When I was little, my dad rented this for me from the local video store once. I was too scared to *really* play the game, so I spent all of my time in the manor... but I still got spooked by falling to my death sometimes, and later was so convinced that the butler was coming to kill me that I shut the game off with my heart pounding. XD I was a wimpy child.
Somehow me and my brothers got convinced that every level contained a monster that would show up after enough time so we would shut the game off every 20 or 30 minutes and reset the time or something.
I also got scared, but I was scared only from the monster enemies. In the first level the 2 dinosaurs scared me, and then later the Yeti's and the giant eagle boss monster.
Actually, dressing in warm fur coats but wearing short shorts when it’s freezing cold with snow on the ground is apparently the thing to do. Just take a stroll through my Walmart and observe the local populace.
I was also thinking, even though there’s snow everywhere and she’s wearing a coat but also shorts, she is running and jumping all over the place, which would make anybody hot and sweaty. So she probably still wouldn’t get sick. Then again, she also jumps into water and swims at some points (which she would be very cold after stepping out of the water). So, yeah, I guess anybody could be on either side of the fence with this argument. Lol
In Lara's case, it's not like she's dressed to winter with shorts like Jessica Sherawat, but she escapes on a stolen plane and puts on the flight jacket that she finds, kinda like she randomly finds a form-fitting wetsuit, also with shorts. XD Nowadays they overdo it the other way around, and she never wears shorts at all when hiking, as if the designers never seen Steve Irwin or something.
When we were little my brother, and I spent hours in the last level catching the last bad guy in the walk-in freezer. We ended up with about 1/3 health when we managed to save. We then had the Croft Manor open for free roam at night.
Tomb Raider 2 was the first 3D platformer I ever played and made me an instant fan of the genre. I remember how it freaked me out whenever Lara drowned in an underwater stage and it played that contorting animation.
Here’s fun fact: if you put the disc in a cd player, you can listen to the music and ambience tracks. I learned to play the tribal drum track that way as a child. I don’t actually know if this works with a legit version, I only had a pirated PAL copy from Thailand.
Proper Lara! I miss her lol This is just the best Tomb Raider ever made, I spent hours & hours playing this when I was little.....never knew about the gun glitches! & I also thought exploding Lara was a joke, not the nude thing haha! Thanks Kai x
Is My Absolute Favorite in the Series, besides being one of My first videogames ever played, and yes Venice Violins one of the best ost of Game history,
I didn't know that either. But, my game glitched once when I put in the code, so that lara exploded no matter what I did with her. I had to delete my save and start the game all over again.
I remember finding a few glitches in this game on the playstation 1. You could bypass opening some doors and underwater gates by continually running and jumping / moving into the corners in such a way it would push her through the door to the other side and same for the swimming areas.
Theres just a charm that the old Tomb Raider games have that is nearly missing in the newer games. TR2 is easily my favorite in the series with Last Revelation and Angel of Darkness not far behind
The levels of the OG Series always gave you an otherworldly feeling of abandonment. Making you think: "Who the hell lives here?" It's even stronger nowadays with the outdated graphics.
@@philbecker4676 I liked AoD for the locations, Soundtrack, Atmosphere, Story and Lara herself. The gameplay was bad but thankfully pc mods have fixed the game considerably, I wish I hadn't been rushed

I've been having the classic series on my mind tho I'm not very good at most of these games, there is still enjoyment in conquering levels with it's strict control scheme rather than having the more cinematic style of the recent ones. Keep it up, Kai.
Some trivia for the Floating Islands is that some peoples theorise that the lava in Temple of Xian is apparently boiling mercury just like in the real Emperor Qin’s tomb and that the islands are the result of Lara hallucinating after inhaling the mercury pools’ fumes, which seems to wear off by the time she gets to the Dragon’s Lair. However, I read somewhere (or saw in a TR2 developer stream, I can’t remember) that they’re actually based on a Chinese myth of floating islands (I can’t remember where the real ones were meant to be) containing either the gods’ or dragons palaces which IRL are the result of an optical illusion and/or mountain fog. (Dragons in Asia are seen as lucky & godlike, mostly benevolent beings unlike their western depictions) To ancient civilisations, such a phenomenon would be seen as divine and/or magical. So Lara was probably exploring a hidden mountainside or a cavern above the volcano under the wall ala the TRAE versions of Coliseum and Palace Midas, with her witnessing the floating island illusion first hand.
I had never played Tomb Raider when I was younger I was only interested in Resident Evil and I downloaded it in the morning and this video made me more excited.
Bro what a coincidence. I'm getting back into classic tomb raider and this shows up. Hell yeah thanks. Also check out the tomb raider 2 multiplayer mod. Its so cool and fun to play with friends
The last level took place in her mansion where you have to fight off invaders. There was also an easter egg cutscene inspired the nude raider chest urban legend where she is about to take a shower and before taking her bathrobe off she breaks the fourth wall by saying “don’t you think you’ve seen enough” before shooting you.
I'm 32 and I REMEMBER in tomb raider there was this rumor that in Lara's pool in her mansion there was a statue with a trident, if you jump JUST right you could rip her shirt off! WE BELIEVED THIS! And I spent at least 30 to 60 mins. Trying this... 😂🤣😂🤣 just the TECHNOLOGY alone to "rip" a shirt off wasn't even a thing back then other than in movie sequences.😂
Lmao I grew up believing rumors like that of old games too and wasted my time trying to ‘’ make it happen’ and discovering it was all lies! 😂 People just make shit up.. That’s how it is when there’s no internet to show proof on these things lol... 😂
On 6:10, that's a bit of a stretch on that argument. The reason why she's back on the Great Wall is because the first level ends with her near the closed door that gives access to that sacrificial chamber (and that whole level inside the Great Wall). From that point on, she changes her quest to find the dagger(?) that supposedly opens that door, same object that the antagonist is searching for and eventually finds first, then prompting them to return there. Still, since they are way inside and under the Great Wall, that place is really likely some sort of alternate/parallel dimension. GJ on the vid!

With the Great Wall. It wasn’t just wear and tear. Some villagers used to dismantle or take the stone/bricks from the wall and used it to make houses or huts out of them.
Incredible game. I spent many hours sat at my PC, curtains closed, sound turned up, scared to death and being absolutely rubbish at this game. But damn it was amazing. I'm glad I had most games like this on PC though as they looked so much better than the console versions.

I never finished this game back in the day. I think it was a combination of being really difficult and me moving on to other things. I was stuck on the level, The Deck. It wasn't until over a decade later that I would stumble on Badassgamez's walkthroughs and actually finished it. Then I went on to finish TR5 and 3 with No med packs and finding all the secrets. I'm about halfway through TR4, but haven't touched it in a while.
Tomb raider chronicles on pc had a second cd level editor theres a website that people have uploaded there own old skool tomb raider games some of which are amazing
Kai did it again... amazing video of my favourite game in the franchise! Didn´t know about the weapon glitch...that looks VERY useful. Greetings from Argentina!!
1:34 I always thought I was one of the few people who did this. But I was blown away that everyone had put Winston in the Freezer lol. I was too young to be using the Internet so I didn't know til' many years later hahaha
It's worth mentioning, and most people may know this, but if you put the PlayStation Disc in your CD player you get the entire soundtrack to listen to. I used to listen to the electro drum snowmobile track all the time 🎶
One more thing to add to the tibetian outfit: she wasnt planning on going to tibet. She found out she had to just after comming up from the sunken ship and found a jacket on the plane. I mean, it has an in game explanation. Not saying they couldnt give her pants too, but just that. Also on TR3, when she goes to the Antartida (prepared) she wears pants.
I love how you're branching out into other game series. This was a very interesting, unexpected and enjoyable video you made. keep up the good work man and have a good one!
@@no.402 haha why do you say that? It died with TR 2013? It wasn't a bad series. It's a little different but still good. I do miss the classic Lara Croft Tomb Raider though
In the remaster, in the level "Wreck of the Maria Doria," you can see severally pictures of the Titanic. It's presumed to be the Titanic, but could be the Olympic as well.
The Andrea Doria sunk off the coast of the US, not Italy. It was an italian ship on the Genoa - New York City route, yes, but it collided with the Stockholm less than a day before reaching NY.
One of the best chapters of this game was The Wreck of Maria Doria, imo. The ambience was fantastic for 90s. I wish I could play a remake of this chapter. I can't imagine exploring an upside-down shipwreck with Lara with 2021 graphics.
I always somehow knew the maria doria was inspired by the Titanic ship cause many of the architexture and level design reminded me of the Titanic. The stern looks so much like the Titanic in many ways
Huh. Did NOT expect a look at oldraider from this channel. Not complaining, 1 and 3 turn into actual cronenberg horror and 2's jade dimension deserves more attention from PS1 horror fans. Good video yes :)
I know if you pop the ps1 disk into a regular CD player, you can listen to all the in game music. There's a secret track also of a remix version of the title track.
I just hope the next instalment of the series give more classic tomb raider fantasy element (like trex, mystical world, yeti, or any that unrelastic crazy thing) that the classic tomb raider had. Don't ge me wrong, I love the crystal dinamics Reboot series, they bought a lot of new mechanics, instresting characther and some of survival element that I very enjoyed. but I just missed the feel of fighting wolf, tiger, T-Rex, even the yeti, or floating statues
I remember when this game came out and going to rent it from Hollywood Video lol. Good times, I really do miss this Lara, I mean the new Tomb Raider games are ok but they don't really give me the same ooh and ah feeling like these ones did.
I loved this game and loved this video. As a kid, I knew basically everything except the window glitch. Too bad the movies weren't based off the more interesting parts in the games, because their plots really suffered imo.
Damn I still haven’t finished this great game! I need to get around to it! I always loved this game growing up but some sections were pretty tough and frustrating(although fun) so I never got through it fully... but I will now!
I actually remember a friend told me that the exploding cheat code was really the code for all weapons and level skip. But I could not get it right and made Lara explode all the time. Will you be making a video about TR3 as well?
@@MarsPriest No, you are wrong. Real life is not the same as in game. The in-game ones are silver. If they are supposed to be stone, they should be a darker grey, not bright and shiny.
I just noticed that Nathan Drake wears a very similar brown jacket in Uncharted 2 in Tibet. I wonder if that is a reference. I appreciate that you mentioned Nude Lara. Among us kids back then there was a rumor that when you collect every dragon figure, you get to see Lara shower in the end.
the PRAYER WHEEL is a total reference to the the movie "The Golden Child" starring Eddie Murphy, is an action-comedy i think from the 80s, Murphy has to go to the tibet and roll the "Prayer Wheel" to talk to the monks

I always thought I was one of the few people who did this.
But I was blown away that everyone had put Winston in the Freezer lol. I was too young to be using the Internet so I didn't know til' many years later hahaha
I've waited for this video for ages! Yes, Kai!
Weird! I just played a Tomb Raider game for my channel and busy editing it, and now this shows up?? Awesome, bro. As always, great content! 😁
I don't know why but I have a feeling old tomb raider and new tomb raider videos are about get a lot more views
Ah so happy you have finally done some more Tomb Raider stuff! One of my fave TR games ever! :D
13:07 Lara in pieces
I love the little background music you play at 12:00, Thats the same sound that plays on one of the Demo Discs on the PS1!
So many childhood memories unearthed.
Thanks for sharing.
Gonna dust off my PS1 now.
Tomb Raider 2 holds a special place in my heart, as it was a demo version of Venice that was my introduction to the series.
I love how you're branching out into other game series. This was a very interesting, unexpected and enjoyable video you made. keep up the good work man and have a good one!
I just started playing Tomb Raider (2013) for the first time, just an hour beforehand you posted this
It's a good game. Was addicted to it. Couldn't stop playing it until I beat it!
When the series died
@@no.402 haha why do you say that? It died with TR 2013?
It wasn't a bad series. It's a little different but still good. I do miss the classic Lara Croft Tomb Raider though
What i love about TR 2013 is that it feels like im playing Uncharted which is a way better. Nathan Drake is a cooler protagonist
@@Brytz Uncharted is better? I've never played it
In the remaster, in the level "Wreck of the Maria Doria," you can see severally pictures of the Titanic. It's presumed to be the Titanic, but could be the Olympic as well.
always love your content dude, be it resident evil - or any game from the 90s
There's an album on tidal called tomb raider. It's a selection of music from the first 3 games played by the royal philharmonic. Worth a listen.
Thank you for this!
@@RyanKathryn 🙂
That demo 1 soundtrack near the end hit me hard.
The secret statues can give you guns other than the grenade launcher if you don't have a certain gun by that point.
My favorite of TR series! This needs a remake !!!!
I always somehow knew the maria doria was inspired by the Titanic ship cause many of the architexture and level design reminded me of the Titanic. The stern looks so much like the Titanic in many ways

The Andrea Doria sank off the coast of Nantucket.
She left Italy heading to New York.
I frickin love Venice violins.
I also thought about how nice it would be to get a remake of the old games.
My favorite TR game.
🥰
I can't believe I just heard Judith Gibbins say "Weeeee"
🥰🤣🤣🤣🤣
Only one of the best game series ever! Love the vid!
First 3 are my favourite 💜✌🏻
@@jordiix such good games !
@@ReeganDalli yeah man my childhood makes me feel old 😂✌🏻
@@jordiix hahaha I'm turning 18 but it was still by childhood
@@ReeganDalli try 28 i remeber it on store shelves and queueing to buy it 😂✌🏻
I just hope the next instalment of the series give more classic tomb raider fantasy element (like trex, mystical world, yeti, or any that unrelastic crazy thing) that the classic tomb raider had. Don't ge me wrong, I love the crystal dinamics Reboot series, they bought a lot of new mechanics, instresting characther and some of survival element that I very enjoyed. but I just missed the feel of fighting wolf, tiger, T-Rex, even the yeti, or floating statues
TR2 is both hard and creepy. Love the vibe of that game. good times back in 1998!
I remember when this game came out and going to rent it from Hollywood Video lol.
Good times, I really do miss this Lara, I mean the new Tomb Raider games are ok but they don't really give me the same ooh and ah feeling like these ones did.
Ah Nude Raider, fire of my teenage loins. What an impact these games had on me in kindling an adventurous spirit. Thanks Kai
I loved this game and loved this video. As a kid, I knew basically everything except the window glitch. Too bad the movies weren't based off the more interesting parts in the games, because their plots really suffered imo.
Well, until the corner glitch. Didn't know that one. So less than 50% :/
I love the way the only English word the Tibetan monks seem to know is "DIEEEE!"
I've gone through my whole life and haven't played any of the Tomb Raider games. Hope to see a playthrough of one of the games on the channel one day!
You should give them ago
Perhaps a livestream soon 👀
@@InkRibbon OMG YES!
@@InkRibbon I don't think that it was until The Xbox 360 when DLC was available for Video Game Consoles but I might be Wrong about that
The grey dragon statue secrets are not stone: they’re silver.
@@MarsPriest No, you are wrong. Real life is not the same as in game. The in-game ones are silver. If they are supposed to be stone, they should be a darker grey, not bright and shiny.
I love these types of videos!
Memorable Tomb Raider II levels: EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM
I just noticed that Nathan Drake wears a very similar brown jacket in Uncharted 2 in Tibet.
I forgot how young when I played this game, probably one of the first gaming experience I had with Warcraft 3 and Hercules. This game was fun but I didn't understand anything. Winston freaked me out. I loved going around the manor but everytime he would enter the room I would panic and flee!

Actually it was perfectly clear because the Titanic is 2 miles down.
No one will survive crush depth. Just ask the Titan.
