Just tried to clean mine, achieved only 70% of the job after using 1 can of EGR cleaner and 2 cans of brake cleaner. Got most of the gunk and chunk of carbon deposits out, but I'm gonna go at it again sometime soon until it's as clean as yours! Gonna try a different product and if that doesn't work, gonna dump the sucker into some gasoline for 12 hrs or so :) Ok, that felt good. Now I can move on with my life.
What type of tools do you use ? I mean the size. For example the 4screws you take off to remove the egr it is 15mm ? Sorry for asking i dont have many tools
perfect! thank you! I'm feeling hesitation on my car especially on road climb, i suspect EGR and MAF may be the culprit, should there be any sorts of errors on this regard? Cuz mine doesn't have any
dosquest Even if there is no error regarding the EGR valve it should be checked periodically, because carbon deposits build up continuously which will affect engine performance. You should take off the hose that comes from the intercooler and connects to the EGR and check for deposits.
@@sabinislami8884 mine was showing it like out of 10 pedal to the metal, 8 were sticking me to the driver's seat, but 2 were like the exhaust was farting all the power out through it. Like i lost the boost somewhere, and im doing 3500 rpm... When i cleaned the egr it was gone. My friend got a completely clogged egr with this black shit, and his egr was stuck open. The hot fumes made a hole in his egr cooler... He had to change it. 250$ cost for nothing, because he was lazy to clean egr every 2 years. Also it can burn the intake manifold, which is around 400$.....so....better clean it
Hello, I've cleaned the egr on my car. When i wanted to start it, it was a bit rough at first, then I accelerated a bit to 1800 rpm and the car sputtered an died. Doesn't start anymore, just cranks. Any ideas?
Gellert Gabor hi. thx for your reply. i did put the hoses back, double checked all of them.. i'm a frightened that loose dirt from te egr went into the intake and into the valves..
What he is saying is that it is an E46 chassis but a diesel engine. EGR valves were only on the diesel and would have been non-misleading or at least more accurate had the OP mentioned this in the title.

That was one of the cleanest EGR,s I've seen!
Your egr was not much dirty did it have any efect on idle when it was clean ?
thank you. The video is perfectly made, from the beginning to the end. Step by step. thanks
First use gasolin and this spray...
could you tell me what that wire is you move out the way to get egr off
well, at the end of cleaning, before he put egr back, he should put few oil drops inside that moving valve part to work properly longer time.
I noticed he didn't show him putting the bolt underneath witch is very a awkward as l have tried
can you clean it without taking the EGR unit out? like just spray the cleaner and scrub inside?
Very helpful video - thanks!
Great video thanks for taking the time 😉

Definitely not 15. 8 If I remember correctly
carsuperblog i already Did it thank you ;)
Thank you , great help . Good video.

Cool! Thanks once more, may I ask you how often this should be done?
dosquest I do it every 2 year.
+dosquest How did you get on with the hesitation problem?
I didn't eliminate it completely, however, vast improvement shown after changing return / vacuum hoses + diesel filter. Car is flying now
Thank you very much! great video!
May i know, what problems it can cause having a dirty EGR or a completely defective EGR?
The EGR function is to recirculate the exhaust gases so in time soot builds on the valve and may cause to block the valve and not to function properly
@@nextcar1549 can it reduce power?like decrease horsepower like 5-6?

Jaron Kimpe hi, did you put all vacuum hoses back into place?. if there is leaking air it won't run.

Great video
may i ask what a MAF is, thanks
Ian Carr Its a pain in the arse.
great video no goofing around I like it make more 👍
Use a bowl it's better.
next time start the car and we see whether things are set
Misleading. Thought it was petrol engine. Diesel wasn't even sold in us
This looks nothing like my e46, so is useless.
its a e46 chasis,, but diesel engine,,
lol I was wondering the same thing looked nothing like my m54. Diesel awesome
EGR's are on diesel only
This is not an e46
this car is not e 46
Then what it is? This is E46 320 diesel facelift the 110 KW engine.
johnny haddad of course it is yours is probably petrol ya dope
@@rosnol437 Do not worry about him! Johnny 100% sure :DD
may i ask what a MAF is, thanks
MAF = Mass Air Flow it is a sensor installed after the air filter the measures the air intake flow
that is not an e46
what it is then? it is an e46 320d facelift
Phaha noob
