  • In this video, Ted continues to teach the concept of single line soloing as it is applied to the song “Besame Mucho”. This is part 2 and the conclusion of this guitar lesson. Video Credits: Cesar Pineda 01/20/97
Here it is April already, no fooling! Ted continues in some serious discussion/demonstration of what makes up a better single line solo over a jazz standard. Ted refers to Wes Montgomery a few more times in this segment. Ted concludes this lesson by saying, “There is so much guitar to know, I mean, nobody had an idea when we first started! We learn a scale, we don’t realize how many beautiful things are hiding in the scale.” Amen, brother!
Here’s a brief summary for part two:
    1. Playing with a triplet feel, four note groups.
    2. Chord tone stacks (skipping every other note in the scale).
    3. Ted mentions ‘sweeps’ [ala Frank Gamble] -“ … like turkeys gobbling in Dorian!”
    4. Ted suggests to change the meter from 3/4 to 4/4 to allow for more time to solo.
    5. Enter the melodic minor.
    6. 7th augmented arpeggios.
    7. Combing arpeggios with scale tones.
    8. Experiment playing intervals (5th, 6ths, etc.).
To my subscribers: YES, there are more to come!
Ted uses many ideas from his “Single Line Soloing” books. Lesson sheets on soloing and melodic patterns to practice can all be found at tedgreene.com/

@Nick Stasinos... I cannot thank you enough for sharing the videos of your lessons with Ted Greene. It's so generous of you to allow those of us who never had a chance to study with the Chord Chemist himself to have a closer look into his musical world. I think you sharing these seems to be in alignment with Ted's ideas on sharing musical knowledge. Not everyone can afford private lessons or tuition to study at college or university. Thanks so much 🙏 ✌😉🎼🎶🎸

Nick, thank you so much for posting this series of videos. They are extremely useful when looking at Ted's unique approach, especially through his breaking down the work of another master like Wes. As ever, I suspect that these videos will help countless guitar players open up to some of the possibilities on the instrument. BTW, he seems like such a humble and self-effacing man - Viva Ted Greene!

Somewhere in time (pertaining to guitar people) I came up with a saying... "Ego and talent, someone with little of one usually has a lot of the other"... I often give the example of Ted Greene, one of the most talented and ego-less people I have ever met.

Mark Harris, according to Barbara, his beloved partner in life, Ted didn't believe in charging too much for his lessons, mainly in the name of sharing knowledge and making the world a better place through music.
Also, he believed sharing his knowledge should be something affordable to the common fellow and never make him stand apart unreachable...
I wish I had had the privilege to have studied with him...
      A true humble master!
