@@Cassie00111 that's cool! The thrift shops here in my country are limited to clothes, bags, shoes, and sometimes, toys so I don't have an opportunity to donate to thrift stores.

So - sticking to smaller creators where I know they did their own designs. I would love to be one of Mark’s friends, gimme all the pink, purple, and sparkly!
I have used the Sarasa Mark On and like it but my favorite gel pen is Pentel Energel 0.5 needle point, precise, clean lines and quick dry time. My regrets would be buying cheap ink pens! I’ve gotten cute ones from Temu or a dollar store and they write horribly if at all. Just save and buy quality. Also regret cheap washi tape, the kind that won’t stick and there’s barely enough for a four page layout! 😑 You two have such great rapport. As an autistic, the Mildliners were a godsend! Highlighers always drove me up a wall. I use mine all the time. Meanwhile, I bought Tombows. And most of them have been thrown out after drying out and not being used at all. But I don't do a whole lot of drawing and coloring in my BuJo's. I use Mildliner's for weekly headers or priority tasks. When I am not using stickers. It just all depends on supply use preference.

As an adult, I started to get over my fear of writing in books (that I own), and I still never use highlighters. I still always stop and look at the mildliners whenever I see them in a store, but I know I would regret them if I bought them, so I haven't.

This was great! I love my first square‘journal’ because it was a mix media sketchbook in 2019. Just got my first square one from A&O this December. I can use the A&O for all my work. Journaling, inking, drawing, painting. They are by big brain dumps. I will say that my big regret purchase was the ephemera. My niece pointed out that, ‘all your stuff is vintage aunt Dawn!’ Sigh 😮💨

The cute ghost (not blackout) journal is one journal I have forever on my shelf. I’m sure there will be a point when it’ll get used, but I love it too much right now!

I think one thing that helps me get around the scarcity mindset is that some companies will use that as a marketing technique. I know not all companies do that but it helps me to think they do. So now I will finish a particular something then have the satisfaction if using it up and then have the satisfaction of not regretting I can't buy it again.😂
I will admit that I'm opposite to Jess. I love my mildliners especially since I found the mark on pen. I am not a fan of my tombows for journaling. I use them to color in coloring books but for my planner I'd rather use my mildliners. A part of that is I'm a writer and highlighters work well for my brain to add color both before and after I've written things down (part of why I love the mark on pens). Also I'm an inpatient lefty and the faster drying of a highlighter is very welcome.
For me it's planners. Sometimes I get tired of setting things up myself and thus I buy a planner that I'll use for three weeks (if I'm lucky) and then maybe an extra week in the next month. And stickers. I did get a little more use out of them this year with a creative project I was doing, but I don't use them in my bujo at all. But I love seeing other people using stickers and then I get a lil jelly. Favorites are my tombows and the dotmarkers! That last one is a new edition to my style, and that's Jess' fault ;) I also have a fountain pen and that's Mark's fault haha. Funny thing about the fountain pen is learning how to write with in normal writing, because my brain goes "I'm writing with a fountain pen so I have to write cursive" XD
My BIGGEST regret are the archer and olive acrylographs. I just could never get them to work cleanly. I just donated them all because they were so frustrating to me. I’m nervous about the calliographs… do they have the same issues??? 26:34 no way! I felt the same Jess! But I only got two sets before realizing that they were not for me. Haven’t reached for them in a year, so out they go. 28:42 calliographs are problematic too?! Thank goodness I haven’t tried them. 42:40 I WAS GOING TO ORDER THE WRITECH PEN, but now no way. I’m a lefty. If it hides the writing then… nope. I’ll use the extra $10 and get the majohn one.
Love my mildliners - but I also use them to watercolor. - don’t worry, won’t cancel you Lol. I much prefer the brush mildliners over chisel tips. I use lots with my stroke patients.
49:53 I have a letter opener that looks like a sword. I think your holder-crabs would be wonderful sword holders (you'd need both to split the weight of it). 😂
Yes! Acrylographs are the worst! I find they're a single use item. Drives me crazy that I go back to them and they never work. I bought my Tombow markers in color pallets because I couldn't find them sold individually and when I added up the price, I wish I would have bought the set one at a time. I have soooo many duplicates. Then I decided to buy the GellyRoll pens I bought the entire set and decided I hate them. I love stationary but sometimes I make mistakes when I try to collect.
Most art supplies I regret buying are thin papers and brush pens I outgrew of. I thought I'd use some of my used up pens and brush markers so I bough them again but I didn't because I'm trying different medium in my artworks. For notebooks, I just don't use what my family members give me coz it's mostly lined yearly planners. But when I have an opportunity to give stationery supplies, I always do and it brings me joy to share them to someone that will use these supplies.
Mine is A&O notebooks actually. They are pretty, but I hate the binding and the paper… I was absolutely convinced they would be better than LT1917 but since I don’t post online A&O just doesn’t fit my needs
Jess I most bought one of those paint brush cleaners 😂. When I do water color, I have two small jars one clean water and one dirtier or even 3 jars works best
@Mark, have you ever thought about setting up a memory journal for your kiddos? Just like special moments for you and your kiddos or like letters to them when you think of advice or something you have on your brain?
45:01 I have seen those paint water cups and I love my supplies being cute or elegant and I can't help but see a toilet or a portapotty/outhouse every time I see it. 🚽 so that's a never going to buy for me. However, for those watercolor artists that accidentally taste their paint water cup with their drink, it makes sense.
Stamps 😅 Every other year or so, I hype myself up about trying them again, and I buy ink and stamps and then... I use them for a single spread and toss them right into the buh-bye box. Someday I'll learn (...maybe) 😂
Jess, I don't use my Mildliners either! I have several of the original few sets, and I just do not use them. I much prefer using a Tombow brush pen for a highlighter. Which I also bought in the entire set immediately.
Omg! I’ve never heard of that - completionist 🤦🏻♀️. That was so completely me! I have too many TWSBI pens, A&O books, and so many colored pencil sets. Thank you, I don’t feel alone.
Oh man, learning that pointy corners was a sensory nightmare was a big life moment for me. Also, "completionism" is totally an autism symptom. I struggled for years when I didn't realize it was a symptom not a feature of my personality. So many moneys. I like my mildliners, but honestly a giant pack of Crayola supertips could have saved me so much money on highlighters and tombows.
Completionism sufferer here, I'm embarrassed to admit that I bought all the markers you mentioned, plus some sharpies I don't even have anything to use for.
I completely agree. AuDHD here. My autism self does the completionism, and my ADHD self loves to get tons of different things. Every time I see something new, bright and shiny (squirrel!) 😂. I feel like I have to get it. This definitely leads to regrets
Pointy corners are a total dealbreaker for me too!! That and lined pages, uggh gross!! I am also an autistic completionist; nice to know this is a thing! 😅
I've barely touched foot in the BuJo world, this is my first year, so I don't have too many thus far, thank fully. The one I do have is getting the Ohuhu Dual tip Markers and fine liners. Though for starting out they are reasonable in price, I have found they run out of ink way too quickly, the nibs on the duals break down, then take FOREVER to soak up enough ink to be usable again when you replace them, and the fact that you cannot buy them individually to replace the ones that have died is really unfortunate. I feel like it would be a benefit to these companies to have the ability for their customers to replace individual colors when they run out. I am NOT going to replace an entire set for just one pen. I just don't have that kind of money to spend. Thanks for sharing yours, it helps to remind me not to impulse buy too often.
I cannot stop myself from buying sicky notes, specially ones with cute designs, and I NEVER use them. Also, when I started bullet journaling, five years ago, I bough a bunch of color pens, thinking that I would do all my lines and my boxes with them... They are still sitting on my desk because it turns out I like my lines black. At some point I bought six rolls of washi dots. What was I going to use them for? I still don't know. I ended up giving them away to my planner pals. And don't get me started with the notebooks... So many notebooks... Thanks for another awesome episode!
I posted a review on Amazon about the Writech retractable fountain pen. Same issue - I'm a lefty, and as much as I want to love the pen, I can't because it doesn't work well for lefties.
I think my biggest regret is going really crazy on getting stuff after my completed BuJo. I was very minimalist when I got started, just got a notebook. Now I have quite a few supplies of stuff that I don't use and, more importantly, actually don't have space to store or at least not in a way that would be accessible. The everyday journaling needs to happen with just one pen that's clipped to my notebook, otherwise I just don't use my BuJo. At least with the A&O stuff I now decided to only get the notebooks I can order through european resellers (shipping is just too crazy), so that helps with keeping the accumulation in check. I also have a really hard time getting rid of freebies and things that I got as a present but just don't work for me...
Thanks for giving me permission to trash non working Acrylographs, I was trying to think of how to revive them 🤣. I’ve decided that the A & O tablets with a variety of paper colors are better for me because I can tear the color that I want to use rather than having a full notebook of black paper
thank you for sharing this with us Mark and Jess. I agree with you about the acrylographs. I have some I got from the PBB/A+O collab and I haven't used them since I got them. I think one of them was defective when I got them. do I regret getting them? No. Will I buy them again? Likely not. Keep up the good work guys. Again, thank you for sharing.
Agree with acrylographs & calliographs for sure! I actually regret going so hard on the 160gsm bullet journals at the start. I’ve sold and gifted a lotttt of them since getting into more fountain pen friendly paper. 🫶🏽
@@PlannerPalsPodcast Hands down: Cosmo Air Light paper notebooks (it's getting discontinued, of course -____- but Odyssey Notebooks & Paper Mind still has some). Also Papermood & Galen Leather's Tomoe River notebooks. Jess mentioned an awesome one too: the Kokuyo softringed notebook.
I loved my Frixon pens UNTIL.. I used them to label my seed packages for my garden and left the packages out in my greenhouse for 3 hrs, over 4oo packages of seeds had no names
21:50 This week I've been actively throwing out the trimmings from mine, because I have enough little snips that are "perfect" for single square oops' and bigger lengths for the big oops'. 😘
My biggest regret was a bottle of white ink. Don't remember the brand but it was from Michaels. I was starting to get into black paper journals and thought the ink with my dip pens would be really fun. But, the paper sucked up the ink like a sponge and wouldn't show up on the paper. Immediately trashed the bottle. I probably could have used it as a kind of white out but I was so mad that it didn't work that it went into the trash.
For me a regret was definitely the acrilographs from archer and olive. Beautiful but not what I wanted. Also I love the happy planet stickers but so many go unused
I don't mind the fountain pen ink because I'm using it to do small decorative work in my bullet journal or brush onto stamps for stamping. I mean why not? Its pretty and ink is ink.
I didn’t know fussy cutting was a planner thing until recently; I thought it was only for quilting 😂 I have ALL of the ClickArt pens and most of the Mildliners…and my kids love using them. I thought for sure I’d use them all the time (and I did with the Mildliners until Makselife came out with their own) but I just gravitate more toward my Tombows and Writech sign brush pens
I stopped buying the deco tape strip thingies. once they tape goes off the track, I cant get it back on. I felt like I was creating excess plastic for the landfills by not being able to use them for reasonable amount of time.
I have a small thing about the Tombow markers. I want to have all of the cool tone ones specifically. I absolutely love them, and I've been collecting them slowly through the small packs that they have. The problem is, I've started to accumulate multiples of the same color. I also realized that for certain colors in the blue, green, and purple family, they aren't all going to be in a pack so I'm going to have to buy them individually. 😞😞 I knew from the beginning that I'll be decluttering the colors I don't want from the packs, like reds and orange. I've just come to the conclusion that I should just buy the full collection, keep all the colors I want, and get rid of the rest. So much less of a headache. Then when one of my favorites runs out, I'll know the exact color to get to replace it.
42:47 does the company make a left handed person version where the drawer opens to the other side? Or a conversion? It seems like pen companies are so detailed oriented that it *should* be worthwhile for them to consider. Maybe they will even name it after you with a collab.
I love the idea of stationery trending for a moment in our lives and then passing. I think I could use that concept to curb my stationery spending in 2025 :)
My biggest regrets have always been notebooks with poor quality paper that bleeds with my fountain pens. Including Moleskines. I've learned my lesson and now I stick mainly with Rhodia and Clairefintaine.
Must be the week for knife accidents, did something stupid and cut my thumb...no need to express how much blood there was. haha Hubby wanted to drag me to the hospital an hour away and I refused and reminded him that I'm a bleeder and it'll be alright. Butterfly bandages and a wrap around it and its fine...as long as I don't take it off I'm fine. :) I have so many lower gsm books that I don't use, and I've decided I was going to give them away to the kids so they can at least do some journal work. I live on a pension so I save yearly for my archer and olive notebooks because those are the only ones I use now. And yes I agree that the Quirky Cup notebooks are not the best for me. Sharp edges means papercuts for me. haha
For me unfortunately it's the A&O calliographs. I get that it's been a while since I've gotten them but some just dry out. And I don't have that issue with for example mildliners or tombows (which I've had for about the same amount of time). I like the product itself it just sucks that I paid money for something that I couldn't really use as much as I wanted to.
So many things! I’m a collection type person which has not been good with my fountain pen journey. My biggest regrets are always FOMO related. I bought Tombows because everyone loves them. But I don’t use them. I gave my entire collection to a friend. Loved this topic! Glad I am not alone.
Stationery regret: I bought a really nice vacuum plunger pull fountain pen. I love fountain pens but refilling and cleaning this one feels so messy and awkward!

I’ll use the extra $10 and get the majohn one.
i’m intrigued by this napkin notebook you speak of!
Those ads for the brush c leaner were so tempting! I'm glad I haven't caved because it looks so bulky
Love my mildliners - but I also use them to watercolor. - don’t worry, won’t cancel you Lol. I much prefer the brush mildliners over chisel tips. I use lots with my stroke patients.
Can totally relate to collecting all the ephemera because I will use it - one day - 😂😂😂
One day……… 😂 -Mark
I am able to use the gyro cutter fairly well but prefer the slice tools or adjustable craft knives that you can use at different angles
I agree with you on the thermal printer. I bought mine and I haven’t used it and probably won’t. Gift for the granddaughter.
I have a portable thermal printer and use it to print out my headers for my bujo and then glue them in.
Can confirm that the thermal printers have now left the building 😝 Literally had someone come pick them up yesterday!
I'm so happy that I sticked to my glue sticks after what Mark said about the glue tapes! Have to admit that I had FOMO regarding that topic before 😂
You guys keep me laughing. Fussy cutting and rainbow color order. Great information.
Glad you enjoyed! We crack ourselves up -Mark
Jess, totally with you on the mildliners! So happy to hear I’m not alone! I do love my giro cutter, but there is definitely a learning curve.
Mine is A&O notebooks actually. They are pretty, but I hate the binding and the paper… I was absolutely convinced they would be better than LT1917 but since I don’t post online A&O just doesn’t fit my needs
Love the Sarasa pens, too.
"You need all" darn capitalism, I fell on that trap a lot of times 😅
Hahahaha 💸 -Mark
All the stickers I buy and hoard!!!! 😫 As a result, I’m on a Use Your Stash kick.
fussy cutting is also used in quilting.
Good point! 👏 Lots of uses 😄
@markyourpages Where did you get the big octopus print that’s on your wall?
That’s from a print maker locally to me Jump Jack Studio instagram.com/jumpjackstudio?igsh=MXg4YzlxaDN4NWhwOQ==
I just love you two togheter!
Glad you enjoy the episodes 😄
thank you for sharing this with us Mark and Jess. I agree with you about the acrylographs. I have some I got from the PBB/A+O collab and I haven't used them since I got them. I think one of them was defective when I got them. do I regret getting them? No. Will I buy them again? Likely not.
Keep up the good work guys. Again, thank you for sharing.
Jess, I envy your notebook collection. I can only aspire to such heights!
Ohhhhhhhh....where did you get the crab pen holders?! I live on the beach. I NEED these on my desk.
Off Amazon
Agree with acrylographs & calliographs for sure! I actually regret going so hard on the 160gsm bullet journals at the start. I’ve sold and gifted a lotttt of them since getting into more fountain pen friendly paper. 🫶🏽
You are the resell queen! What are your favorite fountain friendly notebooks you are loving? -Mark
Ohhh noooooo! -Mark
21:50 This week I've been actively throwing out the trimmings from mine, because I have enough little snips that are "perfect" for single square oops' and bigger lengths for the big oops'. 😘
I love the gyro cutter. The tool i recently regret is the Misti stamping tool.
Thank you -Mark
All my goals disappeared in my journal after using a frixion pens. I keep it on my book shelf. It was so annoying.
That might reappear if you put in the fridge?
Oh wow! -Mark
The big calendar could be used for water color/pencil color awatches
I do half way to Halloween in April and Christmas in July for reading and use my stash twice a year that way!
My regrets are notebooks, stickers and tombows. I've learned my lesson.
I didn’t know what a completionist was, but i am so one...
Welcome to the club haha -Mark
For me a regret was definitely the acrilographs from archer and olive. Beautiful but not what I wanted. Also I love the happy planet stickers but so many go unused
I regret buying paintpens from a very cheap brand. It blobs the paint out. Thank you for your opinions. Love your dinamic
Oh no! Mine haven’t done that yet and I hope they never do cause I’d be prying that open for the tape -Mark
@mark: use the calendar for pre made calendars in your collection pages
Good idea -Mark
My biggest regrets have always been notebooks with poor quality paper that bleeds with my fountain pens. Including Moleskines. I've learned my lesson and now I stick mainly with Rhodia and Clairefintaine.
Must be the week for knife accidents, did something stupid and cut my thumb...no need to express how much blood there was. haha Hubby wanted to drag me to the hospital an hour away and I refused and reminded him that I'm a bleeder and it'll be alright. Butterfly bandages and a wrap around it and its fine...as long as I don't take it off I'm fine. :)
I have so many lower gsm books that I don't use, and I've decided I was going to give them away to the kids so they can at least do some journal work. I live on a pension so I save yearly for my archer and olive notebooks because those are the only ones I use now. And yes I agree that the Quirky Cup notebooks are not the best for me. Sharp edges means papercuts for me. haha
Fussy cut comes from the quilting community.
For me unfortunately it's the A&O calliographs. I get that it's been a while since I've gotten them but some just dry out. And I don't have that issue with for example mildliners or tombows (which I've had for about the same amount of time). I like the product itself it just sucks that I paid money for something that I couldn't really use as much as I wanted to.
what was the name of the pen you both liked that doesn't smear if you color/highlight over it?
It’s the Sarasa Markon -Mark
Thanks
I jumped all in on Happy Planner in 2019 and NEVER finished a single one of the like 7 books i bought
Also I’ve purchased a number of dot journals and no matter how i change my methods i always struggle to fill them out and utilize them
So many things! I’m a collection type person which has not been good with my fountain pen journey.
My biggest regrets are always FOMO related. I bought Tombows because everyone loves them. But I don’t use them. I gave my entire collection to a friend.
Loved this topic! Glad I am not alone.
Frugal - definition 1
Mark time to gift that fountain pen to a Right handed person
Stationery regret: I bought a really nice vacuum plunger pull fountain pen. I love fountain pens but refilling and cleaning this one feels so messy and awkward!
I wonder what that crystallization actually is, I do trash those
Retractable nib or budget tattoo needle? 😂
😂 literally that
I subbed soo faaaast 😊🎉
Yay! Welcome planner pal -Mark
