Empty box claims are pretty easy to subvert given the fact that most shipping services determine shipping costs based on size AND weight...IOW, there's a record of the original shipping weight.
I’m currently dealing with a situation where a seller sent an empty box and the stickers where put on the box “received without contents” by usps when it was dropped off. Very true. Having the trifecta of TRS, 1 day handling, and free returns is glorious. Ebay always is taking care of me as long as I operated properly in their guidelines.
How do I protect myself from an item I am selling for $935 to a buyer that has 88 sold and 100% feedback this is my highest ticket item and I just want to make sure I’m protected what should I do
If the people that are so worried about returns and scams just spent the same time and energy listing more it wouldn't be an issue. I have free returns on just about everything and still am under 2.5% returns. Top Rated us discount more than covers that cost.
@@Snarkapotamus Yeah, I was a bit skeptical at first too, but I just try to be as specific as I can with measurements and answering questions. I had 5 returns last year with well over 100 pairs of jeans sold.
That's BS. Why I would accept to be scammed then try to make up for it by spending more of my own money and sweat? Why Ebay doesn't take the loss or at least share it especially since they are the ones making those policies to attract frauds? Ebay used to really protect sellers until sellers with your mindset took over and ruined it for everybody.

An FYI to all new sellers, eBay's "Seller Protection" only applies if the buyer places a claim through eBay. If they skip eBay and place a claim with their financial institution AKA a chargeback, then eBay has no control over the outcome and will not help you, regardless of how ridiculous the buyers claim is. I sold a printer battery a month ago for $140, a day after I shipped it the buyer filed a chargeback with their bank, keep in mind they didn't even have the item yet. Their reason for filing the claim was that they "were charged twice". I'm a Top Rated Seller who's on managed payments, but when I called eBay they said they couldn't do anything because the buyer didn't go through Ebay. It's been a month and the claim is still pending, the buyer even left me positive feedback 😂. Best case scenario I get paid after waiting for over a month. Truth is eBay doesn't care about it's sellers, there's so many of us that were dispensable to them. As a seller you can't even leave a buyer negative feedback, so essentially every buyer has 100% Positve Feedback 🤣.
I had someone do a chargeback through PayPal saying they didn’t authorize the transaction. I pointed out to PayPal that they had bought many similar items from other sellers on eBay. I got to keep my money.
I'm working on it Chris! Things have super slowed down recently, but I'm looking to get to that 5 per day. Actually, 6. I was at 4, easily, last year, but trying to get back to normal.

It is doable. A satisfied customer isn't likely to dox you on platform. Besides it's contrary to the Ebay T.O.S. A past customer might write to ask you via your ship out address to BOLO for not to be listed future repeat direct sales.
I just started selling as a side thing in the last month. Already have someone saying I sent a fake item. I've sold 88 things and they have 1 feedback. Hopefully I win this case as I buy my items off eBay and sell them back. I track my listings and hopefully eBay sides with me.

I think the items that you sell are too valuable and Ebay may not be for you because there are too many scammers. I would see if there is a way you can only do local pick up or sell on your own website instead. Ebay is not for selling expensive things it is way too risky.
@@la6136 yeah bro that’s what I’m thinking and realized. What if someone tries to scam me and I refuse to pay. How would ebay handle that once I already have the money? Hello. Pretty new to eBay and I keep getting offers from people who have bogus accounts. My first sale I sent and was never paid. After reaching out to others realize I should get paid first, but the won't stop. Can I do anything to make this stop. It's a pain in the 🤬🤬🤬
Unfortunately getting scammed as a seller is just part of the job now. I fight about 4 scammers per day which takes 1-2 hours on the phone. It's such a drain and a hassle. People stealing parts out of the electronics I sell, or just straight up sending back empty boxes. The bigger you get the more scammers you inevitably attract.
What should I do if a buyer sent in payment for an item and then sends a message a while later asking if I can send to a different address? Do I proceed to send the item to the address associated with what EBay is telling me to ship to? Do nothing? Or
I just spot a buyer scam that the buyer search online for a tracking number that shipping to the same city, zip code as my address and upload to eBay as return tracking. Post office can track the delivery address but they don't provide any proof that can show the full final address. So I can't have proof to show its delivered to another address. In my case the buyer didn't find a good tracking showing from his zip code to my zip code, so he used a tracking shipped from another city. And the shipment is one day before he even opened return case, so I am in process to dispute with ebay and hopefully I can win it. But if the buyer did find a perfect tracking from his zip code to mine, I would have no proof it was delivered to another address. And I guess in that case I just have to take the loss...
And, just a side note, I know it's not anything I'm doing wrong, because I've been selling on all other platforms for years with thousands of 5 star reviews, top seller status, a loyal returning customer base, and only 2 returns across all platforms (both of which were also bogus). eBay is exactly the headache I've always feared it would be, unfortunately. I'm very discouraged and sad, honestly. I should be able to sell there successfully without all this nonsense.
Would be very helpfull for me if you could tell me what other sites you know and use to sell your item besides eBay because as you say it a terrible headache full of scamers. Cheers up!!!

Hi Chris. Im checking out your store from the UK and notice listings are with 'Returns not accepted'. I'm thinking this is because I'm in the UK though. Is this right? Thanks
Is it a red flag when someone makes an offer, but it matches the listing price you posted it for. I had someone offer a price of $150 but i listed the item for $150.
I've had 2 Ebay sellers send me random crap items similar but in no way what they listed as the item...just in the last 2 weeks. There is no way to penalize lazy, sloppy, selfish sellers who cop-out with "we made a mistake". I want these sellers punished financially punitively so that they stop listing items they don't have, hoping I won't notice or that if it's not worth my time to fight/fix it. You sellers presume buyers are the fraudsters, but more and more the sellers are desperate people dumping garbage on the market and there is no mechanism to get Ebay to punish you short of base refund....no recourse for time cost of my time to deal with this and drag your crap back to the post office....all just to get my money back from a recurring fraud platform.
To me, that is not the sellers fault. That is an issue with usps and the buyer should take that up with usps first. I have had tracking show an item was delivered and show up a week later. I am definitely not quick to give a refund on a lost item. If it shows it has been delivered to the address I was given by eBay then I am at no fault. And if I get a negative feedback I will call eBay and attempt to get it removed. I have given a refund for a lost item before but a lot of what happens in those situations is how a buyer starts off the conversation. I had one buyer message me and just say “where is my stuff?”. Some people start out cursing at you. That’s an instant ignore from me. A person like that will most likely not be satisfied with any outcome.
If it shows delivered to their address you are covered. They have to take it up with ebay and if a case is open you will win. I've had this happen twice now. If it's FC mail with no extra insurance (standard is no insurance) and it gets lost in transit you lose and need to refund the buyer - I've had this only happen once in 1000+ packages. Be sure to give it adequate time to get delivered first, I've had packages drop off the radar for 2 weeks even and then pop back up. If it's Priority you have some insurance on it. Note that with USPS you can add insurance to FC, Ground, or Media Mail but you have to select it. And you can add additional insurance to Priority if you are selling an expensive item. If you want to add insurance it costs money so it's up to you, depends on your risk tolerance level.
Then that falls on you. If you shipped first class, you have to eat it. If you sent it Priority, you're still going to have to refund the customer, but at least you can open a case with USPS because Priority has insurance up to $100, unless you pay for additional insurance. You can get your money back, or they'll possibly find your item.
No buyers, no platform?? Same could be said for sellers. No sellers, no platform. That’s how I see it. As sellers, we are equally as important as the buyers. Yes, the buyer has the money but they can spend it on any platform. As sellers, our inventory, our prices and the overall experience we give to customers are what brings them to the eBay platform. I’ll probably here some “demand controls the supply” comments but the supply also controls “where” customers frequent. Don’t sale sellers short. Ebay shouldn’t treat sellers as “second rate customers”.
@@dailyrefinement - And they're completely disposable...one leaves, two enter. One of the best arguments as to why you should spread your exposure out across multiple platforms!

Figure those people get get theirs upon judgement day after death.

I like the video but also same time I think every video that made on RUclips most of them are defending the company that is sponsoring. Most of the scammers either they work for eBay previously or is still working inside eBay. And they know how to get away with scam.
Selling on eBay is a scam. How so? If you do not pay Ad fees no one finds your items so you pay 5 to 10% more. eBay also charges their final value fee on taxes and shipping. Two things you do not make money on or control. Thus they charge sellers more for nothing they receive. This seems like a huge scam that makes eBay million each day for doing nothing at all.
sorry I disagree with you, when you are dealing with small value items yes I do not worry about them you can lose a $1 here and there if you can absorb it within your sales' profits, but we are talking about high value merchandise when eBay lets you getting scammed not only for the $600 but also for the merchandise as well where customers/scammers use the payment dispute channel to steal your merchandise and your money as well, so if you are selling high value items this video will not help you,

Chris, Do people ever "buy" something from you and never pay? Obviously I'm not going to ship the item until they pay, but I could be selling the item to someone else. is this a scam?
Great video thanks for the information! It is very reassuring:)
Very true. Having the trifecta of TRS, 1 day handling, and free returns is glorious. Ebay always is taking care of me as long as I operated properly in their guidelines.
Awesome job! I love this idea.
Thank You!
That’s too logical…
I would have to agree. I offer returns and I get very few back. That's even with me selling mostly women's jeans!
@@TheLazyThrifterCo - Now that's IMPRESSIVE! I sell men's shoes/clothing but I absolutely run from women's!
They have another scam a buyer buys and they on ebay say shipped to your address but when check tracking number for USPS EMS China it's sent to another address not your actual address sent to another address
I've had the feedback scam used on me....if i didn't give him another great value on silver coins, he would give me negative feedback....and he did...cause i refused to sell him more cheap silver coins at his price.
Once i refunded the customer 100% and let the customer keep the item (no return require, saving him time)....and then he left me negative feedback....how's that fair? I guess i was too nice...should have requested a return first and then refunded.
Its a trick question?
I haven’t had that experience, there’s buyer protection with chargebacks also
Their bank would find that interesting.
I had someone do a chargeback through PayPal saying they didn’t authorize the transaction. I pointed out to PayPal that they had bought many similar items from other sellers on eBay. I got to keep my money.
@@emusaurus how did you find/know they did it to others?
I'm working on it Chris! Things have super slowed down recently, but I'm looking to get to that 5 per day. Actually, 6. I was at 4, easily, last year, but trying to get back to normal.
How do I keep my personal information off Ebay if I'm mailing packages from my home? Do I need a P.O. box? Thank you for your wonderful videos. I don't have a business yet because it seemed overwhelming but your videos make it seem doable.
It is doable. A satisfied customer isn't likely to dox you on platform. Besides it's contrary to the Ebay T.O.S.
A past customer might write to ask you via your ship out address to BOLO for not to be listed future repeat direct sales.
I would like an answer to this too please?
Love your clear concise videos
I use a PO Box
I use a PO Box
The first thing I did before listing any items was open a P.O. Box.
I just started selling as a side thing in the last month. Already have someone saying I sent a fake item. I've sold 88 things and they have 1 feedback. Hopefully I win this case as I buy my items off eBay and sell them back. I track my listings and hopefully eBay sides with me.
Isnt the new proposal bill want contact info included in listings?
Chris thank you. Question, do you add any kind of note or paperwork in your order when you ship, as I recall you did at one time bit have seen videos where you do not . Personally I have removed that process with no negative impact. cheers.
I dont
I have a question that I need an answer for asap if eBay says the item is paid can the buyer still cancle and not send money or does eBay have the money for you areadu I’m new and I don’t wanna get scammed
If I don't have a fancy shelf to keep my photo board up. Any ideas to keep it standing? The sherpa fabric works great but I have nothing to keep it upright. It keeps falling as I take photos. 😔
I just got the game wasn't in here. Had a bad feeling when they bought it, had no feedback, but didn't want to cancel. It's a small amount, not a big-ticket game, it just made me mad.
Thank you for the encouragement about returns.
Hi, you might want to update this video. In this video you mention that you can purchase items from your store.
I have a very confusing Scam that just recently happened and I don’t know what to do it’s also quite confusing
Short story unless you're a high roller on ebay you're fucked.
Had a scam last week. Top rating helps.
You’re saying not to really worry about returns, but I sell engines and to ship an engine is $300-$400. I’ll lose $600-$800 if someone filed a fake/scam return on me. How can I avoid this?
Offer free returns so you can refund half on a return and ask ebay to cover the rest
@@dailyrefinement please explain. I sell my engines for $1800, eBay gets their cut and I spend $300 shipping. So I would pay $300 again return shipping and then refund them $900????
I think the items that you sell are too valuable and Ebay may not be for you because there are too many scammers. I would see if there is a way you can only do local pick up or sell on your own website instead. Ebay is not for selling expensive things it is way too risky.
@@la6136 yeah bro that’s what I’m thinking and realized. What if someone tries to scam me and I refuse to pay. How would ebay handle that once I already have the money? Because that’s what’s going to happen before I let someone scam me for my money. Will they do something with my bank if I already withdrew the money?
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
Hello. Pretty new to eBay and I keep getting offers from people who have bogus accounts. My first sale I sent and was never paid. After reaching out to others realize I should get paid first, but the won't stop. Can I do anything to make this stop. It's a pain in the 🤬🤬🤬
Great video as always. Thank you 👍
Awesome job 🙌🏽! Now that needed to be said . 👏🏾 Thanks again
Do nothing? Or
Thank you for that breakdown Chris! Very easy to understand 👍👍❤️
Do you recommend a new seller getting a different address like the ups store or independent mail store?
No
And, just a side note, I know it's not anything I'm doing wrong, because I've been selling on all other platforms for years with thousands of 5 star reviews, top seller status, a loyal returning customer base, and only 2 returns across all platforms (both of which were also bogus). eBay is exactly the headache I've always feared it would be, unfortunately. I'm very discouraged and sad, honestly. I should be able to sell there successfully without all this nonsense.
Would be very helpfull for me if you could tell me what other sites you know and use to sell your item besides eBay because as you say it a terrible headache full of scamers. Cheers up!!!
@@wristwatchesandmore2656 I have had success on Poshmark, Mercari, Facebook Mkt place, and even OfferUp. My eBay has gotten a tiny bit better since I wrote this, but it's still mediocre compared to my other sales. Good luck!
Dear Chris!
Hi. Is this an scam on eBay when a buyer says that they have a buying limit on eBay and they ca mn't buy the item?
Best Regards!
Sami Saber.
How many items would you need to list a day( clothes) to get approx five sales a day? Many thanks
5
5000
Depends on category and how good you are at listing.
Does not offering international free returns rank you lower in the search? Thanks in advance
I don't offer international returns whatsoever, and I don't have a problem with international sales.
Hi Chris. Im checking out your store from the UK and notice listings are with 'Returns not accepted'. I'm thinking this is because I'm in the UK though. Is this right? Thanks
Yes, no international returns currently
Is it a red flag when someone makes an offer, but it matches the listing price you posted it for. I had someone offer a price of $150 but i listed the item for $150.
Hi chris, for top rated seller free returns is it buyer or seller pays postage please?.
Keep well and thankyou!
You pay return shipping
Please more we need these
I've had 2 Ebay sellers send me random crap items similar but in no way what they listed as the item...just in the last 2 weeks.
What about returns on movies. I don’t want to run a free rental store?
This question is a decade or two too late.
Especially the sticky icky porno returns
Lol. Why not?
So far, I have not had a serious issue with returns. They are an inconvenience, but so far, it’s been ok.
What about when usps loses item?
I got two Neutral feedbacks because the USPS broke the items.
Should be able to get them temovedn
Once again 🔥🔥🔥
eBay will just tell you to eat it, Buyer appeals eBay's decision and reverse their case and it's on you.
My listings are good and I still can't get any views
I really want to upgrade my computer and the cheapest price I can find is on ebay but I’m scared so I’m watcning this
No buyers, no platform?? Same could be said for sellers. No sellers, no platform. That’s how I see it. As sellers, we are equally as important as the buyers. Yes, the buyer has the money but they can spend it on any platform. As sellers, our inventory, our prices and the overall experience we give to customers are what brings them to the eBay platform.
I’ll probably here some “demand controls the supply” comments but the supply also controls “where” customers frequent. Don’t sale sellers short.
Ebay shouldn’t treat sellers as “second rate customers”.
IMO, plenty of sellers
@@dailyrefinement - And they're completely disposable...one leaves, two enter. One of the best arguments as to why you should spread your exposure out across multiple platforms!
How do you process your returns? Do they go back into inventory?
Yes, just relist, same number
@@dailyrefinement thank you!
I always get scammed on $1. to $9.00 items with 60 cent stamp, no tracking. Incredible at how poorly the U.S.P.S. delivery system is with 60 cent envelopes...1 out of 5 get lost. 20% lost items without tracking...ahahhaha, I'm used to it...i bite it. Figure those people get get theirs upon judgement day after death.
flip side is no seller no platform
scrammer usually with o feedback and new account. But ebay still side by the buyer even though you are 100% 1000s positive feedback seller. I am one of the top seller before but very tired with the scrammer and have finnally quit ebay because I cannot afford the lost. If you sell items less than $50/each transaction it might be work for you. But not me.
How to avoid scams on eBay: sell 5 items a day.
Thanks for the sage advice.
I like the video but also same time I think every video that made on RUclips most of them are defending the company that is sponsoring. Most of the scammers either they work for eBay previously or is still working inside eBay. And they know how to get away with scam.
You have great info but I’ve noticed all the video titles are sensational but in a negative way…
Yeah, 15x more likely to be clicked
Selling on eBay is a scam. How so? If you do not pay Ad fees no one finds your items so you pay 5 to 10% more. eBay also charges their final value fee on taxes and shipping. Two things you do not make money on or control. Thus they charge sellers more for nothing they receive. This seems like a huge scam that makes eBay million each day for doing nothing at all.
I will make a police report on scammers
I hate scamers
sorry I disagree with you, when you are dealing with small value items yes I do not worry about them you can lose a $1 here and there if you can absorb it within your sales' profits, but we are talking about high value merchandise when eBay lets you getting scammed not only for the $600 but also for the merchandise as well where customers/scammers use the payment dispute channel to steal your merchandise and your money as well, so if you are selling high value items this video will not help you,
Lol calling ebay what is this sorcery:-) first i need to find a posted phone number on ebay oooo wait that wrnt bye bye
