Pre-filter is used for extreme weather conditions, preventing main filter from soaking and freezing up (cloaging), pre-filter is made of water-resistant material. In normal cases there is no need for pre-filter, no need to worry if new filter does not have it.
That pre-filter is basically just a piece of a kitchen hood filtering fleece, as far as I learned from my past 10 years with a renault, this type of filter is used as a snow screen in colder climates / areas with lots of snow (nordic countries I guess). In milder climate, an ordinary air filter will do just fine. Let the K9K beast breathe 😁
Yes, that is the reason some filters have pre-filter (extreme weather conditions). In normal cases it does not matter if new filter comes with or without pre-filter.
👍👍👍 Thank you. I believe the engineers and designers should have to work on the vehicles, in the real world for 12 months. Perhaps then it wouldn't be such a pain to do even the simplest jobs.
Thank you for making the air filter video, I wouldn't have had a clue or where to begin in how to change it. I have just bought a 2010 renault scenic mk3 ph1 and I like to do a full service for peace of mind. Also could you help my fog lights at the front of my car are not working, I have changed the bulbs and the switch lights up but no fog lights. Could you show a video for how to check the fuse in the engine bay please. Gary from County Durham.
Thanks Gary I'm glad that the video will help you. Don't forget to check out the oil change video for this car also. It's not normally something I would do a video for but leave it with me if I can't slip it into a channel update video I'm planning soon then I will endeavour to help you here.
Thanks looking forward to your next video and update. Your a great help with the Renault scenic (Sally) so far. I haven't give my car a name yet but will have to think of one. Cheers again. Gary.
Thanks ove changed before nut motocross the sag on the skuttle tray. It's a poor design putting the brake reservoir on such a frequently removed and flexible item. Every car I've seen had it fixed to the side or rear bodywork. Renault really have poor engineers just look at the pollen filter location requiring removal of the clutch pedal. It'll bey last ever Renault for various reasons inc yet another p0096 temp inlet sensor 2 warning that I've unable to get fixed
Absolutely stupid design having to take apart the scuttle panel and brake hydraulic reservoir just to replace a so common serviceable filter. Now I know why the driver side scuttle peg on my scenic has been broken by a previous owner / garage. Every other vehicle I've ever owned has had the filters very easily accessible and replaceable with tools required.
The design of the Renault Scenic windscreen drain is an abomination. Whoever designed it should have been fired. The words French and Engineering should not be used in the same sentence.
Excellent clear and nicely filmed instructions by someone who knows what he is doing 👍
You are Very well spoken and know your stuff. Thanks so much

Great video. genuine OEM Renault air filter is PURFLUX A1314 . Personally, for 1.5dCi I prefer MAHLE LX 1748 .
Great video. Simply explained. Well done. Thank you from the Emerald Isle.

I agree, I don't mind burying things that should in theory last the life of the vehicle, but servicing items should be instantly accessible.
really helpful thanks, just watched your oil change vid too. much appreciated
Thanks! You are the best!!!
Hello S&S, loving the vids regarding the SIII ( I have an 2011, 200k) if you would like another challenge?! Try changing the cabin pollen filter...
I have considered it but believe it would be nightmare to film due to tight access.
@@SocketsAndSideburnsIt is not that bad, even if you do not remove the glove box.
Super Video and sehr leicht! Renault ist eine Katastrophe bei den Servicearbeiten.
❤❤😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you very much!!
Excelent video. question though, does this filter the air that mixes with the diesel?????
Yes it is the engine air filter.

Push the wiper stalk all the way down for the wipers to get into service position.

Ok. All this for a air filter... I am going to cry myself to sleep... Bye now😢😢
What a pain in the butt just to change a stinking filter....😯

I have to agree there. Every time I take it off I'm shaking my head.
What a poor design. Never by Renault !
