My girl you need one of those lights for people who have seasonal depression. I can tell you're really going thru it, I totally feel that. I HATE winter and autumn. The cold wreaks havoc on my joints and I'm always just so tired and depressed. I'm so ready to have warmth and greenery outside again.

I live in a cave so I have tons of grow lights up this year in my livingroom. So much nicer for mood having the brightness. I have also been collecting small vintage pots from ebay. Planning on cactus and succulents this spring. I live deep in the Midwest so it has been very cold and my house is bermed so not many windows. My best window is north facing and I live on the edge of a forest so I can't see the sun much even if it is out. Daydreaming of spring so I can play out in my rock garden and hear my chickens make their happy it is warm again sounds!
Thank you for teaching me about making my own soil mix. I am an oerwaterer so now my mix works with me instead of against me.

I love doing the butterfly method in spag for “string of” plants. It’s much slower but I think it gives a more stable plant. Plus if you do it in soup containers it’s super easy to pot up!

I totally understand where you're coming from with the lack of sun. It affects me a lot too in the winter. So happy to have spring here now. And it's amazing how much more energy I have now. Sometimes I just step outside my house just to breathe in the air. Nothing like a mix of sun, plants and ocean air to make me feel better. (I live in a beach/vacation town)

With succulent leaf propagations usually you need to snap it off the vine leaving no bit attached because its the very tip that roots up. So since you cut it with scissors that part is probably left on the vine and so it's unlikely to root. Good luck though x

With my string of hearts I've had very good results with propagating in the same pot (it's growing too fast so I don't worry about it going wrong).
I've had good results when thickening the plan with just taking a 2 knode cutting, cutting of the leaves of the bottom knode. The poke a hole with a sate stick in the soil, put the knode as deep in there as it will go and just tuck the soil. Don't know the failure rate, but I'm guessing I've trippled my string of hearts in a year.

    Loved your video as usual.
    Ohh your poor Jade plant
How sad 😢 it was so beautiful but the upside to this is that you had lots of cuttings from it and will grow to be bushier.
All your plants are just so beautiful they really are
Love what your plans are for this year and making your plants bushier.
Aww Fern I feel your pain honestly, that is why I have not commented lately as this time of year my depression gets worse and my illness and pain, as I am sure I have told you I live in England so always raining or snowing and sometimes both Lol
Before my mum passed away we both moved to Fuerteventura (Canary Islands)
As the temperature year round is great lots of sun.
But Mum missed home so we came back so I am trying to get back there but it is not so easy being on your own with Multiple Sclerosis but I am trying hard.
Why not consider moving somewhere hot for yourself as you mentioned it in one of your recent vids. It’s not easy but it would help you with your mental health. Try and keep your chin up, I know it is easier said than done.
Hey it is nearly spring and that is something to look forward to Yay

Dear Fern, you are such a beautiful soul. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve turned to you for solace when I’m struggling. I have SAD and Anxiety. My best resources are journaling, meditation, dance/movement, breath-work, plant care, making ‘bad’ art, singing, and getting outside as much as possible... even if the weather is blah. Mostly I self care as a solo endeavor because I tend to forget to connect with friends. A good laugh or heartfelt talk with a girlfriend usually does wonders. Oh and one last suggestion... shake things up and try something totally new! I just started a pottery class so I can make some of my own planters. It’s messy and foreign and it allows me to connect deeply in the present moment. Try not to be hard on yourself for struggling. A good cry is cathartic! xoxo

Fun fact: To get roots to grow faster, put them in dark colored bottles.
Second hand shops should have some cheap little bottles or you could cover the clear glass ones with black or purple.
It's really hot here in NZ....like 33 plus Celsius.
I usually do my plant stuff in the evening when it's cooler.
If your blues are really making you down and tearful, try some vit D.
It's a natural supplement that you can get from a pharmacy (and usually absorbed into our skin from the sun's rays, during the summer months.
That's why it's called the winter blues.)
But only take one tablet in the morning as directed.
Time will fly especially making these great vlogs.
Cheers, Jo (nurse and plant lover) in NZ.

I piled my SOP all on top and now they are impossible to untangle 🤦🏾‍♀️ I propagated some earlier this week but now watching you cut yours up, I want to completely chop and prop mine…oh boy!

Hi Fern, I'm going to be doing the same thing this weekend because like you, I'm so ready for Spring! We don't have too to go, so let's keep busy preparing for sunshine and lots of new growth! 😍😍🌷🌻🐝🐞🌼🌴

I love seeing propagating being done. I just did my SOH and Scindapdus Moonlight and Exotica. Fingers crossed they root never did these before.

Wow chopping that entire jade was so brave. I recently had a jade get root rot I cut off the dead part and actually put it in Leca and it started growing roots a few weeks later. Jades can be tricky sending good energy ✨

The first plant looks like string of the turtles 🐢 the dark green foliage and succulent type leaves and patterns. The string of hearts looks like the variegated one without the variegations. I love the trailing jade was so hard seeing that one being chopped up i love it when is full and trailing. I have never came across this plant before. The Hoya Obovata one of my wishlist plant the variegated one is also gorgeous. I have never done propagations before i be too scared cutting up a plant and end up doing nothing. I probably would just trim a tiny bit to give it to someone and they can root it themselves. Surprised you didn’t cut up your Hoya Compacta that one is growing so long.

I have a golden pot his named Gretchen and it’s one of my most loved and largest plants. It’s was my first plant other than a succulent that I got during quarantine and I’ve propagated and seen so much from her it’s crazy~~~ it started my plant craze💜💖😂

the SAME EXACT thing is happening to my trailing jade!! It’s been fine for 2+ years and I know I didn’t overwater it, but all of a sudden all of the vines just started slowing falling off 😩 I’m glad it roots so easily in water so I can save it still 🤞🏼

I love this type of video. The best tip was to water plants prior to cutting for propagation. I never knew that would be of benefit. Going forward I will be sure to do this. I am glad you untangled your SOH. I was getting a bit anxious with the strings all in a ball😉 The sun finally came out where I live today; even though it was-25F windchill the sun was nice to see.

This was nice. I was able to do some re-potting and propping of my own while watching. Ohhhh that string of hearts! I miss mine so much-i gave it away last spring when I moved and I have regrets. I haven’t been able to get my hands on another one yet. Maybe this summer. I love just winding them around the top of the pot and having a plant that looks full.
It’s so cold and windy and snowy here today. It’s been snowing since November so I hear ya on the weather.

I don't know if that's your case, but some of my succulents look similar to your trailing jade. Most of ly succulents are kept outside and get a lot of direct sun, but I tried a pot inside, and it's not as forgiving in case of overwatering. I let go of trying to get succulents inside, and have put the pot back out, it seems to strat growing again. Fingers crossed your trailing jade gets better

I honestly don’t want it to be sting yet! You’re actually really lucky to live in a place that is rainy/snowy. I live in the dessert and it’s so dry and we have had almost NO rain this winter and zero snow so our air is SO dry and it’s still been sunny every day so I’ve been watering my plants like crazy so it would actually be nice to have a rainy cold gloomy season

My Trailing jade did the exact same thing. It was thriving all summer getting long and full and then boom it just started to decline. And every time I check it more leaves have rotted and fallen off.
