    Most print journals have a strict requirement of resolution of figures to be at least 300dpi.

    I tried this today with GIMP 2.10.12 version. All steps were the same as in this video. However, when I open Paint program and checked properties there was only 96 dpi and not 300 or more. In addition, I tried to compare different dpi images (300, 400, 500, 720 and original 96) and I was not able to see any difference in treir quality. Any explanations? Thank you in advance.

    • @DrBarai
      @DrBarai  5 лет назад

      Follow the steps again in GIMP exactly as I have mentioned. Do not save the file. Instead, export the file to a designated location. Now, right click on the file. Select details option. It will show dpi 300 or 400 or what ever you chose earlier. If you open it through paint, it will not give you actual dpi. I just checked now and it works perfectly well!!

    • @dragoncomosaics9282
      @dragoncomosaics9282 5 лет назад

      @@DrBarai Yes, problem with paint not showing true dpi. GIMP show real dpi. However, just changing dpi do not solve picture quality. Anyway, thanks.

    • @DrBarai
      @DrBarai  3 года назад +2

      @@sakshis1155 Please elaborate it a little more. DPI 300 X300 is for printing quality only. You may not see any differences in the figure itself, but when the journal prints it on paper, it makes a huge difference. Hope this helps!

    I agree with
    Dragon & Co Mosaics. Changing the numbers in the software is not going to change the original resolution. For higher resolution, begin at the source image and export as a tiff file at a desired resolution.

    • @DrBarai
      @DrBarai  3 года назад +1

      dot per inch (dpi) means how the image resolution will be if printed on paper. In the screen of computer, they may look the same. But actually, they are different once printed on paper. That is why most printed journals ask for a dpi >300. Hope that helps
