I am a huge fan of KitchenAid, but the shredder was a huge disappointment. It does shred parmesan quite nice, but processing carrots or potatoes with this attachment it's such a struggle. I highly recommend the metal meat grinder, though. It was worth every penny.

Will newer attachments work on the vintage mixers?

I have the metal meat grinder, pasta roller/cutter 3 piece set, the Gourmet pasta press, the citrus juicer, which sucks, and I got a ravioli maker off brand that did not work so well, but my filling was a bit coarse, I think. I want the sifter/scale, grain mill, food processor, simply for the dicing, as I have a great food processor already, and vegetable sheeter.

I have the pasta maker, ravioli maker, shredder/slicer and food processor and icecream bowl..I'm not a big fan of the shredder/slicer...but all of the other attachments are wonderful. I'd like to try the pasta extruder and the sifter as well.

The newer model of the shredder/slicer is much better than the older one I had. I had to replace mine. It wore out😹

ice cream and pasta maker are waste of time and money, everything else are great. Don’t be tempted to buy non OEM versions, a non OEM slow juicer allowed juice to get back into the gearbox and motor.
