SCHNEIDER SLIDER!!! FIFTH WHEEL FAIL??

- Hello Ladies & Gentlemen and as always, thank you for watching!!! I hope my viewers are enjoying the new 4K videos!!! Today, I take our flagship Peterbilt 389-X, Miller Industries, Century 1150R heavy rotator towing and recovery unit #11 to assist a customer who is having a little trouble with their fifth wheel. When the driver pulls away after performing his tug test, the trailer drops off the truck during the turn. Thankfully, it was at slow speed. Containers are always trouble for towing and recovery companies and this one proves to be no different. There is a reason they are called "wrecker killers". None of that here, though and no injuries. Just a slight little leaning problem to solve. I hope you all enjoy this video!!! Thanks for watching and God bless!!!

My common analogy, "there are many ways to reach 10". I could have approached this (any) job several different ways. The approach method is important, but more important is achieving the desired result, safely.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!!

When my mom and her second husband were driving from Utah to Pennsylvania about 35 years ago, their vehicle died in the middle of nowhere. A Schneider driver stopped and then gave them a ride to the nearest garage, and made sure they were getting help before he left. I’ve thanked every Schneider driver who has crossed my path ever since.
NEVER trust a tug check ALWAYS look at.the jaw’s with a flash light
Exactly. Hopefully this driver learns from this.
Always every time.
That's right over my years otr driving I've had a few that wouldn't trip when the went full back in the catch, and some that wouldn't release too among the best were the oe brockway fifth wheels just had to maintain them. The cheaper pressed metal ones seemed to have more issues before I decided to become more local. And dropped to a B license
Nice lift Ron.
Still, can’t blame the driver he did do everything right
42:12 For those wondering, the yellow wheeled stand to the left of the trailer Ron is walking towards is a nose support stand that keeps a trailer in dock from falling forwards when being loaded by large, extremely heavy forklifts...
I’ve seen 28ft pups tipped.
Passed by Miller Industries on my way home from Maryland. Multi Multi millions of equipment visible from highway!
I like it when we see you do these jobs on your own Ron, your 100% total focus and concentration for the task in hand is a real joy to watch.
Keep up the great work.
David in the UK.
First time I saw you channel like the way you do things I like your rig and yeah I figured lifting differently too but your voice was a good on nice video enjoyed the content sharp wrecker thanks Ron
Amen!
You’re about the only channel I watch anymore
You are a good teacher
Ron, as always, I appreciate your manners and professionalism. I am a supervisor and try to keep it as PG as possible. But, compared to you and your team, I fall short. Stay safe and great work.
Ron, your etiquette finger hanging out makes these the most classy recoveries I have seen. Good for at least a chuckle every time.
Good morning Ron. Thank you for your continued interesting and educational videos. Have a great weekend
Great job Ron. My last job I had before I retired Was driving a yard dog it was nice not having to round the dollies up and down just step out the back door and hook-up the brake lines and get back in and release them and raise the fifth-wheel and take off. Put it were you needed it and put it down unhook and you was done with that one. The only time I had any problems was when someone dropped a trialer and we got some snow and it made it set to low for me to get under it. But we had big
Forklift and most of the time if the guy that drove it could get beside it he could lift it up so I could get under it.
God bless you.
Dan 🇺🇸
Good morning everyone …
Very well done, Ron. We are always amazed at how quickly you can assess the situation and come up with a solution. Have a good day and God bless!
Hasn't been a job he hasn't figured out! Definitely makes it interesting to watch 💪
@@bigchevy350boy🎉😚🫣😏
I always check my jaws. I had a trailer fall off the 5th wheel in the yard. I got the shop guys to see the jaws where still locked. They helped me get it up. Then they turn that big nut in the front. No more lost trailers. Get your 5th checked for play.
Good job Ron , shows that there is alot of different ways to rig a container on a trailer .
In the tow truck I drove , we put our different length slings and straps in their own bags . The bags had what they were and lengths wrote on them . Made it alot easier to just get the bag out , with what I needed . Also made the tool boxs look neater .
Hopefully it may help you if you hadn't thought of it or considered it previously
Congrats on 500k subscribers. 🎉
Good morning Ron hope everything is going well. Prayers for your family and all your employees and family. Have a blessed weekend and stay safe
Hi Ron, watching you maneuver with your extended pinkie reminded me of my later grandmother. She was part of a research team in Johannesburg, South Africa, that developed the vaccine for Polio. She was involved in a laboratory incident which resulted in the bones in her pinkie being fused. She always looked so elegant when she drank a cup of tea,
I hope your injury heals and gives you full functionality.
Keep the videos coming. I enjoy watching your analysis of the situation and then implementing the solution.
I watching your videos and I have my bells on your videos and I'm subscribed to your videos and 👍
Everyone's an armchair critic. Your equipment, you're truck, you're job and your responsibility I think the way you did the job and use of equipment was great. Great video. Thanks for taking the time. He did it his way
Plenty of these armchair critics probably haven't worked in the industry. Also could be jealousy from a rollback operator.
16:17 it’s amazing how you can do something safe, and complete it successfully, and people on the internet will still tell you you did it wrong. Lol
Good job Ron!
Yea but you assume it was open after the high hook. I’m betting the high hook closed the fifth wheel
High hitches are common in the container world. Schneider has a pretty good set up on their container trucks. They cut the framehorns back to the last x member and mount the mudflap brackets at 45°. This allows them
To set the 5th wheel forward so the steer axle can get 12000 on it
And keeps frame strikes down on the chassis.
I'd love to do that to my truck.
Boss won't let me.
It's about more than just weight. It's also about limiting drag to save fuel.
@@memyself7419 yep. I'm a "can hauler" as well. My specialty is 20' iso tanks boxes and permitted overweights. on 40' tri axle chassis. Nothing about what I do is aerodynamic I'm ecstatic when I can get 6 mpg. Schneider bobbed rear end and a JB HUNT neck 40' tandem chassis
Set up tanker spec light is a dream of mine. 51' 5 axle bridge.
Help Ron nice work 👍👍😊
No hello Ron nice work 👍😄
If everyone did it the same way, it would be boring
The best way is the safest way to get the job done. Great video Ron.
Watching you work Mr. Ron Pratt. Is like watching a piece of Art. You treat every job with such professionalism, Precision
and patience. Its very great to see as a tow recovery operator myself in Beautiful upstate New York. As always great recovery! I always tell the drivers I encounter to check with a flash light then perform the tug test. I’ve recovered a fed ex frieght trailer and tractor that had a similar situation. Job well done Sir!
Good videos your good job
Good morning Ron and everyone.
Schneider slider! Always loved the names you come up with for titles !
Interesting problem, Ron. You and your "baby" did well. Stay safe out there!!
The wonder man with his wonder truck makes it safe again! Fun to watch!
Random funny story for ya Ron... Last weekend I needed to buy myself a ladder to finish decorating the bedroom, so off i went to the DIY shop.. i asked one of the shop assistants where the "short ladies helpers" were.. he replied "you must watch Ron too" lmao. worlds a small place sometimes i guess.. what are the odds? had to share!!
8°😂😂, love your channel and the diversity of your job. Much love from The Netherlands.
Enjoyed the video. Driver was super nice. Other guy was right there with paper work. Glad it was a successful job for you. Have a nice day. May God bless you, your family and your business.
Yes Sherry I agree on all points. I also enjoyed in the first few moments, when the kid asked "what are you thinking" and then traced the hookup of the lift lines and followed the procedure. I do hope this is mechanical failure, he seemed like a good and sharp lad, either way he learned a lot. 从 m
"More than one way to skin a cat"! Love how you are lifting from the bottom right next to the sign that says "TOP LIFT ONLY". 🤣 Thanks for the video.
Good job Ron...! Multiple way to get to ten...! 👍👍Always glad to see a nice safe location to work in... !
When you were pulling out rigging I noticed that you checked the weight limit on the straps, even though I'll bet you've got it all memorized. Good professionalism.
Based on what I've seen / with some inferences, Ron seems to have 4 different infinite loop "models", 2 different strengths (which seem to be denoted by color, I know the chains have a similar system), and 2 lengths (8' and 20'). In other videos Ron's reading the labels aloud to check the lengths, so there doesn't seem to be an easy way to check the length at a glance when they're all in a pile in the box (obviously it's immediately apparent if he took them out of the box, but that'd take longer).
@@Underscore11 Straps have either different colours or a different number of stitching lines on them to denote their weight capacities.
You see folks, he teach those pictures for his scrapbooks Ron is still a kid at heart
Good work, Ron. It might take a while because you’re so safety minded but you and your truck get it done and that’s a good thing being safety minded.
Don't worry what others say, they weren't yhere doing the left, you were! & you did a great job!
An interesting turn of events. Glad everyone was OK. It could be driver error or equipment failure either way the trailer didn't stay where it was supposed to & Ron you did it the best way you knew how sir good work.
That's right teamwork makes the dream work Ron
I always enjoy watching your problem solving skills in action. I see the finger is still wrapped. It would probably heal faster if you didn't use it😉 Thank you for sharing another interesting video. Please stay safe, and God bless.
I have seen that king pin break off then the unit pulled away and the trailer dropped to the floor ,thanks for the video
Good afternoon Ron hope u & ur family/crew has a great day! Stay safe out there. Much love
Stay safe out there Ron!
Great professionalism, equipment and skill! Top notch!
Always a pleasure watching you
Another awesome job Ron you are a hard worker Excellent job
Very interesting I never knew this could happen wow!!everytime this old woman watches something new to see and learn love your videos👍
I miss the driving portions.
Stay safe Ron and crew!
Another great video. Thank you Ron keep up the good work.
I pick up loads out of that p&g all the time! Awesome video!!
"Many ways to reach 10," but I think that was the simplest, safest and most reliable way.
In my opinion we should not critique you because we are not there even if we did your type of work. You are very professional in your work and have pride and hart in your work another awesome video. Denis from Santa Rosa CA
Good morning, Ron. That is one dry fifth wheel. I bet there is nothing wrong with it. Driver error only
Hi Ron, luv watching your channel. Like yourself,I had a garage and used to do recovery work.Nice to see good safe operating.
If I ever end up around your way Ron, my oldest would love to see tator up close. Considering that you’d have time and would allow my 8yo to see your facility. All he talks about is “I want to be a tow operator like Ron”. He knows all the specs of the rotator. And he loves rigging. I bet if you were able to simulate a roll over he could tell you almost exactly how you would rig it up without you giving him any hints/clues.
God Bless.
Well done Ron, "KEEP ON TRUCKIN' "
👍Good job Ron, thanks for sharing. :)
Awesome lift surprised you didn't bring a helper 😊😊😊😊
Like how you made it look so easy to get your line around to the far side. They say top load only for a reason which I know nothing about but you obviously know the equipment far better than I do.
It's all down to the way the container is constructed - when lifting the container on its own the lower points are not stressed for lifting only holding. Ron was using the 5th wheel "pad" to take the load.
I had a high hook the 1st week i was out here on my own. I did a 37 point turn to get the angle of the truck enough where i was able to get kingpin to clear the skid plate. It was diffiicult with no damage but i sure did learn a lesson.
Enjoyed the video Ron! keep them coming and I will keep watching.
Another great job Ron mate you're the man
What Beautiful cloud formations at the end of the day.
Hey Ron, do you think the boom cam will make an appearance anytime soon? Appreciate customers come first of course so it may not be practicable to get set up. Enjoying your videos from this side of the pond! 🇬🇧 😎👍
Another great video Ron. Thanks for sharing. God bless
Yep, I heard the high RPM. You are amazing Good Sir.
Great video, always enjoy the ride along on your adventures, No trafficor ARC chances here
I love your vids! Keep up the great work! Love the channel!
I like that you thought about using the under reach first. I had this thing happen when I was a spotter. We used the spotter to ease under and lift it. We successfully lifted it, cranked the dolly's down and the original carrier was able to back up underneath it and hook back up. He didnt have a bad 5th wheel, just missed the hook up.
Great job and I had the same thing back heard it go in looked at it cked pulled up a little didn't catch had to leave and 5th wheel fixed
I'm glad no one got hurt 😊😊
Another perfect recovery! It was Eazy Peazy! Stay safe.
Another fabulous job done. Great Job Ron!!
Looking like another excellent job Ron!
Good Morning Ron and Crew this could have been a SWIFT run lol hope all have a great and safe day working , ps I drove for them back in the late 70s
Another great Job Ron
This is a great opportunity to show why a tug test inst a good process. You should always use a visual inspection. Laziness does not pay off
Nice to have a standard Ron video again :)
High hook is an automatic termination at Schneider. They are 100% preventable if you follow procedure.
thank you for sharing with us God Bless have a Blessed day.
Awesome video thanks for sharing
I have done a high hook and I had to crank on granny speed till I got the king pin high enough to clear then crank back down. Got my heart rate up that day.
I just joined your youtube channel and I'm very curious what I'm going to see have a nice day Ron.
Keep up the good work love watching you on RUclips god bless
Wonderful job Ron
Trailer says "TOP LIFT ONLY" ... Ron says "forget that!" 😛
Much thanks Ron.

LINDO TRABALHO.....OBRIGADO POR COMPARTILHAR.......
I knew a guy that drove for Yellow and was driving through a neighborhood with his truck for a delivery and he said he noticed the power company was working on the overhead lines. As he turned the corner his trailer caught the power lines and they started popping off the rooftops until they got him to stop. He told me that was the first time that had ever happened. It spooks me when you park your truck so close to an object when you lift but I also know it's better to do that for balance with a weight load.
Back in the 80 s one of the company trucks we worked on ripped the cable from a neighborhood bar just hours before Monday Night Football
@@Rocketboy991 ooof bet they weren't happy
@@Rocketboy991lol. Cable TV wire is easy to fix.
That freespoolingthing was really smart! 👍
Thanks you for the video ,Nice job .
Awesome as always! I really enjoy your videos
Hey Ron I just wanted to say that a few days ago was my last run doing over the road driving and I got to pick up in cape Girardeau and it was cool being here in person one day I hope to get the chance to meet you but until then keep making great videos 😁
I think it is the beep sound from the boom. Thats very loud to hear Ron!
I really do like the tator and you're videos 🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️ God bless
Smart idea!
Nice job Ron.
Hmm. not to speculate too much, or call the driver a liar there, but that nice curved path in the grease seems to indicate that the trailer was sitting on top of the 5th wheel when it fell off the side. Mistakes happen though, just part of being human.
Great video keep up the good work God bless from GA
Nice smooth job!👏👏👏👏
