  • When I saw this model I immediately knew that I had to paint it, but I had a different image in my head from the box art.
    In my mind this model is Sir Laslo the nobel knight riding his faithful warhorse Valiant into battle brandishing the standard of his beloved king and making every damsel in distress instantly go weak in the knees when they see him.
    So if you are interested in my thinking process behind the color scheme, and the techniques I used to paint the pale skin of the bat, I mean horse of course, the wings, the ghoulish green skin of the rider, the small but very prominent non metallics and the base that adds the final color touches to pull everything together, then let’s get painting and bring Sir Laslo and Valiant to life.

      They are fantastic, I can hardly wait for their king to come out. I am pretty sure he will make it into a video as well. I am not sure where I will find the time to paint him, but I'll make it happen somehow. 😅

    Beautiful paint job and video! I really need to get an airbrush 😅

    • @ph3lansminiatures
      @ph3lansminiatures  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks 😊 yep, the airbrush is a great tool, I can't imagine not having one now. My advice would be to start with a super cheap setup, master that, and then you can decide if you want a more expensive one :)

      @@ph3lansminiaturescool thanks for the advice! Would something like a cake or makeup airbrush work?

    • @ph3lansminiatures
      @ph3lansminiatures  7 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately, I don't think so. At minimum, you would need one of those battery-powered kits that have the compressor attached to the airbrush. They are like 30 bucks, and you can do some basics like priming and basecoating with them. The best solution is to buy an airbrush plus a kompressor kit ( with a tank!). If you are in the EU, you can get a kit from Fengda on Amazon for 110 EUR, but I am sure there is some US equivalent as well. I have that kit, and I have been using it for more than 3 years now.

    Do you use just water to thin your paints or thinner/a medium ?
    Im fricking obsessed with this paint scheme and im trying to recreate it with a bit more jade 😁

    • @ph3lansminiatures
      @ph3lansminiatures  Месяц назад

      I use plain old tap water when I paint with the brus, but for the airbrush, I use Vallejo airbrush thinnner. Jade sounds interesting. Let me know how it turned out :)

    Hi mate. Followed your video for Skabbiks and absolutely loved how it turned out so moving onto my FEC and found you again haha! as someone without an airbrush, how would you go about prepping the model?

    • @ph3lansminiatures
      @ph3lansminiatures  4 месяца назад

      I suppose that is fate telling you that you need to watch more of my videos 😎 Jokes aside, this is actually quite easy to do without the airbrush when it comes to the prepwork. All you need to do is grab a big brush and basecoat the whole black primed model with it with the dark sea blue I was using via the airbrush. The end result will be basically the same.
      From then on, it is basic brushwork for the highlights, until you get to the smoothing and the shading with the airbrush. These are much more difficult to replicate with only brush, but it is technically doable, by lots of glazing. I hope that helps :)

      @@ph3lansminiatures I haven't assembled my knights yet so I can't compare, but double check that you didn't use the larger oval base intended for the Varghulf Courtier by mistake!

    • @ph3lansminiatures

      Thanks :) I used a Vallejo ground texture called "rough grey pumice"

  • @Nico-fj1ze
    @Nico-fj1ze 7 месяцев назад +1

    That paintjob is absolutely amazing! One question, what stuff did you use to make the base? And do you put it on before or after the mini?

    • @ph3lansminiatures
      @ph3lansminiatures  7 месяцев назад +2

      I used Vallejo ground texture if I remember correctly. I usually use either Vallejo or AK Interactive texture pastes for basing, and they are equally good so far. Most of the time I put on the paste after the mini is glued on, and sometimes even after I painted everything, but this time I did it before I applied the basecoat of dark sea blue. This way I could basecoate everything at the same time with Dark Sea Blue.
