I really enjoyed that. No flashy edits, just some good clear personal thoughts - and that's really important, everyone has a different relationship to every shoe which is why your end result caught me and I suspect many others by surprise by being the shoe that is probably least acclaimed in the shoe-tuber world. Also, appreciate your comments on the Nova 3 lean back sensation, I had the same in OG Metaspeed Sky to the extent I was definitely in negative drop (chubby runner/soft foam/low drop) and my calfs were SCREAMING....

    • @MidLifeRunner

Thanks for sharing Russell. I was just researching reviews on the metaspeed Sky + and I read a few times that it felt like a negative drop and that the calves were screaming. Also, that by mile 15, the magic was gone and the foam dulled, which I think is kind of the case with original metaspeed and with Novablast 3. :/

Great presentation, I loved the Rebel V2s last year, they were so fun to run in, and I've found the V3s discounted so I'll go for them even though I don't expect them to last very long.
I also just passed the 600 km mark in my Speed 1s, they are so good for tempo and interval workouts, and their foam is very resilient.
I agree with you regarding the speed 3s, they would work for somebody with one or two pair of shoes, but for people with a larger rotation, they lack a bit of specific purpose in my opinion.

    Wow, awesome.
I’ve run in all three but stuck with the Rebel 3…love the Rebel 3 and yes to me the upper improved over V2.
I wanted to love the Speed3 (because of all the hype), so I purchased it, not once, not twice…but 3 times. Testing on an indoor track each time before eventually returning. The upper felt like a step back from V1, great at faster pace exactly how you explained it with animation and then the fact that I’m not a heal striker. Feels like I’m wasting the back half of the shoe.
Hope they don’t mess the Rebel 3 up next iteration. I don’t need more cushion than what it’s got. There’s other shoes out there if we want super cush high stack. Rebel is fun and so versatile because the shoe does not lock you into a running category as much as the others do.

The Speeds was after a few weeks and the Novablast was almost immedielty (even after walking for about an hour in them). I've heard stability issues have been worked out in them but somewhat hesitant to try them considering how annoying those injuries were to recover from. Hoping to try them though and give them another chance with the new models! The V3 seems like something to check out too for sure! Great content looking forward to more.

I’m with you on the Speed 3. I think that it’s a good daily trainer but I also don’t feel the plate in it or the propulsive roll that it had in the 1 and 2. I actually struggle to get that shoe up to 5k pace and hold it, since it feels bigger, softer, and just lacks that pop at toe off. For me the Speed 3 actually works best at easier paces where I can just relax in it and enjoy the cushioned ride. But I shed a tear for the loss of the near perfection that was the Speed 1.

@@MidLifeRunner No worries on the email. I took my Rebel V2's on vacation when I just wanted to bring one running shoe. Could handle faster paces as well as daily miles and the Fuelcell Foam is very comfortable to walk around in. Those shoes were so light and bouncy. You could feel them bottoming out on long runs though. I retired my V2s just after I passed 200 miles in them. The outsole rubber was worn down really badly. I find the rubber in a lot of NB shoes to be very soft and it tends to wear out faster than the outsoles of a lot of other brands. Except Hoka. You are 100% correct about the feelings of Novablast 1, 2 and 2! To me, the Novablast 1 was the most exciting development in running shoes in this price range, it was bouncy and it propelled you forward. Like you, I am using the Novablast 2 for the recovery runs and works great for that, I just don't get the forward propulsion and so its not for anything faster than a recovery run. Now with my Novablast 3, its not as recovery type shoe as N2 yet it seems a bit slower and more stable than N1 and as you say it almost feels like it is angle backwards almost like a zero drop, so again it has lost the Novablast "magic". I also find that it is the firmest of all the Novablast versions. Having said all that, I used it for the long training runs from 25km to 32km and it worked really well for that. I found my legs stayed fairly fresh, and it really protected my achilles which tend to niggle with softer more cushioned shoes. I just found them a bit "clunky" for the actual marathon race I was training for as they are the widest of all the Novablasts which I presume that made like this to add stability.

    • @MidLifeRunner
      @MidLifeRunner 8 месяцев назад +1

Very well put on the Novablast 3 and thank you for all the feedback/confirmation. The 3 was a bit clunky overall. There is just so much shoe, that I have to focus more than I would like on my foot strike . Seeing that the number 4 is more of a cruiser also, but yet also more firm than the 3, makes me think I will wait until next year when they go on sale . What I loved about the Novablast was the magical bounce and propulsion which I don’t feel in 3 as much as others do. The new balance sc elite v3 gives me a similar propulsion forward . The energy arc tech only in general does

I realize this video is older but I just watched it. Couldn’t disagree more about the Endorphin Speed 3. I’m on my second pair. I use the Hanson’s Marathon Method plan and Speed 3 for all my SoS days. I think they’re best with mid to forefoot strike marathon pace or faster. I prefer them to my Endorphin Pro 3s and have debated using them for my next marathon. Fantastic shoe.

I love my Novablast 3 shoes. I guess I am a forefoot striker because these shoes feel excellent and responsive. I have the Speed 3’s and I like them, but mainly because they are comfortable. They fit my foot well and they feel very light. They do not feet responsive to me. I got both shoes for a pretty good deal. My Novablast’s I paid $80 U.S and my Speed 3’s $120 U.S.

Hey, thanks for the video. I am in preparation for my 1st marathon and looking for a new shoe for long runs (25k+), any suggestion? I usually go for my novablast 2, but it's already over 800km and it might not last much more, so I need to prepare myself for a new one. Recently I though on novablast 3, puma velocity 2, or maybe even 1080v12 (which currently is my last option, I might not enjoy it too much due to lack of bouncy feeling). I love asics a lot, but prices are crazy recently, so looking for a good promotion

Awesome to hear on the marathon! Affordable long run shoe, 🤔 I would say the SC trainer on discount. I’m at 400km and it’s feeling great still. It IS heavy compared to Novablast 2 so there is that. SC Trainer 2 is bouncier and lighter than #1 but full price at 180. Those are fuel cell foam shoes from NB and I like that line from them. Novablast 3 is a good daily trainer but isn’t as comfortable or long runy as v2 for me. I haven’t tried the velocity 2 so I can’t speak it. If you do go with Puma, let me know how it feels in comparison to the Novablast 2. Or maybe just get another pair of Novablast 2 if you can find them

Saucony Tempus is a mild stability shoe, it has ample cushion to ensure the foot is protected as an alternative to the neutral speed3 but speed3 hugs my foot, may be it is due to the S curve tech but it feels good to me hence I went for speed3. Speed3 does not feel blazing fast though. For speed, Endorphin Pro3 is a better option but I felt it is non versatile compared to speed3. it feels super light, cushy and very bouncy! also it feels wobbly and strange when you walk with it but feels normal when you pick up pace :-) so pro3 felt like a Lamborgini which feels clunky when you drive that in slow 20 mph speed but feels very normal when you race with it. Nice video, keep it coming please!

I have the Speed 2 and 3 and the Speed 2 is much snappier then Speed 3. I don't really like the Novablast 3. My feet slap the ground fast making it hard to run fast and my feet swell after the run because of the constant slapping of the foot.. Speed 3 is to mushy for me. Speed 2 is so much better. I had the REBEL V2 but it felt unstructured and I hurt my metatarsal on the stones in the road. I don't know if they improved the outsole on my REBEL V3 so stones don't hurt your feet.

    • @MidLifeRunner

Speed 1/2 had the snap and I’m disappointed it went away, however it is supposed to be coming back. Rebel v3 has A LOT more structure/wider base, however 27.5 inches of fuel cell foam isn’t enough to protect against rocks. The outsole is roughly the same, slightly more protection but it doesn’t provide much again the fuel cell

If you want to send me the endorphins that would be great! I really like the endorphin line up and I would love to try the 3's out. Bless you

I already gave them away, unfortunately. I’ve got some Skechers razor excess 2 with 20 miles in them that I’m going to retire early. Care for those ?

@@MidLifeRunner that would be great! If I don't end up liking them I will give them away to some young runners in Lebanon where I do missions work. Either way they will be used! Where do I send my address?

Thanks for the input, Steve. What makes you say that? I’ve tried a pair before but it hurt my feet (high arches) so I never went back but I’m open to it

The Novablast 4 is way more stable. The first stable Novablast - but it’s a bit bulky

💀 deceased!! I left the jokes out on this one. And my wife says putting that in the title is tacky and makes me look old, which I am- to be fair. Thanks for making me laugh

SAUCONY BUYER BEWARE! BUYER BEWARE! Absolute Junk. My wife wanted to try a pair of this brand, her size is 6.5 W after a couple of wears they caused severe blisters on the top of her foot. Their horrible customer service did absolutely nothing other than make us jump thru hoops.
