  • Business owners joined the mayor of Burien Thursday to publicly raise concerns about safety around several growing homeless encampments in the city.
The city is locked in a legal fight with the King County Sheriff’s Office, which provides police services to Burien, over the legality of an ordinance that restricts where and when homeless encampments can be established.
At a press conference in city hall, several business owners said they are dealing with drug use and narcotics dealing outside their stores.

CHOOSING to live in tents should NOT always be confused with HOMELESSNESS. The two are NOT always the same.

Seriously? That's your guy? That's the guy you want to use as a moral, ethical, and legal compass? The problem then exists beyond the city, LE, and current laws. The citizens, SOME citizens, are obviously delusional about how things should work.

I know, i’ll just keep voting for the people who are enabling and creating this lawlessness, homelessness, open drug use and the very condition that makes my property value go down….

Well… if the GOP would get out of Trump’s ass and stop the culture war conspiracies (DEI/CRT/WOKE/LGBT are coming for your babies) then maybe we could have serious people back working to solve serious problems.

The problem is not everyone has the ability to reason with common sense…that’s how we got here in the first place

@@BFaluup They are purposely dumbed down and kept ignorant by those they voted for so that they keep doing it. Its a vicious cycle.
There is no middle ground in the US political structure. No critical thinkers who want things to get better are being placed in power. They are all just scrambling to line their pockets while everything goes to hell. Things will only get better when stuff starts to completely collapse and the citizens pick up the pieces of the disaster the wealthy have wrought.

The time of he said she said is passed. Fire the sherriff and start orgainizing a local police force. Until the new police force is implemented pay the county to enforce whatever laws it feals like enforcing. Actual Burien residents have been struggling under the lawlessness of the county while voting for and supporting the city council. We are tired and need to move on.

The sheriff is appointed and just a proxy for Dow Constantine. He is the the true Dr. Evil, but the brainwashed around here will not get rid of him. Kinda sucks for all of us normal folks.

Generally, Sheriffs are elected, so firing her is not likely a route that would work. The local police force is already formed - they just need a different sheriff.

Doesn’t Burien have its own P.D. Or are the contracted with KCSO? I swear I’ve seen police cars that say Burien police…either way this is what happens when a sheriff gets the job because not because they were the best candidate but because they were appointed..we live in a madmax world where the only ones getting arrested are the decent ones defending themselves.

I had a gallon size bleach jug thrown at me from someone in a camper. I tried to be empathetic and understanding. At some point, enough is enough. I shouldn't have arm myself to feel safe at a bus stop or just going on a walk.
