I know that I have commented previously, but after watching this performance many times, I want to mention that it is best described, in my opinion, as youthful exhilaration. Rex Smith did an absolutely amazing job on this performance of one of my favorite Journey songs, "Faithfully". Your leadership as Musical Director, shined brightly as gold and was and still is phenomenal. Rex did a lot of excellent duets with Marilyn McCoo that season that really made their mark and still do as well due to the outstanding team effort that made it all come together then, now, ever.
From July 23/83 I believe. Great performance arranged and produced by Solid Gold's very talented musical director. These performances were definitely highlights of each show.
This performance by Rex Smith of the 1983 Journey song, "Faithfully", is a stellar production from season 3, 1982-1983, of "Solid Gold". Your arrangement, Michael, and production of this performance, with all the musicians and background singers, brought out the best in Rex Smith. This is the best performance by him on "Solid Gold" that I have ever seen to date. I admit that I had missed it when it had aired on television, so thank you, thank you, thank you, for bringing it alive on your RUclips channel. It is a crystal clear video and the sound, although monoaural, sounds stereo on a small smartphone that has built-in stereo speakers. The vibrato of Rex Smith is very present throughout this performance. He had been in "The Pirates Of The Penzance" on Broadway and a late 1970s and early 1980s teen idol singer. He and Marilyn McCoo did a lot of beautiful duets and we're a good pairing as co-hosts. Additionally, Rex did a lot of wonderful solos as did Marilyn during their 1982-1983 season as co-hosts together. This performance, I think, must have done Steve Perry, then the lead singer of Journey, and the entire band very proud to have gotten the "Solid Gold" treatment.
@bigeyezzzzzzz You are very welcome, Michael. Thank you for being there to help put it all together for the "Solid Gold" television series and again for your RUclips channel. Watching these makes me look back on that era as a golden era for music that some of us youngsters at the time thought would keep on going. A lot of the modern current stuff is nowhere near as good as gold, but the pendulum appears to be slowly swinging back to listenable music again through the young people, such as those you mentor.
@@bigeyezzzzzzz special thank you for posting these 80's clips from television series Solid Gold. I watched American Bandstand & Weekly Top 10 countdown every weekend.

Your DNA and yuor tone of voice are in tune. The timbre is filled without gaps. It shines without any awkward parts. Bravo.
