Geoff's gone all giddy over his extra 2 horses. The old boy racer is now looking for a tunnel to take it for a blast and surprise everyone that is not a Vee Dub or a Collapsed Beemer making the racket!
The flat spot will probably be heat soak where the engine bay was getting hot from idling and when u accelerate the open filter in the bay is sucking hot air .. make yourself some duct pipes from a grill to the filter so it has a direct cold air feed. Colder the air the bigger the bang .. also TESCO MOMENTUM HAS THE BEST OCTANE LEVELS WITH MINIMUM PRE IGNITION KNOCK .. best proven pump fuel for performance .. iridium plugs will help and get a distributer rotor arm without the spring that cuts rpm .. the springless rotor arm will allow more rpm for around a fiver ..get some mass airflow cleaner and clean the mass airflow sensor ..great channel been watching for around 6 months .. my daily go to vids 👍🏻👌
@@thePeterpumpkin68 I use momentum in my stage 2 tuned cooper makes a noticeable difference and is needed for the remap .. I expect a decent map on Geoffs fiesta would bring it to around 100hp
Would love to see what a good tuneup does fuel injector cleaners change your fuel filters, oil change, transmission, and spark plugs see how much you gain just for maintenance
Remember a car coming in to friends garage not running right after changing air box for k&n filter, when we asked where was the airbox etc was, he said he had thrown it all away, along with the maf sensor.
This takes me back. We used to put K&N's on nearly everything I think. Mostly for the intake noise!! I'm not surprised by the flat spot. I remember way back this frequently happened when you just fitted the induction kit and no other mods. I think (and it's a faint guess here) its something to do with greater volume of air but initially slower velocity when you put your foot down so there is a touch of hesitancy.. Something like that. I have to say the 1.25 16v engine is little peach.. Wasn't it developed by Yamaha?
Yes a co development between ford & Yamaha . If you listen carefully the fiesta sound a bit like a motorbike scream momentarily, when it's revving at the top end....
Love seeing you relive your youth, this is basically what I wanted back in 2010, a Zetec Fiesta and a big air filter 😂 gave up as all the ones I looked at were rusty, and I thought arch rust meant an MOT fail... Amazing what you know at 18 😂 even though I've got much spicier cars now, I'd still have one in a heartbeat!
I've got a set of K&Ns for my 1977 Kwak Z650, ready for when the big strip and rebuild gets done. K&Ns plus a Harris pipe...one of the best sounds, ever!
Get a retest or/and get the dyno recalibrated because the K&N I had on my mk3 Escort definitely doubled its power. Just like the GKN spark plugs and the cherry bomb 😂
Flat spot is probably because its just been installed and the ECU can't compensate enough you may have to get it mapped and slightly bigger fuel injectors. I think a sports cat and cat back stainless system with no mid silencer, just back box to be next, then get it mapped and running all nice.
If you find it nippy, wait ti'll you discover that in Brazil it had a 95HP 1.6L Zetec RoCam engine! The 1.0L had 65hp's. The Intakes are the best of all worlds, you get extra performance, you get extra noise (of the good kind) and you spend little! That Fiesta looks gorgeous!
I've just fitted one of those to my EV, wow! What a huge difference it made.... another 250 BHP! Seriously though, fitted a DNA air filter and inlet and removed the cat and collector box on my Royal Enfield Meteor. Apart from a noiser intake and a fantastic exhaust note, I didn't really notice any improvement in performance. Maybe, because of the EFI, it may be running lean at higher RPM's....
Use good old redex and premium fuel up to the next test, and some Wynns oil supercharge to protect the old engine. Used both for years in many different cars never had any problems. Also quality multi electrode spark plugs. Good luck. 👍

about 2% to 3% is actually a lot! Makes me curious how it turns out when people are putting such a filter at such a spot it only sucks in hot air, instead of the rather good location in the fiesta. Regaining power on old engine, check spark-plugs and fuel-injectors first?
I used to get more performance from my C230 KOMPRESSOR just by going out in the winter in negative temperatures compared to summer. Colder air is more dense.
My old polo’s exhaust had a small hole in it and was on the way out and was only £80 for a whole manifold to tail pipe so I was going to replace it before the MOT so decided to see how much I could rot it out by spraying water up the tail pipe. Rotted out the whole of the back exhaust box. Boy did it sound good to my 20 year old ears. Louder than my brothers X Flow Caterham, but had to change it in the end as I was sure I was going to get pulled by the rozzers. Fun times.
Had K&N sitting on Weber carb on my Mk3 Escort some 30yr ago. Seemed like great performance. Stuck a dodgy custom exhaust on it later which helped too. Great fun.
I’ve seen several dyno tests on you tube recently involving older cars and all made stock power. People say cars lose power with age but these tests show that often they don’t if they been serviced regularly and are running well.
Lots of SPACE round the bits and a great place for the battery. Had a look round a friends Hybrid Lexus and there was a small lunchbox of room left in the engine bay. Plus a tray to catch all the 10mm sockets etc. Wow it was clean. Looking great for a £600 car. David and Lily.
75 to 77 bhp is a whopping 2.67% increase the figure K&N put in their blurb (not) on encouraging that dude to buy the filter. ( p.s I used to re-jet cars back in the day to gain extra bhp there was always a noticeable difference). Used a carburettor shop in Hillingdon Middlesex on the Uxbridge Road.

Ebay Chinese intercooler & turbo with bigger injectors, the turbo would allow you to have it in a higher gear more if sized right so the spool time is quick! It would get better mileage as crazy as it sounds!
That cone requires heat shielding or you can lose them horses when it’s hot so I’d just use a panel filter. The panel filters boost is not going to be noticeable either & will be a bit quieter but the main reason I fitted filters to all my cars is there washable so they pay for themselves if you own the car 3-4 years. I now have a focus st with stage 1 so it’s about 275 hp 420 torque & stock filter is paper cone type so I swapped to green cone filter & it sounds awesome & probably 5 - 7hp gain on that because it’s turbo & higher powered cars will benefit more from filters…again the real win is noise response & washability but on that power level 5-7 hp is not noticed.
You can always get a bit more suck squeeze bang and a blow with a big enough tube, also bigger lobes on your shaft which opens the valves on the head for more air and liquid to get in for an even bigger bang, at least that's what I was told, I had a very basic education, I read it in a Haynes manual.
Speaks volumes when the dyno operator wants to buy your econobox, but here in America if your car made those numbers you'd do your best to keep it under your hat lol. The 3.1 v6 in my Buick Century supposedly makes 195hp and the 4.3 Vortech v6 in my Safari makes 220, both are over 9.1 compression so you can really feel when you use premium gas.
Geoff mate, here you go get an ECU remap lol, sounds like a six cylinder 68 Mustang; but much better than our 1995 N Reg Golf 1.6 75hp that we had in 2007!! Would love to bring our XC60 T6 Turbo to see what it's got under the hood, but might cost a fortune from Switzerland!! Best Regards from Switzerland
If you're sucking more air in, you need to throw more fuel in and more exhaust out to make any significant gain. Bigger injectors and straight through pipes 😁?
It's got 75 standard at the flywheel If you compare the power at the wheels it will give you a better set of real world figures It would be nice to see what sort of Dyno it is and what ask the numbers are at the bottom 👍
I had a k@n on my corsa b back in the day it would bog down with all the heat 🤣 The increase in mpg isn’t really worth the noise, panel filter would be better.
I got a k&n air filter for my van. No real difference in horsepower or fuel consumption. Where it did make a difference was in improving the rev response of the engine.
Does what it says on the tin. Manufacturers have other requirements to worry about like water ingestion, dusty climates and people who never change the filter so its always a compromise. As another test on the same day, I would have liked to have seen no filter at all, that way you can see what reduction any induction restriction has.
Sadly those gains would probably be lost again on hot days once she’s up to full temp. It’d be interesting to see what she makes with a K&N element in the factory air box👍🏻
It can’t be any more than the fiesta without any filter. Perhaps you should run it without any filter and then with the K&N and compère it to the standard setup.
Its not all about the miles per hour Geoff, its the smiles per hour that matter!
Brought back some memories this did 😂

Not sure if the Fiesta still had a rotor arm and distributor when this one was made, certainly 2005 ones had moved to twin coils and no distributor.
6:45 the engine roar gave me warm fuzzies. One of my favourite things about driving on fast roads, opening the throttle the whole way.

That's utterly retarded. All you are doing is sucking less air from the correct entry point and replacing that with hot air from the engine bay.

If you're sucking more air in, you need to throw more fuel in and more exhaust out to make any significant gain. Bigger injectors and straight through pipes 😁?
Spend your cash on getting the aircon fixed 🥵 Great video as always Geoff.
Is it rusty like most other Fiestas of this age?It does look clean.1.25 is a great Yamaha designed engine.
I know. It basically lasted 20 years. My mum's 08 did not miss a beat for it's 15yrs with her. Bit thirsty but always a willing companion!
An air filter upgrade won't do much,
Unless you change the exhaust manifold,
and tweek the ecu. Cats may need to be
Upgraded as well.
It's got 75 standard at the flywheel
If you compare the power at the wheels it will give you a better set of real world figures
It would be nice to see what sort of Dyno it is and what ask the numbers are at the bottom 👍
I had a k@n on my corsa b back in the day it would bog down with all the heat 🤣
The increase in mpg isn’t really worth the noise, panel filter would be better.
A chip and bigger injectors and exhaust work well on these
I got a k&n air filter for my van. No real difference in horsepower or fuel consumption. Where it did make a difference was in improving the rev response of the engine.
How many runs do you get for your £50? I ask as I'd like to do what you have done today on my 96 850 T5 manual
Put some new plugs in,decat & ram some air through to the new performance filter oh & dont forget the fluffy dice😂❤it
Does what it says on the tin. Manufacturers have other requirements to worry about like water ingestion, dusty climates and people who never change the filter so its always a compromise. As another test on the same day, I would have liked to have seen no filter at all, that way you can see what reduction any induction restriction has.
Without a filter very little difference than with the K&N.. they're close to a no filter as possible.
Don’t forget to clean, dry and re-oil the K&N filter every year!
All the best!
Really recommend this guy .
A remap and improved induction should be done at the same time ideally.
Brings back memories 😊
Sadly those gains would probably be lost again on hot days once she’s up to full temp.
It’d be interesting to see what she makes with a K&N element in the factory air box👍🏻
I expect you have informed your ins co about this mod!
Sounds great. Wish id done that to my mum's when she had it!
Good on you Mate.
Needs some weight saving too, don't pay the heavy "vehicle tax" that slows the car down 😆😆
It can’t be any more than the fiesta without any filter.
Perhaps you should run it without any filter and then with the K&N and compère it to the standard setup.
Turbo next? 😉😉
DID YOU TUNE IT OR JUST GAIN 2HP WITH CAI?
