It'd be awesome to see all the bats spray painted the same color so the batter doesnt know which is which. Bias cannot be discounted so it'd be cool to see a blind study.
Completely agree. “This it’s denser wood …. ‘It ‘seems like’ “.
I’d like that
You’ll definitely still feel weight and balance. Once contact is made you can tell grain. As long as the were painted where you can still see the grain to hold it right you won’t break it at bp speeds. These guys were generating their own power based on swing and the density / pop of the various models.
I liked the video.
I did a unbiased study of something similar to this in junior high for a science fair project. I made a contraption on a clay pigeon thrower to have even swings and the ball was placed on a T. The bats all hit the sweet spots. It was a fun experience as a kid. Ironically now I’m a scientist not in physics lol.
the problem with that is they have to know which bats are which so they know what they are ranking where, and also the ash bats need to have labels so they can hit off the correct side and not break them
The crack of a wooden bat hitting a baseball is one of the best sounds in the world 😊
Not the $30 bats....those cracks dont even sound right.
@@Pyro978 wooden or metal, what sounds better?
@@caydenrgarrett wood, no question
@@inwhichidie7171 that's what I figured

There is nothing like the sound of a wooden bat.

Or a GE90-115B at full tilt
The sound maple makes off the bat is heavenly lol can definitely tell the difference just by sound
Many years ago players mostly used hickory I think? I wonder how they sounded compared to maple.
From England and have never swung a bat in my life, why do i find this so interesting haha
Hahaha the sound of the bat is satisfying.
Hello Conner! Baseball is America's pastime, but we dont knoe why either..
Just kidding it's a great sport, super fun to play..
Best wishes from Los Angeles, California..
yeah ,it sucks.
i wish there was few bat cages around.(UK)
I tried once when travelled to west Asia but knew nothing about good batting stance
Well damn what does limeys usually swing cricket bats the ole leather on willow sound more than one Limey has told me nothing sounds sweeter than leather on willow before lol I said oh yes it does the sound of my 308 or 300 wsm mag sounds more like thunder lol
I'm from the US but don't play baseball... But I agree with you! There's something just intriguing about the game 👍
You guys should do a historic wood bat challenge. Swing something that maybe Ruth , DiMaggio, Mantle, Williams or Aaron would have swung. Does anyone make pro stock ash anymore?
That would be cool but probably expensive
@@grimreaper4453 just become a patron and pony up the $ they'll do it.
Yes they still make a pro ash bat. Not as much as maple but more than you would think.
All of them swung what is for the most part an uncupped M110 that were pretty much drop 0s. The closest thing you can get to one right now without having to get a custom bat would be the Granderson Louisville Slugger bat, although it's still cupped. They're drop 1s though so it's very interesting once you get used to it. A lot of people hate them because they're used to end loaded metal bats, so I got one barely used for 40 bucks, figuring it's still an MLB Prime bat. Took me a few games to get used to it but it was a really good bat for me and never broke. I still use it as a BP bat.
@@johnfitsch7781 all of them were cupped except for the Cody Bellinger
Born and raised in Louisville, and moved back here for retirement. Proud of our bats and our baseball heritage in general. Pee Wee Reese was a neighbor. Great down to earth guy, humble as hell, and friendly. Good sports town as well. Had a brown maple Mickey Mantle model LS in Little League. The whole team wanted to use it. The store that sold them in our area had glass display cases, and had a sign " Warning $30 bucks a swing", because so many kids broke the glass trying the bat out. $30 was a lot of money in 1961, when I started Little League...
For a person who used the $30 bat consistently, I think it’s pretty good, granted I am more of a contact hitter but I’ve hit afew out with it

You’d be a slugger if you switched to the $50
@@chip7796 you really think so ! ? Genuinely curious.

I’m thinking Trout could still hit 400’ bombs with that $30 bat ....😬
But are they trout
Trout can hit dingers with a pool noodle
I mean, he hit a golf ball to the moon
it might flex and hurt his hands a lot but a 400ft bomb is still a bomb🤣
30$ is soft for a reason to help with durability and safety. The 50-100$ bats are what a “pro” could honestly use, though they would chew through those bats like back when
One of the main things I remember from my trip to Cooperstown was seeing Babe Ruth's bat. That thing wasn't a piece of a tree--it WAS the tree. I kept thinking, how in hell could a man swing such a bat. If Ruth was playing now with one of those fancy maple bats, he'd hit a thousand dingers. Cool video, guys. Thanks.
Nobody gonna talk about how he just hit a 400ft bomb

I had one and i loved it but i gotta say goodbye to it movin onto highschool ball
This reminds me of my youth playing sandlot (one of the best baseball movies) one of our friend's dad was the equipment manager for a local pro team and he would give us the extra or unused bats. It made for awesome summers. Oh to be a kid again
These videos take me back to my college baseball days. Great swings, great sound, great baseball talk. Cheers.
And keep in mind that we’re 3,000 feet higher in the air than our typical Oregon fields - the ball should be traveling about 30 feet further than usual on well-hit dingers 🤙

try out some Rawlings wood bats. I have the Rawlings hard maple pro 33" its only 40 dollars but its very sturdy and has alot of pop
The Baseball Bat Bros when will we get a 2017 CF Zen -5 video?
What about the y271
Can y’all do some B45 bats?
I’m looking any getting a new bat and don’t know much about these
For people who say the bat dosent matter, you are wrong
Never heard the price of the bat doesn't matter.
I didn’t say that
30 dollar bat works great in the backyard (and I'm 14) but I guess I'd never touch one if I was rich
I've watched great batters with different bats, that aren't in the pocket of the companies, and they hit long homeruns no matter what bat they were using. Keep in mind too that these bats are not worth $150. The companies just trick parents into thinking they are worth that money. Same thing exists for hockey sticks.
To be honest, it deffinitely depends on the person using the bat.
My kids have grown, and I have no interest in bats, but I watched your whole video on a Sunday morning! Great production, I really enjoyed it.
in a empty stadium those bats sound epic... even judging from sound quality, the "big league wood" is a noticable difference from the cheaper bats. cool vid btw
My uncle got a Louisville bat cane they put a handle on top and rounded the bottom off and put rubber on it he is so proud of his cane , he has been a baseball fan for his whole life taught his kids , grandkids, and has a great granddaughter playing on a traveling softball team.

Cant believe they are outside in that kind of weather at all. I've passed out from heat stroke a dozen degrees cooler, i cant imagine 105°. Mind you it gets down to about -40°C where im from. Different strokes, i guess...

When I played in high school my favorite bats were Adirondack maple bats. A friend's father that had played pro ball gave me a bat to try. It was a white ash bat. I had hit with several white ash bats but I didn't like the way the ball felt coming off the bat. This bat was different though, by far the best feeling bat I had ever used. After HS ball was over we could play in as many different leagues that we wanted to. This bat lasted 3/4 of a season and including HS and all the other league games, about 80-85 games. I broke it on a curve when I expected a fastball. I kind of cue balled it off the end of the bat. It crushed me. I never could find another bat like that one. After I broke it, I went back to maple.
I've got an old school M9 Maple L.S. I LOVE THAT BAT!! Had it for years, still in great shape!

This was the first time I saw your video, and I have no idea of who you are, but you guys are amazing.
Not only is it very informative but also you guys are pretty good hitters.
Great video! I’ve got an oak that an Amish guy made for me back home in WI. Obviously not a game bat because it’s ridiculously heavy, but all sorts of fun in BP or when people just want to see the ball go far from an absolute sledgehammer of a bat
Ayyy bat bros coming in clutch for my entertainment 🤗
I used the 5 series when I was first getting into wood bats, it’s a great introduction bat.
I recently got that $50 bat for Christmas because of this video. And I will say well that is a good bat, The finish on it is not very good, it frequently stains both my practice equipment and various balls.
Did also break on a 50-ish mph pitch, now I knew it was going to break but it broke within like the first two weeks or so I got it. If you want to go wood, go maple.
I have the 7 series Louisville slugger, it’s very enloaded and I wouldn’t think it’s worth getting it. It’s harder to swing and you have to hit in a specific spot. There’s cheaper bats out there that will be more balanced and have the same pop. For me I’m a contact power guy who’s not the strongest guy and I have to time my swing very early in order to get barrel.
Regardless of bat quality, there is nothing else in the world I’d rather hear than that crack of the bat when it hits the ball.
Crack of a WOOD bat. I can't STAND that "ding" in college.
I really enjoy your vids. Not joking, Trace has one of my favorite swings I've seen, and Will, bro, altitude comment aside, you weren't playing around in this one. 😂👏🏼 Fire video, guys. 🔥
I was just about to comment on his swing. It is a thing of beauty.
This was awesome. Excellent review, better hitting.
Baseball was my life for a dozen + years in the seventies and eighties...Have paid minimal mind in the ensuing decades, except the Red Sox and series victories.
Moving to Louisville and seeing the factory in nineties was an experience.
Dont even play or know anything about baseball and this video was a joy to watch
Love the video, thanks. Now, though, I'm wondering how much variability you'd see from one bat to the next in the same series. Are the more expensive bats more consistently good, perhaps?
Movin On Up!
I can’t wait to see these guys in a MLB Ball Park.
The crisp sounds of batting practice in an empty ballpark... beautiful.
Great video! Super helpful. I want more stuff like this. Gloves, mitts, cleats, pads, helmets, balls...etc. Do them all!
Not a baseball guy myself, but the sound of the bats cracking is super satisfying.
This, the sounds alone are perfect
I had the 3 series in my adult league this summer and it lasted exactly 17 games. For $30 it went the distance for me for sure and it never hurt my hands (don't wear gloves either)... this tells me my swing speed must be shit lol But thanks to this I'll for sure upgrade next year.
u guys r so underrated u r in my option the best bat review channel on youtube
That sound gets the juices flowing again
Rip to the las Vegas 51’s
That 30 dollar ash bat was a piece of garbage, it literally broke after 5 rounds of bp for me
Mine broke to
That’s why it’s dirt cheap for a bat
@@lucas15. exactly, I should have never bought it
@Zayyir Wells you know that a wood bat is bad when you can find it in Fred Meyer and Walmart
I wasted my money on the $30 Louisville this weekend, 4 hours after I got it and 5 barreled balls into it
No idea how I got here ! I was watching "recommend" selections like "Fun Crafts With Macaroni", "Science Experiments For Toddlers", "Winning Strategies For Tic-Tac-Toe", and "Andes Goat Herding For Novices", then THIS came up ! ... And I'm sure glad ! Great video of a really cool head to head comparison, that was fun to watch. Thanks for sharing !
I just experienced similar results...i am 64 and still playing...always used cheep bats...bought a 55 dollar bat and the vibration was totally different. .i know i hit some grounders in the hole and it was a solid difference!
I was lucky to get three 7 series maples for 30 bucks each last year. I have a LS prime bat and honestly I like the 7s better when it comes to games.
Imagine paying $300 for a Carbon fibre hockey stick just for it to break every 2 weeks that’s the reality of a hockey player

TBH I’m not a huge baseball fan but that sound of the wood bat is unmistakable! Interesting video too especially when some of the middle bats are priced similar...great job guys
Awesome that you recorded at our Las Vegas Ballpark here in Las Vegas! Love that stadium.
I played in an adult wood bat league for a few years I would say stay away from the cheap bats. They will crack easily and you will be constantly replacing them. The center of gravity on maple bats seemed to be closer to the end of the barrel and it felt like it allowed for more bat speed and more pop. The maple seems to fatigue after a number of hits and will eventually break. I kept a bat for games only and a practice/backup bat. The professional ash models are very resistant to breaking.
I dunno, dude. Pitched for a long time in wood bat leagues. I broke a number of hitter's bats and I didn't have anything overpowering or anything like that. Absolutely agree with your assessment of Maple and Ash. As a hitter, I was a slap hitter. Bunt and run. High OBP, but no power to speak of. My short swing didnt lend itself to breakage, so didnt break many. Keep safe and well.
The 30 dollar bat is actually great for the price. At least from my experience. I haven’t played serious in a few years but I still love to hit. Thing is perfect for what I use it for. Just BP and it didn’t break the bank
Love that you guys can actually hit... well done
This really makes me nostalgic! I miss baseball! This is what being an American 🇺🇸is all about! Going to the field and just hitting and throwing a baseball!

The stock mlb prime is still nothing like a real MLB pro issue bat.
Yep, they really get the cream of the crop. Can't buy that kind of quality.
@@sntslilhlpr6601 I have a couple pro bats from a gift from a pro player and these bats really are so different. There are much less grains in pro bats and the finish is wildly more hard, + the bat models have bigger barrels than the normal ones from off the shelf.
My first time using a wood bat in a game i was 13 years old in 13 14 yo league. At that time all kids used al6minum. I had a wood bat i swung on deck cause it made my aluminum feel lughter faster and more control . But this kid ed pangan had a no hitter against us going ane i was up with 2 outs in 7th , 7vinning game at age 13 . I said what the heck and used my louisville slugger willie mays edition and damn that wood sounded nice ripping a line drive into gap between left and center. Idk why but i still feel guilty about ruining the kids no hitter last out. Never wore a batting glove in life no matter how cold or what bat . Never used batting glove on catching hand niether and caught for 2 guys that threw 95 one a senior hs other in legion ball . Played til 38 years old . Guys like ted williams never wore batting glove i dont believe thier necessary if you not soft . Maybe cause i did masronry since 12 years old
“This is gonna be a big league stadium one day”…. Looks like that might be true!
The algorithm brought me here and I don't even play baseball. But the sound of a well hit HR really is undeniable.
those $25 bats are my favorite, if you dont square up you pay the price, taught me good dicipline
Makes sense since you don’t really want to dish out more money to buy another one. Not much of a price but it’ll add up
It’s an amazing day when bat bro’s, foolish baseball and mlw wiffle ball upload a video
I've never played much baseball, but that sound is just beautiful.
This reminds me about my younger self back in the 1970s my friends and I had a sandlot of ourselves and one of our friends had a connection to a local professional baseball teams his uncle was the equipment manager and he would get some of extra bats that we would use, we would have more bats than we needed. It was à wonderful time. Ok how many do you remember when bat day was really bat day when kids would get real bats.
Y’all should do a marrucci wooden bat comparison
Or victus
True
What about them? They’re all the exact same grade of wood and suit certain players differently. To swing an AP5 just because someone on the internet told you it feels better for them is just not smart dude.

Just for fun you should do another one of these but blind test the bats. Get some different hitters who haven't done this before and give them a bunch of pitches with each bat spray painted black. Have them rank them accordingly. I bet there would be some surprises in there, the placebo effect is always a factor in these.
Regardless of the bat, watching this was so satisfying
You should get a few Rawlings blem bats and rate and compare them
I ordered 6 blem bats off eBay $20 a piece. Two are great, two are total logs and the other two fall in-between. So far they've all lasted longer than any "good" bat I've bought in a store. I want to cup the heavier ones to see if that helps.

I just bought the $30 bat to give myself some reps in the cage. At 38 yrs old, I can still hit the ball but it’s mostly for fun. Hopefully I can get into the 18+ leagues again so I can play alongside my son on the left side of the diamond with him. It’s been 8 yrs since I played with the young kids. Played Catcher for the first time at 30 and the pitcher threw 92+.... wow what a helluva experience!!! I hope these kids take their skills to the SHOW!!!! They can def hit a ball. I only faced 90+ cpl times in my yrs of playing & it isn’t hard once you get used to it. It’s the curveballs, sliders and other junk that’s gets ya ....
best bat i’ve still ever swung is chandler, plus that logo is absolutely gorgeous
I want to see the nox vs cat 9 because they are both Basically Marcci 2 Pieces
That already did it. It’s in the cat 9 video it’s like halfway through the video
Armando Cebreros they never said which one was better
Lucas On CoD they gave their opinions on each. They said the nox was a little lighter swinging and not as much juice. The cat9 was heavier but had peak dingers 🤑
But did they say what was the better bat overall?

There's something about the sound of a great strike on a wooden bat that gets me all cuddly inside. LOL. Love that sound!
I don't play baseball and I found this really entertaining.
My coach handed down his “prized bat” to me in high school when I had nothing for equipment. I still have it and let me tell you they don’t make bats like the older ones. The newer ones are solid but just not worth the price tag
"I'm doing somebody else's stance for godsake" 😂😂😂
I used to use the 3 series for bp and aluminum for games. Taught me to hit off the sweet spot more consistently.
Got myself one of the $110 Louisville standard pro cuts you can get at Dick’s last year. It may not be a special player cut, but it’s still bang for your buck. Good swing weight and a real satisfying crack sound from the sweet spot. 💖❤️
