I was expecting a whole different type of bow and this bow has way more power than what I thought he was making. 😎👍
You are not alone, I also thought about double thickness😅
But how do you feel about this channel stealing Clay's content?
@@sashadydishqev7658 that Bow had plenty of weight for big game.
Clay Hayes is an unbelievable survivalist and outdoorsman. His channel is outstanding...family oriented as well.

This was so informative and fun to watch! I think some of my fav parts are all the dif uses he made of his knife! That was a lesson in and of itself!
Cool video but I was looking forward to seeing the spikey one at the start of this video bit of a drop bait
Never judge a video by it's thumbnail.
I just reported it.
You're an idiot if you thought that bow in the thumbnail would ever be made or even useful as anything aside from a display piece.
I need this guy with me during the zombie apocalypse.
Sir u have great skills pleasure watching u build bows❤️👌
This guy has done a lot of RUclips videos. He is an absolute master of bow making.
No true Master needs to clickbait 😂
@@Gn8Lif3 That'll be Quantum Tech HD doing the clickbaiting.
@@Gn8Lif3 This is not his channel though. Dude is the real deal. He won History Channel's "Alone" by surviving 2 and a half months in the woods during winter with just a few tools. Hunted deer with a recurve bow, built a small cabin, had encounters with bears. The only reason he gave up was because he was missing his family, but even so he outlasted the other competitors.
@@mrkiky you gotta know your Limits no shame in that
@@mrkikywhat is his name? And what is the name of the tv show? Where can I find it?
Great idea, and must be as powerful as you can get from a hand made Bushcraft Bow, many thanks for sharing, Ian frim England
Clay Hayes is an awesome dude. He won season 8 of Alone and has some serious skills and knowledge in all areas of traditional archery.
traditional archery use 150-160+ pounds bow🤣its children toy, not bow
@user-zq9ey8zj2g Not even close. Try again. English long bows were traditionally between 80-120#, and traditional archery today is usually right around 50-60#.
I shoot traditional archery and am a part of a few groups dedicated to traditional archery skills. I have also studied ancient war weaponry and tactics.
You obviously realize that a bow at 150# is extremely difficult to pull back and use. It's very counter productive to even make a bow that high of draw weight. The idea in battle was field as many as possible, not 0.000001% of the army.
@@Devis1982 Don't spread bullshit. The topic is a survival bow, not the medieval war bow. For bowhunting you don't need the bow stronger than 55#, even 40# is quite enough for taking down medium sized game. Animals do not wear steel armor, didn't notice that?
Belo arco!
A good and viable bow design. Mr Hayes definitely has a mastery of the parang.

I used to try to make bows like that when I was a kid, but I would always break them. Very cool!

Your tent is very beautiful, I like the way you survive in the forest
You can clearly see he didn't make his hat, t-shirt and machete either. He's such a fake. He clearly bought these things JUST LIKE that tent. What is he even playing at claiming to live in the woods? Oh wait. He's never claimed he lives and survives in the forest. He makes bows.
Remember kids the most important part in survival is that things look cool.
Amazing work! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
mesmerising to watch the archer and the dude
Way cool design and craftsmanship..
Realmente este ficou muito bom mesmo 😊parabéns
You could trade that for a squaw, and a couple baskets.
Thats the real surviving bow ...love it..
Very nice 🙂
That's a fairly modern design made by a guy called Penobscot who figured out how to get a half decent tension from relatively low poundage bows, great if you can't find a suitable piece of wood for a self bow, a bow of a single piece usually made of a more flexible material like ash or yew.
I've used a penobscot it's a great design but I don't think I've ever come across one with over an 80lb draw? Which is good enough for hunting game I guess
Maybe just try with a 80lbs string?
Having never hunted game (with the exception of missing lots of rodents as an exuberant youth), Id hazard a guess that much more than 80lbs and you lose control of arrow flight, as if holding it steady waiting for game to give a good shot
I don't know where you heard that origin from, but the reason it is called a penobscot bow is because it originates from the Penobscot people of northern America. It's not a particularly modern design at all. Also, how heavy the draw weight is entirely depends on the maker and the wood, and 80 is more than enough for hunting.
@@ronandixon8486 This is incorrect it was made by William Penobscot, he was inspired by Mary Recurve, John Longbow and Timothy Selfbow (who actually copied Hubert Bundle).

Very impressed by your machete. Very sharp for such a use.
Guau !! Excelente!! Gracias por compartir!!
Awesome, made it look easy
Why can he create them so perfectly? That's so great
And that is a compound bow made in the forest awesome
A real Master
Thx for upload
Respekt tolle Arbeit 👍🏹
Wow great job bro 👍👍
This is so cool
That's so great
I want to know how many times he needed to sharpen his hatchet knife. And what did he use to sharpen with. I can't imagine just any random rock would give an edge as sharp as that broad sword appeared to have.
It looks like a "Condor Mini Duku Machete", 1075 steel, pretty easy to sharpen on a smooth rock (like the ones found in rivers). ^^
wow this is really cool.. i gotta try this out
me gunna make make one of dem bowes
This appears to be a rudimentary compound bow. Awesome.
Somewhat misleading cover/ title image, but always great to see Clay Hayes do his magic. Well worth heading over to his channel to see more of this man's genius...
This guy has got crazy good craftsmanship skills. And that machete looks like it came from Condor knife & tool.
Amazing Craftsmanship 👍🏻👍🏽👍
I love how the thumbnail bow and the one he made look "EXACTLY" the same!!! ..... (Quantum Tech do better)
So let me get this right you saw the thumbnail and thought that would make a legitimately useful bow? He doesn't need to do better you just need to be smarter. He's out there doing survival shit not trying to be a fucking larp nerd.
@SwansonDoggz she's not calling out Clays video. She's calling out the page that reposted his video. And while it is quite irrelevant, I get it. Clickbait anything is the trash in the ocean.
@@SwansonDoggzyou noob he is showing something else with the click Bait of another , thats the issue not how he survives, dumb ass
That’s Incredibleee congratulations!!!!!!
Although I am genuinely impressed with this bow and the skill behind how it was made it bares absolutely no resemblence to the one on the main picture (thumbnail) at the beginning of the video.
Absolutely love this. Northeastern native style bow..
It didn't quiet look like the Bow in the initial Advertisement!
Nice work. Your ancient ancestors would be proud.
Seems very complicated for a survival bow. Will the tension remain in both bows or do they lose tension after a few arrows?
In his bow it will hold quite well but if we do one it will take some set especially if the wood is not dry. If you watch 4:00 he heats the main bow to make a preamptive curve to the belly so it would not lose tension as much. Also dries it heating it that way so it will be tougher.
Lol as a kid we used to do this with saplings. They hold their integrity for quite a while we used whatever we could get that didn't snap easily didn't care too much exactly what it was and had wars with one another shooting wooden dowels.
I've seen a bow similar to this before, it's a very interesting design. So which tree branch was it made from? If it was mentioned in the video, I missed it.
From 0:45 on it can be seen in the text.
Buen video!
Que tipo de madera utilizas?
Gracias

I wonder if he had to sharpen that knife or if it held the edge through this entire process. Now that's a knife
wow you are so creative. I will also learn but made of bamboo
Wow! I was sceptical at video start, so proven wrong!

Once i made it to the Firepit with the bow hanging i realized i had seen this video when it rreleased... gonna watch it again anyway.
The video i needed when i was a kid haha nice craft
That looks very nice, but have you ever caught/kill something with it??
🤗🤗🤗💯💯💯💯💯➕➕➕➕➕✊✊✊✊✊✊✊👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏.
What hardware store materials can this be made out of? PVC pipe?
Straight yew is hard to come by.
I would think that the best survival bow would be one manufactured with high-tech materials and machining in a bow factory. Honestly I still think that.
I really like your idea, especially the tool to create a very sharp bow😍😍
This is really impressive and all but if were learning to live in the wild I need to know where to get string and a machete first.
Alone tv show guy doing what he knows beautiful work sir
Would be good and extremely helpful to know exactly the very type of wood (tree) is he using for he's bow 'cos as far as I know, only very few are suitable for bow making . Thank you. Keep up the good job!
Curious to know how many times you had to sharpen you blade, during this process? Certainly, an interesting built!
If the steel quality is good enough he didnt need to resharpen it at all I carved three knife handles using a buck knife the other day and the knife still sliced through paper like it was nothing afterward I only sharpened it again out of habit.
The bow is very good ❤👍🏽🏹
Real nice bow!
Molto bravo e ingegnoso!!!!!!

I would have like to see how he made the bow that was shown in the advertisement for this video. but it does look like he does good work.
please, tell us: 1) what is the weight of your arrows? (approx.) 2) what is the initial speed of arrows? (or the range)
Awsome build!
Hey what kind of wood did you use im wanting to recreate this bow for deer season next year
Did you re-sharpen the blade while filming the whole process of making the bow?
How do you make the arrows????
On behalf of myself I want to say only thank you and a huge respect not every day - when to surprise people with each second more and more difficult to find people who are able to run people to hold up and even make them watch the whole video from beginning to end to give an exceptionally positive emotion and even make you write a comment, I once again want to say for a really specifically excellent video your charisma skill all just prohibitively cool I enjoyed watching your work!
how did he make the string? was that the bark that he just frayed and wove into a string or was it something else
This is the best bow making tutorial, he uses 100% natural objects we can fine in the wood, except the knife of course lol.
