Pastor Accused of Sexual Misconduct With 16-Year-Old

- The Reverend John Lowe, who has been married to his wife, Debbie, for 45 years, made a stunning confession during Sunday services. But it didn’t go as he had hoped. Lowe told his congregation he had committed adultery, and churchgoers rewarded him with a standing ovation. Then, a woman named Bobbi Gephardt joined him on the altar. She said she was the woman involved, and that the preacher was not telling the whole story.
That wasn't an affair, that was a crime.
I was thinking the same thing, how much he downplayed it by even calling it an "affair".

It was both tbh
Age of consent is 16.
@@josephsheranda Given that he was a pastor, this gets complicated because he could be seen as a child care worker, a person with authority. In this case, the law says that 18 is the age of consent. And I'm gonna guess this grooming started before she was 16.
Sexually assaulting a sixteen year old is NOT committing adultery. Adultery is having an affair with a consenting adult. I would not be sitting in that man's church ever.
As if the offense was cheating on his wife. The audacity! He basically minimized his victim's pain to minimize his crime.

I can somewhat relate. For years my pedophile uncle was “hiding” and thriving in my aunt’s church. He was sexually abusing me for years and did some unspeakable things when he would stay over to work with my dad. So much that It’s still difficult for me to talk about at 23 yrs old.
The worst thing about it all was that after the family found out what he was doing to many of the little girls, he was embraced and still allowed to go back continuing to play the drums at church. Not too many cared, my family/church showed such egregious behavior towards the issue and continued to cover for him. My parents were furious, especially my mom because she trusted her brother. It was all messed up.
So pertaining to this video, I guess I could say I completely understand her pain and frustration. It’s about time people start to speak up and not be afraid of what the church or family thinks. A predator is a predator.
I am so sorry that you had to go through such horrendous things, the body of christ needs to do a better job at protecting our children and members! This is outrageous!
One time i went to a "Black Church" Church of God in Christ they had a visiting preacher that night the only thing he was there for was to get money.I later found out the pastor was a pedophile "He had forcibily raped a young boy.Even after this was found out "The deacons prayed over him and the pastor never resigned

Thankfully I was never touched but the “pastor” of the church I attended since I was 14 was coming on to me. He was intensely manipulative. I didn’t realize it til 10 yrs later because he didn’t hide it anymore. When I finally told my parents, they blamed me and is still attending his church. It’s hard.

Considering the type of man the pastor is, she probably confronted him about this and he thought if he explained it himself people would forgive him easily, conveniently leaving out words like assault or rape and just simply saying he committed adultery and sin to make it seem like he simply cheated on his wife. This woman is so courageous for being able to speak up and tell her story in front of so many people. And to her husband of course for being by her side.
I'm surprised that he used the word "adultery". I expected him to use a euphemism like "moral failure"...like another pastor who committed adultery with a congregant (not a minor).
Exactly.
That’s crazy
The amount of stupid people thinking the victim took “too long” or “consented” (by law) to the action saying she is not hero and just invalidating the bravery the Pastor made… I’m horrified. I wish no ill to others but I hope they get to walk in the shoes of the victims so they can understand what trauma is.
There was no rape nor assault involved...16 is legal age of consent in Indiana.
Yall gotta stop conveniently infantilizing women and then retracting that same infantilization when you want to performatively bolster women’s contributions to society.
I love that she stood up for herself. I love that he admitted his faults, but I absolutely hate that he did such a horrible thing. Because it is things like this that make us men look bad. It makes me disgusted and I never have been in a relationship with anybody. Never kissed, never did anything. I've always flown solo. But this is one of my biggest fears when it comes to relationships... Being a bad and unfaithful man for my other half.
I pray healing for this woman and conviction and correction for the man who did this. 💔😢🙏
This wasn't an affair, this was sexual assault of a minor, statutory rape at least, and definitely horrific spiritual abuse.
I don't believe a pastor can have an 'affair' with anyone in his congregation or under his authority. I consider is Clergy Sexual Abuse because they have so much spiritual, emotional, and psychological power over congregants that it should always be considered abuse not just adultery. At least in church discipline if not legally.
Look up the consent age for the state of Indiana
@Thomas Santiago it is if she didn’t consent and if he pressured her into it. If it isn’t an easy immediate yes, then it is rape.
This is like therapists who sleep with clients. As someone who has a certain amount of emotional pull in someone’s life, it is your responsibility to not take advantage of that and act on that. It’s not okay. As a therapist, I think it should be considered rape is a therapist has sex with a current client and they should absolutely lose their license.
Absolutely. If this ever happened at my church I’d be out of those doors in a heartbeat and never return
@Thomas Santiago the Christian things is to confront sin and seek justice. Forgiveness is a requirement but it doesn't prevent the other two at all.
Snaps to that woman and her husband! That took a LOT of courage, especially in a church. It would not have been difficult to expect them to blame her. I'm glad they supported her though. Adultery is one thing, messing with a child is a whole other sin.

@@ashl3046 exactly what I said
@Rahul Nza I've never been a Christian. I had a feeling it was nonsense even as a child, and by the time I was 13 I had already done plenty of research and found the truth. The truth being the entire cult is nonsense. No evidence whatsoever suggesting any of it's real, countless unrefuted arguments suggesting it's not.
Well straight males judge gay men but they do this 🤔
@Avalon Justin
Doesn’t mean you have to be a hypocrite. Arise and renew your relationship with *Christ.* “looking unto *Jesus,* the author and finisher of our faith.” Hebrews 12:2
Just because you're a man of God doesn't make you free of dark and sin
Very true, people treat them like God
And just because Jesus was a hero, that doesn’t make him a God, right?
But he was though.
I agree
Let's not do that. If you're truly a man of God, you're supposed to be different.
Saw the video on Reddit before it was uploaded here, at the end of the video a group of men circled around him and started chanting prayers while a couple women at the end gave her a hug
Why does the title says “allegedly” if he admitted it?!?
"Sexual Misconduct With 16-Year-Old"? Where I come from we call this "rape of a minor".
To sexually assault someone and do something so atrocious when your in a position of authority and leadership disgusts me
Anyone who is not living and following God’s word should not be leading anyone or in any position to influence anyone in any congregation.
I am so proud of this woman. So many needed to hear your truth to know that they're not alone.
And as to the pastor, well, too late, he already spend the money from the collection plate. There is no forgiveness. People forgive just give the reason for the pastors rape more because Jesus forgives right?
She lied lol 🤡
Why is she making it look like he sexually assaulted and abused her even though she continued going for 9 yrs? No hate but if she was really traumatized why would she be sitting listening to him preaching 👀.
Just speculating.
@@rockyrockelle642 because shes a liar and shes become regretful in her older age...
Soooo proud of her for speaking up!!!!
I feel like it wasn’t a coincidence that the survivor and her husband were there. I bet she went there on purpose and he was scared that she would tell everyone so he thought admitting it himself would come off better but obviously he left out important details like her age and that’s why she went up there and told the truth. I find her brave and inspiring to go there and do that!
Great point
I read earlier that the church higher ups invited her & her husband to be there for it since they were planning on him addressing the church about his “committing of adultery” at that time & she agreed. I don’t think they knew exactly what all that was going to entail but… im glad she went & called him out on it in the open.
I was just talking about the same thing with my husband and my sister.
It was a total set up. He committed adultery yes, but she had no right to make him look like a criminal. She consented, and the age of consent in Indiana is 16.
@@josephsheranda just because the laws aren't moral doesn't mean what he did was. The law is also taking away women's rights that doesn't make it okay either. People get away with vehicular manslaughter that doesn't make it okay either. You look ridiculous.
*WDYM ''Accused'' he said it he admitted it-*
*Kudos to the victim & her awesome husband for taking her power back & being strong enough to alert everyone.
*Kudos to the congregation for standing up & defending the victim immediately!!!! 👏
i’m not a christian, but i used to go to a church and it came out that our pastor had slept with an underage girl, when it came out, everyone in our church sided with him, nobody believed the rumors, and the people that knew they were true just pushed it under the rug. he was married with kids. eventually he skipped town with his family, never came back to our church, never made an explanation-but we all knew why he left. his wife eventually divorced him. i just feel awful for their kids, and for the innocent girl involved.
Thanks for sharing about the pastor's sins. I hope that you turn to Christ for the forgiveness of *your* sins, healing, peace, joy, love, etc.
Thank you Satan
Jesus loves you. This pastor is not a representation of all Christians
@@russellwestbrick1754 ya, god isn't real. He didn't protect no kid from rape not even me 🙃
@@jdfodio he doesn’t forgive child rape.
That is NOT “sexual misconduct” that is RAPE! Statutory rape!
I’m tired of news and reporters calling teenagers “young women,” and calling rape “misconduct.”
How is it statutory rape if the law doesn't consider it such? The age of consent in Indiana is 16, which she was.
If it was a boy idiots would be saying wish that was me and lucky boy
Why didn't she report it sooner? If that really was the case.
@@hitto4772 because he’s clearly in a position of power she probably felt no one would believe her. This probably wouldn’t have come out if he wasn’t feeling guilty and admitted to it.
Yes and I honestly don’t care if it was the age of consent. Just because it’s law doesn’t mean it’s right.
I love how her husband supported her on the stage
What do you mean accused, he literally admitted it.
I admire this woman's courage and feel so sorry that not only did she feel that shame for 20 years but still felt obligated to go to that church instead of going to a new one. I pray for her continued healing and for that pastor to be held accountable. If he did it to her he could have also done it to others. It's so gross to think about what he's swept under the rug. What a shame.
Straight Males love judging gay men but they do this to innocent girls, wonder what God thinks about this 🤔
Also search the case of Sister Mary Juanita Barto, female nuns should also be exposed. I pray for the victims
Have you seen euphoria? 😂 she should have been a better Christian and said no.

someone took your cheeks? damm that's crazy
shes a despicable woman and should be thrown in jail.. no assauly or crime took place... and as you clearly dont know the law would highly doubt ypu were "abused" either
Don't ever assume that a member of the ministry won't pray on kids, protect your children at church.
my pastor was just arrested for DUI and leaving the scene of two car accidents , our church just announced he is retiring they covered up his arrest no announcement . his mug shot was posted on the country arrest report thats how i found out .
The victim is so brave for opening talking about it. I truly commend them for that.
The problem isn't that the victim is angry. The problem is that everyone who knows the facts isn't angry enough.
In the longer version of the video the church members end up hugging the predator and not the victem. It's sick.
