fishmans are so fucking awesome, it's this amazing little corner of pop culture that nobody in the western world knows about, quite possibly one of the best kept secrets in music
yeah. didn't even really know about them until last month, and on my first listen of long season it instantly became one of my favorites. definitely a masterpiece.
how is the literal FAR EAST, west? And I wouldn't call them unknown, but try asking anybody in the US or wherever if they've heard of Fishmans. Even on websites dedicated to underground music such as RYM, they only have a couple thousand ratings.
Mostly people didn’t know that…1997 07 04 Fishmans and Pavement are performed in Shibuya Quattro.I still have the poster.Fishmans played Long Season in 45 mins.Stephan Malkmus and other members, They were staring at Fishmans in silence…..I saw the live of Pavement
@@sagafor11 i think you may have misread something i wrote, we're both making the same point. nobody knows Fishmans in the west. although they have more spotify monthly listeners than Swans and the biggest youtuber likes them (not a fan of him but still) so maybe they're getting kinda well known relatively
The Fishmans performed with Pavement at Shibuya Quattro,Tokyo in 1997. Same as this video. Pavement ,they all bought “Long Season “and albums. There was also a chance to debut from overseas labels. It is very disappointing…… The poster from that time is still displayed in my room…..
of course Long Season in its entirety is beyond this world, but i love at the very end where Kin-Ichi grabs Yuzuru and points to him playfully for the audience since Yuzuru was leaving the band, meanwhile Shinji runs off stage quickly, likely emotional from the applause. you can tell everyone involved was seriously in it for the music, and you can see their go-lucky attitudes about their group in that short 30 seconds at the very end of the video. feels almost candid, and especially surreal thinking they had no idea of Shinji's passing just a few months later. stuff like this is reason enough to change your profile picture to 98.12.28 out of admiration. you'll never convince me this isn't the best song ever
Agreed!!! Have you seen the Fishmans movie that's in the works? It looks incredible, and from the trailer ive seen of the photos of the group, they really did seem to be such a happy group of guys
@@thenyquilchannel8738 i know im late but i absolutely love watching motegi in all their live performances. anytime he was playing the drums he just looked like he was having the absolute time of his life, and his smile lit up the whole stage.
I've shed many tears over this song and Shinji Sato, a man I've never met. I know it sounds all hippy dippy but art is a means of communicating across our usual restrictive cultural boundaries. You can glean so much meaning out of this one song.
It's midnight now, new years eve. I set a wish for myself few years back that i would listen to 'hana ichi monme' on the transition moment of every year untill i forget and just some moment ago i kept my promise for this year. Just after, i started this live album and writing this while this waves are colliding in my ear. Though i have listened to fishmans plenty before, in the last seven days I've played 'long seasons' over countless times. Hope i can get back to this comment next year.
33:33... Laughing, jubilating, when hearing the record for the for the first time, after driving for about two hours, and I realize that Fishmans still want to give more! Just don't wanna stop!... And I just love those electric violin notes resonating in space, and syncing with the electric guitar beginning at 32:02! Long Season is just full of those extatic moments!

Was this at the old Liquid Room in Shinjuku? I saw Fishmans there sometime in 1998, I believe it was. It was a highlight of my close to 2 decades in Japan -- a truly memorable concert.

One of music's best kept secrets, which is a shame because this song and performance has the power to solve world peace
this is so true. we have to spread the message. maybe we will be called crazy haha but it will make resonance in the right people.
Keep it a secret. Please.

The electric guitar and violin at 32:02 it's the best thing ever
Kinda sad this only has 80k views. The World is missing out on amazing music.
Very cool Bass Yuzuru Kashiwabara. Thank you Honzi, thank you Shinji Sato, thank you Kin-ichi Motegi.
The single greatest live show I have ever seen. Wish I could have been there.
