I think the simple way to look at where the story will go is ask yourself this question; as a father, what do you do when your kids go off to college and you start having a midlife crisis? A crisis of meaning etc. but in mythic termsX
@@jarrettcranston2431 but the real question is was that enough? Just like the end of God of war 3 when he hugs the souls of his wife and daughter, was that enough?
The comic 'Fallen God' shows Kartos post GOW3 visits Egypt. If they want a classic GOW experience in Egypt, they could visit that time, although it could feel like retreading old ground.
that's weird because in Ragnarök they hinted they was going to Shinto mythology with Tyr doing poses and those poses would led to were they was going next in the games and those poses are from Asia
I think the story should be a Kratos on the search for Atreaus. He gets an urgent message asking for his help in a mythological realm he’s never visited. This will thrust Kratos in a sinister plot of betrayal amongst the gods of those lands and a set up for a sequel in which we’ll see the Norse lands at war with another land and their gods.
I think it would be more to do with his love for Atreus that would bring him out of peace like he gets hurt or they use him a bargain chip for them to gain power 😊
God of War 3 felt like a solid ending to the original story, though they of course left the door open at the very end for more. As I recall, they were hesitant to "reboot" it with the 2018 game, but that duality of games turned out very solid. Again, however, it left off with a least a vague sense of finality, that Kratos found a level of peace that he could practice what he preached, to be better and not just a monster, that he was worthy of worship and not just fear. He's made peace with the murder of his first family, started a new one, raised a son he could be proud of and sort of reinvested himself. But where do they go from there? What story is there left to tell? He's no longer a man on a warpath; even with the Norse games he just wanted to live a peaceful life. The first one his only real goal was to spread his wife's ashes from the tallest peak in the realms and a lot of nonsense complicated that. In the second he didn't want beef with Odin until Odin made it personal with Atreus. As a proud father and a god of war whose life means more than violence now, what would drive him to come into conflict with the Egyptian pantheon? If they can answer that question, they might be good games, otherwise it may be doomed to flop. The story has matured in such a way that I don't think they can really pull off the edgelord power fantasy that the original game (and maybe to a lesser degree the two mainline sequels) could anymore. As for the whole crossing realms thing, that was even lightly addressed in the 2018 game; I forget the exact wording, but when Kratos goes to Freya when Atreus falls ill, she asks him something to the effect of "are you familiar with the underworld?" and Kratos replies "Not of this realm". There's the implication that none of the gods truly have global dominion, that the gods only have full power over the lands of their worshipers but not much beyond that, to the point that what realms you can access are, well, region locked.
Well I think if it plays this way . Yes Kratos wants peace but say if Atreus his son gets kidnapped his father instincts n rage come in. Which we seen many times how mad he gets in the last two games if someone messed with Atreus ..which leads him to be the old Kratos with anger n rage to get his son back .. but who knows .. will have to wait and see what happens when the game comes out in 3-4 years ha
I kind of hope they re work the mystery horn blowing. Introduce some time inconsistency and have it happen in a later game so we can return to Tyrs temple for a one off moment, it'd be cooler than the answer to such a big mystery being "baldur I guess"
I think if Atreus got kidnapped by the Gods of Egypt or somehow mixed up with them it’d be a good enough reason for Kratos to end his life of peace again
A few things to chip in with... the obvious reason Kratos heads to Egypt is that he's gotten word that Atreus has run into trouble there. Atreus is searching for giants, and there are giants in Egyptian mythology. Makes sense to send him there. That said, I'm finding it hard to get excited about an Egypt-set GoW. Keeping an open mind but there's some pitfalls to this setting for sure.
I wouldnt mind Egyptian tbh but i think its a little too on the nose and sometimes things that we expect or think are the greatest route to go are better off left - similar to Assians creed Japan. Seemed like it was a match made in heaven that you couldnt get wrong but here we are! I actually would love them to go down a route that valhalla kind of took a peak into - Aztec/mayan mythology! In Valhalla Tyr has a Aztec sort of weapon and I think that would be an incredible route to go! Think how amazing the landscapes of south america would be, the colours, the jungle, moutains, pyramids, the weapons!!! the designs of the gods in eagle costumes!! The boss battles would even have some unique gameplay features like fighting Ometecuhtli - “The Two Lord” having to fight two gods who are one in duality that switch between a man and woman, Mictlantecuhtli - “The Lord of the Land of the Dead” literally looks like hes perfect for a god of war game boss!
I've always thought that it was missed opportunity to keep Kratos as the main character when they shifted to Norse. I feel like there are more opportunities for original main characters from the settings.
I’m curious to see if the Egyptian GoW games will be a prequel before the Norse games and before Atreus or even Faye. In the GoW novel Kratos does meet Thoth.
I fell in love with GoW in 2006 after playing the first game from start to finish without sleeping, yes items were thrown all over my apartment out of rage thanks to the puzzles being maddening, and that cursed hades area with the rotating spike towers of misery. I still love the franchise 20 years later, I did think Ragnarok was a bit much, a bit long with too much partially open world, the atreus game play was terribly boring. If they could refine the length down and not make it so massive of a map, Egyptian setting is going to be great. Can't wait to see what they have in store because I've wanted Egypt for years. In Sony Santa Monica we trust baby! Hurry up please! Lol
I can see two possible ways to get Kratos back in the game. One is Boy being in jeopardy by the Egyptian gods, Second that they come to his land to try and absorb the power Vacuum that is left open by the deaths of all the other gods.
I was hopin that they were goin back to the comic book where he tried runnin to Egypt just for them to tell him he was destined to destroy anywhere he goes.
I love the ideas they have released so far. I seriously doubt they would do it because it would trigger WAY too many people, but the thought of Kratos moving through each area of Earth's gods, eventually making his way to Christianity and Native American gods could be a really cool extended narrative. Make the idea of "No gods are off limits.... Kratos kills them all."
@anotherhappylanding4746 I haven't played 2018 or Ragnarok yet, so pardon the ignorant comment! Lol. But even so, I still stand by my original statement. If they find a way to take him to Egypt to wreck that set of gods, I don't think they should leave any of them off the table, regardless of creed or nationality. Almost similar to how the Assassin's Creed games had the "This game was created by a multicultural team with diverse backgrounds and religions" kind of statement. Why should it be OK to kill Poseidon or any other gods from prior games, but not being able to throw hands with any figures from Christianity? I'm in no way trying to start any arguments, so hopefully I'm not coming off like that. All in all, I'm just excited for things to come!
I'm sure it's been mentioned but atreyus even puts on an Egyptian headpiece in tyrs vault in the cutscene where Kratos finds the greecian pottery with a depiction of him. I'm just curious as to how this all intertwines. It's cool that in this universe the gods are essentially a race less so than mysticism
I really hope whatever Sony does next they break the cycle of their latest sequels. Just been way too much of, “did you like the first game? Here’s the exact same thing and you get to play as another character for part of it.”
Hes just goin on vacation to check out some cool pyramids and then BAM Anhur comes out of nowhere to challenge Kratos to see if he truly is a god of war.
Those last two games were incredible. The father-son relationship adds SO MUCH to the story, and I'm not sure if the new game could ever compare if it's just Kratos on his own.
Would love to see Kratos do some more pantheon hopping, providing an in-universe explanation on why the various gods stepped away from being more involved with humans. Egyptian, Japanese, Mayan, Hindu... those alone could provide literal decades worth of content burning through rich, varied pantheons. Of course that's not going to happen, no game series lives forever and they're going to have to decide somewhere along the way the ideal place to have a final throwdown and let Kratos and the various gods rest in the distant realms. It'll be interesting to see what setting they choose to use for that finale.
ragnorok was great but also felt kind of bloated at times, which makes sense seeing how that essentially shoved 2 games into one. A lack of bloat on several fronts is exactly why i prefer the 2018 game over its sequel, I get why they did it tho.
Forgive my ignorance but is a casting call for middle eastern actors the ONLY evidence this leaker is using to ‘verify’ the new setting? Surely there’s more to it than that, no? I have no reason to doubt the idea that they will end up doing an Egyptian arc (which would be awesome) but is everyone taking all of this as fact based on just a casting call? Please educate me if Im missing something?
honestly at this point as someone who also grew up with the greek games I feel like kratos's story is just done. I'm fine with them moving on to egyptian mythology but I would like them to consider a brand new protagonist for this one
Gameplay in Ragnarok was great but the story left a lot to be desired. It had too much going on and lacked focus, there were many character intentions and motivations that felt rushed and sometimes jumped the shark. The whole Freya forgiveness ark should have probably been the main focus and have it end on a cliff hanger of Atreus going to Asgard. Then Kratos could start Ragnarok to save him from a life of servitude to the gods.
Tbh i hope they dont depict the egyption gods as A-holes. And maybe dont have Atreus be the reason Kratos goes to egypt. I want an older atreus to get his own game. Personally i think a story low key representing the greek and roman invasions of Egypt would be kickass. Like Osiris teams up with the reformed Olympians(now the roman gods) led by Athena.(whom we saw was in egypt during the comic) And perhaps Ra or Isis could approach Kratos the God of Hope seeking his aid. Maybe Tyr and mimir could be the companions, or a solo Kratos adventure
Ragnarok and Valhalla ended on such a nice note I don't want them to backtrack/ruin Kratos's story. On the other hand I did not want Kratos to return after 3 so what do I know.
I've been calling this for years!!! Atreus is going to become evil, or at the very least, very strong in the antihero area. God of War doesn't leave loose ends as far as storytelling goes IMO. So here's my take. POSSIBLE SPOILERS Kratos stayed behind to help rebuild after Ragnarok and was actually beginning to come into his own as being a respected and just God. The God of Hope. Atreus went to find the other Jotun that fled before the massacre. Not knowing where to turn, Angrboda took him to a land that her grandmother spoke of, "The Land of The Pharaohs". This is where her grandmother got the Cauldron as a gift, in order to save Jotun who were too badly hurt physically to remain in their original physical form. Sindri is along for the ride too as he's still actively trying to make Atreus's live a living hell to claim revenge for Brok. Eventually Sindri will make too serious a threat to Angrboda and Atreus will in a fit of rage kill Sindri. Sindri's last words..."just like your father". Angrboda will start to see this shift in Atreus and question him about it, seperating their relationship further. In Egypt, Atreus will encounter many Jotun who were able to flee Jotunheim only to be enslaved to create and build a conduit (The Great Pyramid). Ev That also makes perfect sense as some people say that the Pyramids were constructed with the help of Giants. Even the huge statues in Egypt make sense in this storyline that the Giants possibly ended up here. In a rage to free his people I believe Atreus may claim all out war on this "Land of the Pharoahs" but ultimately get defeated badly maybe by an undergod like Set or Anubis. Licking his wounds, Atreus will come back to his Father, pleading that he found his people and that Kratos needs to help him defeat them. Kratos, being a changed man, will try to make Atreus see reason and say that maybe the can talk with these Pharaohs and have some kind of negotiation without blood. Atreus will say "When did you become so weak? These are MY people. MOTHER'S PEOPLE!!." Atreus with semi-mature spartan rage will attack Kratos, this time transforming into a dragon. Ultimately his father will defeat him but not kill him. Atreus being embarrassed of a second defeat, will beat himself up about it. "I wasn't a strong enough God. I couldn't protect Mother. I couldn't protect Angrboda. I couldn't save my people." The next mission would be the journey to get the Mask in order to amplify your power. It will work, but will ultimately turn Atreus into full blown Loki. I'm still working on the rest....
They could make it so the Egyptian gods invade the Norse lands and wage war on the Norse lands and make it into a new trylogy with a side game aswell as Atreus grown up a bit and starts using more weapons besides a bow and arrow and in the end he either gets captured or killed in the end then the first egytian god of war starts with either atreus being chained and shown to Kratos or his head chopped in front of Kratos in the first game starts. Personally if they went this route I would like Atreus being alive because it would show Kratos is no longer filled with anger but instead is a father going to save his son and in the process protecting the Norse lands in this new war with returning characters such as Sindri siding with the egyptian Gods because of broks death and how he feels it was Atreus's fault.
Spoilers for Ragnarok below The franchise can go in many directions as Santa Monica have left so many story beats unanswered here are just a few: 1. Who blew the horn 2. What happens with Sindri 3. What happens with Atreus search for other giants. 4. What is going on with Sigrun as she also sets off on her own. 5. Kratos, Freya, & Mmirs rebuilding effort of the Norse lands 6. The rebuilding effort taking place in Greece
It would actually work if they do like a prequel sequel where Atreus travels through the Egyptian mythos looking for the other giants souls only to find a bunch of pissed off Gods that Kratos mowed down in between the Greece ending and the Norse beginning. So you would cut to Kratos talking to Mimir about his escapades in Egypt and trying to find meaning after all that death only to have to fight a bunch of Egyptian gods as like a pre-wise old man but post hot-headed young man. Like your mid 30s. So you fight those gods as Kratos (in a flashback sequence) and then have to finish what Kratos started as a now Young Adult Atreus. Finding little nods to your old man and some of his lessons trickling in. Maybe get a team up at the end when Atreus gets a little in over his head. Tell Santa Monica to contact me lol
I would love it if the Egyptian gods start the conflict. They are more about balance and maybe consider Kratos and Atreus as tipping the balance too far by removing the Greek and Norse Pantheons and they seek to balance the world
More God of War is never bad. I love the Kratos story I will say I would be nice to see his story. He dies as a Gos being loved. So he can finally rest and be a peace. I think that would be kinda awesome. Also make the Egyptian saga as a trilogy
I had a feeling Egyptian mythology would be next since it's the most popular one after Greek/Roman and Norse mythologies. I do hope the series will end with Roman mythology since it's so similar to Greek.
They could make it that the Egyptian gods start a war with him out of fear or ego after hearing the stories of all the gods he has killed so far. Let’s get him before he gets us.
So we going back in time then? that doesnt really make sense. in the comics he already traveled to Egypt to get to the norse lands. so off screen he was already in Egypt. this doesnt make sense to go back. and considering in the older series and new. time only goes forward. they never did a prequel.. so i say this leak is fake.
I personally do not want Kratos to return, at least not for a full game. I feel like he's done. Raising Atreus and saving the realm from Odin and everything feels like his redemption and at last he's no longer angry. I wouldn't hate a cameo in an Atreus focused game, or even a flashback or someone telling a story of him and his deeds, so we could play as him again, But Kratos deserves peace and frankly a break
Its cool but I am not surprised. If you read Greek mythology there are stories where the Greek Gods go to Egypt. One of the most famous stories is when they go to Egypt to escape Typhon's wrath. Heck I bet some of the Greek gods might be there if Kratos visits the place. Its possible cause some of the Gods were missing in Kratos journey such as Artemis. Artemis was in the first one but she no longer appeared and as well as the other ones in his journey.
Nobody mentioned the fact he walked from Greek to Norse for almost 1000 years he was like a couple hundred years old when he "killed" himself and in the 2018 he was over 1000 years old
I hate it when the main character's story is perfectly completed only to be undone for the sake of a sequel. I'd rather have a new character. Atreus would be a better pic. He's already traveling, good chance he winds up in Egypt at some point. Definitely age a bulk him up though.
First of, ascension wasn't bad, it was unnecessary, but it wasn't bad, second of, I would love to see a new god of war in Egypt, but if they make it with Celtic mythology, to related to Mimir, it would be awesome to.
I did like the atreus game section. Maybe the next game will be about atreus tried to be like tyr but ended up missing in Egypt so kratos showed up to ask what's up....with an Axe.
If they want to make Atreus game - sure, I'll play it. But make it like Miles Morales, some interim, tie-in story or something. Just a short 20h game would be OK really
I would like a spin ofg game inthe norse mythology purely because i feel like more could be done there (set it after god of war and before ragnarok). But for a sequel game i would rather celtic setting, egyptian gets done alot but i cant think of much that does celtic
God of War 2018 was originally meant to be about Egyptian mythology before diverging to Norse mythology instead.

It can and it has been done. Its even better
Didn’t someone in the devs literally say that Egypt was next like, years ago?
I don't mind future games focusing on Atreus as long as he's older and has a proper melee weapon for default.
Egyptian myths are a great idea. But what about Babylonian with like Gilgamesh? 👀
What is Kratos has to hang "jesus" on a cross 😂 then split the seas so he can travel out of Egypt
What you said is important. But tying up loose ends would be great for stories like Betrayal and where the comics left off.
Aztec or Mayan culture game would be very fascinating
Egypt would be cool, but at some point, I want to see more about the Celtic lore. What other games have even mentioned that?
The best conclusion for Kratos' time in Norse mythology is found in the FREE Valhalla DLC the studio gave us.
i don't like the idea of the god of war paving the way for monotheism
I believe next game it's focus on Atraus traveling around.
Could be nice. Maybe a older Atraus and different gameplay for him...
POSSIBLE SPOILERS
Kratos stayed behind to help rebuild after Ragnarok and was actually beginning to come into his own as being a respected and just God.
Ev
That also makes perfect sense as some people say that the Pyramids were constructed with the help of Giants.
MOTHER'S PEOPLE!!."
Atreus with semi-mature spartan rage will attack Kratos, this time transforming into a dragon. Ultimately his father will defeat him but not kill him.
Atreus being embarrassed of a second defeat, will beat himself up about it. "I wasn't a strong enough God. I couldn't protect Mother. I couldn't protect Angrboda. I couldn't save my people."
The next mission would be the journey to get the Mask in order to amplify your power. It will work, but will ultimately turn Atreus into full blown Loki.
I'm still working on the rest....
Really hope that mimir stays with Kratos moving forward. He’s as iconic as the blades at this point.
Spoilers for Ragnarok below
The franchise can go in many directions as Santa Monica have left so many story beats unanswered here are just a few:
1. Who blew the horn
2. What happens with Sindri
3. What happens with Atreus search for other giants.
4. What is going on with Sigrun as she also sets off on her own.
5. Kratos, Freya, & Mmirs rebuilding effort of the Norse lands
Tell Santa Monica to contact me lol
i would love to explore egypt with freya
If God of War goes everywhere Assassins Creed goes, I'd be pretty satisfied. God of War: Black Flag? Hell yeah!
Atreus captured or killed in Egypt would be an easy way to get Kratos there
I would love it if the Egyptian gods start the conflict.
PREDICTION atreus will cause conflict with another region leading to kratos being killed
Just let me play as Kratos destroying every pantheon. It’s all I need.
I can see them going with kratos trying to find his son which leads him to egypt
I don't understand why people are so surprised of course we knew that the next god of war is in egypt
Only when someone mentions it do I remember Ascension exists. I don't remember a thing that happened in it
I personally do not want Kratos to return, at least not for a full game. I feel like he's done. Raising Atreus and saving the realm from Odin and everything feels like his redemption and at last he's no longer angry.
I wouldn't hate a cameo in an Atreus focused game, or even a flashback or someone telling a story of him and his deeds, so we could play as him again,
But Kratos deserves peace and frankly a break
Are the graphics still a high contrast blurry mess we got in Ragnarok ?
Its cool but I am not surprised. If you read Greek mythology there are stories where the Greek Gods go to Egypt. One of the most famous stories is when they go to Egypt to escape Typhon's wrath. Heck I bet some of the Greek gods might be there if Kratos visits the place. Its possible cause some of the Gods were missing in Kratos journey such as Artemis. Artemis was in the first one but she no longer appeared and as well as the other ones in his journey.
I bet you can also find one of Zues's kids in Egypt, Epaphus.
It’s very easy to drag Kratos back into war with a new pantheon of gods. Have a god kill Atreus
That would feel like taking steps back.
@ you could say it’d feel like a Greek tragedy
First of, ascension wasn't bad, it was unnecessary, but it wasn't bad, second of, I would love to see a new god of war in Egypt, but if they make it with Celtic mythology, to related to Mimir, it would be awesome to.
We gonna see a circle on Cleopatra's head this time rewarding us with xp and hacksilver
Why is Sony hiring middle east actors? Christopher Judge isn't a greek guy.
This is a videogame, not a movie
I would like a spin ofg game inthe norse mythology purely because i feel like more could be done there (set it after god of war and before ragnarok). But for a sequel game i would rather celtic setting, egyptian gets done alot but i cant think of much that does celtic
