Evan, thank you for all the good information you're sharing through this channel. It's been about a month since I started on Upwork, and I recently got my first "5-star" 5-star review after giving the client your tips on things to include.
On asking for referrals, I'm curious how best to onboard referred clients when they're not yet on Upwork (or even if they already are). I've read a bit about Direct Contracts and Bring Your Own Client and am wondering about the pros and cons of those and other, off-Upwork alternatives.

Hi Evan, thank you so much for these amazing videos.
I have a question about the last part where you mentioned to never end contracts and to have the client do it instead. Why is that exactly? I’m asking because recently I had to end a milestone contract on Upwork because the project was completed but the client just left Upwork after everything was delivered. The project was clearly finished. Then I waited months for a response after everything was accepted, but nothing happened so finally I just closed the contract. Any advice?
Thank you for always keeping it real and not gatekeeping incredible information. Best freelance advice channel 🙏🏽

Hi Evan, I enjoyed the video.
My only question is if someone is doing a short project or maybe a few short projects to get reviews so that they can get more long term projects, would sending this message after a short project be a bit overkill or lengthy?
I would still definitely want a good review but would a shorter message make more sense for a small project that may even only take a few minutes?

Hi Evan. Wouldn't that be a violation of the Terms of Service? On the Upwork forum, it is mentioned that a gentle reminder for honest feedback is allowed. But asking for good feedback is a violation of Upwork ToS.

    • @FreelanceMVP
      @FreelanceMVP  2 года назад +4

Thanks Wladimir. I've double-checked the Upwork Terms of Service, and I haven't found what you're referring to. And more fundamentally...
      1. Why WOULDN'T you ask for great feedback, when you've done a great job?
      2. And if the client doesn't 100% agree that it's a great job, and you demonstrate the willingness to go above and beyond for them such that they would happily give you a great rating, how would that be wrong? (because in an alternative scenario, should the ToS be designed in a way that means you should be delivering not-so-great work because you're disincentivized to make it better???)
I wouldn't suggest anyone ask for good feedback for "no good reason" - I do know for a fact that PAYING for a good review IS a violation of the ToS. But "doing great work, and ensuring that client is happy and had a great experience" (and will be inclined to use Upwork again because they had a great experience)... I'm pretty sure that's one of Upwork's fundamental goals.
I think maybe the person you're referencing on the Community forum might have misinterpreted something. Take it with a grain of salt (AND MY RESPONSE ABOVE^ TOO!) and go straight to the Terms of Service, read through them in full, and then you can decide for yourself. And always remember...
"Just because someone said it on a forum / in a RUclips video / in a RUclips comment... DOESN'T MEAN IT'S TRUE!" 🤣

    I have a question:
I am struggling to increase my efficiency. I want to reach a certain level of income per month and I was doing that very well for the last few months.
But, now, it seems like there’s a roadblock and I just can’t seem to increase my revenue - not because I don’t have opportunities; but only because I just can’t do more by myself.
It’s like where you max out your productivity and there’s no more room to work on more projects in the same amount of time.
So, my question to you is: How can I equip myself to get more work done in the same amount if time and scale? Should I work on building an agency or use tools to increase my efficiency? I am very confused.
I would love to see a response from you on this.

      Hey @Anas, some thoughts:
Improve your quality. Look at what the highest earning freelancers in your niche are charging for the kind of projects you do. Deliver work that is FAR better than theirs.
Start charging more. Raise your rates after every project (just make sure you watched the video on getting 5 stars every time!)
Look at how you can break your process down into specific steps, and maximize efficiency (yes, use tools wherever possible)
Start with that, and make sure you stick with us! If you're not subscribed already... well you know what to do🤣

    • @FreelanceMVP

@Muneeb Ahmed good question. It would be extremely surprising to me if that were the case (because then people would just be aiming for “any level feedback since they can’t ask for 5 stars?”)… so I checked the Terms of Use again. I’m not an attorney but I don’t see anything in there that remotely resembles “you can’t ask for 5 stars”! 😂😂😂 So my thinking is, until they tell me that I cannot, I am going to ask EVERY SINGLE CLIENT I have, to consider the work I’ve done and let me know if there is anything I can do to get them to feeling that 5-star, 10/10 level! 🚀
PS - What you definitely CANNOT do is have someone create fake jobs just to do feedback building. That is DEFINITELY against Upwork’s rules - it says so in the Terms of Use.

What if my client didn't end the contract? But my work has already paid.

This is just me personally, but I would not chase people for a review. The ones who you WANT to give you a review, will do so willingly and quickly.

Guys, be cautious. Requesting a 5-star rating from a client might be interpreted as feedback manipulation. It may result in your ban from Upwork.

It’s not, read the terms of service. You cannot PAY for a review - but you can always ask the client politely to be sure to leave you a review when your contract is coming to a close.

Don't know how I bumped onto this. All in all GREAT video ❤️. I also have been watching those rather similar from mStarTutorials and kinda wonder how you guys make these vids. MSTAR TUTORIALS also had amazing information about similiar things on his vids.

Hey Evan, I have 2 five star reviews on Upwork (1 with feedback, 1 with no feedback) and I have 3 ongoing projects. but the rates are so low. I am working on 4$ per hour. The client says he is on a budget and now I am working for 4$ per hour for the sake of his feedback. But, he kept giving me more work and when I ask him to increase rates or increase the weekly hour limit, he kept telling me he is on a budget. I already started the contracts and with this thing goin on, I am going to work for a longg time for just 4$ per hour. What should I do?
And there's this client. she asked me to get something for 200 USD but the thing is, it is worth over 3kUSD and I agreed to work on that and the contract is created (it is a fixed price contract) and I've been hustling for over 3 motnths for 200$ payment! I want to end the contract but I am afraid she will give me 1 star review! If I ask a client to end the contract without paying me anything, will it affect me profile?
how do I make the high profile clients to hire me instead of top rated plus clients? (I have a good portfolio and I have a good profile in general.)
Because by default, doesn't it make sense for a client to hire a hire a top rated freelancer than a freelancer with 2 reviews? I need perspective on this.
And also, what do you think of creating an enterprise on Upwork? is it better than working solo as a freelancer? will you get more jobs?
