Bisi or whatever you call yourself. You are type that reap from conflict, from knocking heads together. I understand your game plan, which is to try to reopen old wounds by reminding the North that easterners carried out the 1966 military coup. Its another election circle so you thought that doing this, Yoruba candidates will benefit. This is a dirty game and it shows you are an ethnic bigot.

Nigeria has not recovered from the two unfortunate coups of 1966, it explains why the struggle for power in Nigeria has largely been "regionized" We have not outgrown the primordial sentiments that led to the 1967 civil war Great documentary, I recommend this for every young Nigerian today.

I don't think its an issue of primordial attachment, but it is the reality in the developing world national governments are weak and deliver few resources and services to the people leaving a power vacuum filled by provincial leaders and tribal leaders.
If the government does not provide electricity, water , food, a good currency and security from insurgencies why the hell would I be loyal to a president in a far off capital.
All we can hope is for national government manage to recruit better people to try and fix the huge economic and military issues across the continent.

Niger-Area ethnic groups were never meant to be together. At least not the Hausa, (Fulani), Igbos and the Yoruba. The trouble spots would have been central Nigeria, where largest small groups of ethnic groups were concentrated. Nigeria is a business centre for the old British empire. That’s what it was meant to be (Amalgamation of Northern and Southern Nigeria). The North cultural mindset is Feudalism and religious oriented (Islam), the Yoruba is more of social democracy economically oriented (religiously tolerant-Traditional beliefs, Christianity and Islam and more accommodating), while the Igbos were more individual capitalist oriented societies and as a Catholic enclave. Just my personal observations.

The president was not on the list. Records show that Azikiwe far overstayed the planned duration of his leave, even to the point of running out of money. This, almost certainly, was because he knew of the coup. He was either a co-conspirator or was tipped off.

So what? This issue is nonsense. Would you rather have igbo leadership or northern leadership? Your logic is part of the problem. I suggest you examine whatever logic is leading you to believe that such jingoistic sentiments make sense.
Every region has had their time in the presidency and today if Igbos are fighting for freedom, and if southerners are fighting for true federalism, we have Nnamdi Azikiwe (who opposed secession against the advice of Awolowo because he wanted to be president) and Aguiyi Ironsi (who abrogated the regional system of government) to thank for foisting the current unitary system on us. Nigeria has only 2 choice Reintegrate and form a strong bond making decisions to fast track our development as a nation and not making decision based on tribal sentiment. Or Nigeria disintegrate. Unless those two choice, we will continue to go round and round in circles and head no where.

    Gen. Ironsi goofed big time.
He had two clear action parts to follow.
    1. Immediate court martial and execution of Ifeajunna, Nzeogwu and all the plotters. This would have reassured the northerners of his neutrality.
    2. Dissolution of Nigeria, let each region go its separate ways.

Righteousness exalts a nation; but sin a reproach to any people. Nigeria must be rebirthed on God's righteous requirements. We have suffered at the hands on the wickedness of men's hearts for far too long. Otito! Greedy, self-centered evil people must be a thing of the past. We need people filled with wisdom from God and walking in right with God to be both leaders and followers. God must be the center. That's the only acceptable way forward.

It's good to just hear African history as it is, acknowledging all aspects internal and external for a deeper understanding of how we got here and what potentially where we could evolve. I'd like to learn about the conflicts some of these Ethnic groups had before colonisation, to see what Ethnic relationships were bad from before colonisation and only continued afterwards, what was created by colonisation or agitated by it, and if any ethnic groups merged or became closer during or after colonisation. Ironsi’s Unification decrees was an innocent attempt to unify and integrate the country after the bloody coup in January.

I love History a lot. I have read extensively about Nigeria's "unfortunate" History. I personally think that the British contributed to the problems facing Nigeria even up till now. They brought together the North and South for their own selfish interest without thinking about the indigenous people. The North and South are totally different in terms of ethnicity and religious beliefs.... this is the core problem with Nigeria in my opinion.
The North never wanted to take to Western Education because they believed it had a "Christian undertone". This grossly contributed to underdevelopment in the Northern region. Standards in terms of personnel qualifications had to be reduced in order to accommodate more "unqualified Northerners". Lack of educational exposure and hatred for other religious beliefs brought tension and this showed before the January 1966 coupe especially during and after the 1965 Elections when Tarfawa Balewa Hausa Fulani led Government were in power. It's been a long time that the core northern Hausa Fulanis had been using various ways to dominate other ethnic groups and regions. It's unfortunate that the January 1966 coupe failed and so the core North saw it as an Igbo coupe even though a Yoruba Officer was among the coupe plotters. The effects of past events are still glaring up till today. The factors that led to the Nigerian Civil War are still very visible today or how can the core North explain the killing of Deborah Samuel that said the academic WhatsApp group is not meant for religious nonsense? She was accused of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad even though she never mentioned Mohammed's name! The seeds of hatred has been sowed a long time ago.
Thanks a lot for your very informative video. It's arguably one of the best I've seen in recent times. Kudos to you. Well-done.👍

Some reasons why the hausa’s saw it as an Igbo coup, is because prominent men from other regions were killed and miraculously, Nnamdi Azikiwe was spared owing to the fact that he was outside the country, Michael Opara the primier of the Eastern region was spared also, coincidentally Aguiyi Ironsi was also spared cos he was attending the Party of a top Military Officer who was later killed that night while Aguiyi left that party for another party, it doesn’t add up to spare the Igbo men who were supposed to be killed, well that aside, Ironsi’s failure to deal with the coup plotters made matters worse cos it summed up the speculation the Hausa’s had, I wouldn’t blame them anyways, if you must kill the top men, kill all and spare no one..

pls do go back and rewatch and amend your history thinking.
Namdi zik was outside the country. It definitely wasnt planed that he should leave. Ironsi belonged to no party. He was a military man. Party is what he him self abolished, and wanted a unified government which the hausa saw as a treat to precent them from ruling. And then started killing igbos.
And at that time they started killing Igbo soldiers in abekuta and ironsi was out of the country. Would you say that he was among the plan of killing his igbos soldiers??
Okay lets assume that he was involved in the plot of killing all hausa leaders. Why then did he employed lots of hausa soldiers in his rigme??
Why then did he imprisoned both igbos and hausa, yorubas of the tafawa rigme. Tafawa rigme was a corrupt one. And is not a news.
The 5 main armies that carried out the coup also killed one or few igbos.

The coup was successful in SW, North but failed in the East, why? Aguiyi took over and refused to punish the coup plotters for 6 months, why? Because they're his Igbo brothers.
