RECIPE TRIED AND TRUE! I added one de-seeded jalapeno, half onion, 4 cloves garlic and 1 ham hock from The Fresh Market. My instant pot didn't have the same markings in the pot, so i put water up to the 7.5 cup mark to one pound of beans. 45 min, but i will have to make it 5 mins less and immediately release the pressure next time. My critical spouse said these were legit. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. This is literally a marriage saver. Hahahhahahahaha
Oooo I'm SOOOO HAPPY to hear this. I'll try the ham hock next time too! If you wanna make really good refritos he'll like fry an onion sliced up till its caramelized then fry the beans in the oil with the onion. Then mash them. Never fails for a happy Mexican hubby over here. I have a Playlist labeled "authentic Mexican cooking" on my channel. Check it out! I only post authentic recipes that he says are legit perfect too lol. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries before its post worthy. But this is exactly why I made my channel. To help other spouses of Hispanic men/women cook the food they love. My hubby has no family here that cooks so unfortunately I'm on my own. Make him my recipe for Carne en su Jugo! It uses these beans and it's like... a steak stew kinda. Hugs from Chicago. You made my day!
Oh my these are perfect. What a difference adding that half onion makes. After a few times making these I’ve cut the salt down to about half and they are perfect for my taste. This last pot I added a clove of garlic and forgot the salt (oops) they still are good. They make such yummy refried beans too. I’ll just mash them up in a pan then cook of the extra water till they are the right consistency. Thank You so much for making this video.
It really makes a difference right! Even in the IP. I find that yes... it can cook them dry. But you end up with either mush beans or little uncooked bits and lots of gas. Thanks for stopping by!

I just set my "beans" button to the number of minutes I want. I think its like 50 minutes in this video for beans that aren't soaked. Soaking the beans they are done in like 20 min! Check out my instant pot Playlist. The Tuscan chicken pasta is so good and so easy! Thanks for watching!
I have an issue with the valve when I closed the lid, the release button has to be up or down because steam is coming out from the steam release valve regardless it is up or down. Thanks for your videos they have helped me learning to use the pot.
Lubet, when its coming to pressure it should be down. Make sure you turn the valve to seal. When it is to pressure it should be up. If your pot is malfunctioning call instant pot. They need to seal well to be safe! Im so happy you are enjoying my videos. Have a great day.
Well a couple of observation, the baby was crying in the background because, quiere frijolitos, and mi madre was told me just to let la olla stem came out for itself because if you open de release valve los frijolitos, salen partidos, good video well explained, thanks for sharing
Thank for sharing☺️ I just got mine and it just occurred to me to make them in there rather than wait 3 hrs and checking for the water. What time would you give them without soaking them please ?
I usually do like 60 minutes. I prefer very soft beans for making frijoles chinos when I cook them without soaking. I've heard, through comments, that they can be cooked faster when soaked than the time I suggest. But its all relative to what you and your family like! But an hour should be good!
Hi. First time Instant Pot pinto beans. 2 cups unsoaked beans, 8 cups hot water, 2 tablespoons salt, teaspoon oil, 35 minutes high, natural depressurization. Came out perfect!
After they are done and you open the lid, what is that blackish stuff on the sides ? Is it just residue. I’m wondering because I saw the same in mine after I cooked beans.
I don't have an Instapot, just an old-fashioned pressure cooker but I'm pretty sure this recipe works for pan on the stove, pressure cooker and instapot, just tweak the time and temp. Thanks for your video... it is on my list for pinto bean ideas as I was looking for Mexican pinto bean soup. I subbed and will look👀 through your videos.😋
Yes Anna! You can boil them in water for 2 hours, add salt, and boil an extra half hour for the same results. I'm not sure how to use the stove top pressure cooker but it for sure will have the same results as the instant pot if you know how to use one. Thanks for checking out my channel! I hope you enjoy my recipes!
On the paper given with the instant pot it says if they are soaked it's only 6-9 minutes on high pressure and unsoaked it's about 40ish minutes. I know you soaked your beans and put 40 minutes, should I still do 40 minutes? I have a duo mini that holds 3 quarts
I dont think there is any way possible they'd be cooked in 9 minutes. They come out perfect at 40 every time for us... but if you try it at 6-9 let me know how it goes!
I hope they are good. I’m gonna make it. I really love simple Mexican pinto beans. You sound like you know your sh*t. I’m gonna look at more of your videos...

Just made some in the Instant Pot Duo Plus. 1 pound of beans cleaned and rinsed with 8 cups of water. Threw in a peeled and halved onion with about a teaspoon of salt. Setting for chili, added time for a total of 50 minutes. Turned out delicious. But, garbage... I can't call that onion garbage... lol. All 3 parts were delicious; beans, onion, and bean water - doesn't sound the best, but it's good.
All 3 parts are delish. We serve the beans and the water in a bowl and top them with cilantro, freshly chopped onion, and a squeeze of fresh lime. So delish. Those are traditional frijoles de la olla!
Have you ever used like a beef broth or chicken broth for added flavor instead of water? I've only tried making beans a few times but I felt like they lacked flavor every time.
I've added chicken bouliion powder! But never broth. Try adding a jalapeno with just a slit in it to the mix I mentioned. Then when frying them for refried beans you can fry an onion in the oil before you mash them. Its sooooo delish. U can add butter or sour cream and mix it in too for richness!
@@damarisloera915 ask away girl! But if you're using a crock pot and not an instant pot itll have to cook all day. Confirm for me which one ur using! I'm happy to help.

I want to buy an Instant Pot so you pressured cook them for 45 minutes then you wait or do the release right away ? I don't understand when some people are saying after you pressure cook then give it five more minutes then do the release I don't understand.
Everyone does it different. I guess if you choose to cook a food for less time the natural release allows for it to steam... like in rice and stuff? I rarely wait for the pressure to go out...
