You could cut 6”off of each channel that is all the way to the bottom of the door and that would let you be able to put the glass in without any problem. The glass won’t be down past there anyway. Keep the videos coming.
Lots of folks have suggested a single half channel or bolt in window frame that you can load the window in before installation. I think these are the best solution options. As always it's fun to watch the process!
Hey Chad , I’ve worked a lot with plexiglass , on boats, and if you use a fine blade , more teeth per in, don’t push on the saw so much as let the saw do the work . I’ve found it doesn’t heat up so much, and cut will be smoother. Took me awhile to figure it out. I have heat formed plexus so many times! Such a pain in the ass ,you two figured it out real well on the windshield. It’s fun to figure things out like that. I’ve voted every day for Joleen. She seems so sweet.
Chad, I really enjoy watch you do what you do. I work for a Restoration shop. You give me the want and motivation to try different ways to do thing I normally would not do. Witch has made me a better builder and even makes it even more enjoyable to do what I do.
May Jolene achieve her goal, and you successfully engineer the window mechanism! Your hard work is inspiring. Good old fashioned horse sense and never giving up goes a long way!
Chad, you could cut the front window channel to about 10 inches and use a removable stops at the bottom. That way the window could be brought into place from the bottom of the door, raised into position, and the stops put in place to keep the window from dropping out. That way the curve on the corner could be kept to a minimum. The strap is a great idea and could be snapped into different positions. The snaps could be used as part of the interior door panel design. Great work.
8:07 just an idea one can put a slice at the very bottom of the door and slide the glass through the bottom of the door and leave it open so any water can just poor out and gives you a fast way of inserting and changing the windows rather than cutting anything in site
Concept: fab a door cartridge which slips in from the bottom, containing the window, window rails regulator and door bottom. Could also contain the latch if it wrapped up the jam edge. The usual snap in handles would be detached for removing the cartridge. Leaves the inner and outer skins for strength and empties the door for hinge and alignment work. Downside: need to put the car on a lift to service it. Advantage : can control door bottom rust out much easier, can use a strip of stainless sheet 3" x 36" Leaves all the beauty-work unmolested. Can plug/unplug all the electrics with no exposed wiring. Very nice for servicing window and latch mechanisms.
Can’t wait to see how Chad does the windows, got my entire family VOTING FOR JOLENE !! I got Jolene 20 votes today just by donating $10 bucks to charity, Easy Peezy
Chad, when cutting plexi glass you can put a straight edge by the line and score it several times with a utility knife a few times and you can then snape it of clean.
The old belt buckle method or a press stud. I agree with Jolene, cut the top off the window frame and add some tabs to hold back in place and load the glass through the top,
Round corners at the top of the door would also allow you to round the top edges of the glass making it easier to install. And for the strap idea, a chrome track on the inside of the door without rollers would be cool. I would personally cut out a section in the door to access the inside of the door. I would then make a cover for the sectioned area.
Strap Suggestion: You could use a seatbelt with the male chrome end that has a hole punched in it and is designed to bolt to the floor. That end is already neatly attached (sewn) to the strap fabric and it's chromed to look nice. The junkyard will almost give you old seatbelts.
Bad Chad I really like that mercury. I’m telling you that you’ve done a fantastic job on it but I didn’t know that was gonna be your daily Drive ride left rabbit thing every day. It’s a beauty you’ve done a great job you and Jolene both thanks.
I kept wanting you to cut the top of the window framing. The 2 45s Would be fast and easy to cut and reassemble. That would’ve been my way but I do love seeing you do your way
Chad, sense you have a chopped top the windows are short, that means you can cut the bottoms of the track (channels) which means you wouldn't have any problems getting the window to slide in from the bottom.
Nice to watch Chad... I'm glad we can actually see a builder who actually builds cars instead if throwing money at it like a millionaire....Great work guys.... I Love the calypso color.... keep it up guys!!!
If you wanted to make more room to maneuver the door glass you could cut a 2 inch piece out of the back of the C channel thats down in the door where you wouldn't see it. It would let the glass rotate into the channel. Put the felt in the channel after the glass was in and it would cover the hole so the window didn't catch when it went up and down. Hope this makes sense. Just a thought. :)
The hemi dodge darts had a similar window set up, it kept it light so they could race them. If you want the window to be held a different heights you put buttons snaps. Clean and simple.
Interesting idea with the window...maybe a snap so the strap snaps to the door panel...like you said...some leather work with Elvis and guitar and music notes...just ideas...but it looks good...some good work for sure...good luck to jolene and see you guys tomorrow 👍
G'Day Chad & Jolene as i have 3 phones and a computer i VOTE for Jolene 4 times a day ... So i'm really hoping that she does WIN I'm really hoping that Jim is feeling a lot better too keep us posted on his progress please
I'm not sure how far the square stock goes down inside the door, but if it could be shortened up slightly and then be able to slide the window up from the bottom. Jolene has my vote just like everyday since it stared.

It's amazing to watch you work in real time, I feel like your like me and our brains never stop. It makes it hard to sleep.
It's nice to watch a versatile craftsman that can show you from first cut to last polish. Thanks Chad and Jolene!!!

We are happy to support you both in what you do. You are deserving folks!
@ 14:40 An easy way to cut plexiglass is using a circular saw with a fine tooth blade mounted backwards.
you have some great ideas for the window mechanism. go for it!
Outstanding info here, Chad. Thanks for sharing so much of your skills with us.
Chad you are amazing. I am 71 years old and you inspire me every day. I thank you.

I was thinking the same thing!

Can’t wait to see how Chad does the windows, got my entire family VOTING FOR JOLENE !! I got Jolene 20 votes today just by donating $10 bucks to charity, Easy Peezy

Details like these are great to show how I could be done. Thanks for showing us.
Chad, when cutting plexi glass you can put a straight edge by the line and score it several times with a utility knife a few times and you can then snape it of clean.
I was going to say the same thing. Much easier and faster to scribe and snap the Plexi.
Finally, reality TV I can watch. Thanks for showing us everything you do. No surprises here.
I admire how you always keep it simple.. notching the channel inside the door should make getting the glass in and out...good luck Jolene
Thanks for again a great piece of craftsmanship

Same system as used on British railway carriages in the 1950s. The simple approach is often the most appropriate.
You are doing a great job brother and you have some great help too.
Chad you certainly know how to creatively get by with what you have at hand and make it simple
