MDBAMA: How can you be certain that Gyarados is indeed a Water-Onix? Isn't it possible that Onix is actually a Stone-Gyarados?

Asking the real questions.
In Gen I, when a paralyzed Pokémon uses Agility, it cancels the Speed drop effect of paralysis, and then increases Speed by two stages.
Good ol' broken Gen I

Does Lvling up undo it like it does for the badge boost?
Also also, if any other Stats are modified *after* that (I believe, only on your opponent).. it RE-applies the Speed drop to yourself.
Such as a you getting Special drop on them from Psychic, or they do a Swords Dance boost.

Opponent uses Thunder Wave on you - Speed ¼ (25)

You then use Agility - Speed x8 (200)

You use Psychic and get a Special drop onto the opponent - Your Speed drops to ¼ again (25)
Now correct me if I'm wrong but this can apply multiple times? So in theory the Speed stat can drop to 1.

@@ericmaloney6730 yes, from March 30, 2011 he uploaded around 9 videos per week for 10 years. These pokemon challenges were kind of his every Saturday video in addition to other videos. But then he made these challenge videos his main uploads.

Yes, I know he took the Dome fossil on a fossils only run when he started with Omanyte. But that is not what I mean. I mean I want to hear "I took the Root fossil" while seeing the Claw fossil being taken. Or hearing "I took the Helix fossil" while seeing the Dome fossil being taken.
And to those who say that this has happened before - when? Show me! I've looked and looked and have not seen it

Even better, he should say he picked up a fossil from the wrong Gen, like picking up the root fossil in a Gen 1 run.
Now *that* would help the algorithm!
He should tell us he's taking the Dome Fossil, and make a big deal about how he's taking the Dome Fossil this time in contrast to every previous video, but still be taking the Helix Fossil like normal in the actual footage.
Machamp, the Hitmons, Primeape, Poliwrath, Heracross... Yeah, you'll have plenty for a full team.
Don't forget the Hitmons (unless he starts with one) are locked behind the 8th gym and Waterfall in Gen 2.
@@BioniclesaurKing4t2 Tyrogue is obtainable from the Odd Egg in Crystal, if that's the Gen 2 game that MDB chooses to play for that challenge. It's possible that he said which Gen 2 game he's playing for that challenge and I missed it (thus rendering this entire comment useless if he said Gold/Silver), but if he IS playing Crystal then that's an option

It's been awhile since I made this suggestion, but, since you mentioned again how much you like team runs, a random one would be a gen1 run using pokemon whose pokedex numbers look like binary. (001. Bulbasaur, 010. Caterpie, 011. Metapod, 100. Voltorb, 101. Electrode, 110. Weezing, 111. Rhyhorn)
You were saved at that last turn by the AI not having priority on items, because I'm pretty sure Blue would've gone for a Full Restore there. 🤣

You know, Pokemon Red and Blue really illustrate that a solid core gameplay loop and good style can cover for a Veridian Forest's worth of bugs and glitches
Regarding your cardiology appointments, it probably helps a lot that you are very flexible on what time of day you can take an appointment, so whenever a cancellation happens in a less popular slot (weekday mornings especially) you are an easy option for the admin staff to swap in. Either way, glad to hear things keep moving up, and I hope it keeps going that way!

I think Clefairy is a great example of how just having good moves can make a challenge simple enough like this one!
MDBAMA: since you aren't against using the Universal Pokémon Randomizer, would you be interested in maybe doing a challenge run with some more randomized options? I would love to see an actual WATER ONIX run! (Onix being made water type and having water moves)
The strangeness with items and gen 1 trainers will never fail to bring a smile to my face. IIRC, Blaine is hampered by a flag not getting properly cleared and the high speed of his pokemon.

I think doing some challenges where certain gym leaders that are usually very easy suddenly can be very difficult! One idea I have is doing Pokemon Playinum with only Wingull since Volkner is often seen as an easy gym leader!

I like that at 3:20ish, you say I don’t plan to crit too much, then you proceed to hit a crit right at that moment
If you don’t use a printer often, don’t get an ink printer, get a laser jet printer. The ink dries up if you don’t use it often and you waste money having to buy new ink when you go a long time without printing. With a laser jet, you could go months without printing and it will print just fine the next time you use it. It isn’t as bold as ink is but unless you need the colors or a more “poppy” page print out, laser jet printers are the way to go. There is no ink there so nothing dries up. They are slightly more expensive to buy but you’ll save money not buying the ink all the time.
MDBAMA: what in your opinion has been the most challenging run you've done.
He's answered this randomly on a video before. It's Wobbufet. He couldn't finish it. And it was miserable to watch. It was so painful, I felt for him.

I think a really cool run to do would be Pokemon “blank” only using the HM pokemon you collect during your other gameplays. Like Dux in this one, or Cha’Ding in HGSS

MDB, have you considered getting a refillable ink printer? They're called ink tank printers and you can refill them with any ink you want (and it's WAY cheaper).

Here's a weird idea: only Rest, Snore and Sleep Talk. Start with something like a Snorlax that can learn Rest and Snore by level up, then once it has both moves you can never attack while awake again. You can fill each Pokémon's remaining move slot with any move you like, but can only use it if it's called by Sleep Talk!

stupid idea: when listing ouch such HUGE TM Lists can you maybe split it in 2 or 3 parts and show those next to each other? would make looking though them a bit easier and a lot on mobile

“Pick a gen and tell us his thoughts” its time bois, hes gonna do the pokemon smash or pass video /s (this was popular for a while) but ye having you go over a gens pokemon would be cool to see your thoughts. Pokemon are surprisingly well thought out for their references to the area in the gen.
I think the 'MDB Poke Opinions' is amazing. To make things not take forever going one by one, do them as evolution lines. That way you can throw Bulbasaur, Ivysaur and Venasaur on screen at the same time amd go over them together.
It sounds interesting to see a video from you going through all the pokemon in one region to say your opinion on them.

Fun fact: Clenormal doesn't work in Italian because a) it's still Clefairy not Clefata, and b) for whatever reason, unless my cousin has it wrong, the fairy type is called folletto, meaning pixie.

Some advice for printing.
Check your local library.
You can usually print things out there for 10-25 cents a page.
Probably my total lack of self-awareness, but this is the first MDB video where I've noticed the background music.
So my assumption for healing is that at some point starters were supposed to have move with even more %chance for effect, and it just stayed.
That or its telling trainers how to remove afflictions.

Data miners have looked into the coding of the games, and in literally every Pokemon game, NPC Pokemon actually get higher chances for bonus effects from moves, higher hit chances, higher crit chances...pretty much everything that's supposed to be luck based...than they're supposed to, based on the usual rules. They also give you *worse* odds on all these "supposed to be luck based" things. In other words, the game *literally* cheats when you're not going against wild Pokemon, or another human player.

I'm never worried about normal type pokémon challenge solo or not to beat the game. Mostly because they have often a good coverage move pool. I might be wrong it's been a while I didn't touch a pokémon game, but I remember most of normal type pokémon have this as strong point over any other type. On the healthy side I really what you have it can be cured and nothing "too major" if I can say like that.
Pokémon Challenge suggestion: You are free to go with the game of your choice, but the challenges is using only middle evolution stage pokémon. (For Exemple: If you pick Bulbasaur as your starter, you can only battle with Ivysaur.) You are not allowed to use pokémon who's has no evolution or only 1, it must be a pokémon with a 2 stage linear Evolution. So pokémon like Eevee or Tyrogue are not allowed, but pokémon like Oddish, Poliwag or Ralts are allowed.
Try number: 15
What about do the secret fight with prof OAK in gen 1 chalenges? It needs gameshark but it could be interesting like the secret Steve and Red fights in Gen 3 and Gen 2 chalenges
I'd also like to request a weird challenge run from Gen 1. The Pokémon you use doesn't matter as long as at some point it learns the move Metronome by level up, ideally before level 20 but not mandatory. The challenge part is Metronome is the only move you can't replace and you must learn it. You can still use the other 3 moves, and you can make them whatever you want. The other weird rule is that you must use Metronome at least 1 time in each Major battle, it doesnt have to be your 1st move. You just need to use it once before beating the trainer. By Major battle I mean gym leaders, rivals, and elite 4. All the other rules are the same as your normal Gen 1 runs. I really think it could be fun and annoying, and watching would be great. Could be a clutch save, interesting option, troll you, or even force a reset and with your luck and way of looking at things and reacting, it would be hilarious imo. I know there's probably no way but I can dream lol
The printer ink guy is Austin McConnell and he's also going through a whole host of medical issues. Austin is recovering from a stroke after having a heart valve replaced. If I had a nickel for every one of my favorite creators going through major health issues, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice.

Challenge idea:
Can you beat Platinum using only moves with unlisted power? Like you know how Scratch has a little box next to the word Power that says “40”? You can’t use that. But a move like Low Kick has two little dashes next to Power because the power of the move can vary. So you can only use moves like that (plus status moves), so like seismic toss, grass knot, counter, etc.
Challenge idea, Beating Pokemon Red with Gen 1 rentals. You can use any you like but they can only use moves they use in Pokemon Stadium rentals
Getting your take on select Pokemon from a Generation would be nice. Maybe not a whole gen since most are at least 100+ Pokemon.
MDBAMA: You probably remember this question a long time ago, but would you consider doing another Rattata only run in the future? Like a "remaster" of your original one, down to actually catching a Rattata because you didn't know about the Pokemon Randomizer? Or the run in Firered/Leafgreen or any other generation? Love your videos and keep trucking on.

MDBAMA: if you could have a pokemon in real life which one would you want? I always thought it would be super cool to have an arcanine because aside from all the dog stuff you could do, you could also ride it around and have like a super warm fuzzy pillow to sleep on haha

I would enjoy an "MDB's thoughts on pokemon" but you could always do it as a series of shorts one pokemon at a time. It would get the channel more traffic, and you wouldn't have to melt your mind over 100 pokemon a sitting. Though it's probably better to go line by line, not mon by mon.
Still can't help but worry, but I am just glad you are okay! I had a feeling you would win with a Clefairy!
Also, I would be interested to hear what you think about every Pokemon! We all have our opinions and I think it would be great to know yours. I know you bring up your opinions during a run as well sometimes.
I think what intrests me most about the idea is of course your opinions on some Pokemon that are usually not considered good or supposedly uninspired. Like I smiled at the mention of some runs, like Mr. Mime and Trubbish. I've always liked these guys, but I can understand why people wouldn't like them.
I still want a Pokemon Alpha Sapphire: Too Much Water run. AKA only water types either in moves or in Pokemon
I don't even need to watch it until the end, to know it's great. How about three possible ideas, which mught be fun for you.
First: pokemon gen 4 Vulpix only. Might be difficult, but should/could be possible. I don't think it should be too much of a difference. I think heartgold/soulsilver has the overall better moves!
Second: an Eeveelution run in gen 4 Platinum. That should be more or less a given run. However, i think an easy time should be for you from time to time
Third: can you beat pokemon crystal as Elite 4 Bruno? Well you sweep him often, but i think this should be doable. If i don't forget something, the only real challenges should be Morty and the Rival.
MDBAMA: could you imagine, naming your rivals after the person who gave you a challenge? I think they might get more personality (i guess you could call it that?), like they are your Enemy for giving the idea?
