- This lovely coastal reserve is conveniently situated 1 km from the town of Mtunzini on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. Umlalazi was established as a protected area in 1948 and is 1 028 hectares in extent. Home of the Palmnut Vulture, one of the rarest birds of prey in South Africa, Umlalazi offers several forms of recreation and relaxation.

Personally have 22 species in this river. Biggest edible a GT and biggest inedible a Brown Skate (on 8lb nylon with an Occy leg). Biggest issue this river has, are the water skiers, they have no regard for fisherman and can easily ruin a day. Best to stay away long weekends and go mid week when quiet
