I had the honor of meeting Maestro Kamen waaaay back in 1998 when I was 19. He was so wonderful-so kind, gracious, ebullient, generous with his time, and so much fun. I basically just fanboyed about how much I loved his work; specifically, when I told him of a single chord that I was obsessed with (heard in the Die Hard 2 score then repeated in the With A Vengeance score), I hummed it off to him, to which he then bellowed “COME HERE!!!” and pulled me in for a full embrace. I’ll never forget it ☺️ He was beyond delightful. RIP Maestro ♥️♥️
What an amazing thing to remember! Can you point somehow which chord you were obsessed with?
Awesome!
Oh wow! That's amazing. i am dying hard with jealousy lol. 👍🏻
Band of Brothers theme. One of the most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard.
He certainly lit up a room. I'm so lucky to have physically experienced the magic that was/is Michael Kamen. He is most definitely missed!! ♥
It just goes to show how much of a genius Michael Kamen was. My friends and colleagues who were fortunate enough to work with him always tell fun stories and memories about him.
Very happy to see this. Michael is greatly missed.
Back in the 70's I attended a New York Rock and Roll Ensemble concert in a garage on Kater Street in Philadelphia. By the time a year had passed I saw the band 3 or 4 more times in the Philly area and had become totally mesmerized by Michael Kamen. Even that early on he was the brightest of stars playing beautiful rock and roll with his band of fellow Julliard dropouts (I say with deep admiration). He was one of those gifts that keeps on given for which I am very grateful.
The Highlander score is amazing.
Met him many years ago. Just a normal but talented guy. What a loss
I also had the honor of meeting Michael Kamen at his home in feb 1997 with a friend . He played on the piano for us "Everything I do I do it for you" it was an unforgettable moment, engraved forever. Eternal thanks Maestro Kamen.
Rip❤
Talented and incredibly handsome!! One of the most underrated musicians of all time.
I would not say he was underrated.Even.I knew who he was.
His beautiful Music mirrored his beautiful Soul. What a human being. Thank You Maestro!
This is Gold!!! I miss you Michael, and your awesome Scores!
I met Michael once, my uncle was very good friends with him.
@Elisabetta I'm not sure my uncle died in 96. My uncle was a singer and choreographer. I think they met through David Bowie, but don't quote me on that. It was in the 70's.
I as a musician have mad respect for Maestro Kamen. It's not just the music, I love the elements of his personality that he adds. I first knew his work through S & M by Metallica and it blew my mind. May his memory be a blessing for all the people who have been touched by his work.
Superb musician. First piece of music I heard from him is a piece called “besides you” from his band New York Rock Ensemble, many years ago when I was a kid. Later in life I discovered he also composed the Band of Brothers score. Two of the most poignant, beautiful pieces of music I know.
I was just about to write this same comment. Introduced to Roll Over in college. Still love that album, and listen to Fields of Joy, Beside You, Running Down the Highway, Gravedigger. Amazing talent, and a voice that resonates with me like no other.
OMG What would he still done in movies if He would be alive! He is a huge miss for the history of movie scores. R.I.P. Mr Kamen!
Adventures of Baron Munchausen is his most incredible score imo. It's so imaginative.
My sister and I had the first four albums by Kamen's group New York Rock and Roll Ensemble, then New York Rock Ensemble. They played a little Bach, but helped ease me out of classical snobbery into the wider rock world, just in time for the early 70s rock explosion. "Roll Over" is still one of my favorite albums. Fun, straight-ahead rock and roll. (It's here on YT too.)
Cool
Thank you for this! My musical hero and inspiration is Michael Kamen, great feature!
So many musicians worked with Michael Kamen - a force for good. He wrote tons of film scores
So sorry this has been here for 3 years before I found it. But im here now..
Excellent.
I came across the Kamen-Sanborn album quite by accident in my youth … I didn’t know anything about music, but I knew this was special.
'There can be only one!"
his work on Highlander is unforgettable, unfortunately gone too soon.

I'm just learning the name of Michael kamen but I have his musical scores forever etched in my subconscious of all my favorite movies I'm tripping out because I'm researching all these films and just like I suspected they're all point back this super composer
His music has been part of my childhood through adulthood I loved his movie work and his work with Metallica
Looks like the Symphony Orchestra guy I have seen in Metallica's S&M concert videos
Haaaa you're the drummer in Clapton's Concerto for Guitar!!! (The greatest piece of music I've ever heard!) I always wondered if it was Phil Collins!?!
Guy was one in a million. Bummer he's gone. Open range is one of my favorite scores. Anyone else think they are looking at John Belushi's brother here? Sheesh.
Terrific - thank you for this sound portrait!
You have the best clips / videos! Subbed.
RIP
I wish Michael Kamen was still alive
12:24 - I love the way this story unfolds.
20:41 - I spy with my little eye...Eric Clapton.
Working on a quiz about Michael Kamen!
Anybody got any suggestions?
X-men original score soundtrack
"Logan Holds Rouge" makes me tear up every time
He scored the first X-Men movie and was listed on the CD as Michael K-Men.
Was just re-watching the Lethal Weapon films and kept wondering why the music sounds so similar to the music on the Die Hard movies, with lots of crescendos and powerful brass to heighten the intensity of action scenes. Now I realze they were composed by the same guy.
He said he didn’t study conducting, arranging or (playing) piano but studied oboe and George Harrison comes on to say he’s classically trained musician? It’s tenuous at best, I think it’s Michaels love of music that’s come through not being classically trained?
