Nigeria Will only make progress as a nation when justice and fairness to all are prioritized over tribalism, regionalism, and other such shallow ideologies.
AAAAAMEN!
👍🏾🙏🏾♥️🔥👊🏾
It’s not shallow, it’s centuries old. This country Stuff is brand new when you’re talking about the continent. The continent had tribes, nations, regions that were governed independently. You’re looking at this through the lens of the white man. Nigeria was not meant to be a country but a nation. You cannot blame the people for not wanting to assimilate. You should be proud! The one is to blame is the white man.
@@swankyangelo8527 blame it all on the white man lol its so much easier right
@@swankyangelo8527 you mean the British empire. I dont think broadly referring to "the white man" is any less repugnant as referring to "the black man" or "the yellow man" and I say this as a Nigerian

Well where tribalism is the order of the day particularly the Twi speaking people.
I'm a Kenyan. I've learnt more about Nigerian history from this guy than anywhere else. Wish someone could narrate the MauMau struggle like this

Contents like this should be taught in schools. From Nursery to Graduate level. That's why we are so backward! I love this channel, I love history ! Nice video. Keep them coming. Most of our so called founding fathers where all thieves that's why Nigeria can't stand. We were built on a bad foundation
They are not fighting for independence because the alliance is favorable to them; not because they want it. They don't want the alliance. They want the oil. They want the revenue that crude oil provides. Take away the oil and we will not be having this conversation.
yes African history should be taught at schools, not this Julius Ceasar nonsense
@@philshongwe8835 Exactly, I've noticed that this is a trend in many colonised countries where they hide the true history of the colonizer people from them so that they don't know the truth
@Dark Stories it wasn't when I graduated 3yrs ago
@Dark Stories Then that means it's a very recent thing, like one or two years otherwise so many Nigerians wouldn't be so oblivious about said topic... The things they used to teach in government studies when I was in secondary school were on the history and achievements of Nigerian nationalists, the military coups and a few other things.. they never dived any further into the past on things like slavery, colonialism etc
Only like 60% of what's in the video was being taught in government studies in school
Learning so much here … usually, what happened between the 1930‘s - until the late 1960‘s in African countries is skipped- we are all to accept governmental corruption is just a „natural“ characteristic of African states… without being given any essential background info or analysis… keep up the good work
I'm watching the first 4mins of this documentary and I didn't hear the name of a SINGLE northerner, fighting for independence. Tells a lot about why the British favored them over the Southerners. They didn't have an ideology of freedom but of power. Isn't that what's going on today?
They are always the last and bottom of class exam in academics, the Yoruba and igbo are the Most intellectually smart and business oriented. The f.ooolanies are good at corruption that's why the British used therm do they can steal the natural resources. But that's all coming to an end whether these f.ooolanies like it or not Nigeria is going to break up Yoruba Nation and igbo nation. They can delay it but never stop it.
Why we need to go our separate ways. We are not one, we've never been. The Yoruba's have lost a lot to the British project Nigeria.
Have you checked the name: Za'ad Zungur? This video is not the absolue authoriy on Nigerian history. You cant't just draw a big conclusion like that on it.
Absolutely.
You think this video narrates the whole timeline of Nigerian History? 😂😂😂
From this informative documentary Nigeria has never worked from the beginning because of unnecessary manipulation of population during census. The north has always also felt they should have more than every other regions in the country.

Definition of a nation: A large body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory.
Nigeria is many countries lumped together by colonialists to form a country. Hence the many problems we have, Nigeria can never work unless we agree to a referendum. We need to renegotiate our being together.
I don’t see why Nigeria won’t work…it’s all about mind-set. Many countries are one like USA, Ghana, Cameroon South Africa.etc.. Texas has tried seeding itself from the US many times to no avail. But they still see themselves as Americans.
My opinion is, if we see ourselves as Nigerians not oduduwas, or Arewas or Biafrans, then there will be peace n unity. Nigerians division was/is based on tribalism. Once we learn to love one another, that
We can live unilaterally with the resources we have, we will be VERY fine.
You can say that for all of Africa though, not just Nigeria. Just a bunch of tribes bunched together to form countries.
@@brotaku8619 Many countries have one native common dominant language despite their many dialects. Only countries lumped together to form a country (like Nigeria and South Africa) have problem understanding themselves. Peaceful countries share same common language. East Africa have Swahili.

Can someone please explain to me why a country will have almost it's entire land mass regarded as North; and only a slight stretch at the bottom as South. It seems to me that those who created this country intended the whole territory to be made up of North only, without South, East and West! This is one of the tragedies the British Colonialists created for this country: creating a huge North and a small South; which we find impossible to correct. This is one of the foundational problems of Nigeria which we need to redress if this country is to make meaningful progress politically or otherwise. Peter Aseme.

Sadly the story teller here is a propagandist. Trying to rational the first coup and the region that carried it out. The first coup is what really broke this country and the motive for that coup wasn't for the general good of all it was specifically to put a certain region at the forefront. The good thing about hindsight and posterity is that the truth eventually stares you in the face. Keep up the propaganda while my country works at becoming great

I see most people in the comments are pointing fingers at tribalism. Well it seems like the easiest thing to blame because Nigerians don’t want to make Nigeria work. If at this point we still think or believe tribalism is the problem of this country, then we have a long way to go. Now let’s assume tribalism is the problem, are the regions not supposed to work effectively at their own levels to surpass each other in order to develop? Every region has representatives and allocations but your leaders are all corrupt and speak the same language, they see no tribe when they’re looting your money. They don’t have their people at hearts and that’s why Nigeria’s early leaders are way better, each of them trying to fight for its people. In a newly created country I don’t think they had any choice. For the past three decades, every region has a stand and some degree of power, what’s stopping them from making Nigeria great?
There are significant differences between the 1999 document and the regional constitution before independence. The whole idea of centralization and allocation in the 1999 document prevents the regions from any form of reasonable independence and has, instead, created political opportunists from all the regions that are simply sharing money with Abuja FG. This is why Nigeria will not work except the constitution devolves power to the regions and indigenous nationalities. No democracy with Nigeria's diversity works anywhere in the world.
Will the north agree that the country is restructured so that every region controls its own resources? I doubt that.... You don't operate a corrupt central government and expect opportunist leaders from the regions or state scrambling for whatever the center dishes to deliver for their people.... The North should accept resource base restructuring if they really want Nigeria to continue existing
I see Hypocrisy in anyone maintaining this failed system of governance of the center and expecting a miracle in leadership at a hungry state or regional govt
@Hanan Yusuf Your comment is all wrong. The regions or states have little to no power. All you need to know this is to study the Exclusive, Concurrent, and Residual Lists of Nigeria's fraudulent 1999 document. Nigeria practices a unitary system of government.

But before people think that the NYM crisis in the 1930s was about tribe...they need to know that in NYM, Awolowo supported S.G Ikoku, an Ibo and Zik support Oba Akisanya, a Yoruba. It wasn't tribe, it was an ideology split.
Awo and Zik's relationship never recovered and they probably explained why Zik supported NPC at independence rather than Awo's AG.

They cut of Benue and Kogi which used to be under Southern Nigeria and gave them to North with desperate need to make the North far majority so with their loyal Fulaniz North they can have indirect rulership of Nigeria and that's just what is still happening today.
Reality stand...you on point Nnamdi zik made a terrible mistake by conflicting with Awolowo in controlling the west a yoruba dominated tribe, instead of facing the east and claim today benue and small portion of Taraba state, he sabotage awolowo effort to reclaim kwara and western part of kogi state.

I'm glad to have discovered this channel.
Forcing 3 regions(people with different languages and cultures) to co-exist as a country was a total sham and it all happened so that Nigeria can continue to be in disarray and the colonial masters continuing to gain from the fruit of the divide. They knew from the onset that Nigeria being what it was would never make a meaning unless divided but chose to forced it on her anyways. Here we are still suffering from that one singular act of the colonial masters. They gave the then Nigeria to the greed and thirst for continuous oppressors and has cascaded to the current Nigeria.

This information is sufficient evidence to inform those impervious and obstinate Nigerians who have chosen to ignore historical facts and instead latch onto an ethnocentric revisionist history of Nigeria to cast unnecessary aspersions against the January 15th, 1966 coup in Nigeria, as tribally motivated. The coup plotters struck only, because of the political mayhem and the breakdown of law and order in the Western Region of Nigeria. There were no other motives. This presentation is an unbiased account of events of that era.
Your submissions is fallacious. It was an Igbo hegemonic motive that drove the coupists, and that was clearly demonstrated by the fact that they left the Igbo politicians and high ranking military officers untouched while they killed non Igbos. They then claimed that they struck to install Papa Awolowo into office but kept him in jail for the entire duration of their administration. If they actually struck because they wanted to install Papa Awolowo, they would have released him immediately and swear him into office. Papa Awolowo was only released by General Yakubu Gowon just before the civil war, after the Northern officers dislodged the Igbos from power. The evil lies being peddled by the Igbos can easily be seen through. If they seriously want national reconciliation and unity, then they have to admit the fact that they started the usurpation of the negotiated order that was meant to ensure regional autonomy, and imposed a unitary system which destroyed the gains of regionalism. Papa Prof Nwabueze even played an ignoble role in the failed Igbo hegemonic project. They need to apologise for that and so many other things not mentioned here for there to be true reconciliation and unity.
@@kunlekuseju4090 I would have taken your lengthy response seriously if it wasn't for its baseless and inaccuracy. Opinions, by themselves, do not constitute truth no matter how hard one tried to mask them as the truth.
Who are you to question their motives when some of the coup plotters who are alive have variously stated what their intent was.
Major Adewale Ademoyega, a Yoruba, along with other junior officers and rank and file soldiers participated in the January 15th, 1966 coup!
Ethnic or tribal jingoism never played a significant role in the killings, however, selectively they may have appeared.
Those who were killed were those responsible for the mayhem in the Western Region of Nigeria.
I'll suggest that you work hard to become more objective in your submissions going forward. When you allow your sentiment and parochialism to cloud your reasoning, you run the risk of deluding yourself and others who look up to you for intellectual guidance. I advise you to read Major Adewale Ademoyega's book, " Why We Strike." Perhaps, after reading it, you may come away with some knowledge.

When there was a failed military coup in Trinidad in 1970, T Danjuma was the head of the subsequent court martial of the coup plotters. The ties don't end there, we are oil and LNG rich and corrupt and ethnically divided as well. Really interesting and educational documentary. Thank you so much for creating it, it was very well done. One note to keep in mind is to try to be as balanced and unbiased as possible. The language and the perspective is biased for the South West, and against the North. Perhaps consider involving Northern historians to prevent that bias. All in all, great job!
@bisi
Please, anyone, the soundtrack at the beginning of this documentary. I've been trying to get it. 🙏
We were corrupt long before they name us Nigeria
Thank you for this series. I learnt some new things. I especially loved the detailed narration of the first and second coups. Well done
I’m glad you’re yoruba and you can see that the igbos have never been enemies with y’all… 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Very well done. However, the name is Herbert Macaulay not Albert
Northerners are still and will always be part of our problem in this so called Nigeria
My thoughts Exactly, The fact they think they own Nigeria. i dont blame them i blame the british because they put them in power due to the fact they can manipulate and control them the way they cant d to East and Westerners
I hope this is the work of young Africans. The way you are putting your version of the events in Africa is necessary. It will take a while but this is where young people should learn who they are, not from black american performers. (Black) Hollywood are not telling this story, they do not find these stories important. Thank you for making the effort. I am in the Caribbean (Trinidad), where we have similar problems to Nigeria and other African countries but we are far away from taking ownership of our story like I think you are here. Well done!!
Thank you very much. Yeah, this is the work of young Africans.
The narrolator accent is a Nigerian accents and the name is a Nigerian name
Black Hollywood tells THEIR own story, just like Nigerians should tell THEIR own story, and just like Caribbean people (Trinidadians) should tell THEIR own story. You can't expect other pepple
see more importance in your story than you.
@@AfriAmericanPrincess agreed, to a point, but don't divide us up too much. We need the stories for truth and reconciliation, not to divide us. Hollywood exists to make rich people richer. Rich people want every dollar in the world, so there will compete for the black dollar by using Denzel's looks. Ever notice that Denzil win an Oscar for playing a crooked cop but not for playing Malcolm X?
@@SSNauticalTraining I'm not trying to divides us at all. The black diaspora tends to put onus on Black Americans to tell their stories when it's not their history. Why can't Caribbeans and Africans tell their own stories? Most Nigerians don't know their own national history (I'm Nigerian btw). The responsiblity is us to tell our own stories, no else's. Just like creator made this documentary, someone can make a movie if they wanted to. People make quality movies with Iphones now a days. There no excuse.
I'm still waiting for an unbiased honest history of Nigeria by a Nigerian.
Then make your own video and leave here
This is just sublime... Thank you brother
This is a very good documentary.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽☺️

I am happy to watch this video..this is where the originality of our problem start and trib preferential treatment was done to a lot
Now do a docu. about how Kenya became extremely corrupt.I think she comes second after Nigeria
I would love to do that.
Best history channel , you're the best keep it up
more brother your video are really down to earth specific. God bless you.
Good job, History of a nation should be taught from basic to university
If we TRULY want the ethnics of Nigerian contraption to do well? We should LET THEM GO!!!
A marriage of more than 50yrs is not favoring ALL but one, seriously?
Come on, we know, the more we try to sustain what the Whites created, which wasn't designed to favor us, the more we cry.
50yrs of pain, sorrow and tears will only favor those coursing the trouble but for all, it doesn't.
LET US LIVE BY ALLOWING US TO GO OUR SEPARATE WAYS!!!
Thank you so much Bisi 🙏
It would appear that a most unfortunate oversight by Ironsi, was the sparing of the life of the main instigator of the January coup, which singular inaction, I would opine, was responsible for the myriad of retaliatory killings of Igbos. At the end of the day, the perpetrator is said not to be an Igbo man, but an Anioma indigene! Yet, Nigeria is yet to heal, from the wounds inflicted by one man's unbridled arrogance.
