IAmTheLord3 Mine, of course! You're going to hell you heathen unbeliever! ;) Have you noticed that all religions have only the false promise of a paradise and the empty threats of a hell? If they had a single fact, would they need lies and threats?
You're part right. The placebo effect is a real thing and for some people prayer can trigger it. Lets split the difference and say prayer works about as good as a flintstones chewable vitamin.
***** I think that if prayer appears to work, it is always for one of three reasons. Coincidence, wishful thinking or the placebo effect. There is no divine intervention Some biblical scholars actually say that prayer is arrogant, self-centred and even Blasphemous. If god is omniscient, then he has already decided what is to happen in the world. If you pray to him to for something, then you are assuming you can change his mind. Therefore if your prayer is answered, and what happened was always god’s plan, then your prayer was totally useless. If it was not his plan, then you are claiming to have the power to change god’s mind, therefore he is not omniscient. That is definitely Arrogant.
You are wrong. I prayed the ultimate prayer when I was young - I prayed that no prayers after my prayer shall come true and it has worked until this very day.
The crying statue reminded me of a story where a Jesus statue was seen to appear as if it was crying. People collected the water even drank it.... it was later discovered that the statue was next to a wall where on the opposite side was a busted toilet. ... that may not be some holy shit but close enough
This is an extremely well done video. The voice over is hilarious and does wonders to an already well written satire. The quality of video used by atheist youtubers and producers has been steadily increasing over the years, it's wonderful. We need more of them to fight of this worrying global radicalization, and maybe eventually, religion itself. Good show sir.
"faith, that is all I need" true word. Faith is the awareness of God and it increases as we confess the sin and evil that separates us from God and keeps us hiding from God. God is sooooooo real, and sooooo awesome, and soooooo patient and gentle.
I have two relatives who got severely injured while going to or coming from church. My atheist mum always said that going to church will grant its reward. :D
I once saw a creationist do this: "I have 2 buckets of water. One has been blessed, one is from my tap." He turned the tap one upside down and pointed to the water dumping out. (it was in a park) He then took the holy one, which had a rope tied to it, and swung it around in front of him. He then said "Look! The holy water doesn't fall out!" A women walked up to him and said "No that's called physics!" She is now my hero!
It is truly amazing what people will believe. I worked with 2 guys from Missouri. One guy had been beaten so bad that he couldn't walk for 2 years. He told me that he did physical therapy for months and after praying...a miracle happened...he re-learned to walk. I told him that there is no reason to believe it was a miracle mostly because of the therapy. He got short with me & demanded: "IT WAS A MIRACLE !!!" I said: "fine, it was a miracle" cont--->>>
I remember being 14 and attending a private Christian school when that tsunami hit. I also remember my teacher bringing it up during Bible Class (seriously), and saying how the country will now think twice about their heathen crimes against God and that an eternity in Hell was "going easy on them."
My 'non - believing' uncle use to beat my aunty. He cheated on her multiple times and they eventually divorced. She never remarried. But my aunty, who remained a faithful Christian, put both her children through school, fed them, clothed them and loved them. Now they're both healthy, hard working members of society, and still faithful Christians. I think that's a miracle of God.
Lol I just recently told "my" bishop that I was agnostic. After being forced to go to church, get baptized, do services, etc etc for 5 years at the mormon church. I feel so much better that I did, because he seems to leave me alone more. I was getting so sick of being expected to believe in the same stuff, then being told my beliefs and ideas were wrong and stupid.
@some1udontknow84 I do agree with what you're saying. Your make a valuable point. My aunty did a wonderful job raising her children. I appreciate that you recognize the credit she deserves. In addition, she also acknowledges that she could only have raised her children through the strength and love of God. As a Christian myself, I fully concede that it sounds irrational.
You have a very soothing documentary voice. I don't even have to know what you're saying I still love listening. That isn't the only reason I listen though, your videos are hilarious!
I get your point. I often ask questions: "God, why are you not doing anything about it?" My experience is that he is not doing nothing, but that he is doing different things than we expect, for reasons that we cannot see. After years I think, "Oh! that's why!". But still lot's of questions remain unanswered. This one too I'm afraid. Please do realise that God cares. But God really cares much more for your friends heart than for her body. Feel free to ask God this question. He knows the answer.
"He who forsaketh reason shall live an unfulfilled life, denying unto himself the full value of free will and progressive thought." - UkeOokami 12:17:2012
+Barb Roy Sounds like a dictatorship. The only way to successfully force everyone to do something is generally by threat of violence or promise of favors. (And even then people still rebel even in the most dangerous of situations.) Which will God do? Revelations promises the violence actually. So your god is a tyrannical, narcissistic dictator. I am sure there will be people who stand against him ordering everyone to bow and refuse to do so even if he is somehow real. Your god is Kim Jong Il by all descriptions of his behavior and need to be worshiped or kill those who don't. Let that settle in your head for a moment.
Good question. Yes, I care. And I also understand you care, and I would be surprised if you wouldn't. So sorry if it was blunt, and you are probably right that I should not have said it was purposeless. You are right that that is a valid purpose. For me it is important that my sister got healed and I thank God for that. But much more important to me is that she knows God. My priority is that I care to be healthy for eternity. For this life it is important as well, but temporary.
I love all of the arguing going on in the comments!! :D I also love this quote from futurama, "Things don't exist simply because you believe in it! Sayeth the all mighty creature in the sky!!!"
When little Simeon was born he had no eyeballs. The family was saddened, until , months later, they heard of the Osborn Crusade in Nakuru. The child was brought by its mother. T.L. preached: "The things that are impossible with men are possible with God." During the mass prayer, the mother believed. Within a few moments, tiny eyes formed. The child could clearly see. By the next day, its eyes were normal - a creative miracle. One year later, our daughter, LaDonna went with me to visit child
God is love. Revelation 21. 3 I heard a loud voice speaking from the throne: Now God's home is with people! He will live with them, and they shall be his people. God himself will be with them, and he will be their God.4 He will wipe away all tears from their eyes. There will be no more death, no more grief or crying or pain. The old things have disappeared.
Like I said: if people prayed for her, they had too little faith. She will be healed if somebody (or a group) with enough faith prays for her. If that does not happen, she will eventually be healed at the resurrection. Apparently, the group that prayed for my sister did have enough faith for it at that very moment. So she healed sooner. I will pray for your friend, I promise. But I can't garantee that my faith is enough either. I'll do my best, ok?
I think you guys need to do a whole exhaustive video on the shroud of Turin. That little piece there will not be enough for a full argument, and so many people use it as evidence these days, it would be nice to have a very thorough stripping down of it.
Matthijs, I've been walking around with the "that's a too long time" problem for a while, but at some point I realized I was thinking too little of God. I can't explain in 500 digits, but I don't worry about that any more. God alone is allowed to serve his own honor. That's not the same as selfish.
Vancouver Island, some years back: The finish on the bare metal back of a highway sign created a small amount of refraction as the sign was flexed ever so slightly while being bolted to its two posts. This appeared as a sort of Gothic arch-shaped rainbow that believers soon dubbed to be the image of Jesus. Within days, the grassy area behind the sign was filled with flowers, candles, and the kneeling forms of supplicants asking for miracles. I believe Jesus was dispatched with a socket wrench.
Actually , In Jinja Uganda a lady that had terminal cancer that was well known as a politician. She had been to the doctors and witchdoctors, and had one of her breasts removed. At Todd Bentley's meeting she grew a new breast, and it made front page news as everyone in the city new her situation! Also 2 sets of medical teams verified that 23 people were miraculously raised from the dead during his Lakeland revival! My friend Harry Gomes prayed for a man that got new feet in Vancouver Canada.
I watched a documentary about it, they say the face actually looks like Da Vinci, and at that time the person who would be capable of doing such a masterpiece would be Da Vinci. Everything points to him, but it was kept for centuries by the church as "evidence" of the resurrection of Jeezuz
DIdn't even seriously harm them? "Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys." Those are some mighty rose-tinted spectacles you have there.
My mother almost died giving birth to me. She lost alot of blood from complications, and we're both fortunate to be in good health today. She claims that I am a miracle baby, and that this is why she knows there is a God. Curious as to what else God did on my birthday, I found out that 32 miners died in the Ukraine after a coal mine fire. I never really thought to use this to argue against a miracle.
It did help, thanks. For the sake of argument, what do you think about my last statement, that theists would often tend to give credit to "god" for things that men did, claiming he inspired/caused the acts/events. Pyramids for instance: though they were made in honor of gods, it was (supposedly, we still don't exactly understand how they built them) the sweat of egyptians who achieved the construction. The gods were honored, the men simply sent home. I hate that kind of thing, it's everywhere.
Genesis 1: God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness" So, we are much like God. But we are not all powerful and all that. Yet, God has emotions.
God has such a wonderful sense of humor. Plastering faces onto food items is obviously more important than stopping natural disasters. Hail be to the Food-burning God! Burner of food and plasterer of faces!
Matthijs, This is a sincere question. Sorry to hear about your friend. I will pray for him. I know lots who do/did not heal unfortunately and I don't have all the answers either. I'll tell you what I know: Most heared answer is "lack of faith". That could be true, but not for your friend but for those who prayed for him. Most effective is if a real Christian puts his hands on your friend and sais: be healed in Jesus name. My sister and others had multiple intense praying sessions before healing.
Like one of those statue stories, can't remember where it was from. They saw a statue crying, people gathered to pray etc and some went as far as to drink the tears cos they thought it had healing powers and whatever crap. Well, sometime later a guy came to tell that it was a sewage water leak.... "Just have faith"
@NaliTikva So you're saying if less people were mean to each other, natural disasters wouldn't happen? Do you listen to yourself when you speak, or do you find you drift in & out?
100 people die in a plane crash but one child survives. "It's a miracle!"
Steve27775 its like thanking a murderer for murdering your family and sparring one of you children.

CHEESUS CRUST! Its a miracle!!
On a more serious note, wow I had no idea that NASA pulled this off at 2005, really impressive.

Personally, I thought the face on the toast looked like marilyn monroe...
You aren't alone.

Prayer doesn't work. Never has, never will.
Miracles don't happen. Never have, never will.
End of story. Live with it.

"That face on the Toast was not Jesus, it was Jim Morrison!"

Wrong! Jim was on the fish stick.
Yes He is for He cannot be loving without being wrathful against all that is wilfully destructive and that means you. Woe to you!

I need the audio for "It's a Miracle"
Just screencastify it, or rip the goddamn youtube video, and separate the phrase!
ruclips.net/video/dX4b1N1vsUc/видео.html Enjoy!
my favourite song started playing on the radio, IT´S A MIRACLE.
I want to laugh at this video, but hearing all of those horrible things happening makes my heart hurt.
The vid was great.
It shows the stupidity of religion very well.
Seth, ten years on and it hasn't lost its edge, it's, it's, A Miracle!
i bet some Christian's watched this video and then started praying
I once saw a creationist do this: "I have 2 buckets of water. One has been blessed, one is from my tap." He turned the tap one upside down and pointed to the water dumping out. (it was in a park) He then took the holy one, which had a rope tied to it, and swung it around in front of him. He then said "Look! The holy water doesn't fall out!" A women walked up to him and said "No that's called physics!" She is now my hero!
1:43 Now we'll have the Church of Jesus Christ of Latté-day saints.
Religious people count the hits and ignore the misses.
Or there's the woman who nearly died in a flaming car crash, but her BIBLE survived the flames! Clearly the work of a loving God looking out for us.
"It's a Miracle!" that people fall for these things and often overlook or ignore the tragedy around us.
Jesus lives in a fish stick! All hail and give praise to the lord of tartar sauce!

how would a burnt toast get an image of holy figures? can you guys explain it? im really curious how it would happen
