I am the guy at 22:06 (figuratively) Camera in his face, but no pandering or suddenly pretending to love the SO much. Just there, in his own emotions, feeling the song deeply, appreciating the art of music that is so emotive it can make you feel something yourself
guys, I was here at Lowlands.. and this was his best performance ever. this pure raweness.. I mean, listen to his lyrics, It's dark and sad, troughout the years he developed a sound that's in his comfort. (darkness) anyways people.. this is not bad at all, I think that you guys should get used to it, because this is his sound. if you listen his music.. can't you feel the pain, the darkness and sadness? I'm sorry but if you don't like his evolved style.. Just ignore his music. if you love to come close to an emotion that's dark and full of pain, just absorb it and enjoy this musician.
Seems like India didn't expect to sing alone at 27:47 but I don't know how or why but I got teary-eyed: her singing alone, ben's smile and the reaction of the crowd. wow!
I don't think people are grasping that this is raw emotion, and I know it might not sound right to people who aren't musical or passionate but there's a certain beauty to imperfection in vocals, at the times something sounds write and a lot of the time with artists such as Ben Howard, John Martyn and many others, vocals aren't a key there an emotional sentence, wether you want to shout them, hum them, whisper them. Whatever feels right at the time is what is produced! This is in my opinion why Ben Howard doesn't care much for opinions of his work, it's doing it for him and if you enjoy what he's doing along his journey then that's a plus to everyone!
JOhn Smith it‘s not. He still can really sing very well. But every syllable is filled with emotion right here. The hate, the disappointment, the pain. You can here it in ever word Ben sings. I see how many people really don‘t get this, but as a singer myself I am 300% certain he sings this way to express his emotions. I do this too and it feels way better because you can express yourself way more.
I love all the comments from the girls from 2015 that were disappointed when Ben didn't follow in the Ed Sheeran footsteps lol... Thank god, love Ben's music, all of it
All these comments about where has the old Ben gone just makes me sad, where have the old fans gone?! Stop picking out his flaws and appreciate what he is giving us for christ sake! This performance was perfect, so much emotion👌🏻.

+Alysha Simonsen Me, i'm just a passionate fan of the group. Your future husband should at least like Ben if he is to have any taste in music at all. If not well you've got a problem.
17natee I love that we all appreciate when Ben smiles during performances because holey shit he looks so tortured some times i love him dearly pls be okay Benjamin.
Nate's cheeky smile before I'd assume they set India up to showcase her great voice for a bit cracks me up! She took it in her stride and the crowd loved it!
The singing is mainly because Ben was at the heaviest point of his pneumonia at the time but had decided to get on with the tour anyway. He also did the Glastonbury set with pneumonia but that was when he'd got a bit better. Listen to Dan Lewis' chat with Kyle Keegan (the drummer), he's shed some light on what was going on back then.
holy shiet, that man completely gone mad. I thought he's gonna cry, then it seemed he's going to kill somebody. I really think he's having huge problems now. He looks like high or drunk and his earlier performances in 2011-2013 were way better than that. Still love him, but i guess he needs a break or the shit he's worried about will crash him completely. Please Ben, be well. We still need you alive:*
Given that this isn't actually the 'full' performance anyone know where to find it? The beginning is missing - Small Things, Evergreen, Time is Dancing.
It still sounds okey to me but it has been better! I'm still a fan and I really want him to be back in Holland soon because I've never seen him playing live. Although he's not himself in this video, I think... I don't know, if you listen a small part from 4:30 till 5:00 you maybe can hear he's not totally able to hit that note. He was able to hit that note before I know for sure. Maybe it's mental, maybe it's physical, I don't know but I really hope he'll be better soon!
Still great, full of emotion and musical brilliance.... I'm a big fan.... but.... And let's be honest.... something about this specific gig just wasn't right, it's disjointed somehow, possible sound back issue but seems more like just simply one of them gigs that for human reasons (tired band perhaps) just didn't quite work out.
He seems so tired. I think he needs some time off. Playing the same songs over and over would eventually take its toll on an artist. I miss the old Ben, but I understand his change in demeanor towards recent live shows.
+Sunnyjimmyor For me his 2 Brisbane shows were great, but all that travel with minimal break in between giving your all each show would most definently be a daunting task to do throughout the year long tour process.
+Sunnyjimmyor I think that it's taken his toll on him for sure, in a good way. I've been noticing his live performances over the years and the passion and sounds seemed gained a depth and variety of tonalities unique to his sound. I love it

he's nowhere giving daggers, look at him, he's grinning at her. India was quite shocked about Ben not joining in and her singing alone. Also she's not too early.
I'm also worried about Ben not looking nor sounding well, but for me the real question here is: why the girl at 15:25 goes to a fucking Ben Howard's concert (which I cannot attend since I live in Brazil) with that thing in her ear? Bleed your ears out, it doesnt matter, but listen to the man!!!
What on earth happened to Ben Howard after the brilliance of 'Every Kingdom'? These songs drone on and on and on, with little to commend them, no melody to speak of, and an endless blur of "soundscapes". If this is supposed to be cool and edgy, then so be it, but it's incredibly boring and frankly quite depressing. Nevertheless, thanks for the upload, at least there were some moments of sunshine in the form of the ever graceful and delightful India Bourne.
His best performance?? People, are you serious? He is singing awful. There is no feeling for rythm and tones. He is obviously suffering on the stage. Seriously suffering, not artificially suffering. Probably absolutely on drugs or whatever AND THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WIH HIM: i as at his show in Cologne on August 22nd 20015 and it was even worse! This is a fading Ben Howard. I hope he is gonna recover but this performance definitely is not good. It seems as if he really needs a break at this point. He is obviously destroyed. I do not understand how this cannot be seen by his fans. Do not get me wrong, I love his music and he is a great artist and that is why it matters to me to share my opinion. Ben Howard probably has grown too fast and now musci industry in slaughtering him. I don´t think that he can take it. This performance tells me that he is broken. Thanks for your rational feedback to my post. I am a big Ben Howard fan and I care about this wonderful artist!
+Räs Ofenkäs I have been thinking the same for a long time. You can hear big difference with his voice compare to a couple of years ago. Im not sure he could performence Every kingdom tracks with same greatness as he did back in the days. You can also hear him say there´s no going back at stage at itunes festival. I saw him live in Paris 2015 and it was amazing even if i like the old versions of the fear and keep your head up. When i saw the video of ben at lowlands 2012 for the first time i was mindblowed of happines and love. Still he touch my soul but not at the same level. Hope he´ll get back there.
Thanks a lot Kevin Loov for your feedback and your confirmation. Its especially his voice that has enormously changend. And not in a positive way. I personally have the impression that he really needs a break at this point. Probably he went even too far. He seems to suffer on stage and there is more pain than passion in his voice - i think you know what I am talking about. Just like you I really appreciate Ben Howards musical talent
And i Do not think that this talent is gone forever. He seems too burdened to fully unfold his potential. What makes the situation even more complicated is that I think he has grown too far. Hopefully music industry is not gonna exploit him and deform artist and art. My perception is that mainstream is pressuring him. Complicated situation.

Musica Masonica what? Embracing sadness can be either a coping mechanism or, in the case of being a fan, also help not feeling alone in sadness.
@Musica Masonica that's what art is. Do you like van gogh? The divine comedy. You can jest can't you?

Voice of an angel. but notice how he looks at her, you can see how strong their bond is in his eyes.
Oh my goodness, that performance of Rivers in your Mouth is breathtaking
The end was like nothing i've ever seen before, raw as f*ck and he looked like he was gonna smash everything as he looked out at the crowd.
I love all the comments from the girls from 2015 that were disappointed when Ben didn't follow in the Ed Sheeran footsteps lol... Thank god, love Ben's music, all of it

ha, i absolutely love all the "moments" in the description! i feel like we should do this with all of their live performances! :)
Thanks for posting! I was playing brass for this festival with Ben and good to hear it
+Sarah Field What is it you play?, it looks like mix between trumpet and french horn.
+17natee trumpet/ flugelhorn 30.54 !
+Sarah Field I hope you and the other man will play on with the group in future shows and other creations, it's a really nice addition.
+17natee Thanks, Oli is on French Horn, we will be on Paris this week!
+Sarah Field I really like the brass during End Of The Affair! Great job! :-)
That riff was perfection! Nat you genius!
That version of Keep Your Head Up!
his best performance

WOW!!!!!!!!! Simply Ben
such a fantastic crowd!

Amazing.

Rivers in your mouth version is peng, best one
+Guy Harrison your off your rocker crazy buddy! Watch the BBC Sessions and maybe you'll realize.....or maybe not...
+Ryan Logue na man i like that version as well just think the solo at the end so much better in more recent live gigs lol
No, he's right. The emotion in the face oft he crowd is perfect
innit

+lovesdiva I got this from the lowlands website. I had no idea there were other songs played.
if you find it plz respond with links
I 👽❤️BH
27:25 the guy going to town with his lollipop haha!
poor ben, keep your head up!
I think you’ll find he was just completely baked. It’s Holland after all :)
Is it just me or did some parts of ''rivers in your mouth'' sound kinda painful? One of my favourites by him though.... but, ouch!
Arent they singing "cruel world" at the end of the Conrad?
And what is Bens new tattoo for?
+Marta Kurvīte Just the way it ends that makes it sound like rad not world, but you could be right too.
No idea about the tattoo. It looks like APAE
+Marta Kurvīte Yeah they are
Think it's awesome how noone has phones out at this performance - does lowlands ban them or something?
Not sure. Maybe for once, people just wanted to watch live music through their eyes and not their phone screens :)
It still sounds okey to me but it has been better! I'm still a fan and I really want him to be back in Holland soon because I've never seen him playing live. At 34:30 you can see Howard's tattoo. I wonder what is it? I suppose it's "APAE", but even uncle Google says nothing about it, so I wonder about that.
What is he singing at the end of "end of the affair", he and also India as chorus ex. 35:19
+prezeskgr Its like a bridge part of the song of End of the Affair. The lyrics are: "Could you be alone? My hatred, my hate will bring me closer"
Still great, full of emotion and musical brilliance.... I'm a big fan.... but.... +Sunnyjimmyor He sounded a lot better 2 days later at Winterhurer Musikfestwochen.. There are some videos on youtube as well
+Suna1988be
Yeah of course. He's an awesome performer, everyone has their sick sort of days, I guess. Admittedly, his Melbourne gig in June was sick.
+Sunnyjimmyor For me his 2 Brisbane shows were great, but all that travel with minimal break in between giving your all each show would most definently be a daunting task to do throughout the year long tour process.

This album is veeeeery different from the ' Every Kingdoms ' .. deeper and melancholic, I guess that's why he is singing like that.
He sounds like he is battling falling down and dying, what is happening?
heartbreak
McGaughey and also possibly depression, exhaustion and more.

Unbelievable performance. Loss of words. No one makes me feel the same way. Kinda wish they filmed the crowd less though. Focus on the band, ya know?
What happened to Ben?
Heartbreak
Hope he's okay within himself, needs a long break imo. Love for it clearly gone.
36:06 when music's so good
I probably fell in love with the girl @23:08
Thanks dude for pointing this out. Apart from India Bourne, this is the only moment of joy in an otherwise utterly depressing mess.
27:48 india sings too early and Ben just gives her the daggers like..."thats my ending!"
i know this is months after you commented but India was actually doing a solo here...
why did she give that look of shock after the first note? also did you see the death stare from ben? thats his ending.
+Sean Ruderman im not sure but it was her solo...maybe her nerves? i find his look to be one of being impressed myself.
he's nowhere giving daggers, look at him, he's grinning at her. India was quite shocked about Ben not joining in and her singing alone. Also she's not too early.
