I’ve got one onion that’s had a growing party while I’ve been recuperating from gallbladder removal. It’s doing so well on its own I didn’t want to just throw it away so I came here to find out how to give it a chance! Thank you!
I just stuck my onion into a bag of fertilizer when it began sprouting and it sprouted lots of leaves. I never peeled it and now I'm wondering if I doomed my onion... ._.
Wanted to reach out and thank you for recommending it as something fun to do with kids! My son is only 16mos old (so obviously didn’t help with the knife) but was so intrigued by the whole process and was tickled pink when I let him put the starts in the water! 👍🏻 Thanks again, I look forward to watching more of your videos as my backyard garden beds are built and filled!!!
Had a whole bag of sprouted onions and wasn't sure if I should just toss them or try and regrow. Will definitely try and regrow some. Thanks so much!!!
I've done this with scallions, and it worked. I have a sprouted sweet onion. I'm going to try and grow it, but since right now it is the middle of January I'll have to pot it and place in a window. If nothing else it will be a science experiment.
This is awesome! Thank you so much for your onion sprout tutorial! And also thank you for recommending it as a project for my kid before I tore into it myself!😂 My son's 7 and I think he's gonna love it!
You're the first person who divided up the onion to get multiple onions... I wasn't sure how to divide the roots ... please let me know if you have any ideas... thanks
Planted mine, how often do I water them? I didn't peel back that much, onions were still hard...red onions...just planted as it is still round and hard jnto soil with sprigs above soil...any advice?
Oops. My onions are in a bag of fertilizer and I never peeled them. They sprouted lots of leaves, but I'm wondering if they went bad now that there is a nest of gnats in the soil...

Same. I was gone for about 14 days and my purple onion left me a beautiful sprouted gift!
Hey there. I had the same surgery and I'm also wanting to save my onion. lol. Take care.🙏✌️
Same- I'd feel bad throwing out my onion so I'm going to attempt to grow it as soon as the ground thaws and it gets warmer.
@@faerie5926 Just grow it in your house if it's cold outside.

Hi, You should find that the roots will divide naturally with the onion bulbs when you seperate them
Thank you
You're welcome
A question: Do you put the sprouts that are in jar of water in the dark, or out of direct sunlight, or in light?
I just placed them on the window cill in direct light, seemed to work just fine :)

Right on! Thanks man! 🤙🏼
Any time!
Can you show us the onions sprouting roots in the jar of water, please ?
Thank you!
Welcome!
Thanks
Are these for spring/summer planting?
Thankyou
You’re welcome 😊
how long before you harvest?
Will I get more by splitting them like this, or just plant the whole onion ?
Yes. If yu just plant the whole onion then they will grow in close contact and will not form properly.
Oops. My onions are in a bag of fertilizer and I never peeled them. They sprouted lots of leaves, but I'm wondering if they went bad now that there is a nest of gnats in the soil...
When do you know they’re ready to dig out?
Just treat them as you would when growing regular onions and harvest them when they are full grown.
my little onion has two tiny stems, should i peel it right away or wait until they’re bigger?
Probably best to do it now. You may well discover more seperations as you unpeel according to the video :)
Will the planted piece form a new onion or just go to seed?
It will form a full onion but perhaps smaller than the original.
Peel onion,split the bulb,put into in dirt👍
Do you get more onions or just seeds?.
Usually about 3 onion plants per sprouted onion
thank you! this video was a great help! :o)
Glad it was helpful!
How do you know when to pick them?
Hi... how deep should we allow the soil to be for an onion
Onions can grow in very shallow soil, but I would choose to grow in 3 inches minimum depth.
When best the time to put onions in the ground
Soon as the temp is over 40F you can plant. Optimum temp is around 70F
Can you plant the whole sprouted onion rather than dividing it?
My sprouted onion is the same color
Your videos are very helpful and informative! Thanks.
