which is interesting, because mechanics are nothing special(*), especially for people playing wargames/strategy games a lot (*) I mean, it's pretty intuitive and straight forward - making units requires men, officer, weapons, which is basic resource management, with usual game mantra - resources in stock are useless, put them to work asap.

All the stuff you did off camera to build that force up is what I need to see... it may not make for good content, but it's the meat and potatoes of what got you that large army. Great stuff on the economy (factories) also!
Yeah I keep getting massively outnumbered by british even before taking Boston. Like they have 4000 men in boston while I have total of 1200 or something.
Rifles existed. Some of the weapons in the period were rifles. Rifling muskets were sort-of a thing, though ramming will obviously screw that up. Breechloading rifles were around, and utilized. Just couldn't be mass produced yet. Took a lot of skill in both the smithing and the understanding of physics to make them work. Until the like 1840's.
FYI - You get a Research to Find more officers to use.. but only AFTER you've used all AVAILABLE officers. Pro-Tip. Use yer early ones as FAST as possible, get the research to unlock more, then arrange how you need.
I give you HUGE props for taking Boston on Hard. I'll have to watch this is second time to see how you pulled that off. I could never match their build up.
I used to be like "oh, its not as detailed as total war, you can barely see what happens when units fight, die, disappearing corpses" but your video made me support the project. I am sure the devs know even better than me what the vision is. Eventually, with the community support and resources, we will have our expectations met and surpassed :) keep up the good work Jackie!
total war will actually become better, as competitors and disappointing sales/reviews make the company realise to survive, it has to go back to its roots. We will be ok :)
I noticed that if you take the experience upgrade before adding the extra brigades to regiments, that new brigades won't have the experience upgrade. Still haven't been able to successfully hold Boston with this information, but it does seem like waiting until you can garrison them somewhere to add the extra units is worth it
You are a lifesaver. I couldn't figure out how to edit the regiments that are active and their weapons thank you! I'm surprised the AI let you set and build up. I'm on easy and they absolutely sallied out in a wave of red and overran me. I didn't even take Middleborough
Looking forward to many more videos of this game! I can't pick it up for myself yet but I am looking forward to getting my hands on it soon! This is my favorite time period to learn about so this game is a dream come true! Keep up the great work!
this was good in both showing the battles and explaining the mechanics, I'm infinitely more invested then Troy and Pharaoh, though this will be the first all gun warfare game I will play since it was always Medieval times and Three Kingdoms, it will feel weird using all long range and hit and run, but screwing up and failing a lot is a great way to learn
Finally. Of all the walkthroughs I had seen so far, someone finally did it the right way. Envelopment and encirclement. I haven't played the early access yet, but in Ultimate Admiral Age of Sail I always send the skirmishers to do rear attack, or to hunt for supply wagons and artillery. I am not sure if you can do the same with minutemen here. But very well played on your part. One thing though. It seems it is not possible to block a retreating army on the campaign map?
The battle for boston i feel like you should have been charging, the left flank was weak as hell and you had so many men there. I just think sending 3 units to charge 1 unit is more than enough especially if the enemy units feel isolated from the main group. I think its a waste of man power trying to have 200 men shooting a 50 man unit.
Could you test something for me if you read this comment? In Ultimate General Civil War, you could break the game by detaching skirmishers from every single regiment. Essentially doubling the regimental time it took the enemy to attack you. Every single time, they would spend so much time fighting all of my skirmishers, they hardly lasted against the rest of the army. Can you do that in this game?
This game is now the first true Total war Competitor. Massive campaign with RTS battles with a unique flow of gameplay. Out of all the potential "first Total war competitors" I have ever seen, this is the best one I have ever seen. (except for maybe Manor lords).
@@MatzeMB85 Na, I'm not a fan of modern CA at all. Just think the comparison is unfair to other titles, and also misleading to some consumers. Same with Manor Lord - those games don't want to be a better TW...they are their own thing.
@@rphl-v3k Well true, this is not strictly the same structure as Total war (especially the lack of a turn based campaign), but I have never seen a game that has blended a massive 4X campaign style map with Real time battles this well. And for combat... cmon. The naval warfare is a better spiritual successor to Empire/Napoleon's naval combat (it is heavily based on the older game Ultimate Admiral Age of Sail). And the ground combat mimics Empire/Napoleon while being so much more. As a person who played Total war games (Empire/Napoloen, Med 2, Rome2/Atiila, and War Hammer 1) I've never seen a game more capable of being a replacement. Especially towards Napoleon/Empire.
Give me this combat, with some slight range changes, set in the late Sengoku period. Or even changing things around a little bit for Chinese in the period where they were utilizing crossbows and early firearms with polearms for a sorta-pike and shot style closer to this, 11-14th centuries or so.
@@Zswannyy Er no. That's not guaranteed. So there's a very real chance that you won't get a Steam key on release if you buy it directly from their website.
@Jackie Fish hey man I love the videos I actually wanted to purchase the game but I wanted to see if I could have you explain the process again. Since its not on steam thanks again man
It pretty much has its own launcher just get the key, download the launcher, and play. I am unsure if it will transfer to steam though next year when it comes out so, be aware.
I would love to buy this game, unfortunately the price at the moment is a big sore point for me, it has the price of a finished game without the perks. It would be a maid the devs would adjust the price at least in the EA phase, because at the moment there is no integration into steam from the version you buy and while very impressive it’s sadly not worth 50$ at the moment.
This is early access right? That's why it's only in New England map wise? Or just an early mission? I don't like how just like the previous game there's not actually 4k vs 4k troops on screen. That's disappointing. They could totally represent that.
Algorithm is pushing this game hard at me for 3 days straight. Not really interested in early access so early that it's not even a steam key being offered.
I understand that you're coming from Total War background but calling all officers as "generals" and mixing up unit sizes really irks pretty much anyone who has ever been involved with a fighting force. The smallest unit is a company in this game and in the time period. (100-200 men depending on the country and role of the company) "Artillery companies" are called batteries. The combination of companies in this game is called a regiment. (led by an officer - personally 1st lieutenant seems rather low rank for that but I'm sure it's historically accurate) Edit: Edited out the last sentence since I wasn't sure if it was correct and I'm too lazy to look it up.

Every one of their past games seems to build on the next. I would not doubt Napoleon is a plan. They just need to get the mechanics all set
Sure hope so!
They’ve been quite good at building up and not overreaching so far, I think Napoleonic war might still be a reach for them.
I was hoping this was it… hopefully this is the stepping stone
Well, I'm 10min in and already hoping they revamp UG CIVIL WAR. thanks for sharing Jackie.

so much graphic improvement over civil war general where units are more 3d-ish as compared to sprites and combat look so much more realistic
