  • Join me as I turn my newly built shed into a Workshop. Note this is not a professionals opinion, However 3 wires how hard can it be 😊.
    so in this video I achieve getting the workshop consumer unit wired, the socket circuit and light circuit giving this workshop the negative energy it needs.

    Joe, just so you are aware you have installed a radial circuit and not a ring main. The radial should have a 16A breaker max. The cable can not cope with 32A and could catch fire if you get anywhere near 32A

      Hi thank you Andrew I think to make it safer i will connect the last socket back to the consumer completing the ring.

    Joe I love your videos. that is not a ring main a ring main should go back to the consumer unit. All you need to do is go from the last socket with twin and earth back to the Consumer unit. That is a ring main .👍👌

    Nice work Joe, and especially nice to see all the concerned professionals offering guidance in a nice calm polite way. So often I've read many trades people going up in arms when they see lay people doing things incorrectly, I've read so many nasty comments on other channels where things rapidly sink into the sewer. It's a measure of the respect and support you have from the viewing public illustrated by the well meaning comments. I particularly am impressed how you handled your responses... its all too easy to get upset by strangers critiquing what you do in your own back yard, but your restraint and respectful replies show you to be a gentleman and a scholar as well as a machinist!

      @@MachiningwithJoe you are allowed to do the works but not allowed to power it without it being inspected and tested by suitably qualified person. I worked very hard to obtain those qualifications and to watch this video saddens me.

      @@fredcreer1929 I’m sorry this video makes you feel that way Fred. I can understand your frustration and trust be the last thing I want is for my new shop to burn down. So Im definitely going to continue the circuit back to the consumer and also get the installation checked out to make sure it is safe.

    I would recommend putting a few outlets on the ceiling so you can drop power to tools that are in the center of the shop without having to trip over cords run from the walls.

    Get some saddles for that saggy conduit Joe! You should wire the 16 Amp socket straight back to the 16 Amp MCB (Not RCD, thats the one on the right) And you have made a raial circuit for your sockets, the minimum requirement for that on a 32A MCB is 4mm Twin and Earth. Also Mark up that grey cable with some earth tape and the black neutral should be marked in blue! HTH!

    • @MachiningwithJoe
      @MachiningwithJoe  Год назад

      Thanks Rob so I think after everyone’s comments I am going to wire the last socket back to the consumer. Also the phase converter is now wired using 4mm directly to 16A mcb.

    Hi Joe, Are you guys able to do your own electrical work? we can not do that here in Australia we must have a qualified electrician to do all this type of work anyway thank you and keep up the good work great job.

      Hi Wayne from the feedback I have had. We can do our own work as long as it is then checked by a qualified electrician.

    Joe, looking at your main incoming cable, it looks about the same size as the 2.5mm twin and earth cable, I was wondering what size the armoured cable is ???? If it is 2.5mm, you really need to have a 20a breaker in the house and a 16a breaker in the workshop.

    • @MachiningwithJoe
      @MachiningwithJoe  Год назад +1

      The armoured is 4mm cable as it was what was already there when I removed old shed.

    Like your videos Joe but I would take the advice of sparky's on here; get your 'Radial' circuit checked out / certificated by a qualified electrician, to at least 17th edition regs, & then checked & signed off by an electrical inspector otherwise all your efforts will be in vain as no insurance company will cover you should anything untoward happen.

    • @MachiningwithJoe
      @MachiningwithJoe  Год назад

      Thank you mexmanix yeah I think I am going to take advise complete radial circuit to make a ring main and get things tested.

      @@MachiningwithJoe Radial circuits are fine Joe. As long as you run them in 4mm cable on the 32A MCB. They are easier to adapt as your workshop grows too!
