Agree ! It would have done much better as the album's third single. I love "Some things are better left unsaid", and it should have done better, but this one is loaded with hooks, and immediately grabs you by the neck.

John Oates definitely holds his own vocally. I learned to appreciate this song years later. I love the jazz, R&B, pop sound to it. One of Hall and Oates's best.

Big Bang Boom is their best album by a country mile, and you are dead right about John, a superb vocalist in his own right, but matched with Darryl's voice its a chemical reaction and magic is made. I love how much love these two cats from Philly get globally. Philly is the home of vocal harmony imho.

Two ways we can thank them are by spelling Oates correctly and by calling them Daryl Hall and John Oates (like all album covers do) instead of just "Hall & Oates." The duo said they think the latter makes them sound like a law firm or a two headed monster. Blessings to you and yours.

John Oates is playing in Napa next month!!---April 16 2023, tickets only $60, i'm in the third row! Saw H&O play in Vancouver over a decade ago, and everyone had a great time.

    80年代のNYの夜の雰囲気がそのまま伝わってくるし、NYといえば高層ビル、摩天楼だけど、そうじゃないNYの街並みが新鮮だった。

You know there's something you need
    Right here and now
To fill the space inside of yourself
Oh, with money, love or power
    When you want to have
    The number one, first-run anyone
You're crazy 'til you own them
    You ought to know
    Better than that, girl
    The more that you buy
    The less you get back
    You could say
    It's a case of
    Possession obsession
    Just a taste of
    Possession obsession
Brings of a case of possession
I hear you say gimme gimme
    Now gimme gimme gimme
    Gimme gimme gimme gimme
    The compulsion to count
    The percentage of time
    Spent between two lovers
Can turn an hour into a crime
Oh, all the good times suffer
Though you know it's only jealousy
But you can't help but be
    Haunted by your passion
    Now, don't you know
    It's a matter of fact
    The more that you take
    The less you give back
    I can say
    It's a case of
    Possession obsession
    Just a taste of
    Possession obsession
Brings of a case of possession
I hear you say gimme gimme
    Now gimme gimme gimme
    Gimme gimme possession
    Ooh, gimme gimme gimme
    Gimme gimme gimme
    Ooh, it's a case of
    Possession obsession
    Just a taste of
    Possession obsession
Brings of a case of possession
    I hear you say possession

    (Gimme some)

Btw, aere Daryl and john still an act together, what with Daryl doing "Live From Daryl's House" and John doing his own thing? I hope they're still The Dynamic Duo, but i'm happy with their legacy of great music and fine memories! :)

I was a fan of Hall and Oates 80's stuff (mainly Out Of Touch). It was a busy work week and I was listening to 80's tunes to unwind and thought about why Daryl Hall was always singing and re-discovered this song. While John is a good singer, I can see why Daryl took most of the spotlight. Daryl is your typical tall / blonde singer. John is a shorter "every day man" who really didn't advertise well with media. Not to take away from Daryl. He's an awesome singer and I think the songs that were popular were the big POP hits. This song is a soul / slow jam that probably resonated with older folks than young teens.

    LYRICS :❤️💥❤️💥
You know there's something you need
    Right here and now
To fill the space inside of yourself, ooh
    With money, love or power
When you want to have the number one, first-run anyone
You're crazy 'til you own them
You ought to know better than that, girl
The more that you buy, the less you get back
    You could say
It's a case of possession obsession
Just a taste of (possession obsession)
    Brings a case of (possession)
I hear you say (gimme, gimme)
    Now, gimme, gimme, gimme
    (Gimme, gimme) Yeah
The compulsion to count, the percentage of time
    Spent between two lovers
Can turn an hour into a crime, ooh
    All the good times suffer
Though you know it's only jealousy, but you can't help but be
    Haunted by your passion
Now, don't you know it's a matter of fact?
The more that you take, the less you give back
    I can say
It's a case of possession obsession
Just a taste of (possession obsession)
    Brings a case of (possession)
I hear you say (gimme, gimme)
    Now, gimme, gimme, gimme
    (Gimme, gimme) Yeah (obsession)
    Ooh, gimme, gimme
(Gimme, gimme) Gimme a hand, yeah, yeah
Ooh, it's a case of possession obsession
Just a taste of (possession obsession)
That brings a case of (possession)
But I hear you say (possession)
Now, don't you know it's a matter of fact?
The more that you take (gimme some)
The less you give back, yeah, yeah
    Obsession
The possession, oh, the possession, oh
    (Gimme some) Gimme some, ayy
Just a taste of possession obsession
Gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, yeah, yeah
    (Gimme some) Gimme some
    Obsession
    It's a case of...
