Thank you for not making a 20 minute long video full of anecdotes and useless info like so many RUclipsrs do. You got right to the important information. Excellent tutorial. Cheers!
Hands down the best video I’ve seen on this. Thanks so much for putting this together with the links as well! Been trying to figure this out for so long. 🙌🏼
If you are filling from a 100LB tank, does it also need to be inverted? That would be heavy to invert, but I always see videos where the source tank is inverted.
I suppose so, but Not sure if you could ever get a full transfer given they are the same size. You would still need the adaptor as the hose only has one 20lb tank adaptor.
I use the Mr Heater with a 20lb when I go camping. Maybe I'll do like you and use a 5 lb b/c I'm sure the 5 lb will get me through the night and I won't have to lug around a huge 20 lb tank. Thanks!
Good video presentation. Well constructed. My question is recently I purchased small 5lb and 11lb propane tanks for camping\picnicking. The vendor mentions doing a "Proper Purging of a Propane Tank" and provides instructions. Does opening\closing the bleeder valve do the same thing? Seems like it if the intent is to remove old air in a brand-new tank, the bleeder valve opening\closing does this job of proper purging. I'm guessing the vendor's instructions are more for larger tanks. Any advice?
Honestly, I may not be qualified to answer this will 100% accuracy. But to me, purging means purging the tank of air. For example, if I took my 5lb tank and filled with exact method, without the bleeder valve open, it wouldn’t fill fully. There would be air pressure in the 5lb, transferred from the 20lb. The air must be purged out to fill fully. Hope that helped, if not, may want to check with your tank manufacturer
Lets address what you called "The Bleeder Valve" and what it actually does in the refilling process. That valve is often referred to, in the business, as "The 10% valve". It is engineered so that when the tank's liquid propane level has reached 90% of total capacity (pumped into it against the in-tank, liquid Propane gas's pressure) the fluid Propane's level just reaches the open end of the venting tube and is ejected from the valve along with the escaping gaseous Propane. THAT is when the attendant immediately stops the refilling process, and firmly closes the 10% valve screw head. That 10% valve's venting before starting to 'spit' liquid Propane has nothing to do with releasing internal pressure (although it might, seem so) but rather as a positive indicator when reaching maximum fuel level. The filling station's pump has MORE than enough pumping pressure to overcome the tank's internal Propane gas back pressure. All this isn't rocket science (more so High School Physics) but many times (NOT in your case) self taught DIY folks try to make it so and in doing that endlessly perpetuate the myths. What if I don’t hear the propane flow from the 20 to the 5. I am not getting what I’m doing wrong. Both tanks are open and the bleeder valve is open too.
@@precisionanglingYT I'll exchange one tip for another ;) - For extra safety, use a "non sparking" flat head (brass tool). One spark near that bleeder valve while propane shoot out will lead to a catastrophic outcome ! Now my question : once the refill is complete, I close all valves (big tank / small tank) and remove the hose (small tank) first. When removing the hose on the big tank side, lots and lots of propane left in the hose shoot out, any way to avoid that ?
I tried to fill my little 5 pound with the same setup. Same ripe of hose(not F273704), but it is not working. What I’m doing wrong? Do I need specifically the F273704 hose?
Should still fill with a different hose. A few key things people missed was making sure the 20lb is upside down, and the 5lb tank bleeder screw open, and waiting long enough. Does take 3-4 minutes depending on temps.

I tend to ramble…but try to keep the videos short but full of what is needed
This was the best video tutorial I have ever seen on refilling a 5 pound tank. Thank you my brother for just keeping it real.
Thanks. Very helpful. Saves a lot of time and gas to get your 5lb tank topped off when you can just do it at home.
Glad you got something from it!!
Killer dude, thanks! I was like, "What the hell? Nothings doing anything?" The upside down and release screw info were priceless.
Glad the info helped you!!
Thanks for sharing from Australia
Cheers Mate!!

Appreciate the feedback!! Glad it helped
Thanks a lot for this.
You’re welcome
I am glad to learn this. I really appreciate the video. Thank you.
Handy to have the 5 lb around
Thanks for sharing this. 😊
You’re welcome
Great video. Stuck here in the tri-state area and no one can or will fill mine within an hr drive. I’m getting the kit/hose you used. Thank You! ✌️
Dude this is perfect, thank you!
👍
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
👍
nice. easy, thanks
You’re welcome
Thanks! Very helpful info!

Honestly… I’m not sure, and probably aren’t qualified to give an educated response. But would imagine it would have to be inverted
Tanks are gas on the top, liquid on the bottom. You want only liquid going through the hose for this.
Yes.
WC is Water Capacity>> 13#
Awesome, thanks!
You’re welcome
Could you do the same thing going from one 20 lb. tank to another 20 lb. tank, minus the 1 lb. tank adapter? Thanks.
I suppose so, but Not sure if you could ever get a full transfer given they are the same size. You would still need the adaptor as the hose only has one 20lb tank adaptor.

They’re handy for shorter periods of time

I have a hose with a regulator on it will it still work or no?
I would think so, but not 100% positive. worth trying where you have it.

Great info!! Thanks! Makes perfect sense
Great Video How long it takes to refill 5 gallon propane tank?
4-5 minutes.
When you are done, propane on the 5lb tank is not under pressure if I’m correct ? How does it flow to the bbq then?
It’s pressurized from the 20lb. Always have pressure in the 5lb.
I didn’t hear it mentioned or I might have missed it, the big tank is upside down so you are transferring in the liquid phase?
Yes. Big tank has to be upside down. Won’t send the LP if it’s upright. Will just transfer a little pressure if the big tank is upright
What weight scale are you using? txs.
That was a 20+ year old Rapala fish scale. Nothing fancy
@@precisionanglingYT Ok thanks.

20lb tank upside down and higher than the 5? If so…should flow easily!!
What type of screwdriver did you use to bleed the valve?
Just a standard flat head!!
@@precisionanglingYT I was trying to turn the wrong one. The pentagon looking one smh. When you said flat head I found the right one.

I keep loosing a half a kilogram every time i fill the 4.5 kg from the 8.5kg tank what am i doing wrong??
Not sure why you’d loose a half kg! If it registers a full 5kg then I’d check for a leak with soapy water
@precisionanglingYT It's coming straight out of the bleeder screw can smell it
Salut
Quand on arrive au us ou peu t’on acheter la bouteille de 5 et ou peu t’on la faire charge en général
Merci Philippe

Ace hardware typically sells empty 5lb tanks
