet girl is as kind and docile as you could hope for and is incredibly loving. We are following each of your tips and so far, so good. My other fur baby (also a rescue) has been an only-dog for about 5 years, so she's having a bit of an adjustment period. Hoping the two will eventually be the best of friends.
We just rescued at young boxer(estimated 9-12 months) The 1st week has been pretty good, but he didn’t do well with his third crating session. He broke out of the crate, countered surfed, but the funny thing was, he only took his and our snacks and piled them up on the couch and laid there and guarded them. Never even tried to eat any of it. We nicknamed him Duke: Protector of the Snacks. We will go back to basics on the crate, and work on the separation anxiety. I really enjoy your videos! Very informative for a first time rescuer!!!
Soooooooo helpful. I grew up in a house where if it popped on the floor. They would spank the dog which makes no sense to me. Never did and now that I’m an adult with my first dog… I want to do it right. Can’t wait to watch your other videos!!
Thank you so much for this video. I am getting a new dog next week. He isn't coming from a rescue or shelter, but it is being rehomed by his owner who feels it's important that he is with someone who is home all day. Even so, he is coming into a new home, suddenly made to live with strangers, still going through an adjustment. This video is just overall helpful and I appreciate it.
Very cool! And whether it's from a shelter or a rehome, this is really about acclimating a dog to their new environment! It's geared at those dogs that may have come from a potentially stressful shelter environment, but even if not, all these techniques will still work well!
Wonderful video. Thanks for all the specific, actionable tips! I'm fostering a rescue dog for the first time in a few weeks and I'm looking up all I can about de-stressing and potty training from the very arrival...
Same! Our boy is coming to our home next week so I’m trying to learn all I can since I’ve only had experience with retrievers I’ve had since puppy before.
@@TheKindCanine Thank you, I brought home my rescue dog, a lab/Australian shepherd mix, almost a month and a half ago and she has settled in well with the routine. Great work and thank you for making very insightful videos.
They’re actually both Australian shepherds! :) Nia just has prick ears - I thought she was a border collie mix until we had her DNA tested! She’s almost 100% aussie 👍🏻
Good information, Erica. Thank you. I adopted a 12-year-old mutt who had been with his previous owner for 9 years. I am learning about separation anxiety.
A common problem, especially for owners over the last year, I'm afraid! Malena DeMartini has an excellent course on the topic that you might benefit from! malenademartini.com/for-owners/separation-anxiety-in-dogs-mission-possible-online-course/
Cant thank you enough for this video,I have recently adopted a rescue dog, she wont be with me until August but this video has calmed me and help me to understand what I need to do and how to help not only the dog but me also 😊
Wonderful lessons. I'm really terrified about bringing home a new friend to our home with 4 cats and an old Great Pyrenees. We're going to the shelter this afternoon.
This was reassuring and helpful. I just adopted a German shepherd/ Siberian mix and he's such a blessing, but I've been feeling myself get extremely overwhelmed within the first two days. He's not potty trained, he jumps on me, noms and nips when excited. And he doesn't seem to understand no very well. I've been a cat mom for more than 5 years so being extremely hands on Is already unfamiliar. On top of all that I've been feeling adoption remorse and really questioning if I made the right choice which leads to spiraling. But, this video was a nice pat on the shoulder reminding me patience and persistence is a virtue ✨
@@Olivia_4444 I was struggling alot, I wasn't able to correct the jumping and the biting was increasing. I needed to be honest not only to myself but for the pup that his forever home wasn't with me.
@@iamethnique ah I understand. GSD is hard enough, add the husky mix in there AND first time adopter? Oof. Hope you are well and the dog has a new home 🤍
Good video! Thank you. What do you do when you leave the room? We have another sweet submissive dog., but our dog has been known to pee if she is nervous around another dog. . and making them sleep apart for two weeks is great. But I am not sure if we should leave her in a room with a cosy bed, water and such when we move about the house. I never used a crate before... Want my other dog to move about... but should we leave them along ... and if they cry. We have beds toys and yack cheeze bone
I thought this video and your tips were fantastic! My little one eyed Shih Tzu arrives in London from Saudi Arabi in a few weeks and although I had a beautiful shih tzu for 18 years this will be my first rescue dog. I’ve taken some really good tips and this totally made sense to me Thank you ! Michael and Captain! London UK
Those gates do come in all shapes and sizes, but sometimes we use bungee cords to attach it to this that or the other for more stability. We use baby gates as well for those rooms we really want gated off!
I’m adopting a 8 month old Pom from Ukraine who is fortunately in an amazing household where he is taken care of however the owner is immigrating due to the situation going on and therefore can not take care of the pom. I really hope he can feel safe as he will be truly loved :)
This video is a Godsend because I had/have no idea what I'm doing and I myself grew up in bad situations so I too have trauma so I'd assume he acts certain ways cus he against me or whatever and it's so helpful for me to understand him better cus sometimes I get in my emotions and take it out on him or if he does one thing wrong I get upset when I shouldn't. I wanna be better for him 💜 I wasn't fortunate enough to grow up with dogs but this is so helpful he is doing great and he's just such a blessing I couldn't imagine my life without him he's my only family I have to remember that he doesn't think like I think.
Glad this helps Amy. I've often found that dogs can be great teachers for our own personal growth if we're willing to listen to what they have to say to us! Good luck out there!
Very well done. Just got a puppy mill dog… she holds her urine 24 hours at a time. It’s as though she’s scared to potty in the presence of people. When inside, she tries to sneak away to potty in a room AWAY from us. Any advice?
Thank you very much for this, I am going to meet a dog tomorrow after 9 years of my family having its last dog but it will be the first time that it will be "my" dog sort of speak.. Hope everything goes well!
I just rescued a dog yesterday evening a tiny yorkie mix breed she is currently 2 months and 3lbs , the shelter did spay her yesterday morning she came home on liquid pain meds . She barely wanted to eat, drink , very shakey , if we walk near her she walks away but if i walk away from her she will follow me or she in the play pen she will whin if she don’t see me standing right by the play pen . She does have a metal crate with the door always open in her play pen . I take her out in the back yard she haven’t learned how to walk on a leash with a harness yet . The first night she laid in my lap to sleep for 4-6 hours
I just adopted a assie that was born in a pound his mother and sister were adopted out but he was not he is a year and half years old I adoped him but he is really scared and weighs 15 pounds know no commands scared to eat with anyone around runs and hide when you approach him what advice can you give me😢
I just got my rescue dog three days ago and based on your comment I put his food bowl inside his crate today for the first time and he proceeded to knock it over and scatter everything all around. I did that because I have another dog in the house and thought he would feel less anxious about eating from his own bowl. Maybe since he’s never been in a real home before, only at a rescue facility, he behaved that way. Since putting it in his crate created a mess should I continue to try to do that or just leave his bowl outside and feed the dogs separately? But I find your tips really helpful. I definitely need to put him on a schedule for his eating that way I can get his housebreaking under control (The other dog I have eats on demand so he doesn’t understand that sort of structure but she’ll adjust). I haven’t had a puppy in years and even though this dog is two years old this is really starting over for me! I’m just looking forward to seeing how his personality develops over the next few weeks.
Hi @Denise! Good call on separating the feeding for now. It can take 3 mos or longer for your new dog to feel comfortable in their new home! There's nothing wrong per se with them knocking their food over, as long as their eating a nutritionally healthy amount! In fact, we don't typically feed our dogs in bowls. We're usually a lot of the puzzle toys and snuffle mats found in this video! ruclips.net/video/G8kEKjf-WsM/видео.html Best of luck out there!
Thanks for all this valuable information as our new rescue is being spayed today and tomorrow we get to bring her home. I just hope the vet gives us something for pain for a couple of days because our last fur baby was neutered, and he gave us nothing for our boy for pain.
You can always ask! I’ve never met a vet that isn’t willing to prescribe something for mild sedation or pain after a procedure like that. Especially a spay, since it is much more intrusive and has a longer recovery than a neuter. ❤️
How are rescue dogs for first time owners? I am looking for a hiking friend and I know dogs over 1y can walk longer. I was thinking of getting an 8 week puppy or 1-2y rescue dog. I am specifically looking at golden retrievers or medium-big dogs
It all depends on what you’re looking for! Getting a puppy from a rescue organization does not necessarily mean you’re getting a blank slate - and puppyhood comes with its own unique sets of challenges! 😅 I would encourage you to think about what kinds of things you’d like to do with your dog, what you’re physically able to handle, and what kind of environment they will be in most of the time. Depending on your own activity level and your various life circumstances, you might be considering specific breeds/mixes or ages accordingly. 👍🏻 Research is key!
@@TheKindCanine I want to hike with a golden retriever. So 1-2h per day. I am willing to try other breeds. I just thought rescue dogs might be better because they are not pups anymore. I focus on training them and exercising them and not potty train as much. I might visit a rescue dog place and see what they think. What dogs could be good for hiking and if they have any good dogs for beginners. I don’t have any problems walking 50km per week or more. Golden just looks extra cute. I might save Newfoundland puppies for when I own a house and golden for bigger apartment.
Does all of this apply the same to a puppy or very young dog? I’m adopting a 3 month old. We have cats and an open floor plan. She will be crated in my room. Which is separate from the house. But I don’t want to keep her in my room or kennel all the time
Crating or putting a dog in a pen periodically throughout the day (especially when unsupervised) as a management strategy to prevent unwanted behaviors and habits is a proactive method that is usually temporary while the dog is acclimating to a new home. When you use strategies like this, they are not intended to be forever. As your dog is able to make more preferable choices (that you have reinforced under supervised time), you can slowly wean off these management strategies and give the dog more access. If you start off with open access to everything because that’s how you want it to be forever, your dog will likely create some undesirable habits that you will then have to address later. Being proactive is ALWAYS better than being reactive! 😉
3-3-3! 3 days to destress (get all that cortisol out), 3 weeks to start to learn your routines, and 3 months to start seeing the real dog! All the best to you on this new journey!
Hi im about to be a new dog owner, im about to foster a golden retreaver, hes 2 years old (human years) hes obviously moving from one house hold to a new one, hes not from a shelter but the owners want to get rid of him sadly, just scared he'll find it hard to settle in, just looking for some more insight, only because hes not from a shelter spasifically
Do you recently get a rescue dog? Tell me about them!
Great tips - thanks! Planning to adopt soon, not my first time but it's good to review because each dog is different.
How can I also get him to do more walking? He got used to being held by his fosters. I don't want to give in and carry him every where
I adopted a 3 year old dog who had 3 previous owners plus the kennel stays in between.
I want to ask what I should look for in a trainer for my pup. I’m new entirely but I do need help
God bless you. Wish there more more folks like you in this world.

So cute!
Super cool Donna!
GREAT CONTENT!! I just rescued a Puppy and this is new to me I had my Precious Furbaby for 16 years from 2 weeks old and put him to rest on August 18 2022 out of LOVE!! And this Video HELPED me Tremendously🙏❤
I liked the idea of having mini treat jars around the house for when we see good behavior to reward. Great tip!!
It’s always helpful to make rewarding behaviors more accessible! If you set up your environment with treat jars, you’re more likely to reward behaviors more frequently throughout the day rather than letting them go unnoticed! :)
@@TheKindCanine And also add in a cookie jar beside it, so you can reward yourself for doing the proper dog training! (just dont get them mixed)
The dog will come to you. .
!!! Oh my goodness 150+! I'm amazed it could ever get to that stage unnoticed. I hope your guy is doing great and more settled and happy now xx
That is so wonderful! ❤️
i recently started working at a shelter and i can’t wait to be able to share your tips and info with adopters because it seems a lot of the time people get the wrong ideas about adoption & expect the dogs to be “happy” right away. the shelter, although we do our best, is a high-stress and scary environment. your advice is priceless and i seriously appreciate your videos! thank you for doing what you do ❤️
Thank you for the kind words.
So sorry to hear about your loss, Steve. I'm glad that you had the time you did with him!
OMG! What a story! Thank you for taking care of your pup!
My rescue dog comes tomorrow, I'm mostly concerned about the interaction with the cat. We did put up a baby gate so the cat can be upstairs to eat and relax there. The dog will stay in one room for the first week or weeks, she already is crate trained. I'm glad I found this video
How did it turn out?
He is nervous and has small periods during the day where he is shaking🥺
He is very curious tho and loves to follow my every move.
So glad it was helpful for you! ❤️ Happy to have you here! 😊

Wow, thank you @Zumble! Glad you think so!
My rescue puppy will be here in 5 days and your video helped a Lot. Thank you 🥰
Been researching all night and this is the most helpful video I’ve seen about adopting rescue dogs. Definitely subscribing. Keep up the good work!
Thank you Gabby! Glad you found some good takeaways!
Lol
I love this SO much. 😂❤️
That's funny! I think we could all use more "Data" in our lives to calm us.
A couple moving across country is rehoming their Pembroke Corgi to us tomorrow and this video is super helpful, thank you!
You’re very welcome! ❤️
got a 100 + lb great pyrenees coming home today.. Hopefully it all goes smoothly
Love it Heidi!
Tip #2 is the KEY to a happy and well behaved dog!!!
Good informative video‼️👍🏽
Thank you!
This is the exact video I've been looking for! I watched so many videos that didn't help at all. THANK YOU!!

Great tips I’m adopting this week and I’m anxious to provide a happy home
Currently taking in a foster dog and this video has given me so much information! Thank you for the content 💕
Yay yay yay! So glad you enjoyed it!
This video was very helpful in preparing for taking home my rescue dog.
Thank you! Dont hesitate to reach out to a force free trainer in your area if you need some support!
Soooooooo helpful. I grew up in a house where if it popped on the floor. They would spank the dog which makes no sense to me. Never did and now that I’m an adult with my first dog… I want to do it right. Can’t wait to watch your other videos!!
I love this @Brandon! You're spot on! It's your relationship with you dog and you get to do it your way. Hoping for the best for you both!
I knew about clicking what you like at home, but the idea of S.M.A.R.T. x 50 was new for me. Thank you, that's a good tip.
You're welcome! We're always looking for reward desired behavior whenever and wherever we can get it!
Hello Lisa how are you doing today
Thank you so much for this video. I am getting a new dog next week. He isn't coming from a rescue or shelter, but it is being rehomed by his owner who feels it's important that he is with someone who is home all day. Even so, he is coming into a new home, suddenly made to live with strangers, still going through an adjustment. This video is just overall helpful and I appreciate it.
Very cool! And whether it's from a shelter or a rehome, this is really about acclimating a dog to their new environment! It's geared at those dogs that may have come from a potentially stressful shelter environment, but even if not, all these techniques will still work well!
Hello Kim how are you doing today
Thank you! My 3 year old jack chi Coco will be home in 2 days 🥰
Wonderful video. Thanks for all the specific, actionable tips! I'm fostering a rescue dog for the first time in a few weeks and I'm looking up all I can about de-stressing and potty training from the very arrival...
Great work S L! Taking the time to get some the pre-work can be a life saver! Best of luck with your new pup!
Same! Our boy is coming to our home next week so I’m trying to learn all I can since I’ve only had experience with retrievers I’ve had since puppy before.
We rescued a 10 week old lab retriever pup - this is helpful!! Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Thank you for posting this video. I am preparing to adopt my first rescue dog.
Best of luck! Let me know how it goes!
@@TheKindCanine Thank you, I brought home my rescue dog, a lab/Australian shepherd mix, almost a month and a half ago and she has settled in well with the routine. Great work and thank you for making very insightful videos.
Oh your dogs are so cute is one of Border Collie and one in Australian Shepherd with a tail
They’re actually both Australian shepherds! :) Nia just has prick ears - I thought she was a border collie mix until we had her DNA tested! She’s almost 100% aussie 👍🏻

Good luck!! Let me know how it goes!
Good information, Erica. Thank you. I adopted a 12-year-old mutt who had been with his previous owner for 9 years. I am learning about separation anxiety.

VERY well done! Comprehensive, intelligent yet friendly and well spoken. Subscribed!
Thanks Carolyn! Good to have you here!

Thank you for this video!
We have am application in for a shelter and I wanted to make sure we are prepared for when we are approved.
That's awesome Trish. Good luck out there!
I really love your channel and your delivery of the information.
Ah gee thanks 😊
Curious to know how you and your new baby are doing ❤

That little folding gate would not stop Indie, my new adopted husky.
Looking to adopt my first dog soon. This video was immensely helpful. Thank you for posting it
Glad it was helpful!
I wanna be better for him 💜 I wasn't fortunate enough to grow up with dogs but this is so helpful he is doing great and he's just such a blessing I couldn't imagine my life without him he's my only family
I have to remember that he doesn't think like I think.
Any advice?

This video was amazing! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
Thank you for adopting a beautiful one and thanks for your kindness and caring and useful tips🏡
You bet Mandana! Thank you for the kind words! Glad the video was helpful to you.
We're usually a lot of the puzzle toys and snuffle mats found in this video! ruclips.net/video/G8kEKjf-WsM/видео.html
Best of luck out there!

Thank you thank you!
Really good! Thanks!
Nice video
Interesting insights. Very practical
Thanks for all this valuable information as our new rescue is being spayed today
and tomorrow we get to bring her home. I just hope the vet gives us something
for pain for a couple of days because our last fur baby was neutered, and he gave
us nothing for our boy for pain.
@@TheKindCanine
I want to hike with a golden retriever.
Thank you, you just helped out with planning SOOO much
Yay! So glad it helped @Darkwolf!
so sweet
In my first 12 hours of adopting my Catahoula.🥰she’s so sweet but i think she’s definitely still nervous and adjusting.

Best of luck! Take it slow and don’t push too fast. You’ll do great!
