  • Join me in this video as I modify my existing quick change tool post and machine in a second dovetail. When I first machined this tool post I over looked how easy it would make lathe work when it comes to using a boring bar. So this additional dovetail will help with this problem.

    Nice work Joen and a nice finish with the grinder. a little cold bluing would touch it up nice as well, I think. Too bad about the boogers, but that's life. well done and nice to see you get out to the shop, cheers!

      Hey Howder hope your keeping well. I never thought about cold bluing it sounds like a good idea thou. With the surface ground finish I imagine it would take really well. All the best.

    I've just found your site, and like the way you do things. It looks like I'm going to have to make my own QCT. I see you have a Collet Chuck, where can I get hold of a Key to suit. The people I've asked here (Australia) have never heard of one, you're the only one I've seen with one.

    Great video. Ive had similar breaks with good cutters. I stopped that by never cutting anything but conventionally with the cutters. Since i have used cheap cutters for one off jobs and not had a break yet.

      Glad you enjoyed yeah but of a shock how it broke with no warning. Think I’ll stick to your moto in future and only conventional mill when using these.

    Thought I'd seen in previous video the solid base replacement of compound slide had made parting off on your lathe practicable ? Apparently not?

    Hi Joe. You sold me on getting a Warco WM 180. Its on order and I'd like to get my spot ready for it.
    Any chance you can get me the footprint size of the bed of the machine. Warco sent a drawing but key dimensions are missing Thats not the chip tray, just the feet measured front to back and end to end. I'm after ordering a piece of steel to set it on. Hope this finds you or perhaps any other kind WM 180 owner.
    Many Thanks for considering this. 👍🏼

    Shame about the dovetail tool, go easy on the next one. As funds allow, get the better one when you can.

    • @MachiningwithJoe
      @MachiningwithJoe  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah while I’m learning I’ll stick to the cheap ones then once I’ve mastered conventional milling only and correct speeds and feeds I’ll step up to a better one.

    No reply from Joe SO try again ... Anyone with a WM 180 care to give me the bed size / footprint of the machine. inches or mm is fine with me.

      840 mm x 440 mm x 275 mm according to the Warco website ?

      @@graemewhite5029 Thank you very much for that. I can go get steel to mount the machine. Lathe ordered February 2nd. expected early May. Now put back to late July. There seems to be a lot if these firms selling on Chinese tools without having them in stock but accept your cash for later delivery. I'm hoping it all comes together quite soon. Thanks again. 👍🏼

    Everyone moans about cheap Chinese tools but they won’t pay for good quality tooling. Buy once cry once. Luckily you won’t see the damage being low down at the back.

      Yeah I know what you mean the old saying buy cheap buy twice is true. But my feeling is while I’m still learning best breaking a £10 tool rather than a £60 tool. Honestly the quality of these Chinese import bits are impressive but definitely can’t be high quality ( once I know what I’m doing with it ) 😂
