- The AE82 Corolla FX16 GTS gets a cooling upgrade and sings again. The new radiator set up is so much cleaner now and seems to keep up with the 4AGE. The FX16 sings at night again but then more troubles show up :(

I never imagined that I could want a hatchback FWD more than another B series CRX, but wow your FX16 is one of a kind. Attention to detail and all the work put into it is crazy
i'm in the same boat as you well sort of, B18cR swapped EK, my cousin has a AE93, hasn't been running in a while but can't wait to hear the 4AGE sing alongside my B
There are a lot of awesome jdm hatches if you're willing to import just take my starlet for example if you're from USA no one knows what it is and is plenty fast with just a few upgrades
I forget how ugly the fx16 is when I spool that motor up. The gauges are awesome too.

Awesome! The AE82 is still an underappreciated platform so it's not to expensive to get one.
@@sushpants True! The only trouble is that I live in the rust belt so finding non-rusted specimens is a challenge unto itself 😅 But I’m still looking! If I can’t find anything soon I may just wait and import a clean AE111 BZR, it’s about the only suitable alternative to an AE82, and is also a pretty under appreciated platform (at least in the US… Evidently they’re pretty popular in New Zealand).

Yes and sound.! I did two dual Weber on mine back then.! And almost clean exhaust alle the way.. 🤣 everyone in my town absolutely loved me when I went to work in the morning 😂 best times.! I sometime look for a Corolla but they are all almost gone. Sadly

Im curious if you'd consider it an FX20 now that it has the Blacktop? Looks fun regardless! Im one sunny day of rad bleeding, Timing curve adjusting and valve shim fiddling away from doing the same thing in my AW11, this was motivating! I miss that sweet green gauge cluster

I would like to ask, what is the purpose of the steel plate next to the radiator? I thought more air flowing through the bay would help with cooling and feed the ITBs better.
I dig the four door! We didn't have a four door FX but we did get as the Chevrolet Nova TWINCAM. The plate is to seal around and force the air through the radiator, otherwise the air will flow around the radiator instead of through it.

Seeing you rev the shit out of it reminds me of when I had my ae111 blacktop and I too would rev the shit out of it. Fun cars to rev but not fast though. Faster than a standard car but it's all about them itb.
It's okay to not be the fastest around. I've driven plenty of cars that were faster but felt kind of meh to drive. The FX16 with the 20v is one of the most engaging cars I've ever driven.
Remove the aluminium plate and raise the hood a bit to lower engine bay temp.
Is the short radiator meant for a civic? Really cool set up. I wish my old but trusty ae92 sounded and ran like that!

Also how do you go about getting a proper nice condition engine imported? How did you go about getting yours back then? Thanks again for your great content.

I watched the pervious video about the leaking radiator but I don't get why you used the Honda Radiator when you can easily buy Mishimoto aluminium radiator for the AE82 which will drop straight in, which surely must make more sense.

What kind of hub/bearing replacements you going with/Timken? Good thing they didn't pop on thunderhill. Would've been really bad. Sick ride, didn't know yours goes to 8500rpm
I'm trying to get all Timken bearings. The 20v 4age blacktop is such a screamer and pulls hard all the way to redline. It's fun to see the tach needle dive past the original 4age's redline.
4age is the Honda version of VTEC 🤣🤣
Hi! Have you tried replacing the original thermostat that originally came with the engine? Just wanting to know what was the original position of the jiggle valve when you opened it up. 12o'clock? Or slightly to the left about in front of the upper housing bolt? Thanks in advance!

Where did you get the valve cover and the exhaust manifold cover
I painted the valve cover myself (I have a video on how I did it). The manifold cover from trackdog, a heat blanket for Miata header.

It's rolling on Bridgestone RE-71r's so the grip is a little higher than the original :D
Are those Drag DR-20 rims? I'm looking at a set for my very own FX16 GTS hoping to upgrade from enkei basketweave rims and I keep getting mixed results for the bolt pattern online. Thanks!
They are Drag DR-20s which are essentially reps of the Works Equip 03. The bolt pattern should be the typical 4x100.

Honestly get an anti-gravity battery or a Braille Li-ion and put it in the trunk in the center, you will be amazed at how much the weight of the battery in the front affects your corner entry, and unsprung weight
It's definitely in the plan. I know exactly how heavy that lead acid battery is.
It doesn't affect unsprung weight, only wheels, brakes, and hubs... Technically also bottom of suspension/shocks. Anything strapped or bolted to the chassis is sprung weight... The weight loss of moving and going to a lightweight battery setup will make a difference but not on unsprung weight
@@dannijacobsen8544 Yes thanks I meant sprung weight, I always get those terms mixed up lol. But yeah it does help alot with turn in and suspension load in the front, I've had cars where I have moved it and you could feel the difference, especially because the battery is mounted forward of the struts. I like how in Hondas they put the battery in the back of the engine bay

You should invest in a dimple kit for weight cutting the old girl. my goal on next car is to keep AC but remove the weight it is in body work chassis.. the cull to keep ac adventure

I threw the AC out back when I first did the swap and now regret it. Sucks to drive on hot days.
