      What I wish would become the norm is great action in octaves that can be reliably tightly attached to each other. Great action is heavy, but why should we have to carry 8 octaves at once, give my a main board with the buttons knobs and sliders, say, 4 or 5 octaves, then go\I’ve me keyboard modules in octaves to then add on, making the carrying weight actually manageable. The best transportable weighted keyboards are a pain as of now.

    I have the previous grand stage. It has great weighted keys and a few nice features. Great electric pianos and synthesis too. I personally didn't want a big flashy screen, as I wanted something more focused on the playing vs sounds design. Things that I don't like? It had memory to load banks but no banks were released, no aftertouch, no midi out for many of the controls -making it very limited with other devices, and the stand is solid but looks very odd. No loopback audio or USB midi either... I hope that they fixed some of this on this one!

      Quite agree. All these years and nobody has produced a keybed that feels or behaves remotely like a piano (and I have that Kawai MP11 thing) - they all feel like wading through rubber to me.

    • @davidseymour6246

    • @davidseymour6246
      @davidseymour6246 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@thegood9 The funny thing is...in my opinion what we need is the action of an upright piano rather than trying to copy a grand (something like a Yamaha U1 would be perfect I'd say). The grand action has advantages when you are actually dealing with hammers hitting strings, but if you just want a controller for electronic use you want a nice agile and light action that still has the feel and subtlety of an acoustic piano. I am lucky enough to teach every day on a modern Steinway Model B grand, but for writing and improvising I almost prefer the feel of a good Yamaha upright. Maybe it's just me but there is something almost more inspiring in playing a 'more straightforward' action. The grand action has to deal with lifting the hammers up against gravity (unlike the upright of course), but there's no reason to build that disadvantage into a keyboard that doesn't even need hammers.

    • @thegood9
      @thegood9 8 месяцев назад

      @@davidseymour6246 you may be onto something there---but, I've NEVER found an upright that could do repetition to match a grand, sad to say. I think they just don't have the mechanism for it. That's not to say that a really well built "hybrid" controller couldn't be manufactured to do it, however.

  • @halcyo
    @halcyo 8 месяцев назад +7

    Why is the back so huge?! lol I thought maybe it had real hammers in there like in the old Kawai MP 9000 piano. That would've been cool. I'm not really sure why you'd want all that bulk back there otherwise.

    So this is the Grandstage SV2, then. Looks gorgeous, but my worry is it's another preset machine, like the Grandstage, which had almost no sound design capability, just a lot of (very nice-sounding) presets. The effects here seem taken from the SV2 but there doesn't seem to be master effects like flangers, distortion etc., just reverbs and delays (can you at least use BOTH reverb and delay, unlike on the SV2 and Grandstage?) Think I'll be sticking with my lovely YC-88.

If there is one complaint I have, I seriously hope you did not go with the 12$ oled monochrome display you use in all your Modwave/wavestate series, because those are prone to bugging out after a year or so of constant use, they're flawed. And if you did, this is gonna bite later on, just a heads up.

    Looks gorgeous and sounds great. Some weird hardware choices though. No USB C and DIN style MIDI ports make this something circa 2005. Also, why such a small screen. Screens are dirt cheap and I’m sure this is a premium priced product. On the more positive side, I think the inclusion of the nu-tube could be a game changer for vintage sounds and the optional legs look perfect. I can see this replacing the venerable Nord as the stage piano of choice.

    Still haven't seen a stage piano that outperforms my RD-2000 on action and features. Waiting for NAMM....

    This keyboard *wishes* it looked as good as the SV-2. I mean it looks good, definitely some similar design elements as the SV-2. The SV-2 just looks better IMO.
    Granted, the SV-2's sound engine is a bit more niche so these aren't really aimed at the same audience.

    The XLR out is a great addition. Which more boards did this. I am not a fan of those cheap sliders on the panel. I would expect that on a cheap keyboard. Really surprised Korg went with that design on this.
