DIY - Patio Screen Door Adjustment & Lube
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 сен 2016
- This DIY video demonstrates how to clean, lube and adjust the wheels on a screen door so that it slides without binding and so it stays on the track. The only tool required is a Phillips ("cross") screw driver.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I cleaned the track and put the wheel back in the track and adjusted it properly. Thank you.
Thanks for this, I fixed our very poorly running screen in half an hour. That tip about running the wheel over a screwdriver is fantastic!
OMG ! Merci, merci, merci !!! You surely saved my day, and lots of frustration in my summer (and a divorce, for my hubby abandoned trying to deal with the screen door and becomes impossible to bare haha - now let your wife repair this, honey !). When I got the door out, I saw that we had one wheel ok. Others 3 were closed in the door, like if there is a spring missing for them to stay out like the one that looks ok. And it's dirty in there ! I'll have a better idea when I get his clean, but if there is a missing part I may order wheels, I imagine that it's the thing to do... The door was "working" but not properly since we bought the house 8 years ago. I'll make it work with your help ! Huge thanks from Québec province !
Thanks! I’ve watched many, many sliding screen door videos, and this is by far the best. I got the tracks and wheels cleaned and adjusted, and, for the first time, the little screws at the tops and bottoms of the door made sense!
Thanks for the positive feedback.
I'm so happy I came across your DYI screen door! I didn't know there were screws that you could adjust. I just adjusted the bottom and the door shuts flush. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I looked a a couple of other videos that only gave a simple “put the wheels in the track” explanation and my screen door still wasn’t operating correctly. Once I applied everything in your video, my screen door works properly, gliding smoothly and not coming off the track anymore.
Yes ! Your detailed video covers pretty much everything a DIY guy needs to tackle to sliding screen door issues. Congrats ! Almost 4 years late to the party :)
I've been trying to take my door off for over ten years and the putty knife trick got it off. Now she's rolling sweet. Thanks X 10 !
Thanks so much!!! This video was informative and easy to understand.I had the same problem with the track being bent. The file worked well. I wouldn't have known what to do about that bent track. I fixed my screen door and now it works PERFECTLY!!!
Just got done rescreening my door. Took it out in the spring. My Dad passed away, and it's just been sitting there. I NEED the cool air at night. So, I'm proud of myself for that, but do I remember how I got it out? Dumb luck I think! 😋 Once I watched your video I was so happy it was so easy!! Stupid screen took me 2 hrs. (hey, I'm old, my first one). But Bless you Sir for helping the person that does things because they have to, not because they dig it. 🤗 I subscribed. Have a feeling I'm going to be needing more help.
Thanks for this vid.I fooled around with this screen for an hour until I found this .Easy peasy and took 5 minutes.!
Wow! So many details that will come in handy when trying to fix my sliding screen door! Thank you so much!
Excellent no more squeaking wheels & doors came off so easy now 👏🏻 Thank You 😘
Thanks for this real-world repair complete with ripping the weatherstripping, trouble getting the door off the track and adjustment fine tuning.
I like the video a lot because you were using the right tools to get job done plus even when you tore part of the material from your screen door, you still did a great job keeping together. I learned some-thing new because of you to day, keep up the good work.
Thanks for the encouragement.
This is a big help for me to fix my screen sliding door problem. Thank you for sharing this diy fix. Awesome!!!
Can’t wait to try this on my screen door this weekend
Thanks for lube tip. It works great during cold conditions!
Hi Mr. DiyGuy. Thank you for taking the time to post this video. Very informative and good camera work too! Hope your leg healed up after the cat got to your leg.
Great video; spot on! Thanks for this. I am working this exact project on my home right now, and you just saved me a lot of angst!
Thanks so much! Your video showed me exactly what I needed to do....Perfect!!
Finally made ours work reasonably well this morning. The video did it! I went to two of my local 'everything you need stores' and neither of them had new wheels of the right size nor did they have new 'corners'. Amazon claims to but you have to take the door apart to see which are the right ones. Next time maybe I'll just buy a new door!
This video was extremely helpful! Thanks so much for posting it!
What a great video! I had no idea how to remove my screen door!! Thank you!!
Thank you very much for the tutorial. You have saved me tones of money!
Yeah, because it costs tons to adjust a screen door.
rodger rain Its fun to hear a reply 2 years later! Screen door still working ok! Thanks again!
Thank you so much , for a great video,. After watching the video I was able to fix my door, thank you
.
Appreciate the info! My door is sliding like, well, like, a SLIDING DOOR!!! Thank you!!!
I had a broken wheel on the bottom of a slider wheel. The wheel is spring loaded with coiled spring. I could not find this type on the tube. However, this video helped in adjusting the top and bottom tension screws well enough to operate the slider smoothly. Thank you very much for this video.
glad it helped you
Excellent video. Thanks
Left out the adjustment to square the door off with the jamb. When closing the screen door, need to align it with that jamb when closed. The adjustment to do that is in the wheels, just an additional step is needed if the gap at the jamb when the door is closed is different top to bottom. Maybe that adjustment wasn't necessary for this door, but not always the case. Good video, clearly presented.
Great video! Thank you.
Great video, super helpful. Thanks!
Screen door problem fixed!! Thank you very much for the video 😊👍
I'm super glad that the video helped you out.
Thanks, man. Another DIY gem.
Excellent video. Thank you.
BRAVO! Thank you, this helps a lot 😊
Thanks, got our old 70’s door rolling again. One tip, the wheels roll on the “rail” on the bottom of our door, and the top wheels fit in the slot. Don’t know if that’s universal, but a close up on the wheels going into the slots would be useful. Thanks again!
I liked it so much I gotta check out you other vids.
this was so helpful! thank you so much
Good video to fix the door. Thanks.
Helped me in 2022. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the video, I never had one of those rolling screen doors the apartment came with no screen, and a saw a neighbor put his rolling screen in the dumpster and I picked up and I'm traying to fixit
I learned a lot. Thank you!
Thank you. Did the trick. 34 year old slider
Thanks for the posting the video! I think I can tackle this.
That was so comprehensive. Thank you so much
Thanks for the encouragement to make more how-to videos
Thank you for the information.
Very informative. TY.
Very helpful, thanks!
Thank you excellent explanation .
Thank you. Very helpful.
thank you for getting me out of trouble from my dad.
Great! Should be all I need to know.
"bug right here --->" made me laugh, thanks. and, is the cat okay?
Great . Thank you so much.
Your cameraman is making me crazy!
Good job, thank you
I wish I could figure out how to keep it from coming off of the track when my 10 lb cat lunges at birds on the balcony. He almost went right over the balcony last week. 😢 It's our first time living in an upstairs apartment. He's never bothered screen doors before. Birds and squirrels were always around. I'm not to leave the slider fully open, but it's hot.
Is there anything that I can do to make it a little harder to come off of the tracks from a simple impact?
Thanks for your video!
My screen door is not big enough to stay in. I've adjusted the wheels and there is still too much gap. Are there wheels that have a higher wheel adjustment? I was thinking of putting dowel sticks in the track
Thank you!!
thank you thank you thank you!
Good job on the sliding door.. Thank you. Now I'm looking on the DIY Video for dealing with a Cat Attack. Vicious Canadian Cats. Ha....
Thank you! Video jumping makes me dizzy, though.
Thanks 😊
good for all
Thank-you for the roller video. Now about that cat........
Thank You.
mr diyguy my screen door wont come off the track. I adjusted the four screws counter clockwise, but only half of the door comes off. I cant access the stuck wheel as there is no room to get a putty knife under the wheel?
Thanks for the great video the title says something about Lube. but I don’t see anything about that in the video I’m wondering if silicon spray is the correct way but I don’t want to apply too much
Very good observation. Yes silicon lubes on the roller shaft is helpful. Don just spray lubes everywhere ot it will attract dirt. Equally important to live is vacuuming out the track to ensure rollers don't bind on debris while opening and closing. Let us know how you make out.
mr diyguy123 Yeah I completely cleaned the tracks out and Then I used a narrowed down vacuum adapter to increase the suction to Get all of that grime out of there
When I had the slider door off I realized that the bearings in the little wheels on the one side are completely blown out but the ones on the handle side are perfect and so it still makes the funny noise when it opens. I’m wondering if there’s a place I can order the wheels for an old slider that was installed in 1977? 🤣
Same concept for the main sliding door?
Just use a candle and run some wax on the bottom rail, this will make your sliding door run smoother without and any hang ups. I use this method to make my sliding door run smoother.
This and oil only attracts dirt and pet hair. You will end up Cleaning way too often. Personal experience
Hi thank you very much You Advise hard to adjust but your door can’t hear the reply
Merci
good video but please tell us how the adjustment screw works and what to do if turning the screw doesn’t force the wheel out - two of Mine dont work
They are likely dirty or stripped.
Top gun
Why did he not replace the worn- out wheel before putting the screen back up? That's what I was looking for. But hey, this grandma managed to figure it out. Beats buying a new screen door. Oh, and actually i needed and had a Robertson screwdriver ! Only in Canada , eh ? ( square hole)
You can used a putty knife for the bottom underneath the wheels and it pops out
Great idea
thanks, I moved into a house and had no clue how to get my screen door to work...
If wheel is partially broken..where to buy one?
Maybe Ebay or amazon
Skip to the end, learn about the screws!!!! It’s all about the wheel level🎉
ps, sure that wasn't a Bobcat? Ouch! Raised 7 Rotties, an Irish wolfhound/ pitt mix. (mother was the pittie). And a Tennesse Treeing hound dog. That was one vicious cat! 🤕
What part of Canada are you from?
I'm from Canada and I don't believe he is Canadian...he didn't use any duct tape!!
I caught that too. Nostalgic. 🇨🇦
Anyone knows how do I adjust if there is no screw.
I suggest taking the door completely off of the track and looking at the wheels closely to see if the assembly pulls out and unscrews and then slides back into place as possible adjustment mechanism
man that's IT? This has been a thing for like 3 years - all I had to do was look it up
I used dawn dish soap..
can you fix my slide door?
Most likely yes
I appreciate the video and the information is very good but the constant movement of the camera makes me dizzy and nauseous.
We get it... You're a bicyclist
Where are your shoes
I had steel toed socks on and didn't need shoes. ;)
Get oote!
I was attacked by a cat 🐈 earlier
Nah coz my screen door has no wheel so i am fucked
Bad CAt
HEY HEY CANT HEAR YOU
Same hear, I mean here.
Dead cat!
Your cat may need gabapentin, an anti-anxiety med (well, it's actually anti-seizure med, but also used for anxiety for humans and animals).
You need a new camera person!
I ended up buying a new GoPro with image stabilization. Problem solved
Excellent video!!!As a side note, Bug was heard saying: Hey, Mister, can you please go somewhere else to do your teaching videos???
I'm living up to my pest expectation...
Don't make it harder to get inside!!🐞🐞🐞🪲🐛
