I have used this on 25-pound airplanes. While I don't know the maximum weight capacity, I have made these for other modellers who use them on 30-35 pound. airplanes.
The Aluminum I use is "6061". Hardness, Brinell 95, Ultimate Tensile strength 88000 psi. Application Aircraft fittings. It's readily available from metal shops.

Something to be said for buying a ready made gear. Although once you try making your own you'll find it pretty easy. The best part it will be a custom fit for your model. :)
@rcflyingwithrick yeah I've never had a project where the dubro gear would work. I got a project in working on now that will need custom gear. I'll try it on that one.
