  • For a unified body, the church has an awful lot of divisions, disagreements and doctrinal "don'ts." In this short video, we explore "A House Divided."

      You are right. They also employ a marketing strategy. They promise believers a happy life now followed by an even happier afterlife later. Just drop your money in the collection box or send in your check. But the best part is that their claims can never be fact checked. We impose truth standards on products like toothpaste and bug spray but not on religion.

      truthbknwn And Paul contradicted a LOT of Jesus' teachings. In fact, in all of the writings attributed to Paul, not once does he ever quote anything Jesus ever said in the gospels. This includes the Sermon on the Mount, the Beattitudes, the parables and various teachings; and he mentions not a peep about Jesus' miracles, the events of his birth, or anything else. The reason for this is because, for Paul, Jesus was strictly a spiritual being who never had a physical existence on Earth. If he had believed otherwise, he would have made liberal use of the events of Jesus' life to highlight and reinforce his own teachings. It is the reason why so much of what we read in his letters contradicts the teachings of the gospels.

    • @truthbknwn
      @truthbknwn 10 лет назад

      ElveeKaye Re: The apostle Paul. I agree with you, and Paul even contradicts his own self in SEVERAL places. However, contradictions aren't exclusive to the Pauline epistles. The other apostles contradict Jesus, and even Jesus contradicts HIMSELF.
      I believe in God, but IMHO, this Bible cannot be "God's Word" to have so MANY contradictions in it. I have no agenda to be saying that, i.e., I am not serving Satan as so many Christians accuse me of, I AM JUST BEING HONEST about what my own personal research has revealed.

      Great comment! I agree with you 90% because I do believe heaven exists. It would be ideal to live in a loving relationship withal people in fact that is what heaven is going to be like. The only problem in being able to do this in the world we live in today is that not everyone cares about being good to their neighbor. Some people believe in persecuting others for sport. Some people believe that stealing and killing are ok if they can give themselves a good reason for doing it. Even if all people who call themselves Christians loved their neighbor and their enemies, there would still be pain and suffering in the world, because every time wicked people use their free will do to evil others get hurt. That is why heaven is a reality. God has made a place for all people who nurture love in their hearts to live in peace after He destroys all the ones who refuse to do good once and for all on judgment day. I wish you well.

    • @pdoylemi
      @pdoylemi 9 лет назад +1

      Maybe the problem with the world is the example we are given to follow. Jesus says to forgive, and says to love others, but what does he do? If you don't love him and do as he says, he sends you to hell to be tortured forever.

    Christians denominations different people twisting the bible to fit their wants. Christians say that in order to understand the Bible, a Christian has to let the Holy Spirit guide them and interpret it for them. However, many of these sincere Bible-believing Christians who do just that, asking the Holy Spirit inside them to help them interpret the Bible, come to disagree on countless doctrines and interpretations of the Bible! How could that be? Why would the Holy Spirit, the third part of God, which supposedly helps believers in understanding and interpreting the Bible, be causing all these different interpretations among sincere believers? Does the Holy Spirit love disunity? Does it love playing mind games with people? Such a man made book, the Bible.

In fact there are even more conflicts you didn't mention I'm sure for the sake of brevity. I am very hesitant to join any church because most are utterly confused and hypocritical. Satan it seems has taken over the vast majority. Roman Catholic Church was the first one, then the creation of Islam, then protestantism and now there are close to 40,000 doctrines in the world. It's like a huge puzzle. Very interesting indeed.

    Great video, too many atheists and agnostics underestimate the divisions within Christianity and treat it as one religion, when really it's at least several quite different faiths, and arguably 33,000. Different Christian denominations used to absolutely hate each other, but they've come together more recently over issues like abortion and opposing marriage equality. It's time atheists and skeptics started trying to exploit these divisions to turn them against each other again!

    Let us understand this. An honest finite being uses the best words, in his judgement, to convey his meaning. This is the best he can do, because he cannot certainly know the exact effect of his words on others. But an infinite being must know not only the real meaning of the words, but the exact meaning the will convey to every reader and hearer. He must know every meaning that they are capable of conveying to every mind.

    "Have you read the Bible?"
    That's what made me an atheist. I was a Christian for 20 years and my parents sent me to Christian schools since kindergarten. I began to question my faith as I grew older and I turned to my Bible for answers. Becoming more familiar with biblical content resulted in my apostasy. Subsequent conversations with my parents made them question their faith so much that they stopped attending church. Religious beliefs fail miserably when subjected to critical scrutiny.

    "The just shall live by faith!" That's the battle cry of the Reformation. The most critical thinkers in history have been Christians such as the apostle Paul, Augustine, Aquinas,Calvin, Owen, Van Til, Rushdoony and many others. The Greeks like Plato and Aristotle with all their worldly wisdom and thinking did not know God. They perished without the hope of Jesus Christ.

    OK, chuckles. That's my experience, growing up in and attending Baptist churches for the first few decades of my life. No baptist church, no member or deacon/pastor of any of them, said anything against smoking or dancing. This is a fact. They defined "baptist" (or, in most of their cases, "only true christian") as profession of faith and baptism by immersion. And yes, Southern Baptist churches tend to have potlucks frequently, at least the ones I went to.

    Religious distress is at the same time the expression of real distress and the protest against real distress. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is required for their real happiness. The demand to give up the illusion about its condition is the demand to give up a condition which needs illusions.

    I didn't say that 'god' requires no causation. I said that if one even attempted to tie together the concepts of causation and the origin of spacetime, one cannot do so sensibly. This fact, in and of itself, renders any appeal to a creator superfluous.

    He must also know what explanations must be made to prevent misconception. If an infinite being cannot, in making a revelation to man, use such words that every person to whom a revelation is essential will understand distinctly what that revelation is, then a revelation from God through the instrumentality of language is impossible, or it is not essential that all should understand it correctly.

    "And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:" Matthew 12:25. And that was Jesus speaking so it's really sad how his own people are divided on every single decision possible and they can't even agree on the very basics of what the bible teaches.

    My home town is full of car lots, new and used, many taverns/bars and numerous churches, they're ALL businesses but only one of them sells an invisible product and is tax exempt...
    Last year it was in the news that they busted a pot dealer... in the list of charges against him the one that caught my eye was... Tax Evasion ! that's right, he didn't claim his profits from his dealings... I was thinking he should of became a Minister and claim his profits from selling weed were tax exempt.

    I was raised Southern Baptist. Even though I'm an atheist now, I go to a Nazarene (a Wesleyan denomination) church with my friends so my mother (a Southern Baptist choir director/singer) doesn't have suspicions. The irony is that the majority of my friends, including the ones at this church, are atheist, agnostic, or "Christians" who don't really care much about practice.
    In my life I've been to Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian, and nondenominational churches. I've seen so much. XD

    @SconeMason would cover to a degree the two mentioned groups of anabaptists, but Quakers who were a response movement to the Anabaptists are certainly not luddites. depending on which subgroup of Quakers you encounter they might even be universal unitarian, non invterventionalist, pacifist, egalitarians.

    Actually, it is very possible, but I cant explain it in 500 characters. I'll just cover the main things. Species were man-made designations the same way breeds of dogs and horses are. Also, the strength of the ark is believed to be from the material it was made of, gopher wood. It is unclear what gopher wood was, but it's likely the ark's strength came from it, and the tree was probably made extinct by making the ark. I could write an entire essay on how the Flood is possible and happened.

    Ever heard of brackish water? The Baltic sea (located between Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Germany) are a mix of salt and fresh water and contain a sample of both fresh water and salt water marine life, that can survive the cross over. Why are they only there and not everywhere?

    "A House divided" is not originally a quote from Lincoln, he got the idea from New Testament. It appears that both Matthew and Mark quoted Jesus for that. It may well be older than that.

      Except when Jesus applied it he did it in a logical fallacy. In the story Jesus is accused of being in league with the devil, that he can cast demons out because he is in league with the devil. His response to the accusation is that a house divided against itself cannot stand. The only problem is that if Jesus were in league with the devil and were trying to convince people that he was God's son then the demons doing what Jesus commands them to do is an example of a house united, not divided. Sure Jesus might have been the first to use the phrase(I think it has even earlier anthers) His use was sloppy and did not make any sense logically.

    I was merely making a point that the Bible contains more recorded history than any other historical text in existence (including the Iliad and Odyssey) as CynicalSkeptic1 simply downgraded the Bible to "a book of ancient fairy-tales". In fact, if you send a letter to the Smithsonian Institute asking them their thoughts on the Bible, they will send you a letter saying the Bible has more accurate records than any Greek, Egyptian, or Mesopotamian texts.

    A lot of species would die out, yes, but I doubt the change in overall salinity would be enough to wipe out a significant portion of the fish, since so little of Earth's fresh water is above ground and not frozen.
